MOD POST Remembering and Honoring u/bluequail

It is with a heavy heart that I share some incredibly sad news with our community.

Our top mod [u/bluequail](u/bluequail) passed away on June 30th. I was informed on that day by her oldest son. He also announced it on her facebook page for those who knew her IRL.

bluequail was a vital part of this community, volunteering her time, energy, and passion to help make this space a welcoming and safe environment for everyone. She was an active mod in this same sub for over 16 years. It's incredibly rare to see that level of commitment and longevity these days. She was a great friend and I miss her.

She was a very kind woman who not only took care of her family, but was also very kind and generous to people in need everywhere. She donated a lot of money over the years to complete strangers on Reddit, in subs like [r/assistance](r/assistance) and [r/care](r/care). She helped people IRL too, and even welcomed some people into her own home. She also cared for animals on her farm.

My thoughts and prayers are with bluequail’s family, loved ones, and friends during this difficult time. Thank you all for being part of this community and for helping us honor her memory. Her presence will be deeply missed here.

I know she made many friends on Reddit under this username or her other account where she made most of her donations. I want to invite everyone to use the comment section below as a space to share your favorite memories, expressions of gratitude, or kind words in her honor.

Please keep all comments respectful and supportive.

Below are the rules of this sub. Disregarding any of these rules may result in a ban. Both posts and comments are subject to all rules.

  1. Nothing personal relationship, sex, or dating related or anything about stalking a person. Even commenting on these threads is a grounds for a ban.

(This is code for "no romance related stuff") No dating advice. No hookup advice. No sex related advice, including anything involving rape (even if it happened to you), molestation, or underage sexual activity.

  1. Nothing about personal messaging each other - Don't ask or tell posters or other commenters to PM, DM, or inbox you.

  2. No sharing/posting to drama subs - Anybody cross posting any threads to the drama causing subs (subreddit drama, any of the SRS, just anything to increase the drama in a thread) will be banned. That just won't be tolerated at any level. Don't tattle on the mods of other subs here either.

  3. No revenge submissions - No "How to get even" at all, not in submissions, not in comments.

  4. No threadjacking or comment qualifiers - Stay focused on OP's problem. If you disagree with someone else's advice, offer some advice of your own with a top level comment instead of debating. If you agree with someone's advice and have nothing to add, just upvote it.

  5. No misogyny, misandry, racism, religious intolerance, or similar - Respect one another, even those you disagree with. We're all equal here. 6. No lying advice - Don't ask how to lie, don't advise on lying.

  7. No references to suicides - Anything related to suicidal ideations are not allowed. For the sake of yours or your family/friend's safety, anything mentioning suicide needs to go to /r/SuicideWatch

  8. No soliciting items or funds - Since we allow throwaways, don't solicit money in here. Please view any effort to solicit money in here as a scam. But any need for donations can go to /r/assistance or /r/care.

  9. No advertising - Do not link your subreddit (unless it is relevant to the subject matter of the post), your youtube page, your personal website, clickbait, or stuff for sale. Mods are the arbiters of what constitutes advertising.

  10. Kinda Safe for work - We know that lots of controversial and personal things get talked about here, and that's fine. Try to keep your titles safe for work by avoiding foul language and graphic descriptions.

  11. Nothing about missing persons - Don't ask about how to track someone down or find someone you used to know.

  12. No stand-alone jokes. A joke with legitimate advice is fine, but not by itself.

Ban Appeals

  • For ban appeals: Do not delete any of your comments and posts, especially if they were removed by the mods. Deleting submissions looks evasive, and it forces us to choose between your word and our memory. Only the mod that removed you can reinstate you.

  • Ask once.

  • Ask nicely.

Other I think I stumbled across cp on the internet

Hi, I think the title already says it all, I was browsing to watch some nsfw videos online but I think I stumbled across a site that shows very underage girls and kids.

I didn’t watch the videos but the thumbnails alone are enough to know how young these girls were.

I need help if you know where I can flag this stuff, my local police won’t do shit with it, are there like online forums and groups where I can put this?

Hope someone can help

Interpersonal Mother self invited herself to doctor appointment

To preface, I (34F) have not been good for a while and it's getting worse. My hunch is a metabolic/hormonal issue so I booked myself an endocrinologist appointment, without informing my GP (who I no longer trust for reasons I'll explain if you need) and nobody else beside my boss, for logistics reasons.

I'm collecting my previous medical findings and asked my mother for some as 1- they are not on my health portal

2- I can't find them in the place she usually stores the files.

The appointment came up and now my mother wants to come too.

I do NOT want her there. She has an habit of claiming to be supportive and dismissing anything wrong with me in the same breath, the last thing I need is her minimising/rationalize them in front of the specialist.

I'm still in the age bracked where you struggle convincing doctors that something is going on without it being labeled "stress". That's one of the reasons I no longer trust my GP.

