Put two together for my new panther

Ive had chameleons in the past, usually just a vieled or Jackson. Bought a baby panther at the reptile show. Put two cages together and it works great. All the mist and fog run down into the glass section. Still need to add a few more branches, will eventually buy an extra large screen cage when he's a bit bigger but this is good for now. I need names!

How much should I feed a juvenile female veiled chameleon each day?

Post image
6 Upvotes

This is Ozzie. I don’t know her exact age, but given her size I’d guess around 3-4 months old.

I was wondering how much I should feed her in a day, in terms of crickets and/or small dubia roaches.

I tried looking it up but keep getting varying answers, and I know feeding chameleons the correct amount can be difficult since they cannot feel full and will keep eating. Add onto that the difficulty of that she is a juvenile and therefore must eat a good bit a day in order to grow correctly.

Does anyone know how many crickets and/or small dubia roaches I should feed her each day?

Conflicting information on handling panther chameleons

I went to two local reputable pet shops in my area that have panthers. One shop went into great length on how, with proper ‘training’, they can be handled quite frequently. They other shop said the exact opposite and that handling should be avoided as much as possible , as it is too stress inducing.

After doing my own research, I feel that I am in still not getting a clear picture on what is appropriate, and best for the animals. We were hoping they would tolerate and even enjoy frequent handling, but of course want to do the right thing and not stress these beautiful creatures . Thanks in advance for your input!

Question Does my chameleon and cage look good?

First time taking care of a chameleon. I’ve taken care of reptiles before but I know chameleons can be much more difficult.

She’s a female veiled chameleon, and I wasn’t able to get an exact age, but based on how big she is, I’d wager around 3-4 months old.

She seems to be doing well, as her colors have seemed good and regular, and she’s been eating, drinking, and sleeping regularly.

I’d just like to make sure that nothings wrong with her or her cage.

Right now, her cage is 18 x 18 x 36. I’ll most likely get a bigger one when she gets bigger, but again, she seems happy with it right now.

I also made sure that all the plants inside are non toxic.

I also feed her crickets and (small) dubia cockroaches, have a flowing water source in the cage, two 50 w bulbs and 1 UVB light about 6 inches away from the very top of the cage and around 10 inches away from her usual basking spot, and I have a mister that I use at night.

Let me know if there’s anymore info that can help.

Any advice is helpful. Again, she seems happy and healthy right now, but I’d like to make sure I’m doing everything right.

(Also, her cage is not a glass cage, only the door is clear plastic. The other sides are mesh)

(Also also, in case you were curious, her name is Ozzie)

New chameleon won’t drink

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hey guys I just got this Chameleon as a rehome from FB marketplace. He’s about a year old and seems to be in decent health but I believe he is dehydrated. Based on his eyes being slightly sunken in. I haven had any luck getting him to drink. I have a dropper I set up to drip off a leaf and he hasn’t drank from that I also tried dripping water from my spray bottle right infront of him and still nothing. I don’t think the previous owners had a fogger for night for him im sure that’s part of the issue. I’m going to get one tonight but any other suggestions are appreciated. I’m gonna try and feed some horn worms since they are hydrating.
Sorry for the bad picture it’s the only one I have.
(He is in a 18x18x36 rn that’s what he came in but he will be getting an upgrade shortly)
Edit- the previous owner said he really enjoys eating the pothos could that be due to dehydration?

Recommendations for a reliable flowing water source for a (growing) female veiled chameleon?

I have a female veiled chameleon that is around 3-4 months old and I recently just got done upgrading her cage.

I believe everything about the cage is good except that I’m a bit concerned about her current water source.

One, it seems to either keep jamming or is leaking as it’ll stop flowing every 2-3 days. I know it’s not just her drinking all of it as she would be drinking several times her body weight.

Two, it’s fairly small and has to be at the bottom of the cage. This isn’t a big issue right now as she’s small enough to drink from it and I have seen her drinking from on a regular basis (which btw, she’s in no way dehydrated right now and is very healthy, so don’t worry) but once she gets bigger there is no way it’ll be big enough, and I’m sure she doesn’t want to have to climb down to the bottom every time she wants to drink.

Does anyone have recommendations for a reliable flowing water source? I’d prefer something pre built, but if I have to DIY it that’s fine.

(Also I didn’t include a picture as I couldn’t think of anything that’d really help, but if yall need to see a pic of her cage or something let me know)

Friendly veiled chameleon?

My brothers chameleon ( asac Schrader) seems to want out and to be handled, I’ve owned a few other reptiles myself but never a Cham, Google says this is very uncharacteristic of veileds, could this be an issue with his environment? Is he really just a unicorn among chameleons? Just wanting to understand a bit more as asac Schrader will be coming with me when he goes to college.

The palm was… a little bigger… than I thought.

Rescued this grumpy guy 2 weeks ago. His name is Frodo! Finally got him more plants for more coverage and… the palm I got was a bit bigger than I thought LOL.

