Usually he’ll just grab the food then dart back into his hidey hole but today he decided to stick around on my arm and do some tounge flickers. I had to stay perfectly still and close my eyes so he wouldn’t be scared.

I recently got a southern alligator lizard and wanted to know how I can tell their gender? (Don’t worry, temporary set up will be changing tank tomorrow.)

I just picked up this GORGEOUS Albino girl from someone in my area yesterday. Her name is Buttercup, and I’m in love! She’s super sweet, a little nervous but that’s understandable! I’m so excited to learn her personality. She’s around 7 years old. Estimated birthday is August 2019. I had tons of hides and clutter leftover from my other ball python so I revamped her enclosure and made sure she had plenty of places to hide and explore! Not being able to handle her is gonna be tough, but she deserves time to settle in and explore her new pad, so I’ll suffer in silence lol. Anyways, meet Buttercup!

Hi everyone!
So I was thinking about getting a new little baby,
i use to own fish but they recently passed and whilst caring for them i realized i am not a fish girly
I did my best with them and did everything right, i promise i didn NOT neglect my babies
but i realized, fish just aren't for me, i love being able to interact with my babies, which you can't really do with fish lol
so onto my big question
i have the 5 ish gallon tank(I have another old one downstairs i can use if this is absolutely too small)
i wanted to know if anyone had any recommendations of reptiles that are smaller and preferably handleable
i am no stranger to reptiles
my family has owned 3 beardies(and a gecko I believe but I was young and don't rember the breed)
a tortoise(yes ik its different but i felt its relavent)
i loved my reptiles, they were fun and sweet and one was probably a ninja in a past life( no like seriously we could not let that beardie near a couch he would jump off of it like it was a parkour challenge 😂)
and i do current own a russian tortoise
and other pets but they arent relavent rn
i know how to feel/handle reptiles and love them
always wanted a snake but thats not an option for a little while lol
TLDR:
girly YEARNS for another reptile
small
not over complicated needs(not gonna neglect them ofc but i am a college student living and home and do work so i know my limits)
preferably diurnal(i wanna be able to hang out with my baby(and sleep LOL)) but understand that may not be an option
and handleable(still unsure if thats a word)
please I'll take any recommendations!!!!! and advice! as I've said I grew up with reptiles but I'm a firm believer that you are always still learning. I want to be the best owner I can be and that means learning from everybody

So I have a free abot 3x3x2.3m(\\\~9.8x9.8x7.2 feet) room and I've been thinking about turning the whole thing into a tree monitor enclosure but I've read a lot of things saying you can cohab a male and female and a lot saying thay won't get along if keept together permanently so I was wondering if anyone here has keept them successfully of if anyone knows if it won't work? Thanks!

I am so glad I saw this Mayan black headed skink before he drowned. I took him out and put it on a safe place in my garden. I hide him between rocks and plants so he could have shade and refuge from predators. He was exhausted. He still there but seems more relaxed. 😊

Interested to hear from keepers about husbandry, I'm in the early stages of working out if I have the capacity for these guys.
Also considering the Adelaide snake eye skink.
What do you think?

My kid has been asking for a snake. I have some experience with reptiles but I'm not entirely sure what species would be best for a kid his age. I had a corn snake and bearded dragon growing up.
He is also very squeamish so I'm leaning more towards a lizard potentially.
I will be doing the majority of care. Expenses are not an issue, vet will be available to us.
What kinds of snakes/lizards would be good for a kid just starting out his reptile journey?

Hi everyone! I rescued this uromastyx lizard from my mom over the weekend and know little about what his diet should fully consist of. Right now I have him set up with a lettuce kale carrot mixture and lentils. He looks very underweight and has been lethargic, any advice and assistance would be awesome to get Tumeric back to health !! (He’s roughly 5-6 years old now). I’m also working on getting him a larger container (120 gal bc he’s currently in I think a 65-100 gal and I’m keeping an eye on the humidity and tempt of his enclosure)

Think its a pretty decent job for a first time bio active enclosure, so far i havent had much trouble with it
Would defenitelly be open for some tips or pieces of advice if possible though!

I lost my female red ear slider I had since 5th grade on August 25 for this very reason. An offhand comment by my mom to place my red ear slider into a pond my brother built. An oversight was the fact the pond was muddy so I can’t see and there was a hole in the fence. After being released across the street by a visiting stranger (he’s Indian but got mistaken for Chinese by someone else, sent me on a wild goose chase for 2 days) who made a mistake (and never apologized or tried to help, in fact he doesn’t even live here) it has not been seen since. I don’t live near any bodies of water. When I knocked door to door asking about a missing turtle someone actually said “so is it a toy turtle?” “No it’s a live animal.” A similar case occurred in June 23 in Toronto when a red ear slider owned by Crystal Lam was released into Ashbridges Bay Yacht Club in Lake Ontario by a stranger who, as in my case, made a mistake due to incompetence. This got in the news. Here is the post by the owner.
Most outdoor habitats are inappropriate to house turtles, especially year round if the climate is not stable. Most people cannot distinguish between native and exotic turtle species, in fact most people can’t differentiate between terrestrial and aquatic species. Just about everyone who didn't go out of their way to learn are incompetent in differentiating or identifying animals to begin with. If your turtle goes missing chances are unless you live near a natural body of water with obvious basking spots you are not recovering it. The safest way is to never bring them outside to begin with and if you are adamant in an outdoor habitat build a high wall with a cage covering. If it is in a back yard make sure it is enclosed with zero holes in the fence or gaps. Should your turtle get lost do not rely on eyewitness accounts since most people have no sense of native or exotic, size, or colour. All of my leads from September 5th to October 3rd had been misidentifications.

Mine is changing the brightness of the light in my room so it doesn't startle her. I get a lot of questions as to why I'm chilling in the dark

I heard a lot of things like it might get lost or have trouble finding the water dish