I told her I'd rather go alone but didn't elaborate further, because she'd get even more mad if I tell her is because I don't trust her to stay silent.

She wants to come because she's still hung up when I didn't tell her I was diagnosed with depression a decade ago (take a guess why I didn't say anything?) and because she wasn't there when my gyno found a uterine thing (it was nothing to worry about).

Now she's not looking for the files and won't elaborate about grandmas tyroid issues. She didn't say outloud that's because of the appointment but it's obvious it is.

I dropped an email to the hospital asking for the records but I'm not optimistic.

I could ask granny directly but I'd rather not as I don't want her to worry, she's 90+ but very sharp and she'd freak out.

I'm ok with meeting halfway, she can drive but she waits outside. That's apparently unacceptable.

Help me figure out a way to tell her she's welcome to come but she'll have to stay outside without it sounding as if I don't trust her.

Life Decisions Am i doing the right thing????

I'm currently in an LSAT prep course (which I've already paid for) because I want to go to law school and it's been two days. For context, I have a really bad anxiety disorder and I was unsure if I should even entertain the idea but I felt pretty good about my decision to start this. However, I've been experiencing intense nausea and stomach issues which is not common for me, and I'm thinking that this is a really bad indicator of what is to come. My mom says I should give it more time. What do you all think?

Education Changing my Major-- I have no idea where I want my life to go

I have been committed to becoming a nurse for several years. Unfortunately, I missed ONE APPLICATION DEADLINE, and now I am reevaluating my whole future.

(Please keep in mind, I am AuADHD)

I have realized several things:

I like the prospect of working in healthcare, but direct patient care is not right for me. I worked briefly as an EMT; People are so unpredictable, and what you learn in textbooks and labs rarely applies to real life (I'd be surprised if a book taught you how to handle an aggressive patient, no clothes, and a pelvic gunshot wound running around the ER).

I think I was drawn to the clearly established career path that nursing offered. The education to become an RN isn't ambiguous to me, and there is a (basically) guaranteed job after graduation. I latched on to the first degree that felt safe and acceptable to my family, then didn't stop to consider other options even when it felt wrong.

I used to think I knew what I wanted to do 10 years from now, but now I'm not even sure what I want to do in two months!

I'm tempted to drop out of college and find a tolerable job, but I know I would be miserable. I love academia and can stoke passion for any challenging subject I must study.

I feel like I was born to be a scholar, but forced to pick a vocation...My strengths lie in biology--specifically physiology and microbiology-- but I am also interested in sociolinguistics.

I have no idea where to go from here or who to talk to.

Life Decisions I feel like my father stole from my family, how do I confront him about it?

When my father met my mother he worked as a bartender and blew through my mother's savings. He started higher education two times, both of which my mother financed and my father has never finished. When me(19M) and my brother (18M) were born my father invested my mom's savings into a scam without my mother knowing and lost it all. When they tried to go after the person he threatened my family by hurting me and my brother (we were toddlers at the time). So we got stuck at my grandmother's moldy flat. Around 5 years later a richer relative of ours gave us money for a flat because she couldn't bear seeing me and my brother cough in our moldy rooms. My mom wanted the flat to be on my and my brother's names but my father outright refused and put it on his name as the relative was his mom's cousin. Fast forward 6 years my parents got divorced because they constantly fought and my father started kicking my mother out whenever he felt like it. My mom took me and my father took my brother so no one paid child support and we didn't decide about visitations in court so we were always free to go wherever we liked. Since then my mom has never had a home. She got married a few years later and my father got engaged this summer. I live with my grandmother, my mother lives with her husband and my brother lives in a dorm as he studies half across the country. My father is looking to sell the place because he is moving across the city to be with his fiance. I already feel like I don't have a home because of my father and I wouldn't like him to sell the current place (which is a few minutes walk from my grandmother's place), as I feel like it would negatively impact our already distant relationship and possibly jeopardize my future as my grandmother is quite old and if anything happens to her I will have nowhere to go because her 3 daughters will be inheriting her flat. I am also really angry with my father for all the harm he's done to my family, especially my mother both emotionally and financially.

Do I even bring this up with him? If so how could I talk to him without completely ruining our relationship? What could I possibly achieve with him even if I am careful about my approach?

Life Decisions I feel homesick and uninspired where I currently live, even though it’s the only place I thrive. What should I do?

I’ve lived in New York for a year and a half now and although I love it, I can’t help but feel that living here is just a distraction from living the life I’m supposed to be living. I thrive here spiritually, mentally, physically, but my soul is tied to the place where I grew up. The landscape is beautiful; I understand and I am endeared to the people there more. I look at photos of that place and I yearn to go back there, but I sort of know I can’t anymore. There’s nothing there for me anymore, and if there is something there for me, it’s only bad stuff in the state I left there in (running away in part, no genuine connection to the type of people I envision myself spending time with, a terrible reputation in my community). I’m an artist and I don’t feel inspired by New York the way a lot of people do, too. I make art from the perspective of where I came from and I gradually feel that POV waning the longer I live in New York. I have this imagination that I can just return home and everything will work out, but every time I visit I just get the same feeling of helplessness again. I feel at the mercy of people back home in a way I don’t feel in New York, but in New York I hardly feel anything at all. Everything in NY is almost curated in a way to dull your senses, your instincts, and, at worst, even your humanity. It’s a matter of choosing who and what I want to become at this point. I want to love it so badly, but it just doesn’t love me back, and I simply don’t know how to make a decision anymore.