Any other suggestions for improvements in his set up? He’s my first.
It’s a 2x2x4, UVB/heat/plant light all set up, and a water fountain (that I’m not exactly sure if he’s using but at least it’s available), mister and fogger (for night) set up, and the climbing space.

Jungle condo

In February when I brought this guy home I had no clue what I was doing aside from a professional background in Horticulture. I tricked out an ikea cabinet I was using as a greenhouse into his enclosure. There's a few micro climates happening here as well as a bio substrate which was the real game changer. I'm really proud of the learning I did to dial in his husbandry and his current health which seems optimal (not that i really have a baseline for comparison as this is my first reptile). I've been monitoring the bottom for a bit and now will move to the next phase which is planting ground covers. And I'm eventually going to add black trellis on the sides to attach more branches and plants.

What I did...

->Took all the glass shelves and used marine silicone to attach them in the bottom to create a water tight basin.

-> Cut a rectangle out of the top and replaced with screen, I eventually put an aquarium lid on the top for more stability.

-> Added Arcadia luminize T5 + heat lap and fan to the top. (Next will be to work a jungle dawn in but I have grow lights all over)

-> Attached a cool piece of wallpaper to the outside back with magnets.

-> Using an AI powered outlet that controls all devices. Lights run 12 hours on, 12 hours off. Fan comes on and goes on with lights. Fogger runs from 12 am to 6am.

-> Bio base planted with premium aroid mix and then topped with coir and leaf litter. Added isopods and springtails.

Now I know what you're going to say... glass is bad.. the cabinet itself isn't air tight, the fan on the top circulates the air, the top climate stays around 35-40% humidity during the day and jumps to 90+ at night with the fog. I've had this setup running for several months now and monitor temp and humidity multiple times a day.

I also let him out once a week for a bit to explore my plants.

It's been a fun adventure and I had no idea how much he was going to enrich my life!

Question Need help with my brother's chameleon

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, this is ChameLeon Kennedy, the veiled chameleon. My brother bought him on a whim at an expo and I think it was bad idea. Kennedy, for a lack of better words, is a complete asshole. The only reason I'm holding him in these pictures is because my mom is upgrading his tank. He hisses, he bites, he puffs up, he shoots his tongue at your face. He's just deathly afraid of people and I feel so bad for him. He also has some shed stuck to his crest I believe and I don't know how to help. Can someone with more experience please give some advice? I want to help him, even if he stays spicy.

We feed him every other day, with dusted crickets and dubia roaches. He has a heat lamp and a regular light, I believe. I'm not sure. He's about a year old and we're hoping to upgrade him to a 4x2x2 mesh enclosure in the near future. Humidity isn't great right now.

HATCHLING

Hey yall, i’m buying a hatchling from PetSmart (hate big corporations I know) I already have a six month old male veiled chameleon. I recently upgraded him to a larger size so I still have the standard size empty. I was planning to just decorate it up and light it the same way I lit my other. Anything that I need to know about that differs from a six month old?

Sick Chameleon Advice

My chameleon, Mango, is very sick. We took him to the vet bc we thought he may have a respiratory infection. They said that they couldn’t tell if he did, but they gave us antibiotics and told us to get “Critical Care” powder. We have been giving him the antibiotics & critical care for 4 days now. But he just seems to be getting weaker.

We changed his UVB bulb the day before we took him to the vet, to see if that would help, but it hasn’t. They didnt say he had MBD since his limbs look fine. But his grip is getting weaker everyday. His eyes are extremely sunken in bc he is dehydrated. And his colors are looking super pale. He hasn’t ate in exactly one week & wont drink water on his own. We were giving him water with a syringe, but have stopped since he is already taking in alot of liquid from antibiotics and mixing the critical care powder with water. We are now afraid of giving him too much liquid.

THIS IS NOT HIS NORMAL CAGE. Just the cage we brought him to the vet in. His cage is the standard 4ftx2ftx2ft. With lots of plants & branches. His humidity levels & temps are same as always. We have had him for just about 2 years now & he has never had any issues before. We also have a female who receives the same care & she is perfectly fine. We just don’t know what else to do to help him 😢

Puffy throat after becoming receptive

Thumbnail
gallery
31 Upvotes

My seven-month-old female veiled recently started displaying her receptive colors. Shortly after, I noticed her throat started to get more and more puffy, which appears to be edema.

I've read that gravid females often develop this due to hormonal shifts, but I don't think my girl is gravid just yet based on her colors.

She currently eats a mixture of Crickets and Dubias, dusted in Repti Calcium (NO D3) on every feeding. Those feeders are gut-loaded with carrots, sweet potatoes, and collard greens. I also use Flukers cricket feed when I have to go out of town for two days or more.

Twice a month, I dust her feeders with Repashy Calcium Plus LowD.

She has a mister that mists for 30 seconds in the morning and evening. She also has a dripper that she can drink from if she ever needs it.

Her urates are totally white, and her poops look normal too. I'm at a loss as to what might be going on here.

Is this "take to a vet" territory, or could this just be because she is receptive?
