I might be in the minority on this, but I am entirely uninterested in movies that adapt comic storylines I've already read a million times. Giving the writers more freedom to explore the core traits of these heroes by giving them a different (and often more diverse) character under the same title allows for more interesting and original films.
Blue Beetle (2023): This movie is so fucking underrated for a million reasons, and how it utilizes Ted Kord is certainly one of them. It leaves the door open for him to make a more significant appearance while still using most of his iconography. I love that he is a kind of niche and local superhero who Rudy looked up to in the past, and that the main villain is constructed around his legacy. Hoping to see both beetles in the DCU soon!
Ant-Man (2015): Not the strongest trilogy, but Scott Lang as a character is certainly a highlight in the greater MCU and his debut movie. Another super-genius scientist on the main Avengers lineup at the time would have been a huge drag beside Banner and Stark, and plus Pym and Lang's relationship got a few laughs out of me over the years.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018): It's fucking Spider-Verse, what more do you want me to say? Also, not too hot of a take, but Miles' comics have never been that great to me. This version of the character has certainly become the definitive iteration for most people, myself included. Miles' relationship with both of the Peters is a highlight, and I'd say this is the example that works best for most people since we have already gotten our fair share of cinematic Peter Parkers.
HM: Lanterns (2026): While we have yet to see John Stewart on the big screen, I think it is safe to say that the controversial creative decisions made by the DCU so far will give us much more interesting and new stories than another Hal Jordan. Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan is obviously a highlight of this show, and while I do hope to see him again in the form of a prequel, I am perfectly content with this passing of the torch. The chemistry between these two characters and their actors is unbeatable, and I will follow Aaron Pierre's John Stewart wherever he goes. Outside of the DCAU, where he's fantastic, Stewart has had very few standout stories. I love Jordan and Rayner as much as the last guy, but in my opinion, those characters have been thoroughly explored in comics over the years, and I am so ready for Green Lantern stories with new and original twists and turns in the same vein as what Superman (2025) did with Jor-El. Don't blame this show for not giving you a good Hal Jordan story on the big screen; blame Green Lantern (2011), not this thematically cohesive and unique show that is trying to tell a different and very strong story. Kyle Rayner taking the mantle after a good while would be cool, though.

Theodora - The Haunting of Hill House (book).
She lives with a “roommate” of unspecified gender, and quite openly flirts with the female protagonist.
Their relationship is the most important one in the book.
But Theo's sexuality is never specified.
However, she was openly a lesbian in earlier drafts. But it was relegated to very heavy subtext, likely to comply with 1950s censorship laws.
-
Plato - Rebel Without a Cause.
He has a pin-up photo of Alan Ladd in his locker (originally Burt Lancaster, famously a male sex symbol.).
And is absolutely head over heels in love with the protagonist, Jim.
But, while his actor called him gay in an interview, it’s never outright stated in the film itself. As the Hays Code strictly forbade any inference of “sex perversion” in American film.
That being said…a KISS between Jim and Plato was suggested! Most likely by the director himself. “Jim kisses Plato is, for a fact, what one surviving production note reads!
-
(And yes, I know that I'm basically the “Rebel Without a Cause girl”. Sorry. I'm autistic.)
(And I do just really love my 1950s gays)

Injue Joe (Looney Tunes)- in this episode how America came to be, 90% of the country belonged to this mf. He broke trees with his chest, scared off bears with his roar, sended bear traps running and crying with his bite, passed rivers like a hippo, shot tree sized arrows casually and eated bullet to form canon balls that he shooted out of his mouth.
Snowflame (DC comics): Snowflame is a villain that gains more power the more he takes cocaine. He can control white flames, have super strenght, super resistance, ability to makes others feel drugged aswell and endless stamina. He should be a PTA about drugs being bad, but the writers forgot the most important things when making a anti-drug characters, THEY FORGOT TO GIVE HIM CONSEQUENCES FOR USING HIS POWER. Mf is able to duke it out with a entire hero team at the price of nothing.

