Can someone explain to me why Greta Thunberg got so much hate for her environmentalism as a kid?

4.3k Upvotes

I was also a kid so I might be wrong but I always felt like Greta always got hate and was always on the news getting hate but from as far as I know she does carry the ideals of a person who puts into practice the ‘correct’ and ethically ‘right’ beliefs.

Why has Greta gotten so much hate?

Edit: as a comment said there are different things that people deem as ‘correct’ and ‘right’ that’s why I out it into quotations as to me they seem that way but that is my subjective opinion.

Unique ways to see if brother is alive?

1.4k Upvotes

Hi all,

My brother has been missing for 10 days. We have filed missing persons report but looking for more immediate answers. He is in state of New York.

Things I’ve tried:
- Filed a SCRA because there was a thought he might have enlisted. (I have his SSN). Came back as no record of active duty status.
- he has mint mobile, i was able to access his account but they don’t offer call logs. I did get a notification that he hasn’t used data in 2 days
- i tried to get a credit report on him but got locked out
- he doesn’t have a last active status on what’s app or facebook message
- i checked NYS criminal courts and there’s no arrest warrants

Besides those, we’ve tried all the other typical ways like contacting family and the sober house he is supposed to be residing in. So…. What other unique ideas do you have for me?

Thanks in advance!

How do I figure out if someone is gay without making it awkward?

I’m a guy, and I really like this boy in one of my classes. He’s kind of a nerd, but in a cute way, if you know what I mean. I don’t really know him personally yet, and we haven’t talked much, but I am very much smitten.

The problem is that I have absolutely NO IDEA whether he’s gay, straight, bi, or anything else. I obviously don’t want to assume anything, and I definitely don’t want to make him uncomfortable or pressure him into sharing something personal.

I’d like to get to know him, but I’m nervous about making the first move when I don’t even know if he could be interested in guys or worth pursuing to begin with.

If you're sued, does some random person actually approach you, give you papers, and announce "you've been served"?

Surely this only happens on TV shows, right? It seems too weird for real life.

Did Stephen Hawking get famous, because he was top of his field or did he get famous, because of his condition and being just very very good at physics?

Like was he insane at what he did, or was everything just boosted, because of how unlikely he would seem being a genius from a superficial pov

Edit: i know it’s hard to rank him, but if you had to, would he be in the top 10? 100? Or 10’000?

What is it with old people and Cracker Barrel?

For the longest time I thought it was just a meme, but seriously old people fucking LOVE cracker barrel. Does the company aggressively target them for marketing?

I'd think that old people would want to go to a resturaunt they went to when they were younger, but Cracker Barrel was founded in 1969 but didn't really get huge until the late 80s at the absolute earliest.

So why? Why is it always Cracker Barrel????

How do I make Jehovah's Witnesses leave us alone?

I've heard that they have some sort of policy of leaving you be if you ask, but despite me and my husband both asking them (kindly) to leave and telling them we're not interested and follow a different religion, they always come back in a matter of days. I've even seen the same ones multiple times, so it's not just that they don't get the word around.

Is there any way to make them stop knocking on our house? My husband and I are pagan and have no interest in their messages, and it's reaching a point of absurdity. They showed up three times just this past week.

US new regulations on beef and fear of prion disease. What do I need to avoid?

I’m sure my anxiety is making me crazy but this is scaring the hell out of me, ever since i heard about the new ease of regulations on red meat in the US I’ve avoided any and all red meat. Only eating chicken and some fish when it comes to meat. Should I avoid those too? I tried to look this up but I didn’t find anything. I’m sure there’s details I’m missing about the new regulations as well but any and all information would be helpful.

Can anyone just walk into a court room and watch cases even if you have nothing to do with them?

Is it actually allowed? I'm really curious because if it was allowed, I genuinely wanna experience going to a courtroom and watching the cases unfold. If it was legal, would you also wanna sit in random court cases to listen?

