Flashlight News Anduril release 2026-09-12 - new models, new features, and architectural improvements

New release.

Update: If the light doesn't work after flashing, try doing a factory reset. Some flashing programs apparently don't erase the eeprom during flashing, so a manual factory reset may be required. The most reliable method for this is "loosen tailcap, hold button, tighten tailcap, keep holding until the animation finishes (about 4-5 seconds)". However, telling the flashing tool to do an explicit eeprom erase should work too. Or if a tailcap reset is physically not possible, and an eeprom erase isn't an option either, "Off -> 13H" may still work.

Original post below:

Lots of changes this time... several new models, new features, and more underlying architectural stuff rewritten.

New lights:

  • Added &hank-lume-x1-c (0283). Mostly done, but still missing support for standby animations ("smooth rainbow" and "breathing"). Work in progress. Adds ability to change aux RGB brightness (details below).

  • Added &fireflies-lume-x1-attiny1616 (0461).

  • Added &fireflies-lume-x1-avr32dd20 (0462).

  • Added &fireflies-lume-x1-avr32dd20-32w (0463).

  • Added &fireflies-lume1-6af (0451). Mostly works, but turbo is weird on this model and I can't fix it because it's a hardware problem. (ramp is regulated from level 1 to 149, and turbo is 150 only)

General:

  • Added Powerbank Host mode, for a couple lights which have a pin to control whether the flashlight receives power (charge the flashlight) or sends power (charge the other device). Use Batt Check -> 2H to enable host mode. Powerbank Host mode ends when you leave Batt Check mode. It is recommended that the user also enable Batt Color mode while charging another device.

  • Beacon mode uses Smooth Steps, if enabled. This "Smooth Beacon" is used instead of the dedicated "Beacon Tower Mode" some FF lights had.

  • Fixed bugs when user set aux ramp levels to weird values.

Dimmable RGB w/ AW2016 chip: (lume-x1-c)

  • The new AW2016 chip on Hank's Lume-X1-C is the reason why I've been focusing so much on things related to aux RGB lately. All these changes were necessary to support this chip and the features it provides.

  • Added ability to change aux RGB brightness. There are 4 settings:

    • Standby low brightness
    • Standby high brightness
    • POVD brightness
    • "On" or "Active" brightness: For ramp, strobes, etc.
  • To change standby low or high brightness: Go to "Off" mode, use 7C to reach the standby "low" or "high" mode, then use 8H to select a brightness. There are 14 steps, with the lowest 5 using PWM.

  • To change POVD brightness: Go to Batt Color mode (Batt Check -> 1H), then use 8H to select a brightness. There are 9 steps.

  • To change "On" / "Active" brightness: Go to a mode which uses this, like the main Ramp mode (with an aux channel enabled), or a strobe mode (with an aux channel enabled). Then use 8H to select brightness. There are 9 steps.

Battery / voltage upgrades:

  • Fixed flicker in Smooth POVD, by increasing voltage precision and adding a lowpass filter to the animation color. Instead of ~60 color steps, it now has well over 1000.

  • Increased battery voltage precision from 8 bits to 16 bits on most models (everything except attiny85). Before, it was 0.00V to 5.10V in 0.02V steps (1/50th of a Volt). Now it's 0.000V to 10.24V in 0.00015625V steps (1/6400th of a Volt). Had to recalibrate every affected model.

  • Batt Check now displays 0.01V precision instead of 0.02V.

  • Breaking change: Increased precision of user-configurable voltage calibration. Was 0.05V steps before, is 0.01V steps now. Batt Check -> 7H -> Option 1 uses "20" as its neutral value now, for +0.00V, and each step above or below that adds or subtracts 0.01V.

  • Made user voltage calibration handle dual fuel better, on avr32dd lights. Now adjusts the slope instead of the offset, so adding +0.10V at 3.9V only adds about +0.03V at 1.2V.

  • Added "Batt Color" mode. Use Batt Check -> 1H to toggle between colors or digits. This is like Smooth POVD, but runs until you stop it. It is intended to be used while charging, so you can stop charging when it turns purple, instead of having to count digits.

