This is kinda hard to explain, but I’ll try.
I’m an avid outdoorsman and listening to Fish and Game biologists describe making reservoirs or creating habitat, it makes me think about the rivers and mountains that took millions of years to form.
I get some sort of existential angst thinking about how, although I’ll see reservoirs get built, in my lifetime I’ll never see a new river or a new canyon.
The earth didn’t always look how it looks today, and in another billion years it’ll be even more different. Relatively speaking, in my human lifespan I’m only going to see a tiny snippet of the earth. From my perspective, our landscapes are permanent but really they aren’t at all.
Just me?
