Discussion Steam Frame Purchases, Reservations & Shipping Megathread (October 2026)

Welcome to the new Steam Frame Purchases, Reservations & Shipping Megathread!

Our previous megathread accumulated thousands of comments and became increasingly difficult to navigate, so we’re starting fresh.

This thread is the dedicated place to discuss everything related to purchasing and receiving your Steam Frame, including:

  • Reservations & Waitlists: Reservation status, queue movements, regional availability and estimated delivery dates.
  • Orders & Purchases: Order confirmations, payment issues, cancellations and general purchasing questions.
  • Shipping & Deliveries: Dispatch notifications, tracking updates, customs and delivery experiences.
  • 2027 Availability: Questions, speculation and discussion about future availability, production and restocks.
  • New Owners: Share your excitement, delivery experiences and first impressions once your Frame arrives.

We’ve seen a significant increase in repetitive posts covering the same topics, particularly reservation movements, delivery updates and questions about 2027 availability. We understand everyone’s excitement (and frustration) but these posts can quickly overwhelm the sub and bury other interesting content.

Going forward, individual posts covering routine reservation updates, shipping notifications, order confirmations and general availability questions may be removed and redirected here.

For the latest Steam Frame news, reviews and community updates, visit Steam Frame Hub.

You can also chat in real time on our Discord server.

Hardware Stuck on Wait-list and friendly redditor came through!

Post image
226 Upvotes

I am still a Day 1 Waitlister and was doom scrolling the steamframe reddit with the depression sitting in that I wouldn't be playing beat saber anytime in the near future.

That was when saw a post that made my weekend, someone in LA county was selling their 1tb, ergo kit, and Arcturus camera for exactly what they paid (well almost, he came out about $1.50 ahead).

We messaged on reddit and met up yesterday and it's working great! Had so much fun yesterday setting everything up and testing a few games. Can't wait to play more and don't have to wait till summer 2027 for my chance.

Thank you again to u/Kettle_Maker on reddit! It was a great experience and he let me test it out and everything before buying it!

Good luck to everyone and I hope you are able to find yours!

Discussion Having significant issues with high speed tracking

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I am having this issue *constantly*, genuinely cannot get through a fast paced beat saber level without it happening. Happens equally with both controllers, so I doubt it's something as simple as some defective IR lights in a controller. The controllers are still in the headsets cameras views when it happens oftentimes.

It will just drop tracking, and throw my hand like 5 feet away, and then just sit there for a few seconds. It seems to still be tracking rotationally, but not translationally.

I've never had this issue with any of my other headsets before. I am in a well lit room.
PC is using CachyOS, and streaming is otherwise completely stable for me.

Accessories 3D printed a battery cover with a loop at the top!

Post image

The location of the holes on the ergo battery cover are too low for the way that my hands hold the controllers (and I don't have one anyways, but I previously 3D printed a replica of it from the Steam CAD files). So I made a model which adds a loop at the very top of the cover, and then attached the original straps that came with the steam frame to it. Now it's a lot more comfortable for me.

