Question❓ Why is he still teaching?

Post image

Is Professor Tridib Saha the only person that can teach this course? I feel like he is abusing his power too much and for arguably one of the most important classes at Purdue we are not getting the quality we deserve. AM REFERRING TO ECE2k1 BTW

No hate to him, I appreciate his videos.

Question❓ Where to meet girls around campus?

I know I know, this is reddit. But for a little context I'm (20 M) in poly tech and most of my classes are like 80~90% dudes 😭. Also not a big fan of dating apps, they're too phony...

Question❓ Does anyone care about de-flocking Purdue?

Just curious.
Edit:
Okay ya’ll. Since this is gaining traction I thought I would spread awareness on a few things.
No. 1, it looks like the most relevant on-campus organization towards de-flocking Purdue is the YSDA. Seems to have some mixed reviews. When I have more time I want to do some more intense research on them, and I am open to organizing a club of my own if there is enough interest in it.
No. 2, for those interested there are several petitions you can sign on this matter. This is one of them. https://c.org/VzhnhxfS6D
There are many more to sign. I encourage everyone to do their own research.
No. 3, for those unaware what Flock is or don’t understand why people are seeing them as an issue, I think this article helps touch on a lot of the main points: https://journals.law.unc.edu/ncjolt/blogs/under-surveillance-constitutional-concerns-surrounding-flock-cameras/
If you don’t want to read allat, my understanding is that mass government surveillance of any kind typically doesn’t mean anything good. Additionally this service utilizes AI technology. Everyone has their own stance on AI right now. Maybe it’s not a big deal to everyone, but I tend to have a generally anti-AI stance for ethical and environmental issues. You can do your own research on this topic.
Finally, I have read some reports on Flock technology being used for ICE databases. I don’t know the legitimacy on this entirely, and I plan to research this issue on my own, but it is concerning to me to say the least.
Thank you for the engagement on this post. Let’s try to keep discussion and debate civil in the comments. I made this post simply to gauge interest in this subject, and see if there is anything I can do to make a change as a student of Purdue with an interest in this subject.

Question❓ Dr. Macharet (AAE)

1.0k Upvotes

Dr. Macharet didn't show up to teach AAE 334 or his office hours (I believe) today. No absences were announced in class or via the syllabus or email. I emailed the TAs. They have no idea why he didn't show up and are trying to reach him but cannot. Does anyone know if he is okay?

He ended class on Monday by saying "See you Wednesday".

Question❓ Prof missed grade submissions and got me kicked out of class

1.5k Upvotes

I was in ECE 368 this semester with Quinn, and he didn’t grade anything until the end of the semester. As in after finals week on the day grades closed. Prof didn’t submit my grades until last Friday.

Long story short, I had an NS on my transcript, and got kicked out of 469, which had 368 as a prerequisite.

By the time grades were posted, there were no spots left in the class.

What can I do? I emailed my advisor and waitlisted the course.

Question❓ Anyone happy with their off-campus apartments?

I've been trying to look for off-campus housing which is walkable to Purdue and not insanely expensive. Literally every single property I look at, people on this subreddit say it's management is bad and never ever sign here. I'm really confused. I've got to live somewhere bruh.

Is anyone happy with their off-campus place and I'm not talking about the ones that are like $1500-2000 a month.

Question❓ Please help.

I'm not gonna lie I thought this year would be better than my freshman year (last year) but I am just really struggling and I'm really losing my will to keep going. The classes are hard, my major is hard. I'm struggling with ADHD, DSPD (which is a sleep disorder), depression, anxiety, and trauma. I am getting professional help for those things, and I do have accommodations but it's still so hard. I got a 35% on my quiz, I can't understand anything I learn in my class, but my Dad thinks I am just not trying hard enough. I don't know whether or not I should drop out this semester and do something else, but I don't know what. I don't know if school is for me anymore. Part of the problem is that my Dad doesn't believe that ADHD is a real thing and he doesn't believe that I have it. He also is not letting me switch my major to something I'm interested in but I genuinely can't do my major. I have tried to tell him it feels so depressing to me but he just tells me "it's not" or that everyone has to do things they don't want to do. Thing is, even if I do drop out, life is still hard, Life is just hard in general, maybe I am just stupid so that's why but I don't know what to do. Please help, I am barely holding on.

Question❓ CAPS protest

is anyone up for any kind of caps protest or group action or anything. ive been to caps several times for a mental crisis and it was absolutely abhorrent. no skills, low availability, can only help students who dont even have mental issues. on top of the fact that other mental health services like psychiatric help is basically nonexistent. I even reached out to odos for other ways I could receive help for my mental agony and they basically just said caps is the only option. i just dont get how its possible for such an academically strong and huge school like this to offer NOTHING of substantial value

I dont think someone like me is able to organize or do much, but i feel like SOMETHING has to be done

Question❓ Plans for Roe v Wade

Frankly, me and my girlfriend are woefully and disgustingly tired of living in this ass backward 20th century milieu state.

That out of my system, do you guys think Chicago will be a safe haven for abortions? You guys think sketchy pills will be required, if the worst comes.

Are there clubs, rallies, or anywhere to get continued participation to pressure this affront to human dignity? All responses welcome!

Question❓ My TA liked me on hinge??

I (21F) have this graduate TA (~24/25M) that helps out with one of my classes that's around like 50 students in total, and I just opened my hinge to find out he liked my profile 🧍‍♀️

At first, I wondered if he even recognized me, but this class isn't incredibly big and I sit in front (aka, I know for a fact he can see me). AND the kicker that I almost somehow forgot in writing this is that he actually was my TA last semester for an 8 person lab where he had to see me like every week and we talked one on one several times. I keep telling myself he has a lot of students and just didn't recognize me, but I feel like it'd be super difficult for him not to.

I just feel kinda awkward bc while he's a nice guy, is it not strange for a TA to pursue one of his students? Like now I'm not sure if it's more awkward if I ignore his like on my profile and never speak of it with him, or if (god forbid) I matched with him and then have to see him in class??? Idk now I just feel lowkey weird and don't know what to do 😭

Edit: ok some additional context lol. He did send a message with his like complimenting a specific part of my profile on hinge, which makes me think it wasn't just the "serial liking" some ppl are referring to (tho ofc I don't know fs lol). I'm still thinking about what exactly to do, but I'm def not gonna match with him. He's not my type in the first place, and the only reason I included the possibility of matching with him was bc I wasn't sure if that'd be less awkward than ignoring him (obvi it wouldn't—temporary lapse in judgement on my part, forgive me LOL).

I'm leaning on the side of just ignoring it as of now, even tho I understand everyone telling me to report it. I havent seen him in a while bc of break, so I kinda just wanna see how things are once we get back. However, I did record/ss the message on hinge so I have the proper evidence if I choose to report it if I suspect he's acting strangely/my grades are affected. At most, I'm just worried about it being awkward to ask him questions/sit in front of him during lectures now. I might just start sitting in back or smth tho idk. Regardless, thank you to everyone who's given me advice thus far!!!!!! <3

Question❓ Caught smoking weed on campus

I was caught smoking weed on campus and got a citation. I got my court date and mail to go to my Purdue address in hopes of my parents not finding out. What is the most likely outcome for me as a Purdue student and is there anyway I can handle this without my parents finding out. I leave May 8th to go home and my court date is the 28th of May. Please help me

UPDATE: I’ve got a lawyer my parents know and everything looks like it will be handled on the legal side. Now what can I expect from the school side as consequence?
