Jet ski rental procedures?
I recently rented a jet ski in Florida and could use some advice from people who know more about this stuff than I do. We paid for a two hour guided tour with about a dozen other riders, all beginners, including some children.
When we returned it, we were charged $150 for a 1½ inch scuff on the black rubber trim around the edge of the ski. The staff had made a point of telling us how brand new the machines were, so I wasn't sure if that had something to do with the price.
I don't know what this stuff normally costs. But their quoted rate of $100 an inch seemed pretty crazy to me. On top of that, we weren't provided with a proper estimate or invoice for the repair, and we were told the watercraft would be out of service for days while the repairs were made, costing the company even more in lost rental income.
Fwiw another party on our tour was also charged for damage. Looking through the company’s Google reviews afterward, it seems like this may be a common trend. Is this type of charge actually reasonable at $100/inch of rubber trim, or does it sound excessive?
