Discussion Why is nobody talking about EndeavourOS?

Honestly, EndeavourOS is one of the smoothest and fastest Linux distros I’ve ever used.

I’m surprised I don’t see more people talking about it on YouTube.

Is there a reason it’s not as popular as other distros? Or am I just looking in the wrong places?

What do you guys think?

Discussion Age Verification in several OSS projects

Hello,

I have recently learned some guy named Dylan is already trying to implant age verification in several components of linux, but specifically archinstall and systemd. I am wondering if the EndeavourOS devs are aware of what is going on?

Here is the link to archinstall: https://github.com/archlinux/archinstall/pull/4290

and here is the link to systemd: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/40954

I don't know who Dylan is, but he has been making a lot of first time contributions into these sorts of open source projects pushing this age verification bullshit. I will probably be switching init systems if this continues and if that isn't possible might have to switch distros entirely. I know a few distros have taken a stance against this, but I really don't want to switch again because I love Endeavour.

Discussion Is EndeavourOS safe for daily use?

I’ve been using EndeavourOS recently and honestly, it feels really fast and snappy. I’m actually liking it so far.
I’m just wondering, is it safe and stable enough to use as a daily driver?

I mostly use my PC for browsing, watching YouTube, installing apps, and normal everyday stuff.

I know it’s Arch-based and rolling release, so I’m a bit worried about updates breaking things or causing problems.

For those who have been using EndeavourOS for a long time, how has your experience been?

Would you recommend it for daily use?

Discussion As someone who has gotten into Linux like a week ago why isnt Endeavour OS why isnt it recommended to beginners?

I have tried it out and its not even that hard to use, its really easy to use in my opinion, with Plasma KDE it looks way more windows like than Mint Cinnamon. It doesnt have any bloatware, it isnt hard to install like Arch, so i just dont get why it isnt recommended to beginners its like the perfect os. Like i saw people were saying its not for beginners before installing it, i was kind of scared but i really wanted to try it. After trying it people shouldnt scare beginners like me from using it, its really easy to use

Discussion How did you guys discover EndeavourOS?

I first came across EndeavourOS when I was looking for a lightweight and fast Linux distro for my old laptop.

Someone suggested that I give EndeavourOS a try, so I decided to install it and see how it goes.

I honestly hadn’t heard much about it before that.

And honestly, I was pretty surprised by how fast and responsive it felt on my old laptop.

I didn’t really expect a distro like this to run so smoothly on older hardware.

It actually made me wonder why I hadn’t discovered EndeavourOS sooner.

Now I’m curious — how did you guys discover EndeavourOS in the first place?

Was it recommended by someone, or did you find it while browsing through different Linux distros?

Why is EOS consider a distribution?
I know it sounds mean but let me explain. I used EOS only shortly but from what I can tell it offers: Arch + Calamares + a bit of special configuration. Which is very convenient and I am glad it exists. But I don’t understand why it is regarded its own OS. Lets look at Cachy: I don’t want to make comparisons but I see much more clearly why it is considet an OS on its own. Besides arch and calamares it also offers repositories containing a lot of drivers no longer present + a suit of its own software + its special kernel. But it feels like EOS has nothing that makes it this much different from Vanilla Arch.

What got me wondering about this in the first place is the treatment of Omarchy. The politics, money and the artificial hype around it is bad. No question asked. EOS is much better, also no question asked. But the fundamental arguments why Omarchy is not a real OS or independent distribution also apply to EOS right?

Discussion Endavour OS - how arch is ment to be

I tried tons of distros debian based, fedora, arch, with systemd, without systemd. Endavour OS beats all of them. An arch based distro without fish or a package wrapper and encourages you to use the terminal. I say it is the best one of all. I haven’t even had any issues with crashing because of it (a few due to framework 16 issues) but i give it 100/10 it runs the way you want it to without the garbage.

Do you guys think we might see budget laptop manufacturers shipping EndeavourOS pre-installed in the future?

Could EndeavourOS realistically compete with Windows if it came pre-installed on affordable hardware?

What do you think?

Discussion VPN recommendations for EndeavourOS KDE

Post image
55 Upvotes

Finally switched to EndeavourOS with KDE as on my Main PC, after a month of distro hopping/testing. Only have 1 unresolved issue to work out on EndeavourOS KDE. Find a good working VPN, preferably with a GUI but I can live without one just fine.

Was using proton vpn on my previous machine and still use it on other machines. But can't get the GUI version to work via yay and can't get the cli one to work either... So looking for options, have express vpn currently working on it, but don't care for all the ads in it and my subscription with them will end soon. Looking for VPN recommendations.

So \what is everyone using for VPN on EndeavourOS with KDE using?

Discussion Would you guys reccomend endeavor for a newbie?