  • Changed a lot of internal stuff to make all this work.

Build / dev tools:

  • Updated the Atmel DFP version. Optional. Note, however, that if the wrong DFP is used, or if the build can't find it, it may break the Factory Reset function on some lights.

  • Added guidelines for how model numbers are intended to work, and how to assign them. Please stop choosing model numbers with a 0 in the middle.

  • Build script now shows the full version string of each model.

  • Build script handles improperly-formatted hex digits now, and translates them to the required internal format, so loneoceans git commit IDs should have digits now instead of just buzzing.

  • DAC ramp calculator handles 8-bit and 10-bit DACs now, and allows limiting the maximum power.

Hardware-specific changes:

  • Every new model has a new ramp, so expect some changes in the brightness of specific ramp steps. The Fireflies models in particular had all sorts of weird ramps, and I've tried to make them more consistent between models, and more similar to the ramps from other brands.

  • Fixed bug where 2C return-from-turbo didn't work while using a weak battery, on lights with weak battery detection.

Flashlight News Anduril release 2026-08-11 - new models, shiny new RGB stuff, better aux control, new API for aux LEDs, and some bugfixes and tweaks

New release.

Has been a while. Rewrote a lot of code. New models, shiny new RGB stuff, better aux control, new API for aux LEDs, and some bugfixes and tweaks.

Update 2026-08-12

New release today with a single bugfix. On lights with the new "Smooth POVD" feature, auto-lock didn't work quite right. It would lock, but wouldn't activate the Lockout mode's aux LED settings until the user pressed a button. Only affected lights with the new feature, which means Hank's D3AA, KR1AA, and Lume X1 drivers... plus some rare custom drivers from thefreeman.

Fixed: https://github.com/ToyKeeper/anduril/releases/tag/r2026-08-12

General:

  • Breaking change: Rewrote the entire aux LED API, then fixed and tested nearly every supported model. Big patch. Will probably break people's custom configs. Compare your configs to the new anduril.h and hwdef.* files for examples of how to update things. A visual diff tool would be helpful. Maybe also check commit b7632ccd3bd47a66dcf73fbdca4f76f28d0fcba4 for extra details.
  • Added dimmable RGB aux on models which are capable of doing it.
    • Added "smooth POVD" to display voltage by color with much higher resolution. Roughly 60 steps instead of 6. This only works while the main LEDs are on (RGB button) and during POVD. In standby mode, it still uses 6-level passive aux colors to save power.
    • Added a HSV (hue saturation value) channel mode, but it's mostly for testing purposes, to make sure RGB works correctly.
    • Models: &hank-lume-x1, &hank-emisar-d3aa, &hank-kr1aa, and thefreeman drivers.
  • Added config option for "aux while on". Batt Check -> 7H -> Option 5:
    • 0: aux LEDs disabled while main LEDs are on
    • 1: single color aux LEDs only
    • 2: RGB aux only
    • 3: both
  • Added 2 more standby blinky animations: 2 blinks on low, or 1 blink on low. This is for lights like D3AA where "steady low" mode uses too much power, so you can reduce standby power by using a low blink instead. Increases standby time about 4X to 10X on some lights.
  • Added channel mode flags like "is aux", so real-time RGB button display won't override aux channels any more.
  • Added docs for POVD (Post-Off Voltage Display).
  • Updated flashing scripts and docs since avrdude supports newer MCUs now.

New lights:

  • &hank-kr1aa (0162): Added build target for Noctigon KR1AA, since it needs a different ramp than D3AA, and it also needs to be more lenient about weak battery detection.
  • &hank-dm1.12 (0264): Added build target for Noctigon DM1.12. It's like the Noctigon K9.3 build (0261), but tuned better for the DM1.12 host.
  • &wurkkos-ts26 (0721): Added build target for Wurkkos TS26 Anduril.

