Characters (Loved Trope) Sibling Survival Guilt
Dandadan: Unji Zuma's younger brother, Futa, tragically drowns during childhood. Broken by the loss, their mother takes her own life shortly after. Zuma internalizes this double tragedy, developing sibling survival guilt. He blames himself for Futa's drowning and believes he wasn't enough to keep his mother happy. Tortured by the belief that the "wrong brother" survived.
Avatar: Fire & Ash: Lo'ak suffers from intense death-causation guilt after his brother, Neteyam, is shot and killed while rescuing him from a reckless mission. This trauma is worsened by their father, Jake Sully, who blames Lo'ak for the death, cementing Lo'ak’s belief that he is a failure. Already feeling like the family outcast, Lo'ak spirals into the conviction that the "wrong brother" died and that the perfect, golden-child son should have survived instead of him.
LOTR: The Return of the King: Faramir's older brother, Boromir, is killed by orcs while protecting the Hobbits. Their father, Denethor openly states that he wishes Faramir had died instead of Boromir. This toxic rejection completely cements Faramir's inferiority complex, as Boromir was always the favoured son. Believing his life is worthless compared to Boromir, he accepts a suicidal charge against the orc army.
The First Slam Dunk: Ryota Miyagi experiences intense sibling survivor guilt after his adored older brother, Sota, perishes at sea in a fishing accident during childhood. Similar to the examples above, Ryota's trauma is aggravated by his inferiority complex, as Sota was the town's basketball star. Ryota tries to fill his brother's shoes by playing the same sport and wearing his jersey number, but he is constantly crushed by the community's comparison that he is a lesser replacement. This feeling is cemented by their grieving mother, who emotionally shuts down and cannot bear to look at Ryota because he painfully reminds her of the son she lost.

building/location. [Specific trope] This one particular door is REALLY important to the story
10 Cloverfield Lane, the door to the outside. After the protagonist, Michelle, is trapped in a bunker with Howard and Emmett and is told the air outside is poisonous after some kind of attack, the whole story revolves around should she or shouldn't she escape through the one door out, and if so, how to get out with Howard controlling the keys. Multiple pivotal scenes happen there.
Sinners, the door into the juke joint. Once night falls, most of the action and suspense in the movie revolves around the door, and the vampires' inability to come in without being invited.
"The Royale" from Star Trek: The Next Generation, the hotel door. The Enterprise encounters an anomalous area capable of supporting human life on an otherwise-uninhabitable planet, and when they beam down they discover an old-fashioned revolving door sitting in a black void. Upon entering, they find themselves trapped in a 20th century Earth hotel, and cannot exit the revolving door anywhere but back into the hotel until they solve the central mystery of the episode.

