Discussion That dog didn't attack, didn't do anything. Cruelty like this is simply ignored everyday.. it's on the parents for promoting this and not teaching empathy to the kid. Parents simply smiled and walk away !

Discussion Mickey's death has sent the entire country into shock. Because when a known, loved community dog can be beaten to death inside a gated Mumbai society, no animal is safe. "This is entirely on SC. Their judgement has enabled haters to kill, harass, relocate dogs all under the guise of the judgement"..

A kind, peaceful dog immensely loved by the society people was brutally murdered in Raheja Exotica, Madh Islands. If this can happen to a community dog living in such a posh gated community, no dog in this country is safe... SC has opened the flood gates for psychos, dog haters to do what they want to our voiceless souls... Heart wrenching

Discussion A dog followed me for 5 days in my sikkim trek. I adopted and brought her home (flat). Did I mess up? Please give opinions.

Hi everyone,

TL;DR: A female stray dog (around 6–7 months old) followed me for 5 days during a mountain trek. She endured rain, cold, being chased, attacked by other dogs, and still wouldn’t leave our group of 3. I got attached, brought her home, and adopted her. Now I’m torn—did I save her, or did I take away her freedom?

On the very first day, two female dogs appeared out of nowhere in the forest. They were wagging their tails and seemed so happy to see us. They followed us the whole day, though I didn’t pay them much attention at first.

On the second day, both followed again, but one left midway. The younger one (probably 6–7 months old, the one in the picture) stuck with us the entire time, despite our guide repeatedly shooing her away with gestures and even small pebbles. That day it also started raining heavily in the afternoons, so she got drenched and shivered every night.

By the third day, I started feeling attached to her. At one point, two Tibetan guard dogs attacked her and even threw her off the mountain. I thought she was gone, but 20 minutes later, she somehow found us again and kept following. Later that same day, it rained heavily—she was completely soaked in about 15°C weather. When we set up camp, our guide chased her away again. Around midnight, I stepped out of my tent and found her sitting outside, shivering badly.

On the fourth and fifth days, things were calmer, except some male dogs tried to mate with her. I also noticed she was very friendly with everyone, though most people weren’t kind back—they would casually strike her away.

Now, here’s why I’m writing this: I ended up adopting her because I couldn’t stand watching her struggle. But I keep questioning myself. Did I do the right thing, or did I take away her freedom? In the mountains, she used to climb, and run freely. It felt like she knew the mountains well. On the way back, when we got into the car, she even tried to run back—which broke me inside and made me feel like I might be doing something wrong. I don't know a flat would suit her.

Some people suggested she may have had puppies, but honestly, I doubt it—no mother dog would abandon her litter for 5 days, crossing mountains with strangers. And even if she did, it’s nearly impossible (ig) she’d find her way back to them after such a long route.

I’ve already spent a lot of money to bring her home with me, and I truly just want her to be happy. If returning her to the mountains is the right thing to do, I’ll consider it.

So here’s my honest question: Did I mess up big by taking her in? Or did I actually help her?

Please don’t be rude. I really just want the best for this sweet angel.

Ps: Yes I used ChatGPT to refine. Also i have two male rescue dogs as well.

Discussion Dog parents / animal rescuers: How did you handle moving into a new flat when multiple street dogs depend on you?

I’m looking for advice from people who have actually been in a similar situation.

Little bit of context:
I’m currently planning to buy a flat in Bangalore.

Realistically, given Bangalore property prices and what I can afford, I’m looking at a 2 BHK (1200sqft) to move in with my aunt and mom both above 50.

Since 2018, I’ve been feeding and taking care of myĀ Ā 10 Indies who live around my house/street. They’re all roughly 5–10 years old now. Over the years, they’ve become completely dependent on me for food, shelter and basic care.

I currently live in a rented 1BHK, and although I obviously cannot keep 10 dogs inside the house, I’ve been able to provide them with shelter/a place to sleep within the building. They stay around my house and the surrounding area.

The problem is that I’m now looking at buying my own flat.

