Discussion I really love EndeavourOS. It’s honestly one of the fastest Linux distros I’ve ever used.
Do you guys think we might see budget laptop manufacturers shipping EndeavourOS pre-installed in the future?
Could EndeavourOS realistically compete with Windows if it came pre-installed on affordable hardware?
What do you think?

Endeavour is a great OS, but I think it requires too much technical knowledge that too many Window's users would be unwilling to put the time in to learn.

Yeah, it's not newbie friendly. If they already have some experience and skills, fine.

Is any Linux distro truly newbie friendly? I'm good with computers, but I found the difficulty difference between EOS and even Mint to be not all that great, as soon as you want to start getting more than emails done.

I recommend just learn to use Linux. This all newbir stuff distros are doing too much and starting to get bloated. Since i discovered EO I am Happy with it, right Balance with Tools and preinstallation. But leaves you still enough Vanilla Flair.

People already ignore and / or delay Patch Tuesday until Windows stops asking and starts forcing. I don't really envision any rolling release becoming a mainstream replacement for Windows.

Definitely not in the mainstream no. I love it because the advanced part of it doesn’t bother me at all.

Many people complain about too many updates so I don't think a casual user would be happy with a rolling distro.

Yeah, but don't you have automatic update options you can toggle in the settings menu in both kde and gnome?
which let's be honest as newbies that's what they will and should probably use.

I'm not sure about GNOME. Also being honest in KDE the default is to apply the updates manually with daily notifications. It will take the newbies a whle to figure that out and they will whine about the daily notifications. Linux Mint has several sliders that default to off so they need to find those too. r/linuxmint has a number of threads with 'why so many?' and 'how do I turn notifications off?' Windows refugees are used to the once a month disaster and get worried. With Arch a day where you run 'pacman -Syu' and it comes up empty is rare. Fedora and SUSE Tumbleweed are close seconds.

A laptop with a preinstalled rolling-release distro? Not a chance. And even if it did happen, it should protect the user from risky automatic updates. It means someone has to develop a user-friendly solution for recovering the system, using snapshots (even when system is not bootable), and installing drivers. Well, either develop a solution or properly use the existing ones (Timeshift, grub-btrfs, Snapper). Prepare an NVIDIA driver installer with a clear list of drivers that support the detected hardware. Most of the user-friendly solutions are already there, but they need a final touch and an automatic way of using them.
Just imagine a regular user (as I did). For example, seniors in my family. Even though they are aware of Linux and the internet, they can't get past a certain technical level.