Life Decisions Am I missing out on the college experience?

I transferred to the university of ga from my state school in metro Atlanta and now I’m deciding to go back. I came because this was my dream school and I finally had the opportunity to go.
Bring a transfer already was hard but my experience being here for even a semester has had horrible effects on my grades and overall wellbeing. At first it was the usual homesickness because it’s my first time ever away from my family, back at home I commuted to school 15 mins away. But it slowly has started feeling like everything about being here makes me feel awful.
I tell everyone I came here for the amazing accounting recruitment and overall national recognition, but honestly, I came here because people told me to. I came because saying I went here sounded better than my state school. And I found out the hard way that I shouldn’t do something if my hearts not in it.
I didn’t mind living at home, I found it convenient and cheap. Everything was perfect, my grades, my social life, my effort.
I knew that I wanted to be a party person so bad. I thought being at home was keeping me trapped from all the things I “wanted” to do, but I come here with all the freedom and am still the homebody I always was.
At home I felt fulfillment, with my family, my grades, my friends, the small casual things I’d do.
Athens is fun in the college town sense but compared to the metro area, there isn’t much that I find interesting. My gpa is going down and I’m having an identity crisis because of it. I feel like I put myself in an unnecessary situation and now I’m paying the price of it.
Some people tell me I’m losing out on an incredibly important time in my adult life, that I’m going to be dependent forever if I go home, and that I’ll never get the same recruitment or prestige elsewhere.
Honestly my day to day life back home had nothing to do with my parents, I felt I was extremely productive just knowing I had a ground to stand on; I felt like there was a life outside of school.
Others tell me to go where I’m happy because that’s where I’m thrive and take up the opportunities. Going home would make me happy but I just wonder if I’m supposed to be sacrificing some happiness for my potential future.
I didn’t even get into the business college here this semester due to a high application pool and competition, so next semester I’d be taking all electives until I can reapply. If I go back, I could be taking all my major classes and not essentially be wasting a semester.

Am I weak for giving up this opportunity?
Am I setting myself back for wanting to go home and live the college life that fit my happiness?
Is there a problem with me seeking the comfort and peace I could have back home?
Should I be striving for more?
Am I lame for liking being a commuter student?

Mental Health I can't stop thinking about something that happened 4 years ago

hey everyone on reddit, I really need some advice because i am stuck in a really painful mental loop and i feel so low about myself right now today 😔

ive journalled, yoga, went to the shops, nothing is helping.

nearly 4 years ago i went through an intense internal interview process four times for a bdr role at a huge corporate company across 2 years and I was the only internal person who didn't get it.

i was already completely burnt out from trying to promote so many times and my energy battery was at zero. i had a panel of about 6 to 8 managers interview me. deep down i secretly didn't even like them because they were hyper extroverted and self centred. I knew deep down I didn't want the job, I would've hated it and it was too extroverted for me. I also found out recently that im actually wired differently and neurodivergent so social cold calling doesn't come naturally to me at all....

i didn't get the role anyways so I reapplied after I left about a year later because I couldn't find a job and sales was the only thing I was qualified for, the recruiter had a chat with me for over an hour and I was honest with what happened, he chatted a few days later to the directors who know me from being internal and he then sent me a really nice email saying "following a thorough review of both your prior and recent panel assessments, they feel the outcomes have not yet demonstrated the level of readiness they are looking for in this role." he then said in the email to reapply in the future once ive made hands-on experience elsewhere first.

my problem really is that i just can't stop thinking about it. i keep spiralling and thinking that the managers are out to get me, or that they thought i was a weirdo, or that it was all my fault or that there was some conspiracy against me for some reason because I was very young starting there and I had a different type of personality.

every time i see their names pop up on linkedin it triggers an intense knot in my stomach. logically i have the proof from the email that it was just a standard corporate rubric checklist rejection and not personal, but my mind keeps inventing new reasons to feel bad all the time.

it's taking up so many hours of my life and making me feel so unworthy and depressed today. i think it might be an ocd and rsd/autistic loop because no amount of logical proof shuts the thoughts down for good and ive asked AI over 100+ times what to do or think.

how do i finally forgive these managers, forgive myself for the lost time, and stop this 4 year old situation from controlling my happiness? i just want my power back

Mental Health I'm tired of always being negative, how can I work on being more positive and optimistic?

So pretty much just the title says I'm trying to work on being a better person. More specifically I'm trying to work on being a less negative and pessimistic person.