Scanlan (Vox Machina): When Sam first made his character for the campaign, he had never played DND, and just wanted the funniest option, so he asked for the "lamest" class and race. So he wound up with the perverted and crass gnome bard Scanlan. The Scan Man then proceeds to come in clutch several times across the campaign, including going against freaking Vecna.
Mr. Stake (TFS Nuzlocke): Was chosen because he's the "worst" Johto starter, and was even practically named "mistake". He then goes on to live the longest out of any mon, with one highlight being tanking a critical hit ice beam and then immediately killing his attacker.
Rag (World of Io): Rolled absolutely mediocre stats during character creation and is an absolute girlfailure. Despite that, she's one of the only members of the initial party who's still around. In a Hardcore campaign, mind you.

"Our son" (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) -- While it's revealed by this point that Kylo Ren is Han and Leia's son, the dialogue has them refer to him as "our son" until it's time for Han to call his name to him: "Ben!"
"The Order" (Assassin's Creed 3) -- The opening act of the game is not as the lead assassin, Ratonhnhaké:ton, but his father, Haytham Kenway. This section follows him working alongside Charles Lee educating him to be initiated into the order; the TEMPLAR order.
"Get your ticket" (The Long Walk) -- In the film, the walk is an endurance race where anyone who fails to maintain a minimum speed of 3 miles per hour gets their ticket and is eliminated, and the winner is the last walker remaining. What's conspicuously absent from all dialogue, despite all of the characters knowing, is what "getting your ticket" actually means -- until the first contestant to lose pace gets shot in the head.

-No good nick
Nick shows up to a families household claiming to be a distant relative and for most of episode one dynamics are established between her and the family. However at the end we discover that in reality her father is in prison and she is conning the family in order to make money in order to keep her dad from getting beat. Not even being a real member of the family.
-Invincible
The majority of episode one is focused on Mark. Showing his life before and after his powers along with showing the world itself and how super heroes exist and operate. At the end we get the reveal that Omniman, Marks father and what was previously believed to be earths greatest hero, is against the heroes and ends up killing the biggest threat, the guardians of the globe.
-Green Lantern
While episode one is mostly meant to establish the Red Lanterns as a threat to the Green Lanterns it's confirmed by both Atrocitus and the Guardians themselves though that the Red Lanterns in reality are against the Green Lanterns alone, not because of some dumb vendetta but because the Guardians were responsible for the genocide of the home worlds for most of the Red Lanterns.

Bojack Horseman - Hearing that his old friend Herb Kazzaz, whom Bojack hasn't really spoken to in over 20 years after Herb was forcibly outed as gay and then fired, is dying of cancer, Bojack seeks Herb out to try to make amends. But when he does, Herb very explicitly spells out that Bojack abandoned Herb when he needed his friend the most and then ghosted him for two decades, and that is simply unforgivable. It also doesn't help that Herb sees Bojack's apology for what it is; a selfish and shallow attempt to ease Bojack's conscience before Herb dies.
Smiling Friends - Mr Frog, going to visit his parents for the first time in what's implied to be a long while, is told by his father that his mother died of cancer three months before and that Mr Frog wasn't around to be there for her when she was dying. When Mr Frog meekly attempts to apologise for not being there, his father becomes furious, screaming that his wife's last words were begging to know where her son was and Mr Frog apologising NOW after his mother's been dead and buried for months is more insulting than anything else. Father Frog promptly disowns him on the spot.
Heartstopper - When Ben finally apologises to Charlie for all the abusive behaviour he put Charlie through, it's heavily implied that Ben is still manipulating Charlie, just trying to get validation and forgiveness so he can have one less weight on his shoulders. Charlie gives him far more compassion than he deserves, hoping that Ben genuinely does become a better person, but spelling it out that Charlie himself has no interest in giving Ben any more chances.

