Kanye put out a song called heil Hitler and still sells out stadiums.

Ed will be ok.

3.8k

u/joshak 27d ago

Kanye is also scheduled to perform at AT&T stadium in Arlington, which Macklemore has been banned from.

4.7k

u/brokeneckblues 27d ago

Criticizing genocide in Gaza is antisemitism but praising hitler is not. God I hate this timeline

1.8k

u/tsuness 27d ago

Just another reminder it was never about antisemitism.

u/AdministrativeLeg14 27d ago

The amazing thing is that there are articles making the rounds of Macklemore dressing up as an extremely offensive Jewish stereotype. (He’s since apologised for it; make of that what you will. Maybe he deserves forgiveness, maybe he doesn’t; I don’t know or care enough about the guy to try to find an answer.)

…But in spite of the photos of Macklemore in the Judenhass equivalent of blackface, what actually upset people was calling for the end to genocide in Gaza? That's what he gets cancelled for?

Huh.

Yeah, it sure as fuck isn’t really about antisemitism when they ignore evidence of actual antisemitism and insist that he must be cancelled for speaking against genocide.

128

u/tsuness 27d ago

Yeah that one killed me too, they had no issues with Macklemore until he said Free Palestine. There was nothing about his 2014 incident until after he was already cancelled.

59

u/Squeakygear 27d ago

What’s hilarious is Pink used his 2014 incident as an excuse for her “feeling scared” after being called out on her initial response to his recent activism. Indeed, the whole righteous indignation of her / Kraft is performative and simply a shield of Israel’s actions in Gaza.

I mean, it was a big deal in Jewish communities. I stopped listening to his music and don’t know many Jews who listen to him or have a high opinion of him.

5

u/tsuness 26d ago

And that's fine, his caracature was pretty racist and should be condemned. Robert Kraft and other Zionists not saying a word about it while he was on tour until he said Free Palestine screams of them looking for a better reason to cancel Macklemore than him being anti-genocide.

Those pictures and the apology were also from 12 years ago.

This wasn’t some new thing that just showed up, people just went digging because they didn’t give a shit when it happened. Only now so they can pretend to be outraged and offended is it an issue.

8

u/Used-Lake-8148 27d ago

What an outstanding comment. This sub seems to be the last place you can find reasonable, well-thought-out takes on Reddit.

3

u/kinkyaboutjewelry 27d ago

They would not acknowledge that because they do not want to separate those two things and treat them individually. If they stay glued together, then anyone against one of them is certainly accusable of the other thing. Which is very convenient for whoever is deciding what the talking points are.

2

u/addys 26d ago

I posted this elsewhere in the thread, repeating it for you- The difference is that only one of those was inside a venue during a paid performance - which exposes the venue and the organizers to liability. These are people with no moral or ethical standards whatsoever, but they *do* care about their bottom line.

2

u/CharlieSwisher 26d ago

I would consider what’s happening to Macklemore now as the opposite of cancelling

2

u/ShvitzG_d 26d ago

Speaking as a Jew, I can say confidently that conservative Christians and Trump are purposefully watering down the word to align with Israel at the behest of Bibi.

While there has been a surge in actual antisemitism across the U.S. and world, non-Jews are taking it less seriously because they just now see it at as “oh, Israel.”

I personally think it’s purposefully meant to harm us in the diaspora into moving to Israel and its expansionist state. It’s disgusting.

2

u/ExaminationWide5415 26d ago

Yeah, it sure as fuck isn’t really about antisemitism when they ignore evidence of actual antisemitism and insist that he must be cancelled for speaking against genocide.

Also note that fucking Heil Hitler Kanye West is performing at stadiums that Macklemore is banned at, which further points towards a lack of caring about actual antisemitism by those in charge.

Having said that, as dumb as banning Macklemore for his statements are, it's also very telling of much of the online "I'm antizionist not antisemitic" will literally find a hundred different ways to excuse almost any level of antisemitism as long as as you say free palestine as well. I will not be surprised by the end of the year, we see leftists embrace full on holocaust deniers like Candace Owens.

2

u/OkayCoward 26d ago

Maybe theres a connection between people's views of israel and this current conflict and the fact they'd dress up in jew-face. Hmmm

So I don't care about Ed sheeran. I literally couldn't name one of his songs. But... Everything I've read so far is that this was a management issue vs an owner issue. Basically Kraft said that he was banned from his stadiums, which in essence means the tour is over. So management kicked macklamore.

