Took my girl into the vet to have her teeth cleaned this morning, got a call re complications a few hours later, she was already gone when I got there.
Apparently, after sedating her, while trying to insert the breathing tube down her throat to protect her airway, her throat had an "unusual" reaction, closed and she stopped breathing. The dr tried to get a tracheotmy tube down and apply cpr, but she never recovered her breathing.
I'm sitting here struggling to process how she's gone and over a teeth cleaning. She was just 5 yrs old. I'm trying to remember her best parts and not be angry or sad.
Please send her chin scritches and wish her well where she may be.
She is 6 months old, and is so so loving already š¤

My little boy is unusually unphotogenic for how handsome he truly is. Show me the worst photos of your otherwise very handsome fellow or gal to make my guy feel better about himself

We call her Mama Charlee because when we got her, she was so skinny and small. We thought she was just a baby. Turns out she was 3 when we got her, and she had already been a mama. Now sheās all plump and her mama instincts are in full swing everyday! She cuddles for hours and will hug my arm to hold me close while I sleep. She has some congestion that the vet thinks is just allergies, but sheās been in a lot of discomfort and sheās been licking parts of her fur till itās bald :(
It makes me sad to see her so uncomfortable. Sheās getting more medicine today so hopefully it clears her up.

So distinguishable from other black cats.
Iām so sad and I miss him already and I know I will miss him even more in the future.
I remember when it was a dark night I sometimes pull the curtain back to see some beady eyes poking out from the darkness. I look closer and I see that cute little face of his. He always waited outside patiently for me and his face lit up every time he saw me.
When I walk home often from college heās sometimes hanging about the street and when he sees me he trots over to me for strokes and cuddles.
When heās not he is waiting for me in the house for me to get home.
He loved sleeping underneath my bed with all the spare pillows and blankets. All tucked up and snug. Looking so cute.
He was always so polite, listening to key words, not as good as most dogs but I canāt blame them theyāre cats. He never jumped on food services like tables. He never jumped on beds unless you signaled him to. He waited patiently for food and he really showed how excited he was to see me, especially when i had food. He wouldnāt ever scratch or bite. But sometimes he used to make biscuits so he couldnāt help sometimes pressing his claws in to my trousers when he was happy and purring.
His brother tigger is all alone now. I gave him some tuna as a sort of apology for his loss. I donāt think he knows yet. Tuna was always sootyās favourite.

Our sweetest best boy Booker is 8yo and unfortunately itās now confirmed his FeLv is progressive and heās dealing with really bad hypercalcemia, this likely means that he has cancer.
My girlfriend and I are dealing with it the best that we can but he is her soul cat, just an absolute gem and itās been beyond difficult to watch him struggle with a chronic cough, and now he is just very weak and not very interested in eating. Because heās so young we are hail-marying some fluids and diuretics this week to try and get his calcium low enough that he will eat some food, but if there is cancer or evidence thereof on imaging we have to let him go peacefully.
This is one of the hardest goodbyes Iāve had to go through. 8 years old is just so young to wrap my mind around as someone who has been with several cats whoāve passed away, but all in their late teens or 20ās. It just feels unfair, like it was meant to be different. I donāt think I need advice or guidance, I just needed to vent about a situation that is borderline irreparable and feels like it shouldnāt be happening. I appreciate anyone who reads this and Iām so sorry to everyone who has gone through this before or is going through it presently.

Tearing up making this post because we recently found out that she has cancer. Itās the most devastating thing because I never wanted to believe this day would come. Praying itās something that can be treated. We are being referred to oncology soon. Sheās grown up with my brother and I and sheās extremely special. Canāt imagine life without her. Animals should get to live forever. Itās not fair. Just had to share these precious photos of her š¤

I had to say goodbye to my sweet girl Tinky a month ago tomorrow. My family adopted her 13 years ago from our local humane society, she was a little 6 month old kitten who no one had adopted due to her medical conditions, we were told that with her chronic upper respiratory issues we would only have a year with her, she cleared those odds and lived 13 long years.
She had such a huge personality, lots of people say their cats do funny things but Tinky made sure to show you. The moment someone sat down on the sofa your lap was forfeit, didnāt matter if she had never met you or you were trying to avoid her. She was such a great older sister to our other cats, when we introduced both of the cats she never hissed or complained, she just stepped up to show them the ropes.
Around 2ish years ago she was diagnosed with diabetes, she was always such a champ when it came to the needles. In June of this year on the day of my graduation we received the news she had stage 4 kidney disease, despite the odds she stayed our happy little girl. On her last two days she stopped eating despite our best efforts, on the second day we brought her to the vet and made the decision with our vet that it was time.
My house is so much quieter without the sound of her little nose and meows. I hope that wherever you are you know how loved you were Tinky

