Discussion After Dakota Johnson and Shane Gillis, what will the 3 Billion posts about Inde Navarette gonna be about?
maybe it'll be people complaining about her not being famous enough, like with dakota johnson

u/tyler-86 12h ago
I don't know, but many of them will spell her name incorrectly.

u/Fastbird33 12h ago
People spell Kenan’s name wrong and he’s been around for 20 years!

john belushi said on a podcast that you can tell if the cast hates the host if their feet form an acute angle during the goodbyes.
29
u/OswaldCoffeepot 12h ago
Given the responses to this joke right now, that's just entirely too complex a conspiracy theory for people to wrap their heads around.
253
u/inturnaround 12h ago
Really cool of John to not let being dead since 1982 stop him from doing podcasts.
26
u/burgonies 11h ago
You're thinking of Lovitz

u/OswaldCoffeepot 12h ago
Dear lord, if people in an SNL sub don't recognize that John Belushi is dead and need the joke explained....

Unless she gets some real stage fright, I genuinely think she could be an excellent host, especially for Halloween.

u/zabrakwith 12h ago
Sometimes lesser known hosts end up being the best shows. Like last season I had no idea who Coleman Domingo was. I thought the show was great.
42
u/jesterincase 11h ago
The way he reacted after he realized his mistake in The Knowledge House remains one of the smoothest recoveries I've ever seen.
2
11
u/Galactic-stew 11h ago
I haven't watched every episode of the last few seasons, but not knowing who Coleman was before hosting I thought he gave it his all and put on an entertaining episode. Just committing to the bit is half the battle and I think he committed to them all. My favorite hosting performance in a while.

Jerrod Carmichael's monologue was half about how he's the least-famous host ever and it's an all-time monologue imo

u/Cerblu 12h ago
Which one of the SNL cast members will come out and join Inde during her monologue and make the “frowny face”?
23
5
u/illegal_deagle 4h ago
It seems like she wants to distance herself from it, wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not done at all.
•
u/your_mind_aches 43m ago
I doubt she's gonna distance herself. They're gonna do awards campaigning, so referencing it on SNL makes sense. She just doesn't want to be typecast (and she already landed Rogue and probably has stuff lined up before that so it'll give her a path out of it after awards season).
42
u/NobodyLikedThat1 12h ago
I think more people were disappointed in Dakota's wooden performances than her lack of fame.

We'll still be on Shane Gillis.
34
u/chmcgrath1988 12h ago edited 12h ago
Honestly, from a discussion standpoint, it was smart for Lorne to schedule Shane right before an off week to get everyone riled up about the show.
It's an election year in the States though so if we're still debating Shane Gillis in three weeks (with said election 2-3 days away), America is truly doomed!

Half this sub has the most bizarre hate boner for Shane. The monologue was a bit weak for sure, rest of the episode was excellent
You'd think he killed a puppy during the show if you see some people's reactions though

People have been brainwashed to extremes by social media. They associate him with Rogan and that's that. He must be evil. He must be bad. Every time he hosts, the virtues must be signaled. 😕
40
u/filledor 11h ago
To be fair, he went out of his way to associate himself with Rogan during his monologue.
8
u/strangelyliteral 9h ago
He associated himself with Rogan? And no one forced him to give that monologue.

18
u/lexalander 10h ago
They associate him with Rogan
hahahahahahahahahahahahah
What are they gonna do next?!? Associate him with the other guy he specifically mentioned in his monologue?!?!
1
u/Kennadian Say that to my whip 10h ago
You dont even seem to comprehend my point. Like not even 1%.
The way you guys think that everyone must shit on Rogan or else they must agree with him 100% makes no sense. You guys would cut off your own nose to spite your own face.
4
u/lexalander 10h ago
Stavros is friends with them but he calls out their bullshit so people that don't like Rogan & co are cool with him.
You don't get it.
5
u/NotsoNewtoGermany 5h ago
I think they comprehended your point. They're just mocking you and the point. And rightly so. It was hilarious.

Cheeks monologue aside, I thought he was pretty funny in the sketch portion of the competition. The sketches were good anyway.

I went to workout at the gym last week, and I thought I’d film myself in my sluttiest outfit. I posted it on TikTok, but the funniest thing: I caught Shane Gillis in the background squinting at my ass!

u/Impossible_Break698 9h ago
Ya'll are upset about the "fat bitch sisters" line too?

Not upset personally, but I did find it unfunny and cringy.

u/iwatchtrazhaldayy 9h ago
More upset that they won’t get an attractive male host and instead let this chubby short guy to host. He has little dick energy and women want something nice to look at. If I can tell a guy gets winded and sweaty from a single sit up I can’t pay attention to anything he spouts. Ugly men can’t be funny.
0
u/Impossible_Break698 8h ago
Wow, thank you for turning the toxic masculinity around so my dumb male brain could see what was wrong with Shane Gillis's disgusting rhetoric! Thank you!

