I'm a new weaver, and this scarf was my second project ever. I had some issues at the beginning, and now I have these loops at the edge from my weft turns. If they were more flush I wouldn't be too fussed, but they're big enough that I'm worried about them getting snagged.
The scarf is close to 7 feet long so I really don't want to hem the entire length - can I safely snip these edges to eliminate the loops? Or am I better off trying to stitch them down?

So... I've tried some patterns with two heddles, it worked fine but overall was too much hassle, so I've cut the experiment (fig2) off, rethreaded for one heddle and went for more experiments... and found out that log cabin is one very easy style! And I'm so happy with it.
This is just an encouragement for people like me who are bad bad bad with manuals and need to reinvent the wheel themselves. Which is basically what I did. Yeah, whatever. I'll try more manuals, won't read or watch anyway, get frustrated, try something else, invent stuff I would learn if I watched the video, be happy with the result. I think I like it...
(just for the record, my log cabin is 2-2 warp and 2-2 weft with 'reversed repeating' after 4 pairs of rows. I went the complicated way but next time I do it, I'll just have two colours together both warping and on shuttle. working on Ashford 24" rigid heddle with cotton)

Hi folks!
Question.
Anyone mount their work to stretched canvasses? I have a fairly stretchy piece that is like to display in a tray frame... Something like this lovely piece is done by Rilla Marshall. I presume the best bet would be to buy a pre stretched canvas or make a canvas frame and mount it.
I'm having an awful time getting it stretched and attached to the frame without distorting it.
Any hints/suggestions/secrets?

ETA: warp is 12/6 cotton seine twine on a Mirrix tapestry loom. Weft is a variety of fibers including alpaca, wool, silk sari, and velvet ribbon

I have a rigid heddle loom (Willowdale) and I've mastered (?) houndstooth and log cabin. Can anyone suggest a new pattern to try? FYI the works above are all using Yonkey Monkey cotton/bamboo yarn with 6.5 dent heddle. These are all dinner napkins which I'm making for Christmas and House Warming gifts.

Hello, I'm not sure this is the right place, but I'll try to explain, sorry if it's not.
I've been struggling to understand the weaving technique/pattern used for my shirt, which has an extremely pleasant feel that I haven't been able to find anywhere and, after analyzing it to identify it, I realized I can't seem to understand how it was made in the first place.
The exterior pattern seems to be alternating 3-1 and 1-1, but it doesn't end up diagonal, so it's not twill. The interior seems to be 2-1-1-2 which, however, doesn't seem to be compatible with the exterior. When touching the fabric it doesn't seem to be two different pieces of cloth, so I don't think it's double. I thought perhaps it was two sets of weft and one warp (if that even is possible) and tried drafting that, but those patterns don't seem compatible even if they shared the warp. Therefore I'm stuck. Is there something I'm missing? Is this even worth asking?
I'll post pictures of the exterior and interior and of my (admittedly poor) attempt to draft the patterns and the failed interaction between them. Again, I'm sorry if this is not the right place.

for those that weave on frame looms, do you have a setup that helps you maintain good posture? i’m struggling with a lot of pain if i weave for too long. currently i sit on a chair with my loom on my lap propped against my kitchen table. 🍤

Hi all! I’m a beginner spinner and am getting interested in working plant fibers as well. I’d love to experiment with different weaving styles and fiber types so I’m having trouble deciding what epi I should aim for in purchasing my first portable frame loom.
I’m very inspired by the artist Jessie Mordine who uses a 2 epi frame loom which allows for some really interesting and unique pieces but I’d also like to be able to lean into something like the lovely artwork in attached photo if I can, simple shapes. Since I’m getting into the world of spinning and playing with fibers, I’d like to have the flexibility to work with different sizes. I think I want to lean on the lower epi side but am just not knowledgeable enough to decide what would work best. Any advice?

Loom: Louet 4 shaft table loom
Warp and weft: 8/2 cotton
20 EPI
Striped twill !
I took a two day class a few weeks ago, bought a loom on marketplace and this is my first project, I can't believe I'm doing it 🤩

I found these really cool looking swatch cards and thought they would be great for sampling before warping my loom but thinking about it I’m not sure if they’ll be good for testing multi-shaft weaves
Thoughts? Do you think it’ll be a possibility to use these for multi-shaft weave structures or just tapestry/simple weave structures?
I also saw a Dundas portable loom for sale near me but don’t really have the space for a second loom so would prefer small swatch cards if it’s actually possible
Edit: below are some examples that they posted that make me think that it’s a possibility but I still want input from people, especially those who’ve used swatch cards like these or similar for their own sampling

Partway through working on this set of placemats I realized I had not done any hemstitching, so I decided to embrace the lack of hemstitch on all of them and figure things out later. Now that they're off the loom, washed, and I'm finishing things, what would be the best way to finish the ends?
My first thought was to just cut off all the fringe and do a folded hem to secure with sewing, but do really like the look of the fringe. Would adding a line of sewing on the edge where I did a few picks of tabby, with a short stitch length, be enough to secure it? Or should I give up on the fringe and fold it under for security?

Hi,
Tonight I came into possession of a used Schacht 45” standard loom. I’m very excited about it, but it is a 10 treadle model. I see that Schacht sells individual treadles… has anyone tried to update a 10 treadle loom to a 12 treadle? Is this crazy?
Thanks!

I've been experimenting with twill on my inkle loom since I picked up a mini rigid heddle a while back. I could only make a 2-1 twill with that setup, but I toyed with a few variables.
All together there's:
1. A twill band with wool warp and weft (bottom),
2. A twill band with #10 crochet cotton weft (front and back),
3. A baltic-pickup-style band with purple and green wool and black #10 crochet cotton,
4. A warp-faced band with wool warp and crochet cotton thread
5. A twill band with all crochet cotton (top), and
6. In the third picture, a tan and purple warp-faced band with wool warp and weft.
Some takeaways:
I thought the floating warps in the wool twills would make them feel softer than the warp-faced bands, but the twills ended up feeling rougher than warp-faced weaves even on the sides with the floats. The twills were more more drapey, and they felt thinner which makes sense since they're all stretched out.
It is hilariously obvious every time I made a mistake on the twill pattern. When I was weaving the twill bands I saw the side where the weft had floats so it looked really consistent, but when I took it off the loom I realized it needed much more dedicated attention.
Every one of these bands has wildly uneven edges, I gotta work on that.
I really like how the twill pattern looks on the all-wool band (bottom), it's like subtle shifting sand with big ugly tire treads every now and then.
Hope this was neat, please hit me with your tips for straighter edges and how to count to 3 without losing your place.
It is pretty easy to find unbleached, bleached, or black, but no color options. Any ideas to source relatively fine threads?
I just got a new to me drawloom and want to do a little experimenting with 5 or 6 shaft satin damask

I have been doing more pictorial weaving with a cartoon behind my warp, and the ergonomics on my floor loom have been horrible! I can only do so much without having to take a break to stretch my back and neck. I've been struggling to think of how I could make these weavings in a more ergonomic way. A table loom would help by holding the shed without keeping my foot on a treadle, but it would also help if the whole weaving could be at a better, more upright angle. I see rigid heddle loom stands that prop the loom up at an angle, but table looms always seem to be pictured flat and the beaters look like they would swing forward if they were used at an angle.
Does anyone have ideas on if an ergonomic setup exists for multi-shaft, pictorial weaving?

Does anyone know any vendors that focus on weaving tools, etc...? I have limited walking time this year and am trying to have an actual plan for once.