I want to be able to do this because I have been like this before, back when I was in high school and to a lesser extent college. Nowadays, really ever since I started my early 20s, I feel like I've been less happy and more toxic in life. Mostly in high stress situations, I guess I just have an issue of lashing out and freaking out whatever my emotions are high. Which in and of itself is an issue because I feel like my emotions are constantly sensitive and elevated. It's resulting in me just becoming way less approachable and amicable that I was in my teen years.

Maybe this has to do with me being officially diagnosed with depression and anxiety, but the thing is I am talking to a therapist and soon I'll be back on meds after speaking to a psychiatrist so that's something at least. Unfortunately though stuff like therapy and medicine (for now at least) aren't really readily available for when I need it. And I feel like I need it most when my mind starts to go crazy and resort to being a pessimistic, hopeless, "oh woe is me" individual that I have become.

A lot of people however are able to cope with these feelings or get rid of them entirely and I want to start working towards eliminating those negative feelings. I don't want to always have to resort to being the way I am whenever things get tough for stressful or when I'm facing a challenging situation (my Reddit history, as much as I hate to admit, can attest to this). So I guess the question that I'm asking is how can I combat these thoughts? How can I focus on being less toxic and pessimistic whenever I'm faced with some sort of difficulty or adversity and not resort to lashing out about my problems every single day?

Medical Visible dust on pupil but can’t get it out!!!

Have had something in my eye for the passed few hours and me and my wife have been trying to get it out. Looks like a piece of dirt or sand. It’s directly on my pupil but no matter how much I touch it it doesn’t move but there’s very obviously something there that wasn’t there before.
Any advice? Have tried pulling eyelid out, rubbing the shit out of it, water rinse, q tip. About to try to sleep and see if it’s there in the morning

Mental Health I’m Concerned About My Mom’s Mental Health

I (22F) am worried about my mom’s (55F) mental health and I’m not sure what to do. I probably noticed things getting bad about 2 years ago, but I had been away at college and didn’t see how truly bad it was until I moved home. I graduated in June, but moved home at the end of August because that’s when my lease was up. My brother (19M) has been living with her the whole time this has been going on. He says he’s felt alone for a long time. Before I go any further, I should probably mention that my parents have been divorced since 2010. Even before that, my mom did all the heavy lifting. My dad was not a good husband or father, and I understand that doing everything by yourself for so long can catch up to you.

About 2 years ago, I noticed the house wasn’t as clean as she usually had it when I was growing up. She never let the house stay messy for long, and even looking back at old photos where you could see our clean house in the background feels like a lifetime ago. I’m not going to pretend that I haven’t also contributed to this mess. In fact, all of the stuff I brought home from college has been sitting in the garage since I came home and it’s caused arguments between the three of us. I’m working on it. I’m decluttering my room and I have a storage unit but for now it’s kind of just all over the place.

My brother said at some point she also stopped cooking and just started door dashing for every meal. Since I’ve been home, she’s only cooked twice and both times were within the last couple weeks. I appreciate that she’s trying, but it’s still concerning. I’m not the greatest cook myself, but in college I cooked for myself a lot. Since she started door dashing, she stopped going to the grocery store. In fact, she recently left the house to run errands for the first time in a while the other day and I’m proud of her.

Earlier this year, she quit her job out of nowhere. I knew she hadn’t been happy there for like two years prior to leaving, but I never would have expected her to quit without having another job lined up first. She was a marketing director making a little under $250K annually, but she said it was mentally draining and just couldn’t take it anymore. At this time, I was still in school and the only reason I found out is because I tried to use her FSA card at the pharmacy and it declined. I called her to ask about it, and she admitted she quit about 2 weeks prior.

She asked me not to tell people, so I kept it pretty quiet. The only person I told was my best friend, and he thinks she was fired. I asked her, and she says she wasn’t, and that many people assumed she did. My brother said before she left, she would oversleep a lot and he’d have to wake her up in the morning sometimes. However, she was there for 11 years and could pretty much do whatever she wanted. She was the second employee hired when they were a start up, and even though getting fired isn’t totally impossible, it seems unlikely. She was a really valuable asset to the company, and she’s never been fired before.

They threw her a goodbye party, which they don’t do when they fire you. I interned at this company for 2 years when she worked there, and I saw the difference between people who quit and people who got fired. The reason my friend thinks she was fired is because she negotiated 6 months salary to live on. Idk the exact amount, but half of whatever she was making, plus her unused PTO and however much taken out for taxes. My guess is probably $30-40K but I’m not sure. My friend insists that this can only happen when you’re fired, but she was there so long that I could see this happening without that being the case.

