Moderator Post Moderator note: report abuse and political topics
On Reddit, report abuse is when users report posts or comments as breaking Reddit rules or sub rules when they do not.
For example, someone stating their political opinion about a political party is not a death threat. Stating an opinion in a way that shares a personal view without inventing facts or spreading falsehoods is not misinformation.
Reporting political comments as rules breaking means that moderators have to review comments and approve them.
Moderators can report your accounts for report abuse. These reports can decrease your Contributor Quality Score on Reddit, which can lead to shadow bans, content being removed from this and other subs automatically, or even being prevented from commenting in some subs due to low CQS scores.
Please do not report comments and posts because you don't agree with them politically.

Ask British Columbia Is BCAA Membership Still Worth it in 2026?
I have re-upped my membership again for the year. I noticed that the Shell Gas contract expires in 2027. I’ve also noticed Shell is all about scene points now. So, I’m under the assumption it will not be renewed. The Canucks ticket deal contract also fell a part for this season.
So… no Gas benefits (potentially) or Hockey coupons.
Thinking of getting a free Canadian Tire Mastercard just for the towing service right now.

Photo/Video Salmon Behaviour
At the Coquitlam River (PoCo Trail) yesterday where salmon were seen going upstream most likely to spawn. While others were just passing them, these two had been going at each other - the stronger one unrelentingly preventing the other from advancing. Pinkish-red bruising had already appeared on their bodies when we left. Strange, as both seemed not to make their journey due to tiredness and injury.

Ask British Columbia Is there a good sub or website for backcountry camping in BC?
I'm looking for a good reddit sub or separate website or forum that is specific to backcountry camping in BC. Mainly just discussion, photo sharing, meetups, community stuff, etc. If you know of something that fits the bill, please let me know. Thanks!

Discussion Trips to food banks increased 44% since 2019
I want the government to start stepping in to reduce the monopolies and make food affordable. Start holding our grocery stores accountable, namely Save on, Safeway(sobey). We have all noticed a huge spike in groceries bills since 2019. Its out of control and we cannot allow billionaires like Jim Pattison and Sobey family empire to continue unchecked.
Food bank BC visits has risen by 79% monthly visits since 2019 - food bank bc
Sobey Empire Company has grown their gross profit by ~2.5 billion since 2019.
Jim Pattinson wealth has grown by (save on is privately owned) has doubled since 2019 from ~8b to 16~
Since 2019 food prices have risen by 31% - food bank bc
Now look, this is not the whole story but billionaires should not be in charge of our food. They have proven themselves to be greedy and gluttonous. These simple data points show there are big issues here.

Community Only Details for provincial riding level debates?
I know the leaders debate is on the 14th, but is there a debate for the candidates for each riding?
I know the candidates likely don't have much power compared to the leader, but I want to see how these individuals defend their party platforms.
The main reason I voted for my candidate last time was that he took reporter interviews and the other candidates didn't.
My riding is Vancouver-Yaletown if anyone has specific details for the riding.

Discussion Thinking about becoming a nurse, insights?
Hi everyone! I’m 24 and considering going into nursing in BC, but I’d love to hear from nurses about their honest experiences before committing to school.
My biggest concern is whether nursing offers a good financial future. Can you make a comfortable living as an RN, and does your earning potential increase significantly with experience? What kind of pay can you realistically expect as a new grad versus later in your career?
I’m also interested in how much flexibility nursing offers. Is it relatively easy to move around BC for work, work in different communities, or get into travel nursing? Are there lots of specialties and opportunities to change career paths if you get bored of one area?
I’m also curious about burnout and work-life balance. Is it possible to have a sustainable career without constantly working overtime or feeling exhausted? My body does NOT do well with constant night shifts.
Lastly, is 24 considered late to start nursing school? I know it’s not objectively old, but I’m worried about the time it’ll take to finish school and establish myself in the career.
I’d especially appreciate hearing from nurses working in BC, and I’d love honest answers about both the good and bad sides of the profession. Thanks!

Community Only Voting while immunocompromised
Is there any accommodation for those who are immunocompromised? With the flu and Covid going around again, it's really not ideal for both people who have weak immune systems and those living in the same household with them, to be stuck in an enclosed space for potentially several hours.
ETA: I meant for the BC election. Will get vote-by-mail packages. Thank you!

Ask British Columbia Would it be a bad idea to try to camp at Chilko Lake next weekend?
I missed camping all summer and I’ve got itchy feet to get out even just for one night before the summer ends. I’d love a little adventure so a big drive north to Chilko Lake would scratch my itch to go outside.
Is it too late? Would there be a lot of snow by now? Would I need to bring specific winter-rated gear? And how dangerous is the bear situation at this time of year? (I know it’s the salmon run, but does that translate into danger for campers too?)
