This was a new one 🤷🏻‍♀️ I offered it to him when he seemed interested in it while I was wearing it. I'm glad I took it off 💀

Can you cohab tree monitors with enough space?

So I have a free abot 3x3x2.3m(\~9.8x9.8x7.2 feet) room and I've been thinking about turning the whole thing into a tree monitor enclosure but I've read a lot of things saying you can cohab a male and female and a lot saying thay won't get along if keept together permanently so I was wondering if anyone here has keept them successfully of if anyone knows if it won't work? Thanks!

Lights for savannah monitor?

Guys as I am preparing enclosure for adult savannah monitor lizard, I want to ask if somebody have measures/producs tested for optimal heating spot. I was given some advice from last keeper but it was just combined UVB/heat bulb that I dont have trust in. What I would like to know is what two seperate bulbs I should hang and in what height from heat platform. If somebody has tested specific products it would be perfect. Thank you.

I know basics like there should be around 120F on platform so something around 140F slightly higher. What I really need to help is to choose proper UVB tube. I am looking for T5 arcadia arcadia pro UVB kit tube but I am not sure which one to choose. I prefer stronger one so I could hang it higher.

Ackie monitor substrate advice

Hello All,

I’m having difficulty creating a bio active substrate for my ackie monitor. Currently I have a 3:2 part topsoil and sand mix. No isopods are surviving and my aloe is rotting away. It also seems this mix gets very hydrophobic. Also I’m not confident it’s providing the proper humidity in certain areas.

What have you guys found that works the best?

Brisbane perentie wildlife show?

My son loves monitor lizards and wants a wildlife show for his birthday featuring a perentie. I contacted Geckoes Wildlife who have a perentie but they are booked out that month. Does anyone here do wildlife shows with a perentie or know a business that does?

For Brisbane, QLD. I will also ask r/brisbane

New kimberley rock monitor, getting them used to me (and vice versa)

Post image
14 Upvotes

I got a new baby kimberley rock monitor. They are in a 60 breeder to grow out, I know they need something much larger eventually. I saw and read a few places that I should add a T shirt to the tank so they get used to my smell, and since doing it it's the only place the little bugger likes to be. I assume this is ok but just checking.

In the picture below you can see me unravel the shirt a bit to confirm they are in there. Otherwise I've just been reading or hanging out near the tank with my hand just laying inside. Not trying to rush anything but want to make sure I'm not doing anything really wrong.

They don't like/get scared of tons with bugs. I've let some bugs loose in there so they can eat when they feel safe. Basking at the top is 140, there is a 14% uvb above a screen top out of scene.

Open to any/all critiques and tips.

Does anyone have an untamed big monitor?

So I adopted a bluetail monitor few month back, and she(he) is very spicy, like unusually spicy for a blue tail. She'll puff up the minute she notices I'm looking at her, and it took me about 5 month for me to feed her face to face(before she'll eat when she's sure I'm not watching). Yesterday I tried bonding with her by showing her my hand and gloves and when I touched her tail she immediately bit my glove 2 times before running away. (I know I was too invasive by touching her, I couldn't help it 😩 last time I touched her was like a month ago) I'm trying and will keep trying to tame her, but I sometimes wonder what'll happen if I'm not able to. She's already a juvenile or sub-adult and someday I think about what to do if I fail to tame her until adulthood.

Does anyone have an untamed big lizard? How does vet visits go?(my 1st worry) how do u treat them if they're ill? Are some guys just not possible to tame?