She’s been living pretty comfortably, but at some point the money will run out and I want her to find a job soon. She can’t afford to retire, and even if she could, she’s not old enough. If for no other reason, I would like for her to get out of the house and do something. As a recent college graduate, I am also job hunting but it hasn’t been easy. My grandma (her mother) passed away about a month ago, and that has been understandably hard on her. I know that leading up to her death, it was difficult for my mom to watch her wither away and watch the dementia slowly start to take over. I don’t blame her for being upset about that, but things have been going down hill since before that.

She says she was waiting for her mother to pass away before looking for another job, and now that she has, she’s ready. This still worries me because of how bad the job market is. Even with her experience and impressive resume, the jobs she has found so far (and hasn’t even applied for) are way less than what she was making. She says that she can probably negotiate, but I’m not sure. Never in my life has my mom not had a job, and I still can’t believe it.

Another thing that worries me is that she spends a lot of time on the internet, social media, and having long, extensive conversations with her Google AI chatbot. I could be wrong, but I feel that she’s starting to slip into AI psychosis. She has also spent a lot of time going down random rabbit holes and looking into conspiracy theories on the internet. One particular thing she has spent a lot of time on is trying to solve the Nancy Guthrie case. She wrote this whole thing detailing her theories, and says that she discusses it on some true crime platform with other like minded people. I know this isn’t particularly harmful or bad. I know that everyone has hobbies and interests, but she bed rots all day and spends time on this instead of looking for a job.

About two years ago when I first started to notice something off with her, she began hanging out with a new group of friends. One of them she knew from networking events, and slowly over time began getting to know the others. I’ve met most of them and they’re nice, but some of the things they’ve gotten her into concern me. For example, she started vaping after she met them which she never did before.

She was never really a smoker, but apparently she started smoking cigarettes when hanging out with them and one of her friends got her a vape so she would stop. To be honest, I’d rather her smoke a cig with friends occasionally than vape all day long. She told me when I was younger that cigs always made her sick anytime she tried them, so it was never something she did on a regular basis. Just the occasional drunk cig.

In the middle of me writing this, my mom smoked the last cig from a pack I didn’t know she had. I knew that she bought a pack that’s hard to get in CA where we’re from. Apparently you can only buy them on sovereign land (in this case, a casino down the street from our house). She mentioned that she bought a pack recently for a friend of her’s, but I didn’t know she had her own. I was not expecting that.

My brother kind of already vaped, but started doing it more when she started doing it. For the last 2 years, she has been buying 2 vapes at a time, and sharing them with him. This started when he was 17. I just think it’s insane, but maybe I’m overthinking it. I refuse to get addicted to nicotine, so I don’t vape.

She recently went on a trip to Vegas with this group of friends, and she said they did shrooms. She also admitted to doing Molly somewhat recently as well. I knew she did this stuff in her 20s, but I didn’t know she was doing it at the age of 55. I know she’s an adult and not doing hard drugs, but combined with everything else, I find it concerning.

The friend she bought the cigarettes for is a nurse, and convinced my mom of some things that are kind of insane. For example, she told her that birth control gives off a negative pheromone to men, and causes women to attract bad male partners. Because of this, she tried to get me to remove my Nexplanon, but I refused. I did some research, and humans are unable to detect pheromones; only animals are. I’ve met this friend, and she is nice. I don’t mean to question what she knows given that she did go to school to become a nurse, but some of the things she says don’t sit right with me. She’s conservative too, which kind of concerns me as well.

The most concerning thing as of recently (like within the last few days) is how obsessed she has become with cybersecurity. It started when she began obsessively analyzing every single device that shown up in our Xfinity app. Our WiFi has been kind of slow, and she attributes it to devices that have previously connected but weren’t in our house at the moment. Examples include my brother’s girlfriend, friends, etc. My friend who works in IT explained that Xfinity is notorious for having devices that have connected previously show up in the app, but they’re not the reason our WiFi is slow.

She also keeps getting alerts from Xfinity that my phone has been visiting sketchy websites. I don’t recognize any of the domains, so they’re probably just apps and things running in the background. My friend explained that Xfinity is doing what it’s supposed to do, but it’s really nothing to worry about which is also what I figured. I will say that she did get a verification code that wasn’t requested by any of us, which is why she thinks our network is being hacked. It is strange, but I don’t want to jump to conclusions. She has changed the network name and password numerous times over the past year. At one point, she was convinced our neighbors were trying to hack into our network, but I don’t think that’s true.

Because my mom doesn’t have a job, she doesn’t have health insurance. My college health insurance ended when I graduated, and I got on to Medical. She tried to get on it, but because of her last paycheck, she said it would be really expensive since it goes off of income. I’ve been asking her to get therapy since before she quit her job and lost her insurance, but she wouldn’t. She finds it embarrassing and says that talking about her issues makes her feel worse. I did therapy for a while, and I felt like it helped me.

Even before she quit her job, I was concerned about other things. For example, one of our showers broke (the one that my brother and I share) over a year ago and she hasn’t gotten it fixed. We have home owner’s insurance, but she’s too embarrassed to have anyone come look at it because of how the house looks. She also doesn’t want our insurance to raise our rates or drop us. Since then, we’ve all been using her shower.

