Texas Spiny Lizard

A neighbor called and said she needed help getting a lizard out of her apartment. I figured it would be a green anole or baby gecko. I got there and she said it was under a box and very large. We slid cardboard under it and brought it outside. I was shocked to see a probably 10” tail to snoot Texas Spiny Lizard. At least I think that’s what it is. I’ve never seen one with such beautiful color on the back. Also maybe the chillest lizard I’ve ever captured to release outside.

Of course, I made sure to let it go. I’m positive that it’s a female, since the throat wasn’t as dark as an adult male’s throat and matches the color of the belly. In addition to that, this one was kinda chonky.

Hello,Herpetological community! In future I want to become a herpetologist! I’m quite young,so I’d love to get some advice from established herpetologists!!

I’m living in Central Asia, which is not really rich in herps biodiversity , but anyways sometimes I go hiking and spot some birds, but never herps(and that’s logical, because it’s mountains, not a tropical forest). In future I want to live in Florida and build a herpetologist career there. I have a book “Herpetology”(4th edition) written by Vitt&Caldwell but sometimes I just slip and watch YouTube😭. Also, I have a leopard gecko Delta, who is 4 m.o. and I love him so much!! I’m sorry for my English, it’s not my native language, and I’m trying to learn it very much.

Both of them were lighter in person than they show up in pics. I’ve seen 4 or 5 around my house in the last week, spread out over about a 50yd area. They’ve all been young so I’m wondering if maybe they actually from one clutch of eggs or if it’s actually somewhat common?

hi! i don’t know anything about herpetology but I love animals so apologies if I say anything incorrect…I work in a store and went to turn on our air filter and saw this little buddy run around when the air turned on. I immediately turned it off but now I don’t know if I should try to take the top off (which will be difficult because it doesn’t have any obvious way to take it off) and let him/her out or I should just leave them be. i’m in southern California where we have had really super duper hot weather so I don’t know if he/she got in and is just wanting to chill and maybe be in torpor like other animals do? I know they love sun but I don’t want to disturb him/her or stress him/her. please advise!

Incredibly dense. The last photos shows 30 or so individuals that were hauled up in a single fish trap.

Tips for a newbie?

Hello! I'm going to be hiking a bit in the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest and wanted to know if anyone has useful tips for how to search for critters. I've looked online at the general ecology of the land, and saw lots of amphibians and reptiles which I'd really love to see, particularly the western tiger salamander and Arizona tree frogs!

I also want to make sure I'm not going to disturb these animals too much. I know not to handle creatures (especially amphibians), and that moving around rocks and other things isn't the best as it disrupts the shelters they make for themselves. I suppose any advice on what I should be looking out for would be a good start. Or maybe things like time and weather considerations? There's a likely chance it will storm a bit when I'm there, so would I do best to get out during or after the rain?

Really, any tips would be helpful! Thanks for stopping on this post.
