Holy hotness 🥵 She is an all around badass broad and my favorite on the show. IDGAF if you hated her stand up special; the dense/breasts joke was stellar and smart.

Truly so sorry to be adding yet another post about the Shane Gillis episode to the pile, but I hadn’t seen this mentioned so here goes.
Much has been said about that “whores” joke from the cold open. If it existed in a vacuum in that episode, maybe I could look past it as just an unfunny attempt by a mediocre comedian whose mind is stuck in the 80s. But there was an entire skit shortly thereafter that was deeply unsettling: the sneakers skit.
The essential joke of the skit is clever enough — haha, why are sneakers called sneakers, what a weird name. But the way they chose to tell it is by Shane Gillis marveling that sneakers are good for “sneaking” because, he says in rapturous awe, “She’ll never hear you!”
He says this line continuously throughout the skit as a sort of punchline. The first time I heard it, my blood ran cold. I heard it as something a predator would say: i.e., she’ll never hear you coming, wink wink. Then, after the first couple times he says the line, he explains that the context is that his wife would never hear him sneaking home late at night which is what happened in the past and led to his wife killing his mistress. Slight relief that it’s not a rape or murder joke (although it still feels like a dog whistle for creeps who are into that sort of thing). Perhaps a calculated attempt to say Look we’re not the boogeyman, it’s not what you thought! Except… the joke is still about, yup, you guessed it, violence against women. The lazy misogynist’s favorite form of comedy. The wife killed the girlfriend! A broad died! Ha ha! Brilliant writing, gentlemen!
Guess SNL is still living in the stone age. Shame on SNL for having him (x3) and shame on anyone trying to defend him or obscure the obvious. In this current climate of the Cornell 7 and sexual predators in the white house, do we really need to be tolerating jokes about violence against women as “comedy”? Yawn. Vom. Next.

I never click bc I don't want to mess up my algorithm but it's so annoying that these even pop up in the first place. Is this happening to anyone else here?

Anyone else think that it's basically the unspoken rule of the cultural pendulum/overton window for SNL to purposefully break in new ground i.e. exposure therapy. Cultural change doesn't shift on a dime, usually, it takes slow incremental easy does it moments until it's normalized behavior.
It doesn't seem completely unreasonable for Lorne to be like "Shane, you're going to say Fuck on TV, you're the guy that can get away with it because you're currently the dirtbag of the moment that is allowed to be a little brazen and break the rules, and then once the rules are broken other people can do it too."
Sure maybe that's delusional thinking, but I have to think that people who run industries have to be mega smart. And that means they have to be thinking in layers and layers and layers. It's all bread and Circuses. I'm not saying Sports are rigged performances (though it is totally possible to orchestrate an entire football game the exact same way you can get a bunch of people to orchestrate Les Mis. Coordinating crowds into physical performance has been going on for millenium).... So it doesn't seem like a stretch to think that cultural titans and institutions like SNL are major players making big moves and big planned out decisions in their mega brains like they're all part of game of thrones... cause.. why wouldn't it be that way? It takes a lot of skill and refinement and competition and learning and winning to become at the top of the game and those people get to make the choices that dictate how things move. The Musks/Bezos of the world etc.
It sounds like tin hat thinking. But, honestly. Look at all the dipshits that watch Wrestling. And you know that like, half of them legitimately think it's really real, or delusionally believe it to some degree, even though it's entirely scripted.
Bread and circuses.
Anyway, have a nice day. I had a good day. Think Shane is hilarious. Is the appropriate trump adjacent philadelphia/bully (but not evil) archetype that is culturally appropriate for the window now.

When Kenan says "You drive this smokeshow around in a Kia Sportage?" I think it would have been funny for Matt to say "Actually, she drives me most of the time."
Thoughts everybody?

Evidently, they are in a better place helping Jon Lovitz feel a little less alone.

I’ve been offline for the past day, but just got a chance to watch Saturdays episode with Shane Gillis. Monologue was okay - but he always elevates the sketches. What did you guys think??!

I had no idea who she was. I saw that she had in ear monitors in and thought, okay I am going to get a genuine performance. My jaw hit the floor! Best musical guest since, I can't remember when.

I'm very, very aware this probably won't go over well here. But please just for a moment, try to be logical and not angry and analyze the double-standard of these being the most watched sketches in Season 50 and the discussion happening this Monday.
They are both pieces of comedy poking fun at wild and unrealistic (and sometimes very realistic) scenarios.

As a Libra who’s birthday is tomorrow super cool to have a cast member who’s birthday is this close to mine and the shows anniversary for the first time ever. I hope she has her breakout episode like Grace did Saturday, more life to black women employed by snl.
