Guest List Only ⭐️ Kacey Musgraves responds to Kristi Noem: "I don’t think you have a dog in this fight but if you did you would have shot it."

Kacey is actually from Texas and Ella is not… which is literally the whole point of that song lmao.
I think the actual life long Texas resident is well within their rights to speak on Texas politics.

I live in Illinois and have spent more time in Texas this year than Paxton for work alone. It’s incredibly fitting for this performative ass admin that embodies everything their voters claim to hate

As someone not into country at alllll I only just recently found out that Kacey Musgraves and Zach Bryan are cool. Good for them!

Anti ICE and surprisingly has 2 trans folks in his band. I’m not a country music listener but good for him I guess. Personally he is messy.

I hate that he is such a narcissist in his relationships because he writes beautiful music, I’ve seen him live and he’s great, and he has good political stances.
Once some of his ex’s came out and explained how abusive and awful he could be, it reminded me so much of my ex and I was beyond disappointed.

Let me see what I remember. Left his first wife, whom he met when they were both military, when he got famous. Dated Brianna Chickenfry who later accused him of abuse so he has beef with Dave Portnoy (who is also an absolute ass. I’m not disputing that.) He’s married again but know nothing about her.

Its unfortunate that it's African American roots have been largely erased and now the genre is largely resistant to Black musicians. The instrument used for much of country (the banjo) comes from West Africa! Cmon now!

Kacey’s ALWAYS been that girl! She consistently showed who she is, especially in the boys club country world she’s in. I love her for it.
Anyone here who’s thinking you’d like to support her but you don’t like country music, I BEG you to listen to Golden Hour. I am not being dramatic when I say it’s one of the greatest albums of all time.

I’m trying to expand my music tastes and give genres I normally don’t listen to a try. I absolutely fell in love with Kacey this year and I’m SO glad she seems like a cool person because one of my hesitancies about country has been the shift from ‘fuck cops / the law’ vibes to ‘americuh’ over the past twenty odd years.

I’m not a country fan as a whole, but I do have a “Woke Country/Folksy/Americana” playlist that has her on it. I suggest also checking out Tyler Childers (“Nose to the Grindstone,” “In Your Love” with the beautifully done video that made me bawl, for two options).

YES! I was veryyyy anti-country until my friend put me on that album back in 2018. It instantly became one of my favorites of all time. Got to see Kacey perform the album live at Lollapalooza back in 2019, and I remember singing along so much that some girl in front of me turned around and was like, “damn bitch you know all the lyrics!”, Yup, and still do 🤣 Kacey’s the best!

She previously opened for Morgan Wallen, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything this early in her career.

I’m not sure I’d call that a conservative event even if you don’t like Wallen. Not in the same ways I’d call, say, a Kid Rock concert a conservative event.

u/Meat-Dimension Mom, I am a rich man💰 6h ago
Also Morgan Wallen has specifically avoided politics. Maybe we can guess what he believes but he’s not spoken about it nor has he promoted anything.
He’s actually turned down invites from Trump.
So I wouldn’t say merely opening for him, especially given he’s maybe the biggest country star of the moment, says anything about someone’s politics
129
u/BakedPlantains I’ve been noticing gravity since I was very young 6h ago
One can only assume based on his eagerness to say the N word and also his association with other conservatives.

Ella did a concert in my college town and I went and she gave full monologues that almost felt like megachurch talk. I wouldn’t be surprised if she was super conservative but also I don’t really need Ella Langley’s thoughts on geopolitics lol
→ More replies (3)53
u/RangerDangerfield 6h ago
She was raised Southern Baptist and probably spent a lot of time in Bible belt megachurches growing up. Regarding of her political beliefs, it’s not surprising that performance style had an influence.
316
u/mcatlin23 7h ago
I don’t think Ella is interested in politics at all but doesn’t wanna alienate country radio. Kacey, The Chicks, anyone who speaks out gets treated like shit by an industry that should uplift them. I don’t know that I really blame Ella for not involving herself when her career is so fledgling. Kacey has an AOTY Grammy and doesn’t have to take this shit anymore. I do hope things change dramatically in country music one day as it is a genre that was built on sticking it to the man. I don’t know how it strayed so far from its intentions.

MAGA are the funniest people in that they think they’re sticking it to the man by…supporting the current president in the most cult-y way possible. I guess to them “the man” = libs.

She performed at Kid Rock's MAGA festival despite the backlash, while on stage she gave a speech telling people to ignore "internet negativity" and social pressure, and she called critics "empty wagons". She also praised Kid Rock in interviews.

Yes, that too. Without being mean, I think people here arguing that so and so might not be conservative or MAGA, need to realize that they just need to learn more about dog whistles. Most people won't come out and say they're racist, but their actions will

I think she’s a country Ed Sheeran and is gonna say “I don’t do politics.” And like him is too dumb or ignorant to know that shows us exactly what side you’re on.
43
u/strangelyliteral 6h ago
Ed genuinely betrayed his principles. I will die on the hill that he probably talked a big game in private about Israel committing genocide. It’s not a coincidence that every one of his opening acts and his touring band were pro-Palestinian. He benefited from their activism, especially amongst fans who were otherwise nervous about his “apolitical” stance (lowkey a bit of stolen valor there). But when that activism threatened his bottom line, he turned craven and that’s why he comes off so pathetic.
Ella’s demographic are “independents” who “don’t do politics” and “both sides” everything because they don’t want to publicly admit they voted for Trump three times. Nobody expects better of her or her audience; she’s MAGA until proven otherwise. Her base is more likely to turn on her for, say, saying something nice about a trans person.
21
u/mundane_wor1d 6h ago
Ed has always been “No sides” guy. Interesting how he’s only gotten controversy about it now.
Lyrics from “what do I know?” 2017
“daddy told me “son don’t get involved in politics, religion or other peoples quotes””Do I think Ed Sheeran leans towards hard right political view, no. But I do think it’s interesting who he decides to be friends with (freinds with everyone…). And that he is a firm believer in the “shut up and sing, don’t talk about politics” mindset.

But he did take a side and make political statements about the invasion of Ukraine, that’s the most problematic part IMO.
He wouldn’t have had anywhere near as much backlash about wussing out where it comes to Palestine if he truly hadn’t ever spoken up politically.
But IMO as a public figure, he can’t break that rule to speak out about one genocidal conflict that’s “safe” to speak up against with virtually no backlash, then try and invoke the no politics rule again to weasel out of speaking up against the much more controversial genocide that comes with a tonne of backlash.
