« Because they are companion animals, they can also be a powerful model with immediate relevance to human health. Living with us means that we share experiences and environments, while our love for our pets means we provide them food, exercise and lifelong health care – meaning we can translate many findings in our shorter-lived pets to humans. »

There was coffee in 3-4 different places including in the main session room itself where you could get it while listening.

No it’s because it smells like vomit because it has a same protein or something in it (read it a while ago)

I was at the ARDD talks and it felt like every third slide was "we cured aging in mice again" but the biomarker panels actually had some decent back and forth. The coffee line was long enough that I missed half of one session though

Why bother though? I haven't heard of any reasons to focus on tryptophan for ageing

Improvements in Humphrey Visual Fields measurements, a standard eye exam that measures a participant’s ability to detect light across many points in their field of vision, scored in decibels (dB), were observed in 2 of 3 OAG participants at Day 56

In each of these 2 participants, ≥ 28% of points in the visual fields showed a > 4 dB improvement

Maybe u/stoicoptom or someone else with expertise could comment, but why visual field testing instead of OCT? If they're actually causing some de novo neurogeneis, shouldn't that be measurable with an OCT even before there's any improvement in VFs?

LOL The smelly fart thing is usually temporary and also dose dependent.

Ah, yes, the stuff that adds the pungent smell to farts, butyric acid. Also found in Hersey's chocolate which is likely one reason why europeans hate the stuff.

5-7 years shorter lifespan if you’re tall? That sounds like a lot to me. Are you sure?

And just curious, how come the smallest animals have the shortest lifespan then?

Nice, looks like things are going well so far. I hope this really works for those who struggle w vision. Can’t wait to hear how it’s effecting human cells.

It’s well documented why. Bigger heart and more cells which increases cancer risks. Statistically it’s only a 5 to 7 year decrease in living years tho. Beyond that I gotta be like 7,2. If you are 7 ft without an underlying condition and just a natural giant, there’s a bigger chance you will see your 70’s than not

Same reason tall people live shorter lives than shorter people (provided the latter are shorter due to genetics and not nutrition).

Neat. This is the sort of use case I very highly support AI for. A virtual cell could let us search for candidate drugs and do initial studies thousands of times faster.

Now you’re being an asshole while still not explaining anything. There are only 12 comments on this thread and most of them are asking you to explain yourself which you never did and still refuse to do for some dumb reason.

Other people have responded to me but hey, I know threaded conversations aren't for everyone, so please see my snarky edit to my parent comment.

No. You didn’t. You have posted exactly two comments on this thread. One to make a vague statement about “nutraceuticals” and then the second to say you already explained WTF you’re talking about.

If there’s anyone reading this and is currently fighting insomnia, the Wikipedia page about prions and prione diseases is a 10/10 insomnia Wikipedia rabbithole. Just leaving that here.
