I had a DODOCase for my old Macbook Air 13 (Pre-M series), and that thing was beautiful: leather bound, bamboo frame for the laptop, looked like an old leather book. It survived Afghanistan, motorcycle adventures in the Andes and the Himalayas, and everything in between, and still looks gorgeous; the only reason I'm not still using it is because that laptop's too old to be a daily driver.
Sadly, DODO doesn't make a case for my new Macbook Pro 16 (only sleeves), but I was happy to see they had a similar book case for the Ipad Pro 13. I was expecting something similar to what I had before.
The good:
The case is beautiful. I didn't get leather this time (which, in hindsight, I probably should have), but it looks exactly like a green notebook, and feels that way in the hand. I'm a big guy, so the weight of the case + Ipad Pro isn't too much of a problem for me if I'm hand-holding it for MBA notes, cybersecurity exam prep, etc. It works really well as a sofa-productivity or hookah-smoking productivity setup.
The bad:
The quality control and customer support are...well, like an entirely different company. This case clearly wasn't designed for the weight of the Ipad Pro, and it can't hold itself at any viewing angle...it just slides down until the cardboard can't flex any more. It lasted a month of sofa use (not even in direct sunlight) before the strap-like things holding the edges together began disintegrating, leaving this gooey glue residue that'll get on your fingers every time you use it. I'd read reviews saying the plastic frame will snap when you take the Ipad out of the case, so I haven't taken mine out since it was mounted; can't speak to whether mine has this issue.
I've reached out to DODOCase multiple times (my 7th attempt just now) since mid-September with no response from their email, and a chat system that just says to send an email (and that they have no record of any of my emails). There doesn't seem to be any customer support beyond that.
Overall:
On the whole, I'd probably live with it if this was a cheaper shipped-from-China product, but they're still priced very much at the "artisanal bookbinders from San Francisco" vibe; I think I paid $120 or more for this. At that level, I would have hoped for something much higher quality, backed by some functioning customer support, similar to what their product line used to be like.
I'll update if they ever respond to me, but I'm most likely going to begin hunting for a book-like leatherbound case for the Macbook Pro from other brands and see what else is out there. If anyone has recommendations, please let me know!