Why does Meghan Markle get only hate, negativity and vitriol but not anyone else within the royal family?

The comments on all the Facebook pages about her are so vile and almost all are negative. There's also many YouTube videos dedicated to only bashing her. Meghan Kelly and Piers Morgan are also relentless in criticizing her but It's like what did she even do that was so bad. Nobody else seems to rile people up from the royal family, not even Andrew. I get she left the family but I think she has a right to talk about what she went through.

Is it actually true that the number of bot accounts on all social-media has gone down significantly due to Ukraine's strikes on Yandex's data centers?

I'm not someone who delves very deeply into the comment sections of political posts, and I do not use Twitter (X), Instagram or Facebook.

How significant are the drop of bot-accounts? Can anyone show definite proof of this?

How long will it be before the Russian bot farms are back online?

Are we talking days, weeks or months?

I know that the data canters that sustained a lot of bot farms were taken out and that there has been a drop in Russian bot traffic. How quickly will they be back?

Edit: Based on some replies, they already back lol.

How did the all three Baltic countries become developed so fast in just few years after becoming free from the USSR? What did they do so great?

"Duh, they're in Europe. They're just destined to be rich."

I mean, most Balkan countries are still developing nations. All three Baltic states have already BEEN considered developed many years ago.

What did they do great?

Why can a drug be restricted before we have much human research on it?

I’ve been following what’s happening with 7-OH and this part genuinely confuses me.

For anyone unfamiliar with it, 7-OH (7-hydroxymitragynine) is an active alkaloid found naturally in kratom in small amounts. There are also products containing much higher concentrations of 7-OH. It acts on opioid receptors and people report using these products for things like pain or managing opioid withdrawal, although there are also concerns around dependence and withdrawal.

There are still a lot of unanswered questions about 7-OH especially when it comes to human research and long term effects. At the same time, states and federal regulators have already been considering restrictions on concentrated 7-OH products.

I understand why regulators wouldn’t necessarily wait years if they think there’s a public health risk. But how do they decide there’s enough evidence to act when the research itself is still developing?

And if better research later shows legitimate benefits or changes our understanding of the risks, is there actually a normal process for reconsidering those restrictions?

Do top college athletes actually study at all, or does their sport just become their full-time job?

Always wondered about this. Especially sports like basketball and football that are so demanding with traveling. I can't imagine many of these kids are actually doing any academic work, and are moreso treated as a hot commodity to help make the college money

ER workers, what’s the most ridiculous Halloween injury you’ve ever treated?

My cousin works night shifts in an ER, and she says Halloween is the one night she dreads every year. Apparently, last year someone came in with a fake vampire fang glued so hard to their real tooth that they couldn’t get it off.

Now I need to know. What’s the wildest costume or candy-related injury you’ve seen, and is it really as chaotic as people say?

My wife suddenly has an intense craving for onions

My wife has always had an intense hatred for raw onions her entire life, yet one day recently she woke up craving them. She is not pregnant, we have already checked. Is she deficient in something? What the hell could this mean?

Are garage springs that hazardous if you follow procedures or was I woefully ignorant to what I was doing.

I get there's a lot of force stored in the spring but every DIY/Garage related thing I look up on reddit people always say they leave it to professionals. I looked up a YouTube video on how to do it and I replaced my spring without any incidents.

I made sure to keep my body away the path of the rods and when I uncoiled the spring I made sure the spring was firm against the door before putting in the next rod. I made sure that rod was all the way in the spring and I had a firm grip on it before removing the previous rod and letting the spring turn. It took me almost 10 mins going slow and methodical but I got it done. What exactly could you mess up that causes injuries and fear people have over torsion springs?

Is it really true that people turn a blind eye when they see someone stealing baby formula?

I've seen people say that if you see someone stealing baby formula, you should just look the other way and not get involved.

How true is this actually? Do people really let it slide because they feel bad for the baby, or is this just something people say online?

What would you do if you saw someone stealing baby formula from a store?