A setting where, from the MC's POV or canonically, everyone speaks a single language and there is an in lore reason for that. Bonus points if the setting is supposed to have people from "all around the world"
[The Lantern Corps from DC] Despite members coming from all over the galaxy, everyone speaks English from the MC's POV because the lantern rings also act as universal translators thus the MC perceives everyone as speaking English because the ring is translating in real time.
[Horizon Zero Dawn] After humanity was completely wiped out by rogue machines, the GAIA system attempted to restore humanity via cloning but Ted Faro (seriously, screw that guy) ended up sabotaging the sub-system that allowed GAIA to properly educated the new humans. As a result, GAIA only knew how to teach basic math and English because the data on the rest of humanity's knowledge was lost, including other languages.

1: the seven barreled, rocket shooting, grenade launching, magazine, belt and revolver fed creature of a gun in this strike commando poster (bonus points for the guy trying to play off his negligent discharge in the background).
2: this abomination from a daredevil comic.
3: whatever it is that Chris Redfield is holding while having a stroke in the Resident Evil 1 cover art.
4: The Zip 22, from real life. Although the gun is regarded as terrible and prone to jamming, one thing I don't see mentioned enough is that to cock/unjam the gun you use the mechanism directly above the barrel, risking shooting yourself (if the gun even works enough to shoot, that is).

Haikyuu: Yutaro Kindaichi had a grudge against Tobio Kageyama in Kitagawa Daichi Middle School due to the latter's bad manners, mocking him as "king of the court" and at one point refusing to hit his sets anymore. Years later, when Kageyama attempts to apologize, he immediately cuts off and says he'll never view him as anything but an enemy. Nobody in the series, not Kunimi, not Iwaizumi, not Oikawa, not Hinata, not even Kageyama himself, calls him immature or petty. Kageyama continues his quiet part of self-improvement, and while Kindaichi does warm up later, it's only because Kageyama himself has changed beyond hateable. Notably, Haikyuu doesn't have a villain, and Kindaichi isn't even a "jerk" character; he's a genuinely sweet and sensitive person who's allowed to hold grudges without him becoming a Shogo Haizaki.
Attack on Titan: during their attempt to stop the Rumbling, Annie Leonhart, one of Marley's Warriors, has a farewell with the Survey Corps. Annie was responsible for attacking Paradis on Marley's behalf and the deaths of several beloved soldiers, and had shown pretty much no remorse due to trauma. While Armin, Hange, Connie, and Mikasa have forgiven her and bid her a warm farewell, Jean Kirstein shows no warmth, still not forgetting Marco Bot's death. This happened after Jean had already ignored Annie once and beaten Reiner senseless in a campfire before. Jean also didn't warm up to Magath, still holding Marley's colonialism responsible for Eren's madness till the very bitter end. Jean is, in the end, still very much an anti-Rumbling hero, not a barbarian like Floch, so "grudge corrupts" doesn't apply to him narratively like it applies to the Yeagerists.
Both of these archetypes stand out from Frankenstein's monster, Dabi, or Sasuke Uchiha, whose grudge narratively hurts others. Both of them also stand out from the Todorokis, who try to see the best in Endeavor while claiming they'd never forgive (Kindaichi does forgive eventually, but Kageyama by then has changed way more than Endeavor ever did).

