iPhone The iPhone Duo’s cooling system hides a clever trick inside its hinge

Apple’s foldable iPhone Duo runs a flexible graphite pipe through the hinge to move heat between the two halves, preventing hot spots when closed. It’s part of a bigger A20 Pro cooling redesign — direct chip cooling, “metal over foam,” and a floating vapor chamber — enabling ~35% higher sustained GPU performance than the iPhone 17 Pro.

Apple Intelligence iOS 27 and Watch OS 27

Man, I dunno.. “Apple Intelligence“ is kind of ass.. Siri isn’t learning name pronunciation unless you add a field for correct pronunciation in the contacts app any longer? Also, raise to speak is not working as well as it was on watchOS 26? Like, it’s working 10% of the time for me, if that even. Also, I don’t know what the hell is causing this, but my phone keeps disconnecting from my Wi-Fi network to cell randomly when no other devices are. I have already turned off connectivity assist.

Very underwhelming and frustrating.

Apple Intelligence Congrats Apple, you ruined one of two things I used Siri for

1.0k Upvotes

I said to Siri, using my watch button to trigger it: "Remind me in 4 hours to give the dog her medication"

Siri proudly proclaimed on my watch screen: "At 5:00pm you can give your dog her medication"

That was it. No entry in Reminders, nothing else. I have done this exact thing countless times since I first got an Apple Watch in 2015. It has literally never failed if it understood me correctly until today. I cannot overstate how much I hate the current state of software in the world.

Edit: when the reminder happened that I set with my phone there were TWO! One of them just said “reminder” 🙃 good job guys

>Tested the all-new base model M6 Mac mini (16GB RAM, 256GB Storage) to see if it can handle heavy gaming.

>From native Mac App Store hits to demanding Windows titles running through GameHub, the 12-core M6 chip delivered surprisingly solid performance.

>I benchmarked its CPU and GPU against desktop heavy hitters like AMD's 9800X3D and Nvidia's RTX 4060, then ran it through 7 AAA games including Cyberpunk 2077, Crimson Desert, and Ghost of Tsushima to evaluate native resolutions and MetalFX upscaling.

Promo Sunday I built Halo - A better version of Siri AI thats focused on privacy

Hello friends,

I launched Halo last week, Halo is basically Siri AI but on steroids. It connects with everything on your iPhone and lets you use the latest SOTA models such as Opus 5.5/Sol along with it's own agentic browser to let you do everything that products like Instinct, Poke do but stores all user data on device.

Halo is privacy focused personal assistant for iOS that uses a custom built agent harness with support to use you existing LLM subscriptions, Wiki based memory system backed by on-device RAG, a full-fledged local browser agent, chat with generative UI and more.

TLDR: It's a better version of Hermes/OpenClaw for iOS, without needing a server! The better part is its proactive feature set and UX.

---

I started building Halo last year with 3 goals in mind:

  • Surface what’s important before I have to ask
  • Understand my life through the apps I already use
  • Keep my personal data on my device

Privacy is at the core of Halo and that's what sets it apart from other AI assistants. While other popular assistants on iOS save your private data such as emails, messages, etc on their servers, Halo stores all of it on your device.

I launched it with a 50% discount for early adopters. There is no subscription, just a single lifetime plan with a no-charge-at-end free trial. US price is $49 with PPP of up to 80% off for other countries like India.

More details here:

Official website: https://meethalo.app

Read more about the memory system: https://meethalo.app/blog/how-halo-remembers/

X posts about building it publicly: https://x.com/search?q=from%3Atanmays%20halo

App Store link: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6783715054

---

Please try it out, I promise it's not like any other AI assistant you tried and truly one of a kind iOS app. I spent more than a year building it. Would love to answer any questions you might have.

Promo Sunday Eight Shot - Instant Camera App

I built Eight Shot to scratch that itch of shooting instant film when you're away from your cameras.

With Eight Shot you can shoot square, mini and wide instant photos. You can tap on them and flip them to the back and write a secret message just like real instant photos

You can load in different film packs and enjoy a new shooting experience every time, shoot black and white, black and yellow and many more.

Want to share your photos privately with your friends, you can with the shared album feature, a private feed for your and all your friends.

Check it out here: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/eight-shot-instant-camera/id6787720606

Promo Sunday LuminaClean - Gave a boring utility app a little personality

Hey everyone!

