DISCUSSIONS Should Shula be fired?

Post image
66 Upvotes

The Rams should consider firing Chris Shula because the defense hasn't consistently played up to its talent level.

His conservative scheme and reliance on zone coverage can limit the abilities of the players they’ve invested in, and the defense has struggled in important games.

With McVay and Stafford trying to win another Super Bowl, they can’t afford to waste their championship window on a defense that fails when it matters most. At some point, if the same problems keep showing up, it’s fair to question whether Shula is the right guy to lead the defense.

DISCUSSIONS Another Mcvay mistake

I like him and think he is a great coach but jeez when are people going to wake up and realize he does this all the time in close games, and another thing people who are saying the team will be fine and they start out early not having a good record in the last few years, how has that worked out in the end

Anybody starting to think we wasted a first round pick on a third string QB?

Absolutely any of the first 100 picks could have been helping this team.

The good news is that we know what the problems are and they are fixable

The Rams have 5 very winnable games going into the bye week. That will put us at 7-3, fully healthy and ready for a playoff push when it counts.

Some coaching tweaks aside (I’m looking at you SHULA and McVay), a new kicker and an enema to detox our toxic special teams will get this ship right.

The Rams will be fine.

DISCUSSIONS The overreactions are wild

Don't get me wrong; this team can't keep losing the way they did last night. It's embarrassing. Though what's more embarrassing is the "fire Shula", "division is out of reach", and "this team is ass" takes causally thrown around here. Doomers gotta stahhhhp.

> Fact 1: This team is literally a blocked FG and terrible DPI call away from being 4-1.

> Fact 2: The defense is top 10 in yards allowed per game (3rd), EPA/play (10th), and 3rd down conversion rate allowed (9th). The defense and/or the defensive play calling is not the problem. Unfortunately, we match up horribly with mobile QBs.

> Fact 3: This team has yet to play up to its potential (especially the offense). Only the win against the Giants was a "clean" game.

> Fact 4: Special teams is fucked. BUT if McVay can be honest with himself (that this is his mess) and commits to the strategy (All Gas, No Break i.e - FGs are a last resort, minimize ST role in the game), it could partially mitigate the issue.

> Fact 5: Division is far from decided. 9ers have a tough Nov + Dec sched and mounting injuries. Hawks have a 1-dimensional offense that's turnover prone.

Everybody gotta chill.

Next October?

I truly believe this will be McVay’s last season with the Rams. When it’s over, I can see him walking away and using a thousand adjectives to explain that he hasn’t coached up to his own standards the last couple of years and that he needs some time to step away, reset, and regroup.
He already has the TV opportunity waiting for him, and if Stafford decides to hang it up after this season, I think that makes McVay’s decision even easier.
To me, Sean looks tired of everything that comes with being a head coach. I think he’d be perfectly happy calling an offense, talking football on TV, and not having to deal with things like special teams and all the other headaches that come with running an entire team.
Maybe I’m completely wrong, but that’s where I think this is headed. We’ll see.

DISCUSSIONS Everyone Relax | Optimism

This might be the most reactionary negative fanbase I’ve seen. I understand getting pissed but calling for McVay to be fired is quite literally the stupidest thing to be said.

_______________

The special teams unit is statistically the worst the NFL has ever seen. We know. Everyone knows. Mevis will be cut and it’s another game costed but by the looks of McVay’s interview there will FINALLY be something seriously done.
LiTtLe LaTe ToO LaTe, no shit, but better to have changes be had now than never.

_______________

As for the defensive woes last night, the pass defense held up and the pass rush got pressure, but Josh Allen is a unicorn of a player, he’s gonna make plays, just gotta live with it. The run defense looked rough but again, the Bills have an elite run game, it is what it is. Not having confidence in Shula is valid but once Garrett returns and ramps up, this team will be moving different.

_______________

No game is guaranteed in the NFL, but the next 5 before the bye are all very winnable and I’m gonna trust the MVP and this team to enter the bye 7-3

The doomers calling for all these firings and cuts really needa put the phone down and take a breather lmao. It’s tough to hear but you aren’t real fans if you’re already giving up on this team.

Get right game vs Arizona

DISCUSSIONS Am I an idiot?

