🤣 nice. Love this haha

Important information here. Please read this.

If temperatures outside are below freezing please don't go walking outside. I'm not judging anyone. If temperatures are low enough, you are at risk of hypothermia. Alcohol makes you feel like you're warming up. You won't realize how close you are to freezing. Most people who freeze to death had alcohol in their system. I'm autistic and I know a Mortician. I am not a mortician. I just ask weird questions. Please be safe, friends. Biology is scary.

Sure....but can I ask what triggered this PSA? It's October. I checked a global weather map and it's below freezing basically nowhere.

You can die of hypothermia even if temps are not actually below freezing. It's just above freezing here and especially if it rains or you've been partying and sweating a bit falling asleep outside somewhere people wouldn't immediately find you can be a death sentence.

which makes all the more sense bc I’ve DEFINITELY slept in the some odd (and secluded) places while drunk

But it’s gonna be soon enough. Better to know not to freeze to death before it happens rather than during or after, I suppose

Having been drunk and walking around in -30°C, I must say that it depends if you wear your normal winter gear or not. If you thomk you're warm and go for a walk in your sweater and it's -30°C, you're gonna have a bad time. But that same walk in your usual winter gear that you were perfectly warm in earlier that day? Fine!

Like be careful, but a buzzed walk in softly falling snow is a beautiful time and can be done safely 😂

I do love snow

u/Dry_Sir3710 1d ago

God i must have almost frozen to death so many times

2

u/Fluffnugget-13 1d ago

That's scary 😨 glad you're here.

u/Empty-Tower-2654 21h ago

Very cool info, altho, we dont have snow in brazil

u/Long-Cantaloupe1761 1d ago

Facts. My first time getting drunk i drank an ungodly amount of hard alcohol. It was the middle of winter and i was bundled up. My friend and i decided to stumble to another friend's house like 2 miles in the snow. I peeled off my winter coat, both hoodies, and rolled up the sleeves of my long-sleeve shirt on the way and felt so hot.

Why did you mention you’re autistic, what in the world does that have to do with anything

4

u/Fluffnugget-13 1d ago

You're right. That is a bit off topic lol I could have left that bit out. Thanks for the perspective.

u/Far-Department302 21h ago

“I am not a mortician. I just ask weird questions” is excellent biography info. 😂

1

u/Initial-Assistance76 1d ago

I get why you mentioned it. It is a part of who you are and it certainly avoided the whole, 'why do you ask mortician questions?' That is where you mentioned it, youre inquisitive. And you probably offer too much info and ask too many questions for the neurotypical. It probably keeps you from having to deal with their issues saying it upfront. Its not your whole personality, as someone suggested. It saves you time dealing with neurotypicals. Sometimes you just have to placate them 😉

2

u/Impossible_Storm_427 1d ago

Lol. A NT def downvoted this. But you’re right. Sometimes it’s about placating.

2

u/fedsmoker3000 1d ago

No one really thinks about it that much - a neurotypical

1

u/Fluffnugget-13 7h ago

I appreciate that. I lock in a bit and in person, people sometimes look at me like I have 3 heads. I just like to get that bit out of the way.

2

u/I_CRE8 1d ago

I’ve found quite a few autistic people I know will tell anyone any chance they get. Comes up a lot in conversation—to the point where it sometimes feels like they’re trying to make it their entire personality.

3

u/fedsmoker3000 1d ago

Ive noticed that too..

1

u/Impossible_Storm_427 1d ago

Maybe I can educate the 3 of you. It’s about heading off the judgy questions that come because we are always communicating in the wrong fashion based on all the unwritten rules there are for “regular” people to communicate. Don’t mention being autistic and it’s like well who the hell is this person saying this or that. Say you’re autistic and it’s like why tell me you’re autistic. Autistic people will share all kinds of info unasked for because they have information and want/need to share it. People think that’s annoying.

It’s never the “right” communication ever for you people.

Also, making a generalization about a population of people is really narrow-minded and ignorant.

Celebrate people’s differences. Don’t be so judgmental about what you don’t understand.

2

u/DigBickPom 17h ago

What do you mean by “you people”

1

u/Impossible_Storm_427 9h ago

Huh. What do YOU mean you people? Is that the tone I’m hearing? Little Tropic Thunder up in here?

0

u/Epipeppi 14h ago

Likely referring to neurotypical individuals

1

u/fedsmoker3000 7h ago

I’m being genuine when i say i see all these different people stating that they have autism sometimes multiple times a day, both online and in person. Its pretty hard not to think its become some weird trend or badge of honor(?) and there have been several occasions where the person admits to self diagnosing which doesn’t help either.