At one point, she was driving around without car insurance for over a year. Because my brother was on her insurance, he was too. Her insurance dropped her because she got too many speeding tickets, cellphone tickets, and had a few accidents on her record. She’s not the best driver tbh. She finally got some, but it took forever.

I’m no stranger to mental health struggles. I’ve been depressed since I was 15, and still struggle to this day. However, I went to therapy and I’m on medication. This might sound crazy, but I feel like the two of us are feeding off of each other’s depression. I have been more depressed since I got home and have seen how things are around here. I think things will be better for us once we both get jobs, but it hasn’t been easy.

Anyway, I’m sorry that this is long and all over the place. My mom won’t help herself, and I know I can’t force her to. I know I am an adult and am responsible for myself, however I don’t know what to do. I don’t think anyone in our family really sees what’s going on because they’re not close by. I don’t want to blame her group of friends, but that’s when I started noticing things taking a turn for the worst. I never imagined my mother would be unemployed, vaping, and bed rotting all day. Is there anything I can do?

Other I’m so bored with everything and I genuinely don’t know what to do with myself anymore.

Okay so this might sound kinda stupid considering the actual problems i see here but I genuinely dont know what to do with my life rn (not in a dramatic way, I just have absolutely nothing going on lmao).

I spend most of my time lying in bed because literally NOTHING sounds entertaining anymore. I used to enjoy playing games or doing something for five minutes and then leaving it because i realized im not good at it, but lately even those things feel boring. I wanna find a hobby or something to do on my computer, but every idea I come across sounds boring as hell

The worst part is that I feel like I’m not actually good at anything either. I don’t have a sport I’m passionate about, I’m not particularly good at art or music, and I don’t have any hobbies that make me feel like I have something of my own, if that makes sense. I used to do a lot of stuff when i was a kid. im going to english classes since im eight, used to go to swim, i went to the gym, did artistic gymnastics, took art classes, dance classes, i even did skateboarding, tried music production and some other stuff i cant remember right now. Im really frustrating because everything i do becomes boring ten minutes later and i realized i just wasted my time

I just want something I can genuinely enjoy doing, something that makes me wanna get out of bed and spend a few hours on it instead of scrolling or doing absolutely nothing.

I feel really frustrated specially when i see people my age (16) being passionate about stuff they like for example sports or drawing but when it comes to me i feel boring, because do absolutely nothing. I tried asking AI, watching tons of youtube videos even though i dont really like it because i dont like to watch movies or anything. everything is boring😭 I need advice on how to figure out what I enjoy doing and how to stop losing interest in everything so quickly. How do you find something youre passionate about when nothing seems interesting enough to keep you engaged?

Other There’s imposter syndrome but then there’s this feeling of having knowledge that maybe you should not have?

For example I did not grow up fat but I did end up athletic later in life only from extensive self guided research and trial and error never once did I play on a sports team and I really feel like I shouldn’t be treated like an authority on anything because I’m not formally trained to be this way I have no business looking like this i know no one in my circle who knows how this shits supposed to be done but people assume i know what im doing

Another example i grew up In a rural area and i had a MySpace when i was 14 got into scene and emo culture (a subculture that didnt exist in my town) I found a local boy who lived in a trailer park down the street his father was a biker and he dressed a little like the pictures id seen on the internet. I befriend him not knowing any better simply being attracted to his look, told me he’s a devil worshiper i thought hell yeah that’s pretty cool (I did not believe in the devil)
I turned 19 and I moved to the city head full of knowledge of ghost hunting and ancient texts

The city is very different ngl… i can’t seem to find anyone with even a remotely similar experience…

Mental Health Should I just turn myself in to the hospital?

So for context I am a 25 year old male in Georgia, United states. I am currently homeless and I have been homeless for almost a year. We are getting hit with a little bit of a hurricane that's passed by and it's been absolutely stressful to be out here. I sleep outside. I don't go to shelters because shelters aren't safe physically nor mentally.

So I've been outside and yesterday was pretty brutal. I couldn't really get any sleep because it just kept raining and it was super windy and cold. I was shivering for about half the night and even for some of the day today I was shivering as well. I still haven't fully recovered from last night, and while tonight is expected to not be as bad as last night, it's still going to rain and it's still going to be windy and cold.

Today I was given a little bit of Hope in getting into a hotel for a couple of nights, but unfortunately that fell through and I pretty much just spiraled and washed out because it just seems to be common practice that I get my hopes up on something. Today I was considering whether or not I should turn myself into the hospital and potentially be transferred to a crisis stabilization unit for a week but the thing is that at least in georgia, the hospitals are pretty bad.