Discussion Don’t charge your Frame right after playing it

UPDATE: the report , all logs and analysis scripts are too long to be included.
-----------------
Long story short, I found out that the PMIC only allows battery packs being charged when battery temperature drops below 42.5. But Frame’s firmware is allowing charging when plugged in . So when you plug your Frame right after playing it, means the battery temperature can be above 50 degrees, then this is what gonna happen:
the Frame wants to be charged, pulling 1A from the charger to power the system and to charge the battery. PMIC found the battery temperature is too high to safely charge it, immediately cut the charging power, the current drops from 1A to 0A. Which means, you were expecting the battery to be saved from ~5% by the charger, but once you got the charger on, 9s after, it cuts off charging for 2s, it’s like 1A for 9s, then 0A for 2s, then repeat. But every that 2s your Frame has a chance of sudden death (by death I mean unexpected shutdown at low power and being flagged as SPML in system logs, but this doesn’t mean permanently damage or brick, it’s my bad using the word death, I’m sorry about this, but it’s still very not good for the Frame at that low battery level), the first 2s is the most deadly 2s (because it barely got charged but have to suffer a sudden voltage drop at the already super low battery level). That the reason why so many people found their Frames won’t charge when plugged it in after playing it for a while.
PS: when battery temperature is lower than 42.5, the Frame would start charging at 2.7A, so better give your Frame’s battery a good active air flow after finishing play it.
PS2: about playing with a power bank, idk, but I’ve played with a power bank when streaming and even with that damned loop, it works, but possibly because streaming only draws ~10W of power, which is still affordable for the 9s of 1A@15V charging status, but obviously the power bank and your (and mine) Frame’s battery was very HOT.
PS3 before I go to sleep:
let me be clear, the most clean way is do not play you Frame to lower than 10% battery left, therefore you can just plug it in and let the 9-2 loop starts until the battery temperature go under 42.5, and if you have ~10% of battery, I think it would be ok, because mine still died when I plugged it in at 7% battery, I plugged it in, heard the fan buzzing for several seconds, then fan went silent, not like the normal power off that would rise the rpm for 5s before shutting down but suddenly went silent, you won’t want that happen to your Frame.
And besides that, since I got so many people seeing this post, let me say another thing that really killed me for days: the mid-battery sudden death, it’s when you’re playing a standalone game then suddenly the Frame shuts down itself, just black screen and instantly power off, then you reboot it found there’s still ~half of the battery, and this happens and happens with basically nothing you can do to prevent it, reseat the gasket? done it multiple times, even brushed the connector with an eraser. and I’ve found and tested the solution: limit the CPU (X4 and A720, no A520) frequency by 15%, it worked and I’ve played games that had triggered the mid-battery sudden death several times in a row and with the implementation the game sessions were safely done from full charge to 5% battery. So in the end it’s not the connector, not the battery, not the thermal, but the X4 and A720s’ frequency-spike that triggers low VPH and BCL level 2 at half battery life which matches a lower battery voltage. The minus 15% of frequency of the implementation is just an initial conservative value, I may make another post once I finished the optimization and maybe make a little tool to help with quick multi-level frequency lock. Note that it seems only affects some people including me, if you haven’t met this problem and can always safely play a standalone game from full charge to 10% alert, congrats buddy. But if you have suffered this like me, this method is our cure.

Discussion AMVR Lens inserts impair Eyetracking IR LEDS

Post image

Nuff said.

Left is without lens insert, right is with it on.
It appears to be blocked by the side of the glass.
EDIT:
While this doesnt impair the Gaze features of eyetracking, it impairs the secondary features such as eyelid position tracking.

Hardware Maybe a unpopular opinion, but I think the small battery is totally fine

Okay, hear me out.

Batteries are heavy. More battery equals more weight on my face. I like how light the frame is compared to, for example, the quest 3 - making it more comfortable for me.

Its already easy to extend the lifetime with a battery pack. I am fine with just 1m USB cable and putting the pack in my pockets, but people already came up with several more or lass crazy mounting options, so whatever you prefer, there is a solution.

Personally I work with 2 INUI 10.000mAh packs and never ran out of power when I still wanted to play.

A bigger battery wouldn't even change much. I think even 2 to 3 times the capacity would not change needing a battery pack for heavy usage, so theres that as well.

All in all, I prefer the less weight, and the flexibility of running my own battery setup that suits me, over having more built in capacity.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Discussion This is a new low. Someone is selling their spot in the reservation queue for $1750 with an estimated availability of 2027 hoping to get it by the end of the month on a hunch lmao

This actually goes against Ebay's presale policy of needing to ship within 40 business days so feel free to report it if you find it.

Discussion Another paperweight that won’t charge. 1 TB Frame dead after 10 days. Steam Support having issues with RMA shipping label generation.