Lore (Loved Trope) Standard Fantasy Settings that Exist in a Universe with Multiple Inhabited Planets.
The Cosmere: Probably the most well known example of this, the Cosmere is a shared universe created by Brandon Sanderson, where most of his Epic Fantasy series take place. The main narrative for the setting is that there are sixteen gods known as Shards that traveled across a dwarf galaxy, the Cosmere itself, and settled on different planets and settled them with their own magic systems. This process results in these planets becoming Shardworlds, though there are other inhabited planets besides them. Some of the most important worlds in the Cosmere include Scadrial(Mistborn), Roshar(the Stormlight Archive), Sel(Elantris), Nalthsis(Warbreaker), and Taldain(White Sand). While most of the worlds in the Cosmere are what you would expect from a standard fantasy series, several planets have advanced technologically in-universe, such as Scadrial being around the same level of technology as the Wild West during Era 2. In fact, there are plans for the Cosmere to eventually become a Space Opera setting, with the books The Sunlight Man and Isles of the Emberdark already set in the era of the Cosmere’s space age.
World of Warcraft: The world of Azeroth has been the main setting of the Warcraft franchise for over 30 years. The main story is(or was) the ongoing conflicts between the Factions of the Alliance and the Horde, along with whatever third faction that showed up to threaten the world, forcing the former two to reluctantly team up to beat it. However, Azeroth is not the only world in the Great Dark Beyond. Indeed the Orcs, the founding race of the Horde, originally come from another planet known as Draenor. However, after the events of Beyond the Dark Portal, Draenor was destroyed, and what remained of the planet became Outland. Another race, the Alliance aligned Draenei, are also an alien race. While they settled on Draenor, they are originally as the Eredar, hailing from the planet Argus. Argus was found by the corrupted Titan Sargeras, who needed generals & strategists for his demonic Burning Legion, and so corrupted most of the Eredar into Demons, with the uncorrupted escaping the on a magic spaceship and renaming themselves the Draenei. The Legion would then go on to conquer, corrupt, or destroy countless worlds and species through the Burning Crusade, using Argus as a home world and base of operations. By the time the Legion was defeated in the sixth expansion, the characters speculate there’s only a few worlds besides Azeroth not destroyed by the Legion.
Spelljammer: A Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting, Spelljammer was a way to connect all the other D&D settings in a Space Opera environment. The worlds of Oerth(Greyhawk), Krynn(Dragonlance), Toril(Forgotten Realms) and thousands of other worlds (both campaign settings and Spelljamer originals) are contained in massive hollow balls large enough to each contain a whole solar system known as crystal spheres. Travel is possible to these worlds is possible thanks to spelljamers, spaceships capable of traveling through wild space.
Tower of Time/Dark Envoy: Tower of Time takes place on the dying world of Artara. Over the course of the game, we learn more Artara’s history by exploring the Tower of Time the game is named after, and try to find a way to save the planet. Early on in the game, one of first levels of the Tower have creatures no person has ever encounter before: Orcs. Like Warcraft, we learn that Orcs come from a different planet. Unlike Warcraft, however the Orcs are stuck in the tower, and thus never became a problem like they were on Azeroth. Over the course of the game, the game get more of a Star Trek feel as you encounter aliens that wouldn’t feel outside of Trek. You even meet an Alien that’s a very clear homage to Q. By the end of the game, it’s revealed that Artara is beyond saving, and thus it’s decided to evacuate the planet by placing all the survivors in the Tower of Time and transporting the structure to a new world: Jaan, which is also the setting for the distant sequal, Dark Envoy.
(NOTE: This trope is specifically for settings where Fantasy worlds exist in a universe with other inhabited worlds, NOT for sci-fi settings that have fantasy elements, like Star Wars or Warhammer 40k.)

Characters Immortality Through Body Surfing
1. Captain Ginyu(Dragonball Z) - Uses a technique to switch souls between him and another user who is usually in a better condition than Ginyu's current body. It's implied he has been using this technique for a long time now and the initial form we saw him as might not even be his original body.
2-3. Ozpin(RWBY) - Every time Ozpin's current body dies, his soul will find another body most suited to his soul. The original soul of the body will essentially merge with Ozpin's soul in a way where it practically means the other's soul is gone with no form of agency or coming back.
4. Joker(Batman Beyond) - While the OG Joker is truly dead, his methodology and craziness got placed in a microchip that can be inserted into anyone and end up hijacked by a "Cyber Joker". The microchip ends up getting destroyed but not before causing a lot of damage and traumatizing Tim Drake again.

Powers (Cool Idea Trope) Bigger Is NOT Always Better.
When a character is given certain types of powers they have a downside. This goes for the case of having size shifting. The term Bigger Is Always Better is a phrase that media throws out often….however in what can be good writing, they can prove that being big is a huge disadvantage!
Piccolo (Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero) - In the original manga and anime, Piccolo Jr had two giant forms, however his biggest is his Super Giant Form. You think being this big is a power increase right? Nope. It’s all a bluff. This form would make a return to help slow down Cell Max, however Krillin asked Piccolo if it was enough to stop him. Revealing it was a bluff technique.
Susan Murphy (Monsters Vs Aliens)- You think being a super giant person would be great huh? Yeah, even this movie shows you why this is a terrible thing. You’d be captured, and under constant watch. Freedom? Pfft! Year right?! And considering what she needs to eat isn’t enough now! The movie even shows how bad it is being locked up. She’s basically a monster to a lot of people.