1

u/DrStxrk 13h ago

preach. the "making it their entire personality" comment was so insane and frankly rude. we're talking about a visible difference in brain chemistry and neurodevelopment, cut people some slack.

1

u/Fluffnugget-13 7h ago

That's not what I was trying to do. I just wanted to get the bit about me being really into weird facts out of the way. I know this may not help everyone. I just want people to know in case. Lately, a lot of people self diagnose and I think they spend most of their time trying to convince themselves that it's backed by a licensed processional. So, I genuinely understand your take. Edit:typo

There’s many regions in the world, where the temperature stays below 0 for months and people do go outside and are okay. You suggest they shouldn’t go out at all? Be inside for months?
Of course, people should be smart and wear warm clothes when they’re in a cold environment. Alcohol widens the blood vessels, so the body loses temperature down quicker. Also a drunk person might have troubles with motor control or judgement, so it’s important to not let smb fall asleep sitting in the snow. Alcohol consumption increases the risk of all sorts of such fatal accidents. :(
No autism, I thought this is common sense knowledge.

u/withextracheesepls 1d ago

there's a big difference between going outside briefly vs. passing out in the snow; i know you did briefly mention that, but still. the person you're responding to probably did not mean walking from the car to the store or something similar when they said "don't go walking outside".

1

u/Mmarzipan- 1d ago

I also didn’t just mean walking from the store to the car, I’m too broke to have a car. In my country winters get below -20 C (so 20 degrees below freezing), and even then people really enjoy walking outside, snow makes everything beautiful. As a kid I walked to school 20min or so, also in winter (we got off school when it was colder than -20C tho). There’s ofc buses etc too. Also skiing, sledging etc need snow, so temperatures below freezing.
Many areas of the world have prolonged periods of temperatures below 0, life doesn’t stop then. Wind, humidity etc have a big effedt too. But historically and also a bit now, many people also work outside with this weather. You just gotta have warm clothes. C:

1

u/withextracheesepls 1d ago

it must be location dependent i guess, like the culture. i live somewhere that can get as low as almost -30c (usually more around -20 to -8) lol and i never see people purposely spending time outside haha

2

u/wishywashyyaddayadda 1d ago

The comment is about going outside after drinking when it's freezing outside. Both the alcohols physical effects on the body that make you lose heat faster and other effects such as being less steady on your feet and feeling warm when drinking so you might not put on appropriate clothes etc will make you a much more likely victim of a cold death. If you live somewhere cold and you are not drunk one would have to assume you know how to behave appropriately, but there's still always some dumbdumbs at the start of winter when we're unprepared for the freezing nightly temps 🤷🏻‍♀️ 🇧🇻

2

u/vixiechick1996 1d ago

The people who live in those regions of the world have also likely built up more of a cold tolerance than the other regions where it’s not as cold 😊

How the fuck Is there always someone on Reddit trying to get some moral high ground or teach a lesson, is it like a nervous spasm that if you don’t get this information out you feel like you’ll implode? I just don’t get it

2

u/spiderat22 1d ago

Maybe it's like a poop? It'll come out one way or another, I suppose.

3

u/hawtcheetochronicles 1d ago

you drunk or sth?

3

u/Fluffnugget-13 1d ago

Definitely not drunk. I have a six month old baby. Haven't had a full night's sleep in weeks lol I'm just sharing information to help people. If even one person remembers this and their life is saved, it's worth it.

5

u/hawtcheetochronicles 1d ago

i get it, but it was so freaking random

5

u/Striking-Comb6673 1d ago

Caring for a new baby is another level of delirium

3

u/Miserable_Fennel_492 1d ago

I appreciate the random factoid and I also appreciate the non sequitur

1

u/hardick529 1d ago

I should've been dead at 16 then lol

1

u/Disastrous-Mood4443 20h ago

Weird PSA tbh

1

u/whoopsiedaizies 18h ago

This is an absolutely wild take.

Misinformation. While it is true in some cases, you are misrepresenting the facts and making it so extreme. Also, who asked you for this?? 😂

1

u/Fluffnugget-13 1d ago

Also, you contradicted yourself in your comment. And nobody asked for your input either.

0

u/Fluffnugget-13 1d ago

The fact is people do die because of this. A few every year. It is a small number, true. Just sharing the information. If it is not relevant to you, that's OK. Have a good day.

1

u/NollieBackside 1d ago

How many accounts do you havee

1

u/Fluffnugget-13 16h ago

I know of three cases in Minnesota.

While you’re correct about alcohol increasing your chances for hypothermia, it’s kind a silly safety tip. A few drinks won’t cause this or walking a few blocks. This is typically going to affect severely drunk (black out drunk) people who already have impaired judgment and will/are doing a lot of things that can kill them. Essentially this like a telling a drunk driver to wear their seatbelt.