Hardware-specific changes:

  • Added dimmable RGB and "Smooth POVD" to models which can do it.
  • &hank-emisar-d3aa (0161), &hank-kr1aa (0162): Fixed bug 81: Stepped ramp could get stuck when using a weak battery.
  • &hank-lume-x1 (0281): Enabled RGB while main LEDs are on, by default. User may need to turn this off if they don't have a RGB button.
  • &blf-lt1-t1616 (0622): Fixed reversed warm and cool channels. Fixed bumpiness in ramp. Fixed "v" shaped ramp at low levels. Set default to enable only 1 channel mode.
  • Several: Changed flags on some attiny85 builds to make the ROM fit.
  • Several: Fixed incorrect e-switch pin assignments in hwdef. Didn't break anything, but it made derivative drivers fail sometimes if those pins were used for other things. (reported by INeedMoreLumens)

The aux and RGB changes help lay the groundwork for supporting some newer hardware features, like loneoceans' new dimmable RGB aux chip which uses a separate controller just for aux LEDs. Those devices are not supported yet, but should be soon.

New Product [NED/Performance & Light Quality Test] F45R vs F150R (4000K) – Convoy L21A, with runtime comparison against SFT-42R (5000K) & SBT90.2 (5700K) 🔦

I've been looking forward to these two emitters for a while now, they're both brand new and sounded really interesting on paper, so I wanted to get them tested and see how they actually perform.

🛠️ Test Equipment Used

  • Lumens & Lux: Tklamp TK2303D Flashlight Tester (Lux measured at 5m)
  • CCT / Tint / DUV / Ra: Hopoocolor HPCS330P
  • Current (Amps): UNI-T UT210D

📸 Camera Settings (Oppo Find X9 Ultra Pro Mode)

  • ISO: 800
  • Focal Length: 23mm
  • Exposure Compensation: —
  • Aperture: F1.5
  • Shutter Speed: 1/10
  • White Balance: 5000K

🔧 Build 1 — F45R 4000K

  • Host & Reflector: Convoy L21A, smooth reflector
  • Driver: 3V 10A
  • Emitter: F45R, 4000K

Output & Light Quality Measurements

Mode Current (A) Output (lm) CCT DUV CRI (Ra) Intensity (cd) ANSI Throw (0.25 lx) Usable Throw (1 lx) Ratio (cd/lm)
1% 0.1 43 3881K +0.0070 68 7,400 172.1m 86.0m 172.09
10% 0.7 402 3955K +0.0039 68 66,475 515.7m 257.8m 165.36
35% 2.7 1,200 4020K +0.0009 68 196,400 886.3m 443.2m 163.67
100% 9.7 2,600 4190K -0.0014 67 406,000 1274.4m 637.2m 156.15

Runtime Notes:

  • Sustained Output: Turbo opens around 2,520lm and steps down gradually and repeatedly over the first ~13 minutes, through roughly 2,440 → 2,100 → 1,850 → 1,650 → 1,480 → 1,330 → 1,250 → 1,180lm, before finally settling on a stable ~1,180lm plateau that holds for the remainder of the 30-minute run.
  • Thermal Performance: Plateaus at 53.5°C during sustained runtime.

🔧 Build 2 — F150R 4000K

  • Host & Reflector: Convoy L21A, smooth reflector
  • Driver: 3V 20A
  • Emitter: F150R, 4000K

Output & Light Quality Measurements

Mode Current (A) Output (lm) CCT DUV CRI (Ra) Intensity (cd) ANSI Throw (0.25 lx) Usable Throw (1 lx) Ratio (cd/lm)
1% 0.2 82 4072K +0.0006 70 6,275 158.4m 79.2m 76.52
10% 3.2 1,440 4198K -0.0038 71 104,925 647.8m 323.9m 72.86

100% 19.3 5,200 4467K -0.0080 71 359,500 1199.2m 599.6m 69.13

Note: Logging appears to have started a few seconds late on this run, the graph's initial reading of ~4,820lm is lower than the measured 100% output of 5,200lm, so the very first moments of turbo (the true peak and the start of its decay) aren't captured here.

