question Mum of anxious teen

• Upvotes

Looking for advice please. England

I have a 13 year old daughter who is very anxious at the dentist. She has very misaligned teeth and has 2 baby teeth which haven't fallen out on their own. Today we have been in for extraction, she let the dentist do numbing injections but then started to panic and refused the extraction.

I thought she was going to have a panic attack and we ended up leaving before extraction could be done.

They said she can't be referred to orthodontist until the baby teeth are gone.

Any advice on next steps

Thankyou

question is it bad i still havent gotten my tooth capped

• Upvotes

i had a root canal done so the bad root stuff is all gone, its a process from what i know and then theres multiple temporary fillings and then eventually you get a mold for your tooth done or something so it can be capped over the filling or something like that idek, anyway last appointment i had for that i cant remember what they were doing but they drilled into my tooth and then put another temporary filling in, its just one tooth but last appointment was like several months ago 😭 like maybe june.. is that really bad? tbh last time i went i got lock jaw and ended up crying infront of the dentist so now im kind of scared and its such a long fucking process but im scared that my tooth is becoming sensitive again idk is it really bad i havent gone back in awhile? also what does temporary filling even mean?

im 16 btw

experience/story Pulpitis issue?

• Upvotes

I did a small to medium sized filling, it was to replace an old filling that had become loose/cracked. I had no issues prior at all. after new filling I have sharp pain everytime I am eating something hard, the pain goes away quickly though, I have also no issues with hot/cold. the filling was also not too high, so dentist suggested a bonding issue so we replaced the filling after 2 months, there had been no escalation of pain in that period. However, still, the same issue has persisted! my imagination feels like the pain is maybe a little less but who knows. overall i don’t feel happy with my dentist, i have never had this issue before, i have had lots of filling even deep ones which have never given me any issues at all - so i am quite frustrated why a small straight forward filling has caused me this problem? and again, NO issues prior even with a cracked/weak filling? Makes no sense. i feel as if i had gone to a different dentist this would not have happened. its now been 4 months since the second filling and no change either way. i am now considering doing a thirdfilling with a different dentist, but i am afraid if that will make this a permanent problem. but i dont understand what the issue is when it wasnt deep and FAR away from the nerve even?! is there anything else I can do? Thank you so much.

My boss insisted on RCT but I did a filling anyway. Patient had sensitivity to cold for one second only. Should I have done the RCT?

question Abscess is not going away

Hello, my seven year old girl developed this abscess at the end of September. We visited the dentist. At first she prescribed antibiotics and then from the next visit started draining the pus from it. The problem is this pus swelling comes back after one or two days. Now it has stayed the same for one week. The dentist hasn't done any xray of it yet. I wonder if the abscess treatment is this long. I have attached all the prescriptions as well.

Thanks

question apicoectomy or root canal retreatment on 46?

Post image
• Upvotes

Dentist recommended apicoectomy but then went on a rent about endodontists so I'm afraid he might be a bit biased and recommends me the older tech due to his age. Very low pain during rest, sometimes high pain during chewing. Was put on a antibiotics for a week, helped a lot with the pain. But the tooth still feels "weird", like there's something pulsating.

question Face swelling with irritated nerve?

• Upvotes

about nine months ago I got a filling for a cavity in one of my front teeth, since then it’s been slightly sensitive to hot/cold and pressure, but it’s never been a big inconvenience so I just never went to get it checked out. A few days ago that same tooth began to severely ache and became much more sensitive, I went and saw a dentist, and they claimed that it wasn’t infected, but only that the nerve was being irritated as it was right up against the filling, and that I could either wait to see if it gets better, or I could get a root canal and be done with it. I scheduled the root canal for next week and figured that I could deal with it until then, but today the area above of my face above my aching tooth began to swell and I’m starting to get pretty scared. what should I do? I have nearly two weeks until my appointment, am I fine to wait or should I seek more immediate care?

question Fiberglass rods visible

Post image
• Upvotes

Hello, two years ago, the teeth on both the left and right sides were rebuilt on the existing stumps. Root canals were performed, and glass fiber posts were inserted to hold everything together; the filling material is composite. Now, my question is: Why can I see the glass fiber posts? There are no holes—everything is smooth and sealed—but shouldn't the posts actually be underneath the composite to prevent infections? I’m not experiencing any pain or other issues; I just noticed it and thought I’d ask. Thanks in advance.

question Pain when eating 1 month after filling

Hello everyone,

I had a small cavity that required a filling on my 1st molar located on the upper left side of my jaw. It's on the side that's adjacent to the 2nd molar (I think it's called an interproximal filling).

I went in August 26th when the filling was done. I had pain when eating and flossing that continued for weeks so I went back to my dentist and she redid the filling on September 16th (almost a month ago).