Characters [Strange Trope] Characters who *were* explicitly queer…in earlier drafts.
Theodora - The Haunting of Hill House (book).
She lives with a “roommate” of unspecified gender, and quite openly flirts with the female protagonist.
Their relationship is the most important one in the book.
But Theo's sexuality is never specified.
However, she was openly a lesbian in earlier drafts. But it was relegated to very heavy subtext, likely to comply with 1950s censorship laws.
-
Plato - Rebel Without a Cause.
He has a pin-up photo of Alan Ladd in his locker (originally Burt Lancaster, famously a male sex symbol.).
And is absolutely head over heels in love with the protagonist, Jim.
But, while his actor called him gay in an interview, it’s never outright stated in the film itself. As the Hays Code strictly forbade any inference of “sex perversion” in American film.
That being said…a KISS between Jim and Plato was suggested! Most likely by the director himself. “Jim kisses Plato is, for a fact, what one surviving production note reads!
-
(And yes, I know that I'm basically the “Rebel Without a Cause girl”. Sorry. I'm autistic.)
(And I do just really love my 1950s gays)

American Dad: Stan not waking up.

Characters [Loved trope] Guys who are initially rational and task-oriented but learn to express themselves and be in touch with their feminine side
Deltarune: Ralsei starts out being very committed to the prophecy and his purpose of helping lightners, to the point that he doesn't really do anything for himself. In chapter 5, however, he starts to come out of his shell and decorates his room with things he personally likes, and wears a princess dress, asking kris if they like it.
Doghaus: Stuart is initially the rational neat-freak of the main group, but, after a night spent with a few drag queens, who challenge his internalized self-hatred, he learns to look at life through a less rigid lense, and comes out of the whole deal with a new ear piercing

Characters (Weird Trope) Never Given An Answer.
This trope can be described as we ask and never got an answer to it.
Kuromi- one of Sanrio’s beloved mascots. Unlike the others, who are given exact animal species, Kuromi’s never is actually given! Some assume of hand that she could be a rabbit too, like My Melody.
Warner Siblings- Of course, the most mysterious one of them! What are they? Seriously? It’s like a dog/cat/bunny hybrid?

miscellaneous (Meta Trope) "Wait, you're supposed to be a bad representation!" "Yeah but you accidentally made me cool as fuck"
Injue Joe (Looney Tunes)- in this episode how America came to be, 90% of the country belonged to this mf. He broke trees with his chest, scared off bears with his roar, sended bear traps running and crying with his bite, passed rivers like a hippo, shot tree sized arrows casually and eated bullet to form canon balls that he shooted out of his mouth.
Snowflame (DC comics): Snowflame is a villain that gains more power the more he takes cocaine. He can control white flames, have super strenght, super resistance, ability to makes others feel drugged aswell and endless stamina. He should be a PTA about drugs being bad, but the writers forgot the most important things when making a anti-drug characters, THEY FORGOT TO GIVE HIM CONSEQUENCES FOR USING HIS POWER. Mf is able to duke it out with a entire hero team at the price of nothing.

Characters More iconic iteration of a superhero being used as a mentor figure to give a lesser-known character more unique stories in their cinematic debut
I might be in the minority on this, but I am entirely uninterested in movies that adapt comic storylines I've already read a million times. Giving the writers more freedom to explore the core traits of these heroes by giving them a different (and often more diverse) character under the same title allows for more interesting and original films.
Blue Beetle (2023): This movie is so fucking underrated for a million reasons, and how it utilizes Ted Kord is certainly one of them. It leaves the door open for him to make a more significant appearance while still using most of his iconography. I love that he is a kind of niche and local superhero who Rudy looked up to in the past, and that the main villain is constructed around his legacy. Hoping to see both beetles in the DCU soon!
Ant-Man (2015): Not the strongest trilogy, but Scott Lang as a character is certainly a highlight in the greater MCU and his debut movie. Another super-genius scientist on the main Avengers lineup at the time would have been a huge drag beside Banner and Stark, and plus Pym and Lang's relationship got a few laughs out of me over the years.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018): It's fucking Spider-Verse, what more do you want me to say? Also, not too hot of a take, but Miles' comics have never been that great to me. This version of the character has certainly become the definitive iteration for most people, myself included. Miles' relationship with both of the Peters is a highlight, and I'd say this is the example that works best for most people since we have already gotten our fair share of cinematic Peter Parkers.
HM: Lanterns (2026): While we have yet to see John Stewart on the big screen, I think it is safe to say that the controversial creative decisions made by the DCU so far will give us much more interesting and new stories than another Hal Jordan. Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan is obviously a highlight of this show, and while I do hope to see him again in the form of a prequel, I am perfectly content with this passing of the torch. The chemistry between these two characters and their actors is unbeatable, and I will follow Aaron Pierre's John Stewart wherever he goes. Outside of the DCAU, where he's fantastic, Stewart has had very few standout stories. I love Jordan and Rayner as much as the last guy, but in my opinion, those characters have been thoroughly explored in comics over the years, and I am so ready for Green Lantern stories with new and original twists and turns in the same vein as what Superman (2025) did with Jor-El. Don't blame this show for not giving you a good Hal Jordan story on the big screen; blame Green Lantern (2011), not this thematically cohesive and unique show that is trying to tell a different and very strong story. Kyle Rayner taking the mantle after a good while would be cool, though.