Superman and batman :clarkkent a'd Bruce Canonically look alike in the dc universe... Tall, dark hair, blue eyes (sometimes Grey or brown For bruce), square Jaw etc
Bruce and Clark have frequently slicked back or parted their hair differently to impersonate each other. If the media is closing in on Batman, Clark Kent will put on the cowl and use his super-speed to appear in public as Batman while Bruce Wayne stands safely in the crowd.
In the comic Superman: American Alien, a young Clark Kent accidentally crashes onto a yacht hosting Bruce Wayne’s 21st birthday party. Because Bruce hadn't been seen in public for years, everyone assumes Clark is the billionaire guest of honor. Clark spends the entire night partying as "Bruce Wayne," even surviving an assassination attempt by Deathstroke who don't see a difference
Anduin wrynn and arthas menethil (world of warcraft) :this is one is bit darker as blizzard use anduong as foil to arthas by often showing the same imagery to show anduin as version of arthas that actually stayed in the light ... They look so alike that many fans started theorizing that arthas is actually anduin's father which of course don't make sense nor fit the timeline
Mamiya and yuria (hokuto no ken) :despite not being relatable kenshiro is shook by the uncanny ressemblance mamiya have with his fiance

Characters who should know their way around guns exhibit no trigger discipline. Sometimes intentional and for comedic effect, sometimes clearly a result of the actor/director not knowing when they should keep their finger off the trigger.
Intentional Examples:
Pulp Fiction (1994) - "Oh man, I shot Marvin in the face!"
The Big Lebowski (1998) - Could be debatable, but Walter is just nuts and was just about ready to light the whole bowling alley up, so the lack of trigger finger awareness just adds to the scene.
Unintentional Examples:
Silent Trigger (1996) PS: this movie is so fucking boring
Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014)

Wreck-It Ralph: King Candy tries to escape Ralph's wrath with the very old-fashioned gag, "You wouldn't hit a guy with glasses, would you?" Sure enough, Ralph does just that: grabs the glasses off Candy's face and whacks him with them. (Edited for clarity)
Looney Tunes: In 'Duck Dodgers in the 24th 1/2 Century", Daffy attempts to zap Marvin the Martian with his ACME-branded disintegrating pistol. He pulls the trigger, and: "Huh, well whadda ya know? It... disintegrated."
K-Pop Demon Hunters: Though never explicitly addressed, the film's title can be interpreted three different ways. HUNTR/X are K-pop stars who hunt demons; their nemeses are a boy band comprised of demons, making HUNTR/X hunters of K-pop demons; and Rumi herself is a half-demon, making her a K-pop demon who hunts.
Arcane: Jinx exploits the trope for a wicked bit of black comedy. She taunts her estranged sister Vi by saying that she paid Vi's crush, Caitlyn', a visit and "made her a snack". She then brings out a cloche that could just about fit a human head on a platter beneath... and opens it to reveal nothing more than a cupcake. "Sheesh, I'm not that crazy~"

Marvel Comcis: Uncle Ben and Gwen Stacy in Universe 616.. In the main marvel universe, while we've seen many characters die and come back to life one way or another, for almost the entire spider-man run both Uncle Ben and Gwen Stacy have evaded the ordeal for the most part. We have seen other versions of them from alternate universes, Peter visit them in the afterlife or Gwen be temporarily brought back to life thanks to the Jackal but the main 616 versions have never been fully brought back.
Dragon Ball: The anime and manga are infamous for its characters never truly staying dead. Either being brought back to life by the eponymous dragon balls, magic or even a god reversing time. Some characters have died upwards of 4 or 5 times. That is except for Grandpa Gohan, who Goku accidentally killed off-screen before the first episode. He has been mentioned and even seen when a witch brought them out of the underworld for a bit but even with all the magic and gods, they have never made a true comeback.
God of War: In the universe dying isn't always a permanent thing, specially if you have magic or are a god, we've seen warriors come back via magic, gods crawl out of he underworld and others regain their forms after being slayed. In the new games a pair of Dwarf brothers called Brok and Sindri help Kratos and his son and sadly before the events of the game Brok suffered an accident that killed him and his brother decided to go to the underworld and bring him back, however he only managed to bring back 3/4 of his soul, with the missing piece being the one responsible to guide the soul once you die. When he gets killed a second time, and without that portion of his soul, his pieces scattered into nothing making him unable to be brought back or even have an afterlife.
DC universe: In the main DC universe Don Hall, the original dove died during the events of Crisis of Infinite Earths. Ever since then he has stayed dead, even after many other retcons, reboots and world shifting events that have happened ever since. To the point that even during the events of The Blackest Night where black power rings fueled by the power of death itself were flying around bringing heroes and villains back to life, the rings were unable to resurrect him. Something stopped them from reaching his body, and eventually they just said that they couldn't since he was at peace.