The staff are just really rude and don't seem to have any compassion towards the patients. I've had some text come up and say that I'm being melodramatic and acting like a kid whenever I would get into a panic or anxiety attack. One time I was assaulted by a security guard because I was on my way to lunch since we got called and as I was walking through the door the security guard just blocked the door grabbed me and pushed me down for no reason apparently. Also the other patients make it just as unsafe since it's pretty common for at least a couple of them to talk about fighting other people, killing other people, sexually assaulting other people, etc. It is issues like that that I guess most people don't care about considering how often I'm told to go to a hospital because these are things that happen whenever I go to a hospital. But maybe peace of mind doesn't matter when you're in the hospital.

As far as outpatient goes, again, people tell me that outpatient will be set up for me but it won't because it constantly doesn't. I think it has to do with the fact that I don't have insurance and so whenever I'm told that outpatient will be set up I'll then be told on the day of my discharge that I don't really have any other options but to go back to the streets since I don't have insurance. It happens literally every time. I'll either be sent back to the library that I hang out around or I'll be sent to a shelter that I no longer am eligible to go to because you can't get in without a tuberculosis test. Plus that shelter sucked anyway one of the workers there called me a slur and I just wasn't able to look past that sense.

It's been tempting for me to go to the hospital because I've honestly really tired of sleeping outside and just being outside. It absolutely sucked and with the upcoming winter season there's a strong chance that I probably won't survive for much longer, especially if I'm feeling cold now, it's not going to get any better a couple months down the road.

With the weather today, I don't know what to do. I could go to the hospital and waste a few days there with no meaningful outpatient help. I could stay out here where I'm safer but still out in the elements. Not sure. What do you guys think because I'm really indecisive on this right now.

TL;DR: I'm homeless and experiencing harsh hurricane weather, and I'm unsure whether or not I should turn myself in to the hospital despite the chances of me getting help and feeling safe in the hospital being very low.

Medical Everything I eat, even BRAT diet items, makes me nauseous.

I've been having GI issues for a few years now but its been really bad for the last couple of months. I can't really eat anything anymore without extreme nausea, which is exaggerated by emetophobia. Even if I don't eat, I feel sick. If I eat anything BRAT (like bread, apple sauce, plain jello), I still feel sick. My quality of life is diminished because I can't even enjoy the foods I like anymore. I originally thought it was a lactose issue (which is fair, me and dairy don't always agree) but even on days where I was completely avoiding dairy, I still feel sick. Even drinking water doesn't sit right in my gut anymore. Chewing mint gum immediately after a meal does help a bit, but chewing gum does add air to my stomach. so I try to do it sparingly.

I don't throw up, I just get horrible diarrhea. Stomach issues range from discomfort to actual pain depending on the day. No other issues except for related+pre-existing anxiety (which isn't the explanation I shouldn't be feeling like this for this long)
I do see my doctor this friday, but I'm looking for some sort of answer in hopes of finding a specific topic to tackle with her to figure out what tests should be ran. Thanks in advance.

Mental Health How To Handle Family Members’ Drunken/High Exchanges?

I (44yo M) abhor conversations where a brother or mother or whoever is either high off gummies or drunk (hiccuping/not making sense with words and/or sentences and most definitely slurred speech) because it triggers me: during my high school years my mother every night turned into a different, mean, disdainful, bitter, resentful *expletive* where I leaned to avoid all contact with her after 7 PM any given night because she became “Mr. Hyde” and then, to top it all off, would not remember what was even said the night before or how awful she’d be towards me and my brother. I get deeply offended when someone is high or drunk and not self-aware and attempts to engage me in any kind of meaningful discourse — like, REALLY offended.

That said, my brother, who is a 48yo chaplain, either drunk texts/calls me at night, or midway through really great conversations, will all of the sudden not make sense and make things super weird and awkward for me and will ruin the conversation with his drunk-bombing. My other brother does this too but with weed gummies he takes.

Everyone always seems to not take this as deeply offensively as I do. How do I handle this with my brothers (who are 48yo and 60yo) (my mom’s passed away)? What do I say to them so they never do this to me again? Traditionally in the past I feel like if I ever say anything about this to them they either pan it, not care and keep doing it to me (my drinking chaplain brother has done this for 20 some off years — and we JUST started talking again 2 days ago after I went no contact with him/them for the past 10 years). I don’t want to spoil or rock the boat too much with the current loving reconnection we’ve had, but my chaplain brother has already drunk phoned me (called me 3 AM my time/12 midnight his time different time zone, which was really awkward and rude and careless of him, and he already switched on me toward the end of a really great, tearful momentous convo last night.

Am I being too sensitive? Please tell me what to say to both of them that will get them to be mindful and not do this to me again. I hate/loathe/abhor this kind of thing, but I value our reconnection above all else now. I want to preserve my dignity with this and put my foot down but lovingly. I’ve already expressed to my chaplain bother the other day via text that I dislike anyone drunk texting or drunk calling me and I asked that he make it right and fix it, but then he blocked me the rest of the day and then unblocked me yesterday when I just concentrated on love instead of these things which resulted in a really great phone call convo (which at the tail end of, he started to not make sense again). Ugh. Help please.. Anything constructive and helpful and experience-based would be greatly appreciated.