Post image
141 Upvotes

Posting for visibility. Add a tally to the board. Steam Frame will not charge. No indicator light, no splash screen, nothing. Got approved for RMA, but the icing on the cake is that now Valve’s system for generating the RMA instructions and return shipping labels is malfunctioning. I think this is it for me, guys. This battery issue has really soured my opinion of this device; a 1TB OLED Deck + cash on top is starting to look really friendly.

1 TB running on the stable channel, never entered Beta or Preview.

Question Anybody else have these glue blobs?

Post image
• Upvotes

Every now and then in certain lighting conditions I noticed in the corner of my eye what I thought was just a speck of dirt or something on the outer edge of the left lens stack.

Unfortunately it turned out to be some poor quality control on the glue between the lens pieces.

Does anybody else have anything like this on their unit? I don't want to have to RMA, but this is always going to be there and unfixable. Trying to just ignore it during play, but with something that close to your eyeball it's pretty hard to not see :(

Discussion Please note that the lenses of the Steam Frame are exceptionally fragile.

I was using it normally, in a spot that even my eyelashes couldn't reach, when suddenly a stubborn, arrow-shaped stain appeared on the bottom left corner. It seems like the lens coating has been damaged. No matter how I wipe it, it's still there, but the shape is strange and doesn't look like it was done by someone. I guess I'm just unlucky. Please be careful.

Like many users, I found the stock battery life on the Steam Frame a bit lacking. To extend play time, I put my 3D scanner to work and designed this MagSafe battery pack mount.

Software I made a GUI for the Arcturus Vision splat pipeline – pick, check and convert Frame recordings, straight into the Gaussian XR gallery

Thumbnail

Hey everyone! I've been playing with the Arcturus Vision Camera on my Frame and turning recordings into Gaussian splats with Arcturus' reconstruction pipeline. Walking through your own living room in Gaussian XR is honestly something else. Getting there, though, involves a lot of manual steps: copying recordings off the headset, running the scripts with the right flags, making the gallery preview image and name plate, copying everything into the right folder on the Frame…

So I built Splat Workshop, a small, free and open-source GUI around the Arcturus pipeline. The reconstruction itself is done entirely by Arcturus' scripts and Spirula Studio; Splat Workshop handles everything around it:

  • Pick a recording straight from the Frame (over SSH) or from your PC, with thumbnails
  • Check it first: it measures brightness, structure, fast pans and covered lenses second by second, so you know before waiting an hour whether a recording is any good
  • Run the pipeline with Fast / High / Maximum presets, with live progress, time left and a quality curve
  • Lands directly in the Gaussian XR gallery with a preview image and name plate, like the built-in example scenes
  • A tray icon shows what's running; conversions keep going in the background and can be cancelled and resumed
  • Floor plans (experimental): draw a top view of a scene, with a simple measuring tool. Recordings from one session should line up on their own into a plan of your whole home. That worked nicely for my first two rooms; I'm still testing how well it holds up for a full apartment.

It's Linux only for now, because the Arcturus pipeline is too. You need a GPU that runs Spirula Studio (I use an RTX 4070 SUPER: about 35–50 min per room on "High"). The Arcturus scripts aren't included; you download them from arcturus.vision. Setup on the Frame is quick: enable Developer Mode, set a user password under Developer, copy your SSH key over. The README walks you through it.

GitHub (free & open source, GPL-3.0): https://github.com/thunderheronight/splat-workshop

The floor plan in the screenshots is synthetic example data, not my home.

Transparency note*: I wrote this with the help of AI. The code and docs were created together with Claude (Opus 5.5 by Anthropic) in Claude Code. The idea, testing on my Frame, the decisions and the review were mine.*

Not affiliated with Valve or Arcturus, just a fan project. English and German UI. Feedback and bug reports very welcome!