Hey guys, I'm getting my first actual non work computer in a while and I wanna do gaming and just general use. Never used Linux before except years ago a little , I'm willing to learn the ropes and I'm good with following tutorials and online guides but I've heard some horror stories on the stability of the system, is it true it can break every new release? I don't wish to go through that and want minor hiccups at most I can troubleshoot and fix.

Is it okay for a newbie?

Thanks!

Discussion Can I use EndeavourOS without ever updating?

Hi everyone,

I’m thinking about using EndeavourOS, but I have a question about updates.

Is it possible to install EndeavourOS and then never update the system at all?

I’m wondering if I can keep using the same installed packages and kernel indefinitely without performing system updates.

I understand there may be security risks and that some applications could eventually stop working, but I’m mainly curious whether the system itself can continue to run normally if I simply never update it.

Has anyone actually used EndeavourOS this way?

What would happen after several months or years without updates?

Thanks!

Discussion 1 full week after switching from Windows

Post image
129 Upvotes

Idk if this fits as discussion but...

It’s been a full week since I switched from Windows 11 to this system. At first, I struggled a bit to fully get used to KDE Plasma, but I managed to figure it out over the course of the day. Then, to install apps, I had to really learn how Flatpak and the AUR worked, and I really like how they work. Now I use the system for my daily routine without much trouble, mainly used for online classes, gaming sessions, and video editing

The hardest part for me to get used to has been NVIDIA's poor "native" compatibility with Linux, but other than that (after going through dozens of wiki pages and videos)... Gaming experience has been incredible so far

That said, I'm not quite sure what to do with apps that work perfectly on Windows with .NET, like Livesplit for speedrunning- I haven't found any way to get it to work xD

Discussion Why does EndeavourOS + XFCE feel so smooth on my low-end Chromebook?

Post image
65 Upvotes

I’ve tried quite a few Linux distributions on my Chromebook, but I’m honestly surprised by how smooth EndeavourOS with XFCE feels.

The Chromebook only has 4 GB of RAM and a 16 GB eMMC, so I wasn’t expecting much. I’ve tried other distros and desktop environments, but somehow EndeavourOS + XFCE feels noticeably smoother and more responsive.

What makes it feel this smooth?

Is it because of XFCE being lightweight, Arch’s relatively minimal base, the kernel, default services, or something else in the way EndeavourOS is configured?

I’m curious what is actually happening under the hood that makes EndeavourOS + XFCE perform so well on such limited hardware.

Would love to hear from people who understand the technical side of this.

Discussion Please d9n't add the age stuff to endeavour.

i know its systemd, but this just the start of more things that will come, i thought our software would be free as in freedom, so adding the age stuff to the os just makes big politics understand that linux will conplain with any other major law that they make, what will be the next step, adding a backdoor to systemd? really?

Discussion Switched from Windows 11(🤢) to EndeavorOS like 2 days ago!(First distro)

Post image

Around 2 days ago I got tired of microtrash and decided to switch to linux! Ive installed mint before but never messed with the terminal, this screenshot was took when I was using kde plasma, which is a VERY smooth switch from the windows enviorment. I now use i3wm, I'm not really into "ricing" yet but I've configured some stuff. Nvidia drivers are a b#tch, which sucks, so I'll toy with that, I spent like a day to get everything working when I installed it. I'm not a Linux pro by any means, but I'm learning😁 Btw if you're asking why some stuff is blacked out it was 3am and I decided to do that for some reason. Everything runs so smooth and snappy, it's honestly scary how good Linux is. Drop your criticism of me down below, since I know that won't be avoidable:D

Discussion Why does EndeavourOS XFCE feel smoother than CachyOS XFCE on my old Chromebook?

Hey guys 👋 I have an old Lenovo N23 Chromebook with 4GB RAM and 16GB eMMC, and I’ve been trying different Arch-based distros on it.

I tried EndeavourOS XFCE and CachyOS XFCE, and somehow EndeavourOS feels much smoother on this old Chromebook.

CachyOS XFCE doesn’t feel as smooth for me.
This kinda surprised me because both are Arch-based. 🤔

So I’m wondering, what makes EndeavourOS feel so smooth on old/low-end hardware?

Is it because of the kernel, XFCE settings, services, packages, CPU optimizations, drivers, or something else?

I thought CachyOS was supposed to be performance-focused, so I’m curious why EndeavourOS feels better on this particular hardware.

Is there some configuration or “secret sauce” in EndeavourOS that I’m missing? 😂

Would love to hear from anyone who knows about this stuff.

Thanks! 🙏

Discussion EndeavourOS KDE or Arch Linux KDE, which is lighter?

I’m planning to use KDE Plasma and wondering which one uses less RAM and runs lighter overall.

For those who have tried both, is there any noticeable difference?

Or is it pretty much the same since both use KDE?

Would appreciate your opinions!
