Zesty Paws brand has an AI Ad on amazon showing a Germans Sheppard attack a cat - WTF.
I'm pretty frustrated at this, borderline livid. I was minding my own business, amazon shopping for pup supplies, as one does... and BAM - a cat is getting mauled.
Zesty paws, a pet company, that I know sells okay salmon oil/supplements, has an video banner ad on amazon right now - go look - I searched "Salmon Oil for Dogs" on amazon and Zesty Paws has their ad banner play a video.
The ad video shows a AI video of a GSD (German Sheppard Dog) puppy harming and attacking a cat. The AI dog is not explicitly the problem with some playful movements - ITS THE CAT who is showing being attacked, dragged and thrown by the tail, hissing, and in total fear. -Super not okay.
This could be seen as me giving hate to AI, but hate even more that somewhere, some human approved this.
I work at a pet care/dog walking company in seattle so I might have higherBASIC standards for companies regarding this stuff, but I'm just super not okay with this. I'm a reddit lurker, never post, but I'm busy. This just crossed a line for me. I'm motivated to make calls and get it removed. I've reported it amazon. I've reached out to the company.
What do you guys think - How do I go about enacting meaningful change to actually have this removed and have them rethink just having SOMEONE review this stuff, and maybe figuring out how to NOT have AI allowed to depict stuff like this and allowed to be posted on amazon?
Also, I screen recorded the video on my laptop, but I'm not sure how to upload it?
EDIT: see video in comment.
EDIT: added this comment for elaboration.
I did want to post a follow up comment to address possible differentiating opinions- which we know we will have - and that's what makes reddit great! But as always - leave an open mind and be kind - we all love animals and have a lot in common here.
Final point/TLDR: I just don't think we should condone anything that is borderline animal cruelty, especially with AI. There should be no room for that here.
I'm sure you may see some cats play rough - totally fair perspective. I had to watch a few times before I caught all the cues. Given this is AI, the dog - totally play, no worries there. Now the I would kindly ask you to consider watching it a few more times looking for key body language cues that definitely show the cat is not playing. I admit its a bit harder if you are not familiar as I am with animal body language or behavior. To only state where I am coming from and my perspective: 30+ yrs exp here working directly with cats and dogs in my career, teaching body language and care. So I will my best to softly persuade some of you here.
Also given this is AI its a little weird. I only see the fear indicators, with whale eyes, ears withdrawn consistently and whole body flattened and self protective, claws fully out, movements showing only escape tactic to get away or fight, only turning to use teeth upon an assumed 'pain' trigger.
There's no fun chomp chomp playful enjoyment from this AI cat. Its AI. Yes, I agree it's borderline on the play possibility, but I don't see any play indicators that we typically would see if it was a real cat, AI didn't get that - and thats a problem. If it was, I would've posted. But we are actively teaching AI, and companies, what is okay and not okay, and I don't think this is clear. Its crossing that line. It's fine if you don't see it, but I do. I just don't think we should condone anything that is borderline animal cruelty.
**The bigger issue is us as a society approving AI to generate cruelty, even if it is borderline "maybe from a certain light it doesn't look that way but maybe i could possibly see where you think that way". The fact that we have to argue over if it may or may not be - if it is borderline - AI shouldn't be putting it out there. Slippery slopes are dangerous my friends, let's be careful and hold the corporations accountable.