There’s someone living in my photo cleaner now.

Her name is Lumina.

She goes through your camera roll, finds the things you’ve been pretending you’ll clean up someday, and judges you for them.

She eats the photos you delete. They tumble into a glowing hole and disappear into her world.

Small cleanup, small snack.

Give her a big batch and she briefly loses her composure. She resurfaces with stuffed cheeks, fixes her hair, and pretends nothing happened.

And despite everything she has to say about your camera roll, she keeps a blurry Polaroid of her own because she “needs that one.”

I’ve been slowly turning LuminaClean from a utility into a little world with a character living inside it. I want cleaning your camera roll to feel less like maintenance and more like interacting with someone who happens to live there and hopefully leave you with a little smirk along the way.

Underneath all of that, it’s still a photo cleaner: swipe to keep or delete, review duplicates and similar shots, find blurry photos and large videos. Everything is processed on-device, and you always decide what goes.

This isn’t the final version of what I have in mind. It’s the direction I’m heading.

I know the world probably doesn’t need another photo cleaning app. There are enough of those already.

So I’m trying to make this one feel a little less like another utility and a little more like its own strange little place.

App Store: LuminClean - appstore link

Thanks for checking it out!

Promo Sunday Apple said “no” to Mac apps on iPad at WWDC 2018. Today, I shipped as close as we can get to a yes: Sill, free and open source, on the App Store today!

Hello [r/Apple](r/Apple)! I am really excited to share a project that is near and dear to my heart: my first iOS app Sill, now on the App Store!

Apple famously said no at WWDC 2018: macOS and iOS were going to be kept separate. Mac apps could functionally run on an iPad, but Apple chose to segment their products to protect the experience they wanted, and the dream of using Mac apps on an iPad was never going to be realized, by design. So today, that no turns into a yes.

Sill shows any window from your Mac, or its whole desktop, on your iPhone or iPad, and lets you use it with touch, a keyboard, an on-screen trackpad or Apple Pencil. Unlike remote desktop apps that squeeze a whole screen into a viewport, Sill streams one window at a time, resized to fit your device, with the Mac's windows, apps and menus as native controls on the device. It streams straight from your Mac to your device over your own network, so there is no account to create and no server in between. You pair each device once, and every connection is encrypted. Both parts are free: the Sill app for iPhone and iPad, and Sill for Mac.

Streaming

* Any single Mac window, or the whole desktop, on your iPhone or iPad
* Hardware HEVC video, up to 120 fps on ProMotion screens (60 elsewhere); the rate follows each device
* Seven quality presets, from Low (4 Mbps) to Extreme (150 Mbps), plus Resolution, a frame-rate limit and Prioritize Encoding Speed
* Text size (Aa): resizes the Mac window to fit your screen, so text is the size you want
* Optional virtual display: a window streams from its own HiDPI display, sized to your device, and keeps updating even when covered on the Mac; full-screen video works too

Controls

* Touch: tap to click, drag to scroll with momentum, touch and hold to right-click
* Apple Pencil as the mouse, with hover
* Software and hardware keyboards, with ⌘, ⌃ and ⌥ shortcuts, plus a key row with latching modifiers and a Spotlight key
* Laptop layout when you hold the device upright: the picture on top, a key row and a trackpad (two-finger scroll, two-finger tap, hold then drag, three-finger gestures for Mission Control, App Exposé, switching Spaces, Apps and Show Desktop)
* Dedicated iPhone and iPad layouts, and it's made for iPhone Duo: open it flat and your Mac fills the inner display; half open, it's a laptop with the picture above the fold and the trackpad and keys below; closed, Sill runs on the cover display. Nothing you touch sits on the fold.
* Each Mac app's menus (File, Edit, View, etc.) on your device: in the iPad's own menu bar on iPadOS 26, or behind a Menus button
* Window thumbnails: switch with a tap; hold one for close, minimize and full screen; drag to reorder
* An Apps drawer: open windows and every installed app, with search, and it launches apps