Now. Could Ed have said something to stop this? Probably not. These owners of these venues are totally insane. Same way live nation venues lock down everything. They hold the keys.

With that being said. He obviously should've issued a statement earlier and now he's fucked.

3

u/AdministrativeLeg14 26d ago

Well, the oligarchs owning the stadia are certainly the chief bad guys—they’re the ones demanding Macklemore be cancelled (not because of his history of antisemitism but) stated opposition to the Gazan genocide. Sheeran just sounds spineless.

To add, Israel originally stole the land from the Palestinians because they just didn't have anywhere else to go.

They kicked them out of their own residence, then genocide'd them because they used scraps to build a house in the backyard.

-1

u/FILTHBOT4000 27d ago

Sorry, this is ahistoric nonsense. The land was granted to Jews after the Ottoman Empire lost WW1 while being allied with Germany. They were trying to take land from others, conquer other countries, so part of the deal of losing is you lose some land to discourage you from trying that shit again. That's how war works. It wasn't "stolen".

Antisemitism is the word created for “Jew hatred”, because German antisemites wanted it to sound scientific.

Yes, technically, Palestinians are also Semitic people. But trying to downplay hatred of Jews by twisting the definition of antisemitism to extend beyond Jews is something modern antisemites do.

? i think i've lost the plot, what is it really about? is it, we attack anyone who calls us the bad guys bc it's not a genocide? sorry, i'm an internet old, and autistic; i'm struggling to keep track of all the sides and what they say they're doing and what they're really doing. :(

2

u/tsuness 27d ago

It's about the pro-Israel people not going after actual antisemitism and instead going after people who are going after Israel for the genocide and calling those people antisemites.

The big example being Kraft not calling his buddies who own other stadiums and having them stop an actual Nazi and Hitler sympathizer in Kanye West from performing.

1

u/ExaminationWide5415 26d ago

But it isn't for you either.

Macklemore basically dressed up to what is the equivalent of blackface, to a song about being cheap with money, and no one cares. The people who banned Macklemore clearly don't care about actual antisemitism, but on the other hand, unless it's a conservative, no one on the left will hold any level of antisemitism accountable.

People like Anna Kasparian making literal greedy Jew faces, Macklemore doing the Jewish equivelant of blackface, and no one cares, at all.

1

u/tsuness 26d ago

I imagine people cared when it happened and he apologized for it 12 years ago. Doesn't make it any less of an antisemitic caracature but those who cancelled him didn't complain until he said Free Palestine on stage and it was publicized.

1

u/Kichae 26d ago

Of course not. The Israelis have so thoroughly co-opted the idea of antisemitism that the world has forgotten that the Palestinians are a Semitic people. I mean, they're the people of Judea who stayed behind after the Jewish diaspora left. They just stopped being Jewish at some point...

100%. There’s nothing Zionists love more than mentioning Nazis, they would hate if you forgot about them.

61

u/catechizer 27d ago

Until you start comparing their actions with what the Nazis did. I'll never understand the people who think because the Nazis treated them that way, they now have the right to treat non-Nazis that way.

53

u/A-Literal-Nobody 27d ago

The fact that a group of people could endure multiple of their generations going through that kind of pain, and then turn around and inflict it on someone else is sickening.

50

u/lt_dt 27d ago

Israeli settlers are doing to Palestinians what was done to my Jewish family by the Nazis and complicit Poles in WW2. I can't be okay with that.

I think that there are two kinds of people in the world. People who experienced hardship and don't want subsequent generations to endure what they did, and people who experienced hardship and want subsequent generations to suffer as they did, or more.

There's actually maybe a third kind of person: those who've never known suffering and can't conceive that other people suffer.

4

u/Visible_Ad8628 27d ago

i was just thinking about this a lot lately. the older half of my siblings are the ones who think others deserve to suffer like they did, the younger half want to make the world a better place, doesnt want others to suffer as we did. i live in an abusive household

2

u/2The_Kaiserin2 27d ago

Funnily enough, that's true widely in my family… my dad and almost every of his siblings (3 of the 4) doesn't even try to make things better for their children. My younger sister has a motto saying "if I'm feeling bad, everyone around me feel bad and I'll make sure of it", and she actually makes everyone's day worse by annoying us because she had a bad day… on the other hand, I'm the eldest sibling and I always wished to make life easier for my family and friends around me and I regret giving my sister a childhood at the cost of mine. Divorce happened, I got parentified and I'm messed up as hell. My sister mever acknowledged my help with her and now she's doubling down on the bullying with me. Ungrateful brats…

2

u/StabbyBoo 26d ago

I was going to say, the evidence to this idea is easily seen in small scale cycles of abuse. You either continue or break the cycle.

