How should I repair the hull? fiberglass or gelcoat only?
on my last trip, my sail ripped all the way down, I lost control in the current and got pushed onto some rocks.
Luckily, the boat didn't sink, and some fishermen came to help me.
I need to fix the damage to the hull,
do you think I need to use fiberglass, or is gelcoat enough?
what steps should I follow to repair it properly?

Mouse- free boat storage?
Taking my boat out of the water this weekend and I'm debating storing it at my house instead of at a marina because last winter, mice tore up my upholstery when the marina sored it in a field. How can I prevent mice from getting into my boat

Garmin Fishing Unit
I am currently trying to decide if I want to purchase this saltwater boat. It comes with the mounting unit for a Garmin device. However, the owner does not have the device and does not know what unit goes for this mount.
If anyone has any knowledge on what device fits in this unit I would be greatly appreciative.

2011 outboard motor issues
Currently have a 2011 30hp tiller Merc with electric start and trim.
Having issues with the electric start. If it doesn't beep initially it will not start. It's like I need to start/stop the motor 3 or 4 times before the beep goes and then it will fire up.

Broken Transducer
Ok guys I need some help. I guess I hit something in the water and broke my transducer on my depth finder. I tried JB weld but no luck. So where can I buy one and also does it have to be required all the way back to the screen or is there a connection somewhere up line. Or do I have to cut and splice.

Replacement plug?
Hey guys, so bought a sweet little Tracker Grizzly 1650T and itās a nice little boat. however, it has a freaking 2ā transom plug. I was supplied with a 2ā PVC plug for it(how crappy is that?)
Does anyone have a good upgrade for it? Thats currently my only complaint about the boat but itās really a pain in the ass to have to bust out the channel locks every time I get home and have to run that long winded plug out
Thank you!
Outboard wonāt trim up while underway; any advice?
Iāve googled and checked old forums and couldnāt find any conclusive advice so I wanted to come here; apologies if this is a dumb question.
I have a 95 Bayliner with a 120HP Force motor that I use restored this summer. The motor had less than 200 hours on it and replacing the rotten decking was the major challenge.
I performed a complete motor service and replaced a bad stator and found the integral tilt/trim cylinder had a leak around the seal. I replaced the tilt/trim motor and refilled the cylinder and confirmed the tilt/trim works perfectly and the cylinder is at full capacity when level.
I took the boat out to the water a few weekends ago and at the dock, I was able to trim the motor down into the water, reverse from the dock, and at low speed, I have full tilt/trim control. As I got underway, I was nosing up too high so I tried to trim up to bring the bow down and found that while underway, tilt/trim does not move the motor. I can hear the relay click under the cowling and Iām certain voltage is happening but no dice on movement.
I was just out fishing so I putted around the lake without issue. When I returned to the dock, I was in the same scenario that under low speed, the tilt/trim still works and once I was on the trailer I was able to tilt the motor fully out of the water.
In the driveway, Iāve tested that, while pushing back against the motor to add force against the cylinder, tilt/trim operates fine. It only appears to happen when underway.
Any suggestions on what it could be? I tested the kill switch and the Force 120HP doesnāt have any special tilt controls other than over current protection when at full up/full down positions and didnāt seem like that was my cause either.

Curious - what is this?
Need help identifying this vessel.
Looks amphibian, but it's probably not.
Located in Scandinavia, if it's any help.
TIA

Buying used bass tracker or similar
Are any of these used boats for $2500-4500 actually worth it? I understand some work might have to be put in. But Iām just looking for a nice fishing boat for mostly calm waters. It would be my first boat and I understand it wonāt be my dream one. But is it possible to find a decent boat in this range and slowly upgrade as I go?

Boaters: How often do you encounter partially submerged logs or ādeadheadsā?
Hi everyone,
Iām a UBC Mechanical Engineering student working with a team on a design project focused on deadheads, meaning floating or partially submerged logs that can create a collision hazard for boats.
Our project is specifically looking at coastal British Columbia, but Iād be interested in experiences from anywhere, especially if this is also a problem in your area.
Iām hoping to hear from boaters about things like:
- How often you encounter floating or partially submerged logs
- Where you tend to see them and under what conditions
- Whether youāve ever hit one or had a close call
- How difficult they are to spot, especially at speed, at night, in waves, or poor weather
- Any damage or safety issues youāve experienced
- What you currently do if you see one
- Whether there is any system in your area for reporting or warning others about them
- What you think could be improved about how these hazards are detected, reported, prevented, or removed
- If a better system existed, what would you actually want it to do?
- Any ideas for potential solutions, even if they seem unconventional
Weāre still at the problem-definition stage, so weāre not trying to push any particular solution. Weāre mainly trying to understand what boaters actually experience and what would be useful.
Even short responses like āI see them all the time but have never hit oneā or āI hit one once and damaged my propā would be really helpful.
Thanks!

5HP motor?
Need a 5hp motor for my s15 sportspal canoe. Found a guy on marketplace with a Honda BF5. Says he hasnāt run it since July but Honda is a good brand. Itās going for $500. Asked my dad and he said to go for a mercury or evinrude.
Been between propane and gas. Leaning towards gas because mechanic reliability and help on the water. But Iām also kind of lazy and donāt take my boat out that much except for in the fall. Should I really go gas? Any benefit to propane?
Any surprises or suggestions? I have an electric trolling motor and itās been great just looking for longer and faster.

Robalo R180, 24' vs 26'
Hello all,
Looking at getting my first boat (already signed up for some boating academy classes) and after some research it seems like these fit my size, budget, use preferences.
Was curious while shopping Ive seen numerous 2026 models and a few leftover 2024 models. Does anyone know of any significant differences in the two years? From what I gather the hull itself hasnt changed but I wanted to be sure Im not missing something.
As a first time owner, going with a 2024 model and savings 8-10k seems like a smart play.
Thanks!

Trim/tilt noise when raising?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Got myself a boat with a Honda BF100A (2024). Engine is only on 60hrs and has been stood a while, although serviced in June.
Tis a bit noisy/slow when raising. Am I right to assume there's some air in there and topping off with fluid should see me right? Potentially drop the fluid to check for any presence of water? Something more sinister? Cheers!

How to Build a Wooden Boat: Surveying the Full Frame in the Jungle
We surveyed the full wooden frame in the jungle - from Bow to Transom - before stringers. Follow the Wooden Shoe station by station as Victor and Per check every joint, gap and epoxy fix before locking it forever. After stringers go on, it's very difficult to fix inside ā so this is our last chance to get it right.
The Bow, Keel to Bow glued, screwed and planed to a smooth curve, Station 1 OK, Station 2 Add Gflex epoxy in gaps, Station 3 OK, Station 4 OK, Station 5 Add Gflex epoxy, Station 5.5 OK, Station 6 OK, Station 7 Add Gflex epoxy, Cockpit Sole missing second layer epoxy, Station 8 OK, Station 9 gap rear side, Station 10 gap front side, Station 11 OK, Station 12 OK, Station 13 add Gflex epoxy in gap, Station 14 Transom must be glued and screwed from the top, support structures walk-through, ending with Now we have the points and lets fix this!
Building a 25FT Wooden Shoe powerboat from scratch in Mexico with Chechen wood and Cumaru hardwood. No fancy workshop ā just lofting, framing and honest fixes.
Now we have the points and lets fix this!