Runtime Notes:

  • Sustained Output: Turbo opens (as logged) at ~4,820lm, likely already past its true peak of 5,200lm due to the late start, and drops sharply within the first minute to ~1,700lm, holding fairly steady there until around the 7-minute mark, where it steps down again to a ~1,370lm plateau that holds, with minor thermal ripple visible, for the rest of the 30-minute run.
  • Thermal Performance: Not separately logged, the light stays in a similar low-50s °C range as the F45R build based on observed behavior.

📊 Combined Runtime Comparison

Comparison Notes:

Comparing both builds against an SFT-42R (5000K, 10A) and SBT90.2 (5700K, 20A) in the same L21A SMO host:

  • Turbo Behavior: F150R opens the highest by far (~4,820lm), followed by SBT90.2 (~4,050lm) and SFT-42R (~2,400lm), with F45R starting close to SFT-42R (~2,520lm) despite the output difference — largely a reflection of the 10A vs 20A driver split rather than the emitters themselves.
  • Convergence: All four lights converge into a fairly narrow output band by around the 4-5 minute mark, settling between roughly 1,100-1,400lm.
  • Final Sustained Levels: F150R settles the highest of the group (~1,370-1,400lm), followed by SBT90.2 and F45R sitting close together (~1,150-1,200lm), with SFT-42R settling the lowest (~1,100-1,150lm).

💭 Final Impressions & Comparison

Beam Profile: The F45R's beam is nearly identical to the SFT-42R's, which I kind of expected since the two emitters are pretty similar. It's completely clean, no rings around the hotspot at all. The F150R is close, but not quite as clean, there's a faint ring around the hotspot, though you'd only ever notice it on a white wall, not in actual use. Its hotspot is also about 3x bigger than the F45R's.

Tint & Color Quality: Tint is really good on both. The F45R stays neutral no matter the output level, and the F150R has a nice rosy tint without it being too much. No yellow on either one, which is a big part of why they both look so clean.

Which Wins Where: If you want the more neutral, consistent tint and slightly longer throw, go F45R. If you want WAY more power and a lovely, rosy tint, the F150R is the one.

Overall Verdict: I'm genuinely impressed with both of these. Good tint, and the CCT stays pretty consistent as output goes up, which isn't always the case with other throwy emitters I've tested. My favorite is the F150R though, it's a bit more rosy, looks cleaner overall, and has an insane amount of power.

Hey reddit folks,

The new WURKKOS HD02 Pro is coming in early August, and this time, two of key upgrades came directly from WURKKOS fans feedback.

Since the original HD02 launched, we’ve received a lot of suggestions from users across the community. Among all the discussions, two requests came up more than any others, so we took both of them seriously and made them happen.

1. More flexible wing lights

The original wing lights could only tilt up and down. On WURKKOS HD02 Pro, the Dual-Axis Rotatable Wing Lights can now 135° Vertical Tilt & 180° Horizontal Rotation.

This gives you much more control over the lighting angle and makes the floodlight easier to position for different tasks.

2. A more complete emitters system

Many of you also asked for an additional red light, so the HD02 Pro now includes:

Spotlight + Green Beam + Red Light + UV + Wing Lights

Compared with the original:

Spotlight + Green Beam + UV + Wing Lights

The video gives you an early look at the upgraded wings light movement and how it performs in actual use.

We’ll keep sharing more specifications, tests, and product details here as we get closer to launch.

So, did these two upgrades meet your expectations for the HD02 Pro? Which one matters more to you, and what would you still like to know before launch?

We’d love to hear your honest thoughts.

📈 Runtime & Thermal Regulation Analysis

Test Parameters: 30-minute logging | Ambient Temp: 30°C | Battery: Molicel P30B (4.2V)

  • Turbo & Step-down: Output starts at 1,900 lumens. It undergoes a rapid step-down within the first minute to approximately 1,100 lumens, followed by a gradual decline until the 10-minute mark.
  • Sustained Output: By 10 minutes, output stabilizes completely, maintaining a perfectly flat 500 lumens for the remainder of the test.
  • Thermal Performance: Temperature peaks near 64°C during the initial step-down phase before stabilizing around 58°C to 60°C under sustained load.