Its what capitalism trains

3

u/iwilltalkaboutguns 27d ago

It's actually not surprising. Men that physically and sexually abused kids were likely abused themselves. They are traumatized and it causes them to inflict the same pain on others. Maybe there is something similar happening here.

Cults in general love resistance, because it pushes members back into their arms. This is why so many send members out to preach and recruit. Violence against them only furthers their beliefs. But in the case of Zionists, they don't preach or recruit openly to outsiders. It's hard to become Jewish, and they've had legitimate hatred throughout history that is abhorrent and wrong.

Zionists prey within their own religion on otherwise regular Jewish people, to make them feel afraid and isolated (due to exploiting that hatred) without others "like them" to protect them... instead of them being a part of a wider world tapestry, they're told they have to go to this specific country because it's the only place that's safe.

4

u/trebory6 27d ago

Honestly the fact that Israel hasn't said anything about Germany's far right gaining steam, makes me think that if push comes to shove Israel and modern Nazis might end up settling their differences and joining together against the ones they both hate. It's not crazier than any of the other shit currently happening.

The real number is much higher. Any number lower than 100,000 is using the official, now defunct, health ministry count, which used only identifiable deaths. So it doesn't apply, say, to people who were in a building when it got bombed and were buried under the rubble, which is like 90% of standing structures. It also doesnt count people who have died of famine or disease secondary to having their country completely destroyed.

I'm pretty sure Netanyahu has a copy of Mein Kampf on his nightstand.

1

u/Adventurous_Drama291 27d ago

You see, according to Netanyahu, Hitler was actually a good guy until the Mufti of Jerusalem convinced him to do a genocide.

Praising Hitler Is given a pass because it's the alt-right thing to do, for some reason.

1

u/ggclairobscur 27d ago

Just to make it more interesting, saying “free Palestine” to Netanyahu is the modern day equivalent of saying “Stop the holocaust!” To hitler. Imagine all the pop culture musical acts of the 40’s begging hitler to stop the holocaust. It wouldn’t even make it into his morning report lol. Sadly, I fear it’s quite the same with Netanyahu. It may give hope to Palestinians, however, or make them feel like they’re not alone, which is good. But let’s not pretend like Ed Sheeran was about to end the genocide/hatred/century old beef by canceling his tour

1

u/Relevant_Section 27d ago

I’m confused because Free Palestine crowd hates Israel (Jewish state) but also hates Hitler who hated the Jews? Idk what’s going on anymore

1

u/Braindead_Crow 27d ago

Saying heil hitler proves antisemitism is real. This is good for propaganda.

Saying Gaza is being targeted by isreal in a genocide could turn people with critical thought against isreal which is bad for propaganda.

1

u/Rich_Housing971 27d ago edited 27d ago

It's not the timeline. Stop saying this. You may not realize it, but saying "it's just the timeline" means we're just NPCs with no control over anything and the greedy/stupid/evil/manipulated people already won.

You hate the decisions. You hate the organizations that chose greed. You hate them having money and power.

You can do something about it. It won't destroy them overnight, but you can start by researching who these organizations are and not give them any money. After all, they are entertainment and 100% not necessary, unlike stuff like transportation and food.

Don't like the venue owners? Refuse to not only go to the venue for any events, but any other venues they own. They own a lot of venues? They boycott all of them. You don't need to go to concerts. Save your money. If you give in, this will continue.

It’s weird how being actually antisemitic is somehow more preferable to Zionists than someone being pro-Palestine/anti-genocide.

1

u/IndicationFickle5387 27d ago

Somebody always has to chime in with some “fixed it for ya” bullshit like you are the purveyor of truth, and only you should decide what language somebody chooses to represent something, so that you can decide exactly how it’s represented in everyone’s mind. It’s maddening, and the reason that progressive ideas eat each other and can never get ahead. Can you stop with the semantics at every given opportunity to make yourself look like more of an authority?

