spotatui started as a continuation of spotify-tui, the terminal Spotify client that stopped being maintained. It now also has a desktop app.

The main difference from other third-party Spotify apps: it doesn't use Spotify's Web API or a developer app at all. Most third-party players go through the Web API, often with a shared app, so all their users share one quota and run into rate limits. spotatui talks to Spotify through librespot instead, so there's no shared quota and you sign in once by confirming a code in your browser.

What it does:

- Plays Spotify itself as a Connect device, so the official app doesn't need to run. You can move playback to your phone or other devices too.

- Home, album and artist pages, your library, synced lyrics, a queue panel and a device picker.

- A Stats page with your top artists, albums and tracks, and this week's top five.

- A full terminal version on the same core, with the pitch visualizer from spotify-tui.

About the look: the desktop app is deliberately close to the official client for now. That way I can easily see which features are still missing and work toward full parity. After that, full customization is coming. The terminal version already has themes.

Honest notes:

- Spotify Premium is required.

- It's not an official Spotify app. It uses librespot, the open-source library that spotifyd and ncspot have used for years.

- The desktop app is a preview, and the installers aren't signed yet, so Windows and macOS can show a warning.

I've been using lossless on my laptop no problem for a while now, all of a sudden some songs are crashing the app. The issue is fixed when switching to very high quality but lossless wasn't an issue before so I'm confused. I've tried troubleshooting and nothing seems to fix it. Is this happening to anyone else?

I've been using Spotify for a long time and was always satisfied with the service. It was a neat application and the algorithms and suggestions were even very good, I've discovered tons of artists and branched out a lot more. Naturally, there are lots of curated playlists that I cobbled together in my 9 years with the app.

Since months, the application has been acting up quite a bit with long delays, a distinct lack of responsiveness and overall just being very laggy. It doesn't help that the android app is bloated as hell with all these unnecessary features that nobody asked for. As a user, you're constantly victim of some bullshit shoved in your face. It's become so difficult to navigate and everything is clogged up with random stuff.

As a whole, I feel not in control anymore and it's becoming so cumbersome. The algorithm feels also out of hand and the sub price kept increasing.

Despite trying out commonly suggested fixes, my app still keeps being awful to control. Not even taking into consideration the controversies of Spotify into account, I just think that I want to switch to a better service that actually is making me feel like a user that enjoys listening to music.

There are some aspects though that are important to me.

• Being able to export/import existing Spotify playlists as I have amassed a huge library of artists that I saved left and right.
• A service that is mostly just focused on music with a rich library that should ideally also have some sort of algorithim to suggest new artists in a same genre.
• Customization for playlists and organizing the stuff you listen to

Any thoughts on this?

I was listening today. Suddenly (in desktop) Spotify shut down automatically. I tried restarting, the app is working fine but the moment i tap play the application closes itself. I wasn't able to figure out what was happening. I did a clean reinstalled it was working and then i turned on lossless (i was automatically set to automatic streaming) and then it again started crashing

This is not fair. I'm paying extra for lossless streaming and i cannot use it

The app loads fine, but when i click play on a few songs it just closes. I find nothing in event viewer etc. Also tried clearing cashe and disabling hardware acceleration but nothing..

I’m trying to add more songs to my liked and just to my playlists in general.

However, the app literally refuses to do so.

The songs appear in the playlist for a split second, and then disappear.

The issue only started happening last night.

I’ve tried reinstalling the app, offloading the app, signing in and out, iPhone restart, and the support AI isn’t helping me at all.

So the only place I can ask is here.

I swear I saw the president on my home page before I saw Vance pop up on my search feed.

only some songs, this just started today and it stops doing it when audio is set back to very high, some songs work on lossless.

tried reinstalling even with revo still doesnt fix it, does it without hardware accel disabled as well

Im on Windows 10 and Spotify stopped working

My Upcoming Releases section used to have a For You section with 10 upcoming projects from artists I would listen to. Previously when an album released, a new upcoming project would take over, however over the past few months, that 10 projects kept slowly dwindling down without replacement until all the upcoming projects were released, and now my For You section in Upcoming Releases is fully gone

did anyone else have this issue? Is it fixable as I really liked having a place to see upcoming albums from the artists I mainly listened to

My Spotify DJ wont go forward with my requests. Ill request anything either through text or the microphone and the DJ will continue to play what it was originally. Is anyone else having this issue? How can I fix it?

Why doesn't Spotify have virtual DJ rooms that people can join?

They could let us create our own avatar, allowing us to enter rooms just for the vibes, with no chat.

We could even customize the avatar and make it dance to the beat, with different dance sets or places.

Is this a known bug? It just wouldn't stop resorting songs in the playlist. I don't know how i exactly did this but i wouldn't go away. I tried restarting spotify and also my phone but it didn't help. The only thing that helped was deleting spotify and redownloading😮‍💨 hope this never happens again...

It is a bit annoying that my listening is randomly interrupted, but it will probably go back to normal after some time. I have tried playing the songs directly and queuing them up but it still crashes. It is a little funny i think

I’m trying to add songs to several playlists but when i press on them, it immediately removes it from them. This happens to every song i try to add. I have no downloads and reinstalled the app and still the same issue. Anyone else experiencing?

so today when I was listening to my Spotify playlist, I was confused to why it was repeating the same 10 songs considering the fact that I had more than 200 songs in my playlist , I see my playlist and kid you not I have ONLY 22 songs in it. I don't know how that happened. I don't know why ?? is there a reason for this to happen ? like I have not deleted a single song , I have not used any third-party app. I haven't done anything. and this isn't even a new playlist. I've had it for more than five years?? I just found it today with only 22 songs in it ?? thankfully I had the same playlist in YouTube music so I transferred all the songs back, but I'm still confused as to why it happened.?

in my opinion there’s no point in adding a speed changer to songs without pitch change. keeping the pitch makes the songs sound horrible and it’s only the song, not global. they need to change this.

It looks horrible. The UI now has elements of Liquid Glass scattered all over it and at the same time, it’s nowhere to be seen in some important places, like the tab bar at the bottom where it will be seen and interacted with the most.

I know some people didn’t like the classic UI but at least it was cohesive. Now the UI is a poor and disjointed mess. They just did the laziest job and called it a day, wow.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, but I am at a loss. Spotify will randomly pause my music every 5-10 seconds and I don’t know what’s causing it.

It happens when I’m just playing music on my phone speakers, when using wired earbuds, and when using carplay. It’s not constant, but enough to drive me insane. It happens at least once a day, back to back, until I give up and just turn spotify off.

I have cleared my cache, redownloaded the app, made sure my connection is good, I have used the “sign out everywhere” option and changed my password in case someone else was on my account. It happens when listening to both downloaded and not downloaded songs. I have tried just about everything google has suggested and it keeps happening.

There’s no weird popups, no other device will auto connect to it. It just pauses.

Background app Refresh is on, no other apps will be open, I don’t use low power mode so that can’t affect it. No other device is signed into my account aside from my phone. My discord (nor any other app or media) are connected to it. I don’t know what else to try.