Accessories My Suspender Headstrap

Thumbnail
gallery
11 Upvotes

Inspiration from https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamFrame/comments/1x0mxyj/head_top_strap_made_from_children_suspenders/

Requires ZERO sewing!

Tools

Materials

Language

"Tail" Represents the Straight of the 'Y'
"Fork" Represents the angled lines of the 'Y'

Steps

  1. Remove All metal clasps/hooks. DO NOT remove seams on Tail
  2. Make the Paper Clip Hook using the 3D Printed Jig or Pliers
  3. Put the Paper Clip Hook where the metal clasp of tail was. (Trim excess metal if you desire)
  4. Cut fork strap. Length are Inside: 9.5" Outside: 9.75"
  5. Use a lighter to heat cut edges. DO NOT light on fire if you do just blow it out.
  6. Add 1" Hook Side of Velcro to end of forks.
  7. Add 3~4" Soft Side of Velcro about Inside: 2.5" Outside: 3.25" from center.

I did not have the jig, and I just used pliers to bend it. If I can get the jig I'll redo it. I also didn't know what length to cut the velcro, so mine is a bit short.

Discussion Add another dead device to the list

Came back home after a few days and the steam frame won't charge. Tried 15, 45, 65, 100 watt chargers. Even tried the steam deck charger and it's just dead. No LED indicator light, nothing. Tried plugging into my pc with USB-a cable, tried holding the power button for an extended time. I've taken the device apart seating and reseting the connector. Nothing. Brick.

My ugreen 240 watt PD cable shows 0.0 watts, 0.0 amps and 5.3 volts. So seems completely borked

What a shame, seems to be happening to quite a few other users. Only posting to provide visibility and force Valve to address the issue. Just got in contact with support and so far the only response is the typical scripted response. Probably an RMA. Hope they fix the issue before more units are potentially impacted

Question Estimated Availability 2027 - Failure of the Reservation System?

Totally one to advocate for patience but… why even offer a “reservation” slot when the product won’t be available for approximately 5 months from release.

While I appreciate the update so I don’t continuously check the page for availability I’m confused how they managed to confuse the process this much. Similarly why bother adding people to the reservatiion list from wait list given the above

Did the SteamMachine reservation work similarly?

Question VR fitness games native on Frame?

I used to travel with my Quest with a bunch of exercise (or exercise adjacent games) including supernatural,. Les Mills and Fun Fit Land. Just anything to get the heart rate up for 20-30 mins.

Any similar options for the frame? I brought it with me this trip and Beat Saber seems to be the only choice.

Any other gems?

Discussion My experience with the Frame so far

• Upvotes

In short, it's been frustrating. I have two main issues. First, the controllers that are not supported by most of the games I've tried so far. They are not recognized as VR controllers, nor as a gamepad. They are in this weird limbo in between and I hope Valve puts some effort in creating a default Steam Frame controller profile. I'm surprised they haven't. My second issue is streaming. It's not perfect. Most of the times it works but sometimes it's spotty. I don't know why, it's random. I hope one day we live in the world where you can just put on your VR headset, start your game and enjoy the experience. So far, I'm spending more time jumping through the hoops than playing. I love the feel of the device; the potential is huge but as of now it feels unfinished and imperfect.

Question Are valve required to make the battery easily replaceable for steamdeck after 2027 due to EU Law? like Phones etc.

Asking since considering most people seem to be saying battery is main issue, wondering if maybe that means we have a chance of a hot swappable battery system in a future updated version.

Discussion I got my Frame

I haven't used a VR device since the original quest, which gave me a headache and was too heavy.

The frame feels super light, and I do not have the ergonomics kit and it feels alright on my face.

Overall I'm enjoying it. Though as an early steam deck user I can say it has a bit of the same jankiness in terms of the software that my deck did when I first got it. I'm not going to return it though, and I think playing Alyx standalone is super awesome. Looking forward to seeing how valve keeps moving forward with the frame software overtime.