Since then, it's been way better, but I still have pain when eating harder or crunchier foods. It's not as sharp, but rather a dull-ish pain. I also have mild discomfort when floss goes in or out. I went to my dentist in the beginning of the month and she said it should settle down within 1-2 months and said the filling is fine. She did an xray and bitewing and both showed nothing.

To me, this is not normal, but I'm not a dentist so I'd appreciate some insight from people who understand this. Is this normal for such a filling and should I just wait it out? I don't want to keep going every week to my dentist about this.

question Cut the inside of my lower gums, is this considered a "gaping wound" that needs stitches??

TL DR I am apparently too dumb to eat hot fries any longer, didn't even realize I had cut myself until my tongue ran over it and it stung, opened my mouth to check and witnessed this nightmare. Is this considered a "gaping wound" that needs stitches? It's smaller than .5 inch, but with the edges being wider in the middle I'm concerned. I can go to my normal dentist in probably about 2-3 hours and change if need be, I don't want it getting infected or not healing. It stopped bleeding after putting light pressure on it just by moving my tongue in such a way that it closed. Can't believe I cut myself this badly on a snack.

question What is this bump that’s on both sides of my gum?

I recently saw this today but I did notice it a week or two ago. But during that time my wisdom tooth was tryna erupt while I didn’t know at that time as well I had post nasal drip. My wisdom tooth came out from extraction and a week after now I notice this again. I typically don’t know if I can hydrogen peroxide rinse after a week of wisdom tooth extraction to get it away. I also have an appt with a physician so I will talk to them as well and my post nasal drip. Should I also let the dentist know? I also am a cheek biter as well but these bumps a bit higher up.

question How do I know if my gum is bleeding (after flossing) from me not flossing in a while or the gum being cut

I have to confess that I am not an avid flosser, and had only just started flossing daily again (3 days in the roll now), but notice that my gum bleed in multiple locations when I floss. I look up what bleeding gum meant on the internet the answer that I got was that my gum just wasn’t used to being floss. Despite that it still bugs a bit, knowing that I am quite clumsy and have quite a heavy hand.

question Worried about my future

25F here after dealing with severe mental health issues for years I couldn’t take care of my hygiene which resulted a horrible dental condition

Till now I have done this following work:

  1. 4 filling and 3 root canal

2.10 to 12 years ago got extraction of lower molar in a dental college and they didn’t bother to inform me about implant or bridge. Recently learned about consequences of leaving gap and considering getting implant if I still can.
I never had any pain or discomfort from the gap neither my upper molar dropped. Just the gap is a bit small

  1. On my next dentist appointment I probably need extraction of my last teeth due to extreme wear out

Now I want to how long will I have a normal life since my condition is too bad? Will my front teeth get misaligned due to the gap? I am worried about my looks and overall dental health. Will I get more dental problems in future even though I am taking care of it?
My anxiety is keeping me awake all night.

question 135/85 BP Denied Cleaning

Is it common practice to take blood pressure before teeth cleaning?

I have never had my bp taken at the dentist before today. My appointment was just for a cleaning, and the hygienist took my blood pressure, saw it was elevated 135/85, and told me she couldn’t clean my teeth. (Keep in mind the previous appt I had at the same location had several filings and no bp was taken).

I asked if this was some sort of new standard of care, and she looked at me like I was an idiot and said this is how it is at all dental offices. I didn’t argue with her because I didn’t want to waste any more of my time, but I am frustrated because I have gone to probably 10 dental offices in my life and have never been tested for hbp let alone turned away as a patient for it.

question How bad is it?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’m late 20s, haven’t been to the dentist in 10+ years. My hygiene has been mid-to-bad for a variety of mental health reasons. I’m trying to get better. Brushing at least once a day and flossing a few times a week (almost always with a little bit of bleeding). Currently looking into free/reduced cost care options in my area. Does it look like full-on periodontitis? I’m especially worried abt the discoloration along the gum line on the left (your left) canine.

question Filling

Post image
2 Upvotes

What is this filling ? They didn’t told me much. Just that i had a deep cavity & needed a root canal. Then they told me they would clean the decay & if they saw the nerve i would get it done but if not then a filling would be done instead

That was 6 days ago, they used numbing gel & gave me anesthetic injection but for some reason i felt a bit of pain (nothing serious) when they were working on it. Anyways i have throbbing pain right now, nothing crazy probably like a 5/10. A 800mg ibuprofen helps for hours. But i was wondering if i should go back soon or wait. I was thinking of giving it maybe a month to see if pain disappears during the heeling

question Lil abscess?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Is this a baby abscess forming? It hurts right where that pale spot is only when I apply pressure, kinda deep bruise-y sore feeling, and I just noticed it today/maybe a bit yesterday. I had a cleaning and I believe X-rays in August and I don’t remember them finding anything super problematic. No history of root canals or cavities in this tooth and I don’t smoke or drink at all.

My dentist is several hours away so it’s tough to get in on short notice. Thanks in advance!!