Why didn’t we put a QB spy on Josh Allen all night? Felt like he was exclusively beating us with his legs. I could be an idiot and not understand the nuance so am I wrong? Would that not have at least helped? I think we are okay by the way, not dooming. Frustrated with a lot of the mistakes but I believe we can get it together. Maybe outside of special teams I think we are just doomed there 😂

Special teams -

My issue with this is rams fired their special teams coach last year to continue to have the same issues this year . SMH that coordinator wasn’t the problem. They used that as a scapegoat move to deflect from a roster structure heavily underfunded on special teams by upper management. He didn’t deserve to be fired if the rams are having the same issues.

DISCUSSIONS Couple of mis-steps by Mcvay havent seen anyone point out yet.

  1. going for 2 pt conversion when the game was 20-19 is a mistake imo. I get the thought process of going up 3 there to keep the fg lead, but I feel it was a little short sighted because the way the teams were going, a fg wasnt going to be the difference but also because it then allows them to tie the game with the 2pt conversion once the game is 27-27 whereas the game SHOULD have been 28-27 us if we simply kick the PAT. I feel like putting the game potentially to a 2 score game is more important in the future than making sure we are tied with a fg early in the 2nd half. Rather than it being potentially 27-19 it could have been 28-19 and having that 2 possession lead is the crucial part of the game theory imo.

Ultimately it didnt change much because the bills ended up scoring to make it 34-27 but there exists a world where it would have been 28-27 with the bills driving late and that puts a little more pressure on them to know they NEED a fg or td to take the lead and the game isnt tied.

  1. The amount of time they let run off the clock at the end of regulation was ALMOST as bad as some of the timing blunders we saw across the league. If kyren didnt score there on 1st down then it would have been 2nd and goal with like 3-4 seconds left and leaving us time for literally one play. Whereas if we had snapped it earlier at like 20 seconds and dont get it on the kyren run then it would be 2nd and goal with like 15 or so seconds left which GIVES YOU THE TIME required to be able to run all 4 downs if needed. We could have easily lost that game on 2nd and goal and RAN out of time despite it being only 2nd down and despite us HAVING the time originally.

All in on the field

We went all in on getting players. Why didn't we trust Stafford to get 5 yards, even if it took two tries.

And if McVay is too loyal to fire Shula ,should he step down ?

I think it's time to stop being conservative.

Nobody wanted Shula as a HC.

He is still the same scared DC we had last year.

Why get the players if you aren't going to be aggressive on the field.

I felt sick after that game last night.

What does everybody think?

The entire starting offensive line was in that Field Goal attempt but can somebody explain to me why Shelton and Dotson are on the left side of the line? Why is Avila and Jackson on the right side?? This just doesnt make sense to me.

DISCUSSIONS Ramily it’s a new day, go outside touch some grass everything will be okay lol

We’re 2-3, I get it, not ideal after 5 games, but definitely not a playoff death sentence. Mevis hopefully gets relieved of his duties today, but outside of that, everything else I’m seeing in here is an extreme overreaction. Offense is finding its rhythm and something tells me Les Snead got one more rabbit in his hat at the trade deadline for another offensive playmaker.

Alaric Jackson will be suspended, it wasn’t smart to punch an opponent after a game. That’s a grown man we don’t know what was said after Chubb put his hand in his face, he’ll face his suspension and we’ll survive this next portion of the schedule without him. But to hear y’all whine to release one of the best graded LT in the league? Yeah the Rams not stupid lol

Lastly, our defense will be just fine. Yesterday was clearly a bad scheme for one of the hardest players in the game to defend. Our defense has been solid in both the pass and run game until last night when we couldn’t contain Josh Allen, but you learn from that. We’re a top 5 defense that’s ADDING MYLES FREAKING GARRETT! Like let’s chill and check back in at the bye week when we 7-3.

DISCUSSIONS What happened to Turner?

I honestly don’t recall the ESPN crew ever mentioning his name last night.

But I saw this morning he had 3 assisted tackles in the game. No solo tackles or sacks.

Did he leave the game injured???

He’s been a huge disappointment this year so far along with the rest of the run stoppers.

Once Again - Welcome to Our John Harbaugh Era!

I for one enjoy watching this era of Rams football where they are pretty good but not really and keep shooting themselves in the d&ckhole while McVay continues to squander good talent wearing his "I Won a Super Bowl" Kevlar vest