Career Seeking advice/objective view on my situation at work

I posted this to another community, sorry if you see multiples on your feed.

I (26F) started a new job about three months ago at a university, as a partnership coordinator. It is a new position in the department, meaning that the tasks I have now used to be done in different ways by maybe a dozen different people. Now that I'm here, I'm supposed to take all of those tasks from the people, figure out new ones, and systemize everything. And then do the job - find partnerships, nurture existing partnerships and think of ways to cooperate with businesses and alumni.

I hate it, and I can't be objective anymore and need help figuring out if this job is the problem, or if I am.

Why the job might be the problem:

I do have a direct supervisor, but we rarely ever meet cause our positions are not all that related, so I get tasks from different people and I keep getting conflicting ones. That part is annoying, but I go to the highest ranking person and ask them how it should be done, so I listen to them.

What's harder is receiving a task in a roundabout way, never directly, always "so what should be done is..." "I think we should do..." and these are almost always listed when we're in a meeting with multiple people, so I'm never sure what tasks are directed at me. When I figure that part out, I ask for clarifications because nothing is ever clear - most of the time I receive no clarifications. Real example - I need to fill in a date on a form when a website needs to be updated:

- What is the date?
- It should have been done yesterday.
- Yes, but I need a specific date.
- As soon as possible.

Why I might be the problem:

My past includes dropping out of one university after one month because I didn't think it was the right place for me; working an IT customer support job for 8 months; doing an internship in the sports sector for 9 months (contract); implementing an Erasmus+ youth project for 1 year (contract); graduating university in the creative field. What I mean by all of this is that I have never really stuck with anything truly long-term and I have been in different fields. Maybe that means that I'm just unable to stick with anything because I get bored of things that are the same, so I look for red flags to justify leaving? And maybe because I haven't really had a real full time job apart from the IT support I don't know that the situation I have described is normal in any job?

I cannot be objective and all my friends are split between "this job sucks quit now" and "this job sucks but stay until you find another one" and "stick it out, it'll harden you". What would you do?

Sorry if there are errors, my first language is not English.

Life Decisions 24F feeling very scared and nervous and anxious and unsure and stuck and

I 24F am currently studying in Australia a counselling post graduate degree. I will finish the degree next year but I feel so scared and nervous and anxious and stuck about where I will end up.

Ultimately, I want to move out of home. Ideally, somewhere abroad (anywhere really) or out of state for a reason like a having a job lined up or other exciting opportunities.

All of this feels unrealistic and impossible or maybe I’m just not patient. Things I feel I deserve or could’ve been lined up for me are still uncertain (regarding other things). All my job applications keep getting declined, I am so fatigued and too unmotivated to continue with uni convinced and plagued with why even try when it probably won’t even work out.

I realise I am a very envious person. I am jealous of my friends and strangers. I assume things about the greatness of their life and it makes me emotional because there has only probably been one time in my life I felt confident and beautiful and excited about things and that was when I studied abroad. Coming back from that I have never felt the same.

I dont think I am very smart, nor do I think I have tbe looks going on for me. I want to see my future and know if it’s even worth trying out or not. Which is not realistic so I’m looking for some kind of HOPECORE. Is it possible for me to move abroad after studying? How much money would I need? What about job opportunities in the field? Does anyone feel similar and have made it out? Or haven’t made it out really? Taking any advice!!!! Does it get better?

Interpersonal How to deal with family visiting

So my cousins and uncle came up for a visit for the weekend basically. Anytime my uncle's around they talk about a lot of stuff that makes me extremely upset (their very conservitive). Anyway my cousins I have no problem with, we get along, of course their way closer to my siblings but we definitely get along fine. It's really just my uncle I get upset with, because of the stuff he talks about beliefs wise, but also because he insults me, not as much as my aunt, but he still absolutely does.

For example, first day here, of course I already lost my appetite a little from the beliefs convo's I overheard(I wear headphones while everyones here because of the noise in general just being really loud and it makes me want to scream.)

Anyway at dinner, he was joking around. For some reason my family cares a lot about what I eat, cause a lot of the jokes and insults are about my food for some reason. I'm vegetarian which doesn't help, but like for example one time my aunt had made dinner(chicken) and I couldn't eat it so I just took the potato salad, and she started talking about how I need a balanced diet and is that all i'm going to eat.

And then later on made fun of me to someone else about me "Wanting to save the animals" anyway so this time my uncle joked that I always order dessert but never finish it, which like ok, kind of funny ig, but then later unrelated to food he said that if he had a seizure(as far as I know he's never had one, so it seemed to come out of nowhere) he said I would just stare at him and try to get my grandma's attention. Anyway, that really hurt my feelings.

Sorry if this came off as a ranty post, i'm really just asking for advice about how to surivive the visit, I literally had no way to avoid it and I don't know what to do.