💭 Final Impressions & Notes

  • Driver Performance: The Lume X1 Boost driver handles the 6V SFT-70 efficiently, providing stable regulation and flat sustained output after the initial thermal step-down.
  • Beam Profile: The TIR optic creates an excellent floody beam profile. The large floodspot and smooth spill make it highly effective for everyday carry and close-range visibility.

⚠️ Note on Light Quality: I won't be getting into tint here, as I already covered that in detail in my previous post on the SFT-70 4000K 95CRI.

  • Ergonomics & Build: The recessed button is a solid design and a real improvement over previous Fireflies models when it comes to guarding against accidental activation. That said, I swapped the stock button for an older-style one with a raised retaining ring, I just prefer it. It makes the switch easier to find by feel without a pocket clip, and I like the clean, blacked-out look it gives the light. I'm really into the size and weight of the Z1, it hits a great balance in the hand, not too light, not too bulky. The knurling looks and feels great too, nicely thought out and grippy without being aggressive. Overall it's a well-designed light that backs up its looks with solid performance.

Flashlight News HD02 PRO Is Now Live — Here’s WURKKOS Official Lab Data

Hey Reddit folks,

The HD02 PRO product page is now live, and it will officially go on sale in August 5th.

PS: THE TS28 SFT70 gen2 High CRI version will coming soon you should know ; )!

Before the launch, we wanted to share something more useful than another list of specifications: the official lab data collected from our HD02 PRO samples.

Here’s what we tested:

1. Mainlight output and runtime

We recorded three output curves for the mainlight in turbo mode:

Turbo output in 2 minutes
Turbo output in 20 minutes
The full 2-hour runtime

These curves show the initial output, step-down behavior, sustained brightness, and longer-term regulation.

2. Wings light CRI measurements

We tested #12 sets wings light CRI under cold white and warm white tint settings.

Cool-white wings light at high output: CRI >95
Warm-white wings light at low output: 90<CRI<95

3. Temperature-rise testing

We also tracked how the temperature changed across three parts of the light:

Temp changed in 50 min

4. Charging-time testing

We tested the HD02 PRO with several different chargers adapter, and recorded the charging time and charging behavior for each setup.

5. Standby-drain testing
Standby drain was measured across multiple HD02 PRO units rather than relying on a single sample. We’ve included the results so you can see the consistency between units.

We know many of you care more about real performance than numbers printed on a product page, so we’ll continue sharing more test results and detailed specifications here before the official sale begins.

Flashlight News Finally Fixing Fireflies Firmware

FFFF- this is long overdue. I've been working on some of the Fireflies Lume1 and Lume-X1 builds which are missing from the main repository. Here's the overall roadmap:

  • Done, and released: Added dimmable aux RGB on lights which can do PWM on the RGB pins. Includes "Smooth POVD" and a hue-brightness channel mode. Had to rewrite the entire aux LED system for this, and re-test every build target.
  • Done: Flickerless POVD and precise voltage stuff is working well. This fixes the flickering during Smooth POVD, and increases battery voltage resolution from 1/50th of a Volt to 1/6400th of a Volt. Had to recalibrate and test almost every build target again.
  • Done: Add / fix the Fireflies Lume1 and Lume-X1 lights. These are very similar to Hank's Lume-X1 drivers, but have some differences, and were missing from the main repository.
  • Add Hank's Lume-X1-C. In progress; will give details in another post.
  • Add Fireflies Lume10.
  • Add Hank's Lume-N1.

Then I think I'll be caught up on new drivers.