I cannot put 10 dogs into a 2 BHK apartment. Even if someone allowed it, I don’t think it would be fair to them. They’re used to having some space, moving around the area and having their own little territories. I don’t want them to suddenly go from that to being packed into an apartment and feeling suffocated.

But at the same time, I cannot simply move into the flat and leave them behind, These dogs have been part of my life since 2018.

And honestly, I know what could happen if I just disappeared from their lives. There are people in my street who already don’t tolerate them, and I have faced the usual harassment for feeding them. The harassment has gone till the cops and physical fight , so I know for a fact , these dogs will be in danger if I ever leave them.

So I’m trying to figure out a realistic long-term solution that works with the reality that I can only afford a 2 BHK.

I’m not necessarily asking people to find me a flat. I want to hear from people who have actually faced something similar:

If you moved into your own apartment/flat, what did you do with the street dogs you had been caring for?
Did you find a way to create a separate shelter or safe sleeping area nearby?
Did you rent or buy a small property specifically for the dogs?
Did you work with neighbours, RWAs, local feeders or animal welfare groups?
Putting them up for adoption is also unlikely because they aren’t in the cute phase anymore
Did you manage to keep the dogs in their existing territory while continuing to care for them? This is very unreal in my case, my own friends dont tolerate stray dogs

I’m trying to plan this before I buy the flat because I don’t want to make a decision that solves my housing problem but creates a disaster for the dogs.
How did you make it work?

Discussion Indian minds are still colonized(excluding exceptions), majorly all the foreign breeds(lab/golden/husky/chihuahua etc.) are inside indian houses.

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

These foreign breeds at home sleep at the couch, bed, with AC, get kisses, eat royal canin/pedigree etc. and our indies are out of Indian homes eating leftovers, getting 2 mins of pampering and then again left on the roads.

Dog lovers and animal lovers who eat non-veg are the real hypocrites in India.

I lost my 9-year-old dog today due to parvovirus.

The last 12 days have been the hardest I've ever lived through. Every day was spent taking him to the vet, getting fluids, glucose, antibiotics, and hoping that each new day would be the day he finally got better.

He stopped eating, became so weak that he couldn't walk anymore, but he still looked at me every time I sat beside him. He still drank water on his own, and I kept telling myself that meant he was still fighting.

Today he passed black, bloody stool, and a few hours later, he was gone.

I keep replaying everything in my head, wondering if I missed something or if there was anything else I could have done. I don't know if that feeling will ever go away.

He wasn't just a pet. He had been with me for years. He was there through good days and bad days, and now the house feels strangely quiet without him.

I'm literally crying, my tears aren't stopping , for me you are still with us

Discussion Will forever miss this one

Hey everybody. I didn't know which flair to use so I used a random one which might match with the post.

I wanted this to let this out for at least 7-8 hours but had to keep myself busy from breaking down.

So the story goes like: I am a customer in a food stall and I am one of the regular customers. I sit regular there even if it's for 30 mins. There have been days I used to sit for 2-3 hours straight, talking with people, engaging with the dogs and pups.

And after the breeding months, the mama dogs gave birth, we have new pups in the area. The own of the shop is a really good man. He loves and adores dogs. There have been instances where he took roadside dogs to his home and got them treated with his own money. All things apart, there was this particular pup which I absolutely adored and everyday I used to cuddle and scratch this guy on his head and squish his cheeks. I went today and he told me that, "The brown one is gone". I didn't think for a moment a asked which one? And he said, "The one you kept clicking pictures of. He died." And my response was, "No, you are lying!", and I stared at him for whole 5 minutes.

For a lonely person like me, I have never been loved by people, nor by near ones, nor by parents and I can't expect outsiders to have a little empathy for me. Never had friends, never had anyone to call mine or "my friend"/ "my companion". And being loved by this small thing, made my cry internally. He used to come and scratch on my pants for more scratches and food, he even wagged his tail.

And yet again, someone I loved is gone. And again, I am left alone, reminded where I belong to.

Please pray for this little soul. I don't have much to ask.

Sharing some pictures of my Chiku.

And people might question me. But I really wish I spent a little more time with him. Loved him a little more. And clicked a few more pictures to keep him inside my heart.