Tree days ago, I found this little kitten. According to a neighbor, she and her sibling had been living under their car. Unfortunately, I couldnāt find her sibling.
I took her to the vet, where she was given deworming medication and treatment for ear mites. Today, she developed horrible diarrhea, but thankfully, she isnāt lethargic and is still eating well. The vet recommended a bland diet (cooked meat with broth) and probiotics.
Wish us luck! I really hope this little girl makes it. Weāve named her Toffee Cream. š¾
Its been 3 days since we said goodbye. I feel so hollow without you. Julian was the sweetest boy I've ever had. Always just wanted love.
I noticed within the last month he was eating less and becoming more lethargic. I thought his asthma was flaring up, and we had just started treatment. He was breathing heavily, and I thought that we just needed some more time for the medication to work. But something in me just knew. I took him on Friday to be seen and left with an empty carrier. Julian's chest was filled with fuild and was squishing his lungs. It was critical.
He has already been through so much medically this year and I couldn't bear putting him through a high risk procedure only for his quality of life to only be okay at best. Everywhere I go, whether it is folding laundry or finding his toys in places I wasn't expecting. It's killing me.
Julian loved warm laundry, tubes, and most of all, our afternoon and before bed snuggles. I don't know how to manage the grief I am feeling. Any advice welcome.

Iām so happy and excited and grateful I wanted to share. My sister (18 years older than me) took in a cat for a friend who became ill and then essentially surrendered āRā to my sister. It was supposed to be temporary and āRā was intended to kind of be cared for among several of the ill womanās friends until she recovered.
My sister grew up with barn cats and such but she never wanted ārealā animals (her kids had 2 fish from the carnival that lived like 15 years and my sister did gave a small bird for probably 8 years - which are pets for sure). She was retired and like traveling and never felt a desire to have anything that required much maintenance.
So, āRā started at my sisterās house and was skittish and freaked out. But my sister was patient (and called me constantly for advice) and after a while he spent some time outside of her bathroom and eventually found her bedroom and couch where she got swindled into possession via purrs and biscuits. She couldnāt see a reason why āRā should stay anywhere else so they acclimated and she was starting to enjoy all the attention he was giving her. Annnd she kinda started liking getting him treats and toys.
I asked her if her friend asked for the cat - what would she do ⦠she quickly responded with āgive him back of courseā ā¦. I was a little concerned about this - she claimed she was just doing her job to āgive him a good lifeā ā¦
Well Iāve been a cat addict. Reasonable one - I always only had one except my twin Siamese ā¦. Anyway
Fast forward- āRā canāt poop. Then he canāt eat. My sister keeps calling me in tears š ā¦. She ends up taking him twice to the ER. Both doctors tell her he has a mass causing a blockage and an operation would have low success rate and high risk for permanent disability. My sister was flat.
She had to either let him die or put him down or risk an expensive surgery that seemed to be more detrimental than helpful. She spiraled into indecision.
When she called me, I really felt like the ER and vet office veterinarians werenāt understanding what exactly she was trying to figure out. So, I asked if I could call one on her behalf but she declined, feeling like it was her responsibility and she needed to make that decision.
Well ā¦. Iām stubborn. And Iāve dealt with cat offices a lot so I actually found a surgical center near Milwaukee that does one thing : complex surgery.
I called them and explained that this was pretty much going to end in tragedy unless someone who had some deeper understanding of āRāās situation saw him like NOW. They agreed to see him in 2 hours. All other vets were unavailable and she would either have to continue ER for poop extraction or risk waiting 4 ish days for deeper evaluation.
My sister is fortunate that she had an emergency thing set aside for her or her husbandās health care so when I told her she had an appointment with a surgeon and it might be xxx plus the consultation ⦠and that I was really sorry I took control and kind of strong armed the situation⦠she was ecstatic ! (Phew)
My sister just really needed real information on āRā to make a choice.
As it turned out, he was found to be a very healthy cat except this and they had full faith of an excellent outcome. They got him in the next day (or maybe 2 days later) ⦠and yes it was xxx but he turned out fine and is happily making biscuits and hanging out in his ācamperā ā¦. OH and even better - the mass turned out to be non-cancerous and they believe it was possible he had a prior injury there. He poops great now and my sister is just so happyā¦
This is true love. Iām grateful he came to be with my sister, that Iām so hard headed, and that she is so compassionate. His prior owner would have never had the stuff or strength to do this.
Look at him now!! I bought him a banana to celebrate!!