The Fireflies lights I added are the fireflies-lume-x1-avr32dd20 (0462), fireflies-lume-x1-avr32dd20-32w (0463), fireflies-lume-x1-attiny1616 (0461), and fireflies-lume1-6af (0451). Also added some extra related stuff. In more detail:

  • Improved support for chargers / powerbanks:
    • Can now select Powerbank Host mode vs Powerbank Guest mode, on lights which have hardware for that. It uses guest mode by default, so if you plug in a USB-C device using a C-to-C cable, it'll charge the battery in the flashlight. If you want the flashlight to charge a different device, go to Batt Check mode and do a `2H` to switch to Powerbank Host mode. Another `2H` switches back to guest mode, or you can just exit Batt Check to go back to guest mode.
    • I did NOT add the "powerbank in momentary mode" thing loneoceans was using. It was annoying, particularly on Fireflies lights where you had to loosen the body tube several full turns to exit Momentary. Much easier to do a Batt Check 2H... and this also allows monitoring the battery fullness while delivering power to another device.
    • While charging the torch, or using the torch to charge another device, it is recommended to use Batt Color mode. This shows battery fullness by color, instead of blinking. To access it, use `Batt Check -> 1H`.
    • When charging or reverse charging, voltage can spike or dip suddenly, so I added a strong lowpass filter during Batt Check mode to keep it from reacting to momentary power blips.
    • The recommended charging process is "Off -> 3C for Batt Check, 1H for Batt Color, plug in... then unplug when it turns purple". Or to charge another device, it's similar... "Off -> 3C for Batt Check, 1H for Batt Color, 2H to enable Powerbank Host, plug in... then unplug when it turns red".
  • Instead of adding loneoceans' Beacon Tower mode, I added Smooth Beacon. If you have smooth steps enabled, the beacon mode behaves like an incandescent light with visible rise and fall times, instead of using sharp "digital" edges.
  • Ramp generator:
    • This now supports power-limited DAC ramps, for regulated lights which have the maximum power limited by firmware. This is needed to prevent some models from turning the LEDs into smoke.
    • It also now now supports both 10-bit (avr32dd) and 8-bit (attiny1616) DACs. Producing a good ramp is still a very fiddly process though.
  • fireflies-lume-x1-avr32dd20 (0462) and 32w (0463): Brand new build targets, based on the hank-lume-x1 build plus loosely based on loneoceans' branch. Brand new ramps for both, which should be smoother and feel more similar to other Anduril lights. Making the ramp table look good took a while, but otherwise these were the easiest models to add, since they're very similar to Hank's Lume-X1.
  • fireflies-lume-x1-attiny1616 (0461): This one was a little odd. It's based on thefreeman's attiny1616 regulated drivers, and needed some things I haven't done on attiny1616 before. The ramp table took many tries to get right, and I had to learn how to use AVR's "Timer/Counter Type B" for the first time, to make the aux RGB work. It turns out that Atmel's attiny1616 reference manual is wrong about some of this stuff, so I got to figure out how to make it work the hard way... by trial and error.
  • fireflies-lume1-6af (0451): I tried. I can't fix the weird turbo behavior on this thing. The hardware doesn't allow it. The direct-drive FET is either completely on or completely off, and it doesn't accept PWM to make in-between levels. So it still does the weird thing where it's regulated from level 1 to 149, then suddenly jumps up to turbo at 150 for only one level. So I added a thing to let individual lights hook into part of the thermal regulation code and override it if they want. It reduces the symptoms of the turbo weirdness, but it's still funky.
  • Fixed a few misc small bugs.

A question about the powerbank mode... Should it reset to guest mode when leaving Batt Check, or should it stay in the current host/guest mode?

  • If it exits Powerbank Host mode, you can't forget and accidentally leave it on. It also starts in a consistent state each time, so you never have to guess whether it's in host mode or guest mode. And if the battery gets low, it'll automatically leave host mode when LVP turns the light off. But it will only charge other devices while in Batt Check mode (or Batt Color mode).
  • If it stays in host/guest mode, you can charge another device while the flashlight is off. But you're much more likely to accidentally get the wrong mode, and charge in the opposite direction of what you intended. Also much more likely to over-drain the flashlight battery. Unsure if host mode uses extra power in standby, so that's also a potential risk.

Right now, it exits Powerbank Host mode when leaving Batt Check.

Either way, I think the current method is better than what it was before (powerbank host in Momentary mode only), but I'm not sure which of the two styles is best.

(this is cross-posted from my patreon page... I'm trying to figure out how best to let people know what I'm working on between releases, so let me know if you have thoughts about that)
