Just so you know, I’m a licensed vetnurse and every time we get one of these guys in the hospital, I always say the patient has homophobia in her eyes, and then giggle
My rescue we've had for like 10 years passed away just over a month ago and I was really beat up and wanting to post to talk to people about it, but taking a look it was all so much bot shit. It felt insincere having him in all that slop and I'd rage if I saw some bot post of him down the line.
To be honest, she also does normal cat things. I adopted her from an organisation that catches cats off the street. She is still uncertain of the world, but she is being taken care of very well. edit: i have had her for 2 years, she is approximately 5
Not to be one of those people- if the freckles in the eye are new in any way, they can (are not always!!!) be a sign of optical cancer in cats, especially light eyed/white fur cats. Have you mentioned it to your vet at all? It's usually asymptomatic asides from the freckles.
that's the exact same cat I have in my Minecraft world. I forget what the cat is actually called in game though, I know it's not the ragdoll though
edit: this cat, also made me realize the calico also has heterochromia when I looked at the wiki. I always forget that. and it's just the "white cat" lol
I can vouch for this, gramma's old white cat had 17, maybe 18, blue eyes and that dumb fluff was deaf as a post. Great cat, terrible mouser but hunted ghosts like a champ.
Historically, Van cats weren't fully white, and had patches of color (often times ginger) around their head and tail, sometimes on their back as well.
As far as I know, some people have been breeding them by mixing with fully white species over the years, hence why they look more and more like Khao Manee
The heterochromia isn't the thing that causes the deafness, it's the blue eye(s). White cats with non-blue eyes have about a 20% chance of deafness. White cats with a single blue eye have about a 40% chance. White cats with two blue eyes have somewhere around a 75% chance.
The exact odds are difficult to pin down. Also, the heterochromia cats may be more likely to be deaf in the ear of the blue eye side.
A while back, I saw a similar post about a cat with a single blue eye. I remarked that I have the same condition, and a redditor asked me if I was deaf on that side (blue eye). Yes, and I was bewildered as to how he could know. He said, cats with blues eyes (or a single blue eye) are deaf on that side, and he was surprised to notice this pattern in humans too.
FYI, I'm from India, so me having a blue eye (to brown eyed indian parents) is extremely rare.
I recall having a white cat with eyes like this when I was a kid and being told when they look like that they're deaf in one ear. I have no idea if that was true or where it came from.
Pure white cats tend to be deaf and sometimes also partially blind. Any animal that is a solid pure color tends to have genetic drawbacks and issues (except black cats those guys are tough).
For example, I’ve heard time and time again that pure white or black German shepherds have a lot of issues compared to the standard multicolored brown German Shepherd. For some reason the solid colors ones tend to be way more aggressive
yes, pure white cats with blue eyes (and without, to a lesser extent) are often (though not always) deaf. one of the genes responsible for melanin production is also responsible for hearing, so if something happens to that gene then both things are affected

That's called a Van cat, mainly beacuse they're from a place called Van in Turkey but also because you can't stop yourself putting all of ones on the street in your van to take them home