Im not going into details but no matter how smart you think your cat is, and how they would "never" slip if you live in a high floor apartment, they can, dont make my mistakes
Anyway this was my absolute angel of a cat, Maggie, only had her for about 7 months and she died so early. I'll miss her forever and I dont think I've will ever find another one like her.

Is she ok? It didnāt seem like she was actually breathing through her mouth but itās still weird and sheās never did it before. I would take her to the vet but Iām a new cat owner and I just want to make sure this isnāt a weird cat behavior like them squinting at you.
Sheās 7 months old, no health issues, had all her shots, sheās gonna be spayed at the first of November (wouldāve been sooner but no vet would spay her before six months and then she had a uti that cost over half a grand and that took priority).

About six weeks ago, I adopted a 1 year old puppy from a local shelter. She was a stray intake, and I was warned she trusts animals far more than she does people. She came with the name Hallie and seemed to recognize it, so we kept it. It turns out the shelter employees were right ā it takes her time to trust humans, but she is an instant friend to every animal she meets.
About a week ago we were on a walk, and Hallie laid down on the sidewalk with her tail wagging. I thought she was just being a silly puppy but when I got down on her level, I could see a cat looking at us from underneath a nearby parked car. After some coaxing, a sweet little tortoiseshell kitty walked up to up to us. The animals sniffed each other, and seemed to immediately accept each other as friends. She purred as I pet her, and I could feel she was just skin and bones.
After a 10 minute visit we got up to continue our walk, and the kitty followed us the entire half-mile or so home. Although I love all animals I'm highly allergic to cats and had no cat food on hand, but gave her a can of tuna she quickly inhaled. It broke my heart to have to leave her on the front porch, but I told myself if she was still out there the next day, I would get some cat food and make sure she was at least eating regularly.
Well, the cat never left. She greatly enjoys human affection and happily climbs in my lap every time I come out to the porch. At first I thought maybe her ear was clipped, but upon further inspection it's just a little bit rolled over at the tip, and she has no belly tattoo or spay scar I can see. A couple days ago I took her to be scanned for a chip, and she didn't have one. No one has replied to any of my local and/or neighborhood posts about a potential lost cat. She's very young, and incredibly friendly.
I noticed she had a bit of a belly on her, and worried she was pregnant, I got her into a local vet. She is not (never thought I'd be so relieved to hear "it's just worms"!), but with the number of stray cats in the area it's only a matter of time, so we have a spay scheduled next week. She has made fast friends with both my dog and my human daughter, and my human daughter recently decided to name the kitty Willow. I have a shelf in my pantry now dedicated to cat food, and greatly look forward to spending time with Willow each day.
Here's the crazy part: I've been insanely allergic to cats my whole life. Swollen face, stuffy nose, covered in hives, itchy throat from just the quickest exposure. But after continued snuggle sessions with Willow, the allergies have all but gone away. Even when she makes biscuits on my lap and I can feel her claws digging in, I have no reaction anymore. She will be indoors while she is recovering from her spay procedure, and since she seems so dedicated to domesticating herself, she's welcome to stay.
The only cats I ever had growing up were barn cats, and I suffered the consequences every time I pet them. I've loved cats for 35 years from afar, but have never been able to have one. Who knew all it would take was adopting a dog to have the universal cat distribution system shine favor upon me?
Welcome home Willow, we are so happy to have you ā„ļø

The building cat that Iāve fed for over 2yrs came back on my birthday with his cheek-ear bitten off by a dog!
He does disappear often and comes back just the same so we werenāt worried. But seeing him so wounded broke our heart.
Heās just done with surgery! Send prayer š„ŗ