JHC reddit is hot garbage these days but it's practically an 18th century Paris salon compared to the cesspools that Facebook, Instagram and Ex Twitter have devolved into. Everywhere is either people trying to sell you something or social lepers picking fights over minutiae because they have nothing better to do

Some people get paid for their opinions. Everybody else gives them for free on platforms owned and operated by multi-billion dollar publicly traded companies. That's exactly how much most opinions are worth these days

Gonna be so much horny posting. Which I’ll take over the Gillis and Johnson posting tbh

Don't worry. She will give the monologue and then Grace Reiter will take over the show. Weekend Update will interrupt Grace Reiter and she will be back on to run late and we won't see the goodnights.

At the very least she’s a great actress so her performances in the sketches should be good

u/fettytat 11h ago
i think so. but i’m sure plenty wouldn’t agree! she actually has a personality, i don’t think anyone can disagree there lol
2
u/holadilito 4h ago
She won’t be funny for people who can’t take a joke. So in other words, she won’t be funny for 90% of this sub.
4
u/Letterkenny-Wayne 6h ago
Eh. A lot of people call her a “pick me”, but I don’t really think that’s accurate, she’s just one of those people who’s kinda always making themselves, intentionally or not, the center of attention. Which…idk we’ll see how it goes but I generally wouldn’t attribute that personality type to a good host.
1
u/sarahbagel 4h ago
Tbh I feel like that personality type is pretty neutral to whether or not they make a good host - like I definitely think it hurts if a cast member has that energy (and doesn’t have the chops to back it up), but the host is pretty much always a leading role in every sketch they’re in by default, so being a bit of a spotlight-seeker doesn’t hurt as long as you are otherwise cooperative and a good performer. I think where it really hurts is if someone is not just an attention-seeker, but they are too self-centered in general to work well with the cast/crew.
For Inde, people have spoken highly of working with her (not that that clears a super high bar), and she seems to have outgoing enough of a personality where I have some optimism. But honestly I feel like people either gel or don’t gel w SNL, and it’s hard to guess sometimes

Someone'll probably bring up her supporting Johnny Depp during his divorce with Amber Heard when that whole maelstrom was going on. Idk if enough people still care enough about that too talk about it excessively. It's just the most controversial thing about her so far.

Inde Navarette
I hope they do a CW Superman & Lois reference somewhere.
Her TV dad suddenly started embracing heretofore unexplored Hispanic roots by inexplicably referring to her character as "Mija" halfway through season two.
I suspect that was when a writer from CW Riverdale who had Mr. Lodge constantly refer to his daughter Veronica as "Mija" joined the S&L writing staff.

Honestly feels like this could be the best of the season cus the other hosts are actively trying to be hated; and Jalen was such a big zero. We’ll see!!

I hope they don’t waste her. She could be a great asset in turning the season around after the mediocre first weeks.

Maybe a Toy Story mockumentary including Jeremy Culhane's Randy Newman impression including JAJ as Bob Dylan trying to sing You've Got a Friend in Me, but he forgets the words. That idea is based on a true story when Steve Jobs wanted Bob Dylan to do music for the movie.

Anyone have a contact to Lorne? I wonder if we can get an overhead shot during goodbyes so we can measure how far back the cast is from the host

u/EddyVonSputnik 3h ago
lol this preemptive show weakness/obvious pander pick defensiveness gets left up all day, but discussing great contemporary comedians on the potential rise ahead of the curve gets removed within 5 minutes.

Let’s actually see how she does first. Part of the reason the takes were so hot with Dakota and Shane was because they’ve both hosted twice. At this point, people either like them as hosts or don’t; the episode itself largely just reaffirmed that bias.
Inde has a clean slate; if she does well and the writing is there, folks will love her. Even if the writing isn’t there, if she stands out, she’ll get an overall favorable view like Connor Storrie last year.

The irony in attacking other people’s literacy when you can’t even write in complete sentences.
“She’s not even that pretty.” Sounds like your own opinion that you’re stating.
“They’re going to complain that she’s not even that pretty.” Wow! You got your thoughts across in a non-ambiguous way, look at that

A pass in regards to what? People love her acting and personality, she's coming in with a huge advantage that has nothing to do with race

2
u/thecricketnerd 12h ago
Gillis is a polarizing figure regardless, this isn't really a worthy comparison
1
u/Relevant_Paint153 12h ago
Exactly. So even if she was as bad as Gillis was the subreddit isn’t going to implode like it has this week. So the original question asked is irrelevant.
2
u/thecricketnerd 12h ago
Indeed, and it has nothing to do with racial ambiguity
2

I think it’s okay to admit that a white man is inherently more unlikable than other gender and race combinations.