Connecting

* Finds your Mac automatically; each Mac shows how it's reached: Wired, Wi-Fi, Direct or Remote
* USB cable support, and a live session moves between the cable and Wi-Fi without dropping
* Direct Wireless Connection (optional), for when you and your Mac don't share a network
* Remote Access from anywhere through your own VPN, such as Tailscale, or a port forward
* Away from home, a session starts at a quality a slower connection can carry, your Mac tells you when the link can't keep up and suggests one it can, and when you get home the session moves back to your home network by itself
* Pairing: every connection encrypted with TLS 1.3; pair each device once by QR code or a 12-digit code, and a USB cable pairs by itself; Require pairing is on by default
* The Mac keeps its keys in the protected part of its keychain that only Sill can read

Sill for Mac

* A ~7 MB menu bar app with a live status card: each device, its frame rate and latency
* Settings: General, Devices, Streaming, Virtual Display, Remote Access and Permissions
* Launch at Login, a log window, and an update check that tells you when a new version is out
* A notarized disk image download from getsill.app

Sill for iPhone and iPad

* A Settings panel that changes the Mac's stream settings and shows the connection and latency
* A first-run tour, and Take the Tour to replay it
* Tells you when the Mac or the device needs an update

Free and open source (Apache 2.0), with a tip jar through GitHub Sponsors. No account, no servers, no tracking: video goes straight from your Mac to your device.

Since Sill has no operating costs, I wanted the source to be open for the community to use and mold however they need, forever. And since it's open source, I figured I might as well make it free. Tips support the time I put into it and the Apple developer fees.

Needs a Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 14 or later, and an iPhone or iPad on iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 or later.

* App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6816359860
* Sill for Mac and the website: https://getsill.app/
* Early builds on TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/6v7nqyn3
* Source: https://github.com/Saffsanity/sill (and the site: https://github.com/Saffsanity/sill-site)

Promo Sunday For Mac users whose work runs on Google Calendar: we made hora, a native app. $2.99/month or $59.99 once

Hi r/apple, I'm Maciej, one of the two people behind hora. Disclosure up front: this is my app, and I'm posting it for Promo Sunday.

I've been working on it full days since the start of this year, and I'd love to share it with the Apple community.

A lot of us use a Mac while work runs on Google Workspace. You end up with Google Calendar in a browser tab, or Apple Calendar over CalDAV, where things like meeting rooms, Focus Time or Working Location don't really come through.

hora talks to the Google Calendar API directly and is written in Swift and SwiftUI, no Electron or web views. Several Google accounts in one window, your next meeting in the menu bar with one-click join for Meet, Zoom and Teams, Focus Time and Out of Office intact, and it works offline.

What it doesn't do: iCloud. It's Google only for now.

A lot of you are done with subscriptions, and honestly, we get it. The subscription is there so you don't have to commit forever. But we totally understand wanting to pay once, so we added a one-time lifetime option too.

7-day trial, no card. Then $2.99/month, $29.99/year, or $59.99 once for lifetime (14-day refund when you buy direct). Also on the Mac App Store, where Family Sharing works, and in Setapp. macOS 15+. An iPhone and iPad app is in beta and will be included in the same subscription and lifetime license.

Your events don't pass through our servers, they go between your Mac and Google.

horacal.app

Most of the best ideas in hora so far came from people's feedback, including the lifetime option. So, question for you: what's one thing Apple Calendar gets right that a Google calendar app on the Mac should never mess up?

Promo Sunday I built chordlist, a songbook for iPhone and iPad that keeps every song as a Markdown file

chordlist is a songbook app for iPhone and iPad (iOS 26 or later). Lyrics and chords live in one Markdown file per song, in a folder you choose, so they work with iCloud Drive, Obsidian or any text editor. No account, and your library is never uploaded.

What sets it apart from services like Ultimate Guitar is that the chords are stored separately from the lyrics, not as characters over each line. This lets chordlist find songs in your library that share a progression, even in different keys, so learning one song teaches you others, and two songs with the same changes make an easy mashup.

Features
- Transpose and autoscroll
- Filter by tags, search and shuffle
- Import from a web link or the share sheet

Pricing: your first 10 songs are free, then a one-time unlock for unlimited songs, no subscription. The launch price is €6.99 / $5.99 until the end of the year; after that it will increase €9.99 / $8.99.
This special offer code gets it for €4.99.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6798344297
Website: https://chordlist.app
ProductHunt: https://www.producthunt.com/products/chordlist

If you use an app while playing instruments, what's the one thing that would make you switch from your current solution?