1

u/Electrical_Ad_5732 27d ago

Somehow, for some strange reason, everyone is a Zionist if they do not support Palestine, even though they are really not a Zionist.

Stop making shit up. There's already enough hatred on internet.

Apparently attacks on the Jewish community are not as bad as expressing support for Palestine and exposing the Zios

u/robilar 27d ago edited 27d ago

That's because the people that are objecting to Macklemore aren't objecting to anti-semitism. They don't need to get Ye banned because Ye is actually anti-semitic, and the people that dislike anti-semitism already don't like him. They need to get people like Macklemore banned (and people like Ms Rachel attacked and disenfranchised) because those people are criticising their actual vile acts which have nothing to do with Judaism. Israel's mass slaughter of Palestinians isn't a religious thing, it's a genocidal thing. Framing critiques as anti-Jewish is just a shield from legitimate criticism.

Don't get me wrong, anti-semites also attack Israel for militaristic state violence, so for a layperson that isn't paying close attention it might be hard to tell the difference. For those of us who are paying attention it's not difficult to tell the difference between a Ye West and a Macklemore, or a Ms Rachel and a Tucker Carlson. Or a Kraft that bans Macklemore and platforms Ye.

Edit: I just want to add that I'm pretty thrilled with the supporting acts for standing (or, rather, leaving) on principle. Some bigots rallied to silence someone speaking out for justice, and while they'll hurt a lot of innocent people (crews and fans), the bigots themselves will also take some heavy hits. Usually they just get away with it.

u/fowlplayer99 27d ago

Philosophically, the Ye nazi stuff is so ridiculous that there is a sort of blanket "that dude is insane" in every story. He is not an effective critic of anything Israel does. He's just a blunderbuss Nazi.

Looking at the overreaction to Macklemore or Ms Rachel (WTF?) - it's because these people track normal. Normal convinces average people, huh, this thing that reasonable not-crazy person said seems reasonable.

Macklemore is targeted because he's effective, and he's dangerous to the regime because of that.

Which is a goddamn joke. It's so funny to me that MACKLEMORE is the reason I knew as a young teen that the world was going to shit. His music has always spoken to me, but he himself speaks to ke even further. He's always been so cool and so supportive of absolutely every group of people that need love and people shit on him for it. LGBTQ+ folks. People with skin that isn't white. Palestinians. And somehow people think he's a "white rapper with a career that failed because he tried to fit in with his fellow black artists" knowing DAMN WELL that isn't what happened to him.

I'll never stop listening to dude's songs. "St Ides" by him is my favorite song ever made.

I like Mack. Hell, I liked Ed too. For me, this sheds new light on both of them though. I always knew Mack was supportive of things that lots of people would find deplorable. I thought Ed had some of the same views as well. I feel Mack’s public announcement was very honest, yet holding back quite a bit. I don’t know if Ed has made any yet. I imagine he’s slinking down in his chair so far you couldn’t see the top of his head if you were standing above him. Mack said he knows he’s going to lose sponsors and support, but it’s already being shown that it’s the exact opposite of that! Ed has shown true colors. Mack has been wearing them for I don’t even know how long. I’m sure Ed will be fine. He’s rich as hell already and it’s not the end of the world for him (maybe publicly for awhile though..) Mack on the other hand, is rich as well, but I think his stance on this, as well as his constant, blatant, open view and understanding of all the other “deplorable” things, just opened so many new doors for him that his head will be spinning trying to figure out which ones to walk through! Mack’s going to win here! By a landslide! No doubt!

Fucking shoutout to you, dude, because you just said what I've been telling mfs for years. When America was in its "acceptance" era and gay marriage was finally starting to be seen as normal and things like that were happening, he was a fucking rockstar and I was so thrilled to see it. Eventually, a certain orange tard is gonna be gone and there won't be anymore empowerment going towards the sick fucks that are scattered across our country, and hopefully people go back to realizing Macklemore was ahead of the game and a genuinely fantastic human being when it happens. I've never been one of those people that goes crazy over celebrities and their every move like some mfs do, but I'll be a supporter of Mack until the day I go down on the dirt because THAT is what a truly inspirational human-being looks like.

2

u/failedopportunities 27d ago

Agreed my friend. Very much so.

2

u/I_Makes_tuff 27d ago

I saw Macklemore 15 years ago and there was about 300 of us in the audience, and now Israel wants him dead because of how effective he is at convincing people genocide is wrong. So weird.

