This was the last video I ever took of my boy Sid.
Tbh I've never been a person to take too many pictures or videos, but I thought it would be a nice touch to just send a video of my cat to a group chat I was in back in 2020.
We had him since he was but a little kitty, because the CDS brought us his mom, and his mom really wasn't one to just hang around the house, so she was kind of a mess when it came to knowing where she was or what she was up to.
Anyways, as you may be able to deduce from the video, I wasn't in the US at this moment, instead I was living in a different country where it's actually pretty common to see animals just walking by themselves in the streets, as long as they didn't disturb anyone, nobody really cared.
This is important because of what would happen some time after this video was taken.
Unlike his mom, Sid actually quite liked staying at home, he would sunbathe in our front... Yard? (I guess?, I don't know how to call it other than a small piece of land where my grandpa would park his car), and he would just kind of chill around the block and barely ever go further than that, which is one of the reasons why I liked him so much, THIS MF WAS LOYAL, or probably didn't see much reason to leave the house since he was fed daily, he was a big boy, not like **obese** big, just big.
Anyways, one day after school, Sid wasn't at his usual resting spot by the time I came home (My classes were in the evening, so he would usually be home by the time I came back) it wasn't completely rare to not see him by that time, it usually meant he was probably sleeping somewhere else so I didn't think much of it, night time came and still nothing.
It wasn't until the next day I believe, that I saw Sid in the front of our house, the first thing I noticed was that he hadn't touched his food yet, it was weird because knowing his fatass, he would not have let a single piece of kibble behind, it wasn't until I approached him to give him some head pats that I noticed.
He had this wound on his neck, it looked really recent as it was still bleeding a bit and the poor guy just looked really in pain.
I didn't even know what to do at that moment, my mom was away at work and my grandpa was probably sleeping, foolish me tried to downplay the situation, "Surely he'll be fine, he HAS gotten hurt before from fights he's had with this stray that bullies him for his food, and he has recovered from those just fine", listen, I know what some of you might be thinking, i wished it would've been as easy as just taking him to the vet.
It was unfortunate really, since animals aren't really seen in the same way back there as they are here in the US, veterinarians aren't all that common to find (At least not in that moment, some months ago I went back there, and I saw a good bunch of new vet clinics that looked pretty well equipped) let alone someone that can treat to an animals wounds, after I let my mom know about Sids situation we really couldn't find a solution to our problem, it only got worse because my mom really didn't have the money to help Sid and the only way we could help him was if he was able to hold on for long enough for my mom to get paid, the poor guy had to hold on for a few weeks and it would pain me to see him in the state that he was, he was getting thinner and the wound just wasn't healing.
Fortunately, Sid was tough as nails and managed to hold on for pay day, we were also able to spot a clinic that was like 40 minutes away from our home. Unfortunately if you remember the year I mentioned when this video is from, you may be able to realize what came to happen.
A few days before my mom got paid, Lockdown began, nobody was allowed out of their houses, authorities didn't even know how to react to emergencies without putting themselves at risk of getting COVID, and so I came to realize what would happen.
2 days after my mom got paid, my grandpa found Sid laying on the ground, unmoved by anything going around him, he had passed away.
I'm not one to cry over animals, not that I want to show how PROUD I am over that fact, but seeing poor Sid there and realizing just the amount of pain he must have endured, it did move me a bit, it did hurt a bit.
I know it's a long story but anyone I ever try to tell this story doesn't seem too interested to know what happened, but I think you guys will (I think).
I hate when people say that cats are selfish, Sid was legitimately the most Loyal cat I think I've ever known, he literally could have left whenever he wanted to (Like how his mom did) yet he decided to stay at home, with us. After some thought, my grandpa came to the conclusion that he was probably attacked by a stray dog, which would explain why the wound was so deep since normal cat scratches wouldn't have been able to do that much damage I don't think.
I still think about him sometimes.