miscellaneous [Loved Trope] Stories or segments focused on having one voice actor talking to themselves/playing multiple characters.
In Justice League: Action, a whole story is just Mark Hamill getting kidnapped by the Joker and the Trickster, two characters he's voiced on DC for a long time, and them discussing in the car the entire time.
In Fate/Grand Order: You've Lost Ritsuka Fujimaru, the season 2 finale is dedicated to every version of Artoria coming together in the same room to discuss what they want to do in an event, with Ayako Kawasumi, who's always voiced Artoria, voicing all of them at once, still giving them their distinct tones.
(Second one's sorta cheating buuuuuuuuuuut.......)

Characters [Adorable Trope] Characters that have a 'low detail' version
Alphonse Elric: Most of the show he is depicted as a big and intimidating suit of armor, but from time to time his kind nature morphs him into a grey blob with minimal details.
Digimon: Started as tamagochi pets, Digimons used to look like very simple pixelated creatures but even as technology advances and the look of Digimons improved, those pixelated versions never went away and are still being used.
Doomguy / Doom Slayer: In the latest Doom games we can find hidden collectables throughout the levels, these collectables includes little toys actions figures of himself and enemies.

Characters Characters who fuse with "themselves".
Piccolo and Kami (Dragon Ball): He ends fusing with Kami, Piccolo's "good" half, leading to a massive increase in power. Kami initially split with King Piccolo, and Piccolo is sort of his reincarnation whom King Piccolo produced an egg off before his death at the hands of Goku.
Yuma Tsukumo and Astral (Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal): Near the end of the series, Yuma is revealed to be Astral's other half (in terms of like soul, I guess?) which is why they're able to fuse together into their Zexal form, Astral having lost this part of him during the fight with Don Thousand.
The Nahobino: (Shin Megami Tensei V): In the past, all Demons were Nahobino. However, it's told that God had stolen the knowledge of the Demons, leading to them becoming more monstrous and instinct-driven rather than the gods or other mythological creatures they once were. When Lucifer got Eve to eat fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, this Knowledge went to humans as a whole, allowing them free will, the power of Observation, and ability to defy God's Order. The protagonist's is the Knowledge of Aogami, or the god, Susano-o, and they can fuse into Nahobino to achieve true godhood, allowing them to take the Throne of Creation and form a new world. This also applies to the alignment reps, Yuzuru Astuta (Chaos), who is the Knowledge of Tsukuyomi, and Ichiro Dazai (Law), who is of the angel Abdiel.

miscellaneous Fr*nce
Futurama
In season 1 episode "When Aliens Attack", Professor Farnsworth says she looks like a "cheap, French harlot". Amy is not offended by being called cheap or a harlot, but French.
The Fruit
Near the end of the game, the main character, Thomas finds his lover William has turned into an eldritch forest abomination after consuming the titular fruit. William points out Thomas should'nt be able to understand him, as he lost the ability to speak English long ago and the language he now uses is forbidden to mortals. The following exchange happens:
Thomas: I would learn a thousand languages for you.
William: Even French?
Thomas: Ok. Maybe not French.