Robert Kraft and his billionaire buddies love Nazis.

1

u/hergumbules 27d ago

Also one of the people that pushed for Ed to drop Macklemore. Iirc he said something like he won’t allow Macklemore to play at Gillette or something to that nature. Never was a big fan of Ed Sheeran but didn’t mind when he was on the radio but now I’ll certainly go out of my way not to listen to him lol

1

u/MojoJojoSF 27d ago

I believe he is in the Epstein files. So that tracks.

Yeah, but Texas Baptists are 100% all in on any kind of genocide that looks “Bible Approved” to them.

Not that they’ve actually read it.

2

u/serotonin_xxIII 27d ago

Modern-day Christians are the worst cherry-pickers in the Abrhamic religions. They've only read Deuteronomy to give them an excuse for hating LGBTQ; and The New Testament - since apparently Jesus redeeming people for their sins somehow means Christians can scarf down bacon.

2

u/____trash 27d ago

It really shows that this has nothing to do with antisemitism. Kanye is THE antisemitism guy and they have zero problem with him.

u/Dontbite03 27d ago edited 26d ago

now that (if true im on reddit im not checking) is a spotlight on the terrible world we live in. we see it every day stuff like this and we all keep staring at tiktok because it doesn’t affect us

Jerry Jones likes Nazis and racists a lot more than he likes liberals.

Too bad the majority of Americans are like Jerry.

2

u/Used_Gear8871 27d ago

Isn’t Kayne a Trump and Musk supporter? Aren’t majority of his kind that as well? Jeff Bezos wedding attendees gave us clear picture into who these people are. How much clearer do you need it?

2

u/serotonin_xxIII 27d ago

Arlington, TEXAS? Wow, I'm shocked /s

1

u/SeniorAtmosphere9042 27d ago

I don’t think Macklemore was banned from AT&T Stadium or that Jerry Jones gives a shit. He was banned from Gillette Stadium and Robert Kraft convinced a few of his friends (like Jeffrey Lurie) to push him off the entire tour.

1

u/jello_kraken 27d ago

I had to look it up to confirm. Holy crap. Why

1

u/omgsrslycmon 27d ago

It’s optics. It’s economics. Ban Kanye and you’re also racist on top of everything else (lose 💵)Kanye is also worth like 30x Macklemore and has a much bigger audience hence pulls in more 💵. The powers at be don’t bat an eye at ultra wealthy people being weirdos (ie Musk’s Heil Hitler salute). Once u understand this you realize these comparisons are silly.

1

u/CapTurangaLeela 27d ago

Jerry Jones is a piece of shit.

1

u/irishcybercolab 27d ago

Maybe he should have a concert with Ed headlining. Both of them can entertain one another. Ed really should have stood up for this one instead of selling out.

1

u/Top_Mongoose 27d ago

... I thought Macklemore died tbh ...

1

u/Ok-Turnip-9035 27d ago

you don’t say…

1

u/Excellent-Quit-9665 27d ago

He also lived a week or so in Mercedes Benz stadium as his home to record an album, which Macklemore is now banned from as well

Nazis good

Opposing genocide bad

According to that stadiums owners/management?

1

u/dangoodspeed 27d ago

Oh wow... I originally heard that Sheeran kicked Macklemore off the tour because of his statements... but it was actually the venues who said they'd cancel the shows if Macklemore was on the bill, and forced Sheeran into a tough decision. I think most would agree that Sheeran made the wrong decision, but I hope most can also understand that there are a lot of employees counting on the tour for paychecks for their families, a lot of fans wanting to see his show, and he himself would likely lose millions if he canceled the shows.

1

u/AggravatingYak6557 27d ago

AT&T Stadium is owned by a man who literally protested segregation.

1

u/bobbymcpresscot 27d ago

at this point I wouldn't be surprised if Kanye got approved for a show in Tel Aviv.

1

u/iwilltalkaboutguns 27d ago

You can literally say anything EXCEPT criticize israel or even call out the genocide (which in turn is taken as a criticism of Israel).

It's clear where the line is. Also Kanye is seen as a useful idiot by those guys...

1

u/kellstromc 26d ago

ok i'm confused, wtf? BTW ed sheeran performed at Kraft's wedding in 2022, so it's not like they don't know each other.
