Social Sciences SOP advice

hi everyone! one of the programs i'm applying to for clinical psychology PhD programs requires a 400-500 word SOP. i was wondering if anyone has any advice for what to include! my issue rn is that i'm way over the word limit bc im trying to include so many things, so i was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the most important things. thank u!!

400-500 is tight, most clinical psych apps are easily double that length so you gotta be ruthless with what stays

cut anything that just summarizes your CV, they'll see your research experience and GPA in the other materials. focus on the specific questions about your research interests and why that program, and make sure every sentence is doing actual work connecting your past work to what you want to do there. if you're listing stuff you've done without tying it to a future direction or specific faculty match, it can probably go

how much space do u think i should spend on that program and faculty if the instructions say to include "current degree goals, reasons for selecting Clinical Psychology, interest areas, career plans,  why you are a good fit for the program, and how these all align with the Scientist-Practitioner Model"

You should have at least one sentence on the specific program/faculty and it should be directly linked to those parts (goals etc) from the instructions.
