STAR WARS Galactic Racer – full system freezes on CachyOS / NVIDIA RTX 3060
Has anyone managed to get Galactic Racer running reliably on Linux? The game keeps freezing my entire laptop after a few minutes, sometimes while still in the menus. I have to force a reboot. Other games work fine.
My setup: MSI Katana GF66 12UE, Intel i5-12450H, RTX 3060 Laptop (6 GB), 16 GB RAM, CachyOS with KDE Plasma Wayland.
What I've tried:
- Proton Hotfix, Experimental, Proton 10, 11.0-2 and Proton-CachyOS.
- NVIDIA 615.78.08 (open modules) and 580.178.04 (proprietary).
- CachyOS kernels 7.2.9 and LTS 6.18.55.
- NVIDIA GSP firmware enabled and disabled.
- Disabling the
scx_loaderscheduler. - Low graphics settings, 60 FPS cap, DLSS disabled and borderless fullscreen.
- Steam Overlay disabled and game files verified.
- Different launch parameters, including
-windowed,-borderless, resolution commands andVKD3D_DISABLE_EXTENSIONS=VK_NV_raw_access_chains. Some of these prevent the game from launching altogether.
Best result so far:
prime-run game-performance %command%
This lets me launch and play for a few minutes, but the whole system eventually freezes again.
I've checked the kernel and Proton logs. Earlier logs showed NVIDIA GPU memory-mapping errors, but recent freezes have no clear NVIDIA Xid or out-of-memory error.
The October 12 patch hasn't fixed it either.
Has anyone with similar hardware found a workaround?