Felonious Gru was changed to simply Gru in despicable me 3, everyone forgot that Gru was a last name and named his twin Dru. That means that he changed his name or that his brother is Dru Gru, but that wouldn't make sense since even Dru call him Gru.
Shu, the henchmen of Pilaf, was firstly named Soba in the manga. But Toriyama forgot about his name and everyone forgot about his name and no one wanted to take the fucking manga and read to see if he had a name so they renamed the dog as Shu and the manga changed his name in later versions.
Rigby is in a weird place, his birth name is rigbone but was legally changed to rigby afrer trash boat. So, sometimes the error is that you can see documents calling him rigby before the change in brief moments. (Regular show)
In "the name", we learn that Gumball was just a nickname and his real name is Zac. Something that contradict with his full name shown in season 1 as "Gumball Trisha Watterson". After the end of the episode he changes his name to Gumball.
In a more local example, the dub for latin america of Yu-Gi-Oh had a weird time with summoned skull. Calling him "el esqueleto luchador", "la calavera del averno", " La calavera", "convoca al craneo" And finally "craneo convocado", the actual translation of the card.

On one hand, you have weaknesses like "Kryptonite" or an "Achilles' heel." Where the character is more vulnerable to this particular weakness than is normal. Superman can stand in a nuclear reactor unharmed, but a little bit of Kryptonite radiation makes him keel over.
On the other hand, you have weaknesses where a character is not more weak to something. They just don't have an inherent invulnerability to it. It's a hole in their armor, not something that makes their armor melt off their body and cook them alive.
1). Superman:
Due to his Kryptonian physiology, Superman is explicitly weak to red sunlight and kryptonite radiation. Levels that would be harmless to a comparatively fragile human are debilitating for Clark. But Clark is also weak to magic. Not because Kryptonians are particularly susceptible to it compared to other aliens in the DC universe. He just isn't anymore immune to it than everyone else. Even though he has god-like powers, in DC's mythology, he is still (metaphysically) mortal. So, if you hit Superman with a spell that turns him into a rabbit, it'll work on him just as well as Batman.
This contrasts to characters like Captain Marvel/Shazam. Who ALSO have explicit defenses against any magical attacks.
2). One Piece:
Luffy's rubber body makes him immune to blunt-force attacks. Bullets are useless and lightning passes by him harmlessly. And as someone who ate a devil fruit, he has a supernatural weakness to the ocean and "sea prism stone." Haki can also be used to negate the defense his rubber-flesh gives him. But his other major weakness is cutting and piercing attacks. Not because being rubber makes him weak to it, but because you can still cut through rubber with something sharp.
3). The Legend of Korra:
For most of history, Earthbenders were neutralized with wooden or metal prisons. Metal "purifies" Earth, leaving too little left behind to properly control. Toph Beifong perfected a technique that allowed her to identify and manipulate the trace amounts of earthen impurities left in metal. Inventing "metalbending" in the process. Once knowledge of metalbending became widespread, it became a lot harder to imprison talented earthbenders. Ghazan, a lavabender, had to be kept on a floating prison made of wood with absolutely no earthen materials whatsoever. But you can't build an industrial machine out of wood.
Enter platinum. I'm pretty sure real-world platinum is prohibitively rare, too soft for metalworking, and not actually "purer" than other metals. But in the world of Avatar, it is described as too pure for metalbenders to control. But it's not like earthbenders are allergic to it. A robot made of platinum is just as dangerous to them as normal metal is to everyone else. They just don't (also) have the ability to fling it into the air.
