Rebound adrenaline

Has anyone experienced a lot of adreneline and anxiety after quitting coffee? I mean after the initial detox phase and after the super tired phase. I quit on October 1st after tapering for 2 weeks. I was tired, then my energy came back and felt so good...then I started having these insane nights where I could barely sleep at all, just being flooded with adreneline, heart racing, for no reason?? Anyone??

Hit 1 year caffeine-free today!

Hit 1 year of being caffeine-free, so heres my post :)

The first week or two was rough. Headaches, low energy, and strong cravings, especially in the mornings. I almost gave in a few times. What helped was tracking it in a simple way instead of relying on willpower alone. It made it easier to keep going when motivation dipped.

A full year in and I notice much more stable energy throughout the day, better sleep, and a lot less of those afternoon energy crashes.

If you’re in the first few days or weeks right now, keep going. It does get easier!

Quitting Caffeine I'm quitting coffee this Saturday, October 17, and I don't want to do it alone.

The idea is simple: we all pick the same day. When you're on day 2 with a pounding headache and can't keep your eyes open at 3pm, everyone in the group is also on day 2. Same headache, same brain fog, same moment.

How it works:

  1. Comment "in" below (and how many cups a day you drink, if you want)

  2. I'll set up a small group chat and DM you the invite

  3. Between now and Saturday we get to know each other and prep

  4. On Saturday we all stop. Then we check in every day and help each other through the first weeks

If a lot of people join, I'll split us into smaller groups so nobody gets lost in the noise. Everyone still quits on the same day.

No experts here, just people who want to stop and would rather not white-knuckle it alone.

Who's in?

Caffeine-Free Chicory / Teeccino options - any options as bitter as strong coffee?

I just bought a bag of Teeccino in the Java / Medium Roast variety, and while it tastes good (sweetness), I am looking for a decaf coffee alternative that tastes as bitter as medium to dark coffee that is brewed strong, without any sweetness to it. The Teeccino doesn't seem to have any bitterness and is sweet instead. If it matters, I brewed the Teeccino using 1 tablespoon and a drip coffee maker.

I am looking into dandelion and other chicory based options, but so far most of the reviews say they aren't bitter, and some options are even sweet.

If any (ex-)coffee drinkers who like it strong / bitter could recommend an option, that would be appreciated, thanks.

“It should also be noted that, overall, Non-coffee drinking participants appear to benefit from lower impulsivity and emotional reactivity, better cognitive stability, reduced inflammation risk, more stable blood pressure, distinct and potentially healthier gut microbiota and metabolite profiles and avoidance of caffeine withdrawal symptoms. These advantages may stem from the absence of a stimulant such as caffeine, allowing for the preservation of endogenous neurophysiological rhythms and homeostatic regulatory mechanisms, thereby promoting greater stability in cognitive, metabolic, and immunological function.”

Caffeine-Free Need advice/help regarding ADHD

I completely stopped caffeine including decaf, chocolate etc 80 days ago cold turkey and have been suffering badly from withdrawal, I have definitely had some good days but they’re more like not feeling bad days rather than me feeling great but I do feel I’m slowly improving but it’s soul destroying when I wake up and out of nowhere I feel awful again. I have been diagnosed with ADHD and was probably using caffeine to self medicate without really realising it. I’m not on medication as I have had bad experiences with prescription meds in the past so caffeine was probably the only thing that was helping. It’s gotten to the stage now where I’m close to losing my job as I keep needing to take time off as I work in a warehouse which is a lot of heavy lifting every day and there’s no way I can do it when suffering from withdrawal and every time I think I’m through it I get another bad wave. I’m very close to caving and going back on caffeine as to be completely honest my life was much better when I was on it I even had a decaf coffee earlier today. I’m wondering if anyone else on here who also has ADHD and unmedicated has successfully stopped caffeine or as any advice for me. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Quitting Caffeine Energy more constant throughout the day

I drank coffee every day for ~20 years and stopped at the start of October.

I spent a day doing chores over the weekend and I was surprised at how constant my energy was throughout the day. I was able to start early and keep going until 9PM with a steady rhythm.

My usual experience with coffee is : hard to wake up, then drink coffee in bed to muster up the energy to do something, then do a task and after immediately feel the need to take a break. Maybe get another task in after the break, then an early end to the day as I'm too annoyed/anxious/tired to continue.

Anyway I thought it was interesting, not sure if placebo or real but it was nice to be able to get stuff done more "evenly".

When does it get better?

I (23M) had been drinking a 16 ounce cold brew everyday since I was 19, some days a bit more than that and sometimes a Celsius. I haven’t consumed any caffeine for about a month now and I still feel awful, always tired no matter how much I slept, mood is tanked. How long did it take all of you to feel better?

My baseline caffeine levels are apparently dangerous for normal people... But I don't know what I will do if I quit.

I drink 5 espressos a day, along with 2 coke zeros during my meals (1 L in total). I understand it's bad and all but my pulse, blood tests and blood pressure are fine. Yet people are pretty shocked when they see me have my 3rd coffee for the day. I just need constant stimulation, something to drink, something to do with my hands. I hate sitting still, I want to move but I don't know what I can replace coffee with. I quit alcohol and nicotine but caffeine is something that probably will keep me chained, since I've been drinking it for 16 years (since I was 12).

Issue is that quitting worries me. What will I do if I'm bored? How will I concentrate? What will I do if I can't go to a café, just stare at the wall?

Has anyone else experienced a caffeine overdose/ crash with a very long recovery?

I had WAY too much caffeine one night and had a pretty bad crash and felt really off for days. Six days later I made the mistake of thinking I was recovered enough to have caffeine again and I had one large soda, and I had a really bad anxiety episode and then what felt like withdrawals for weeks (I've had withdrawals from another substance before, so I know what they feel like).

I have seen a doctor, and followed up a few weeks later, so there's no medical emergency happening.

I'm still not fully recovered and it's been about 47 days since I had the large soda. I'm almost fully recovered, but I have some lingering effects. It's hard for me to find an instance of something like this happening to someone else. Idk, maybe my body is just weird. Whenever I look up stuff about caffeine withdrawal I never find an instance of it lasting this long. I'm not asking for medical advice or anything, I'm just curious if something similar happened to anyone else here.

Addicted and need help

What are the best ways to quit? I am working a manual labor job and dread quitting because I’m worried about getting through work. I know that in the long run it will give me more energy, better sleep etc, but is it best to quit cold turkey or taper it out? I’ve come to realize that it has effected me more than I want to admit (Sleep, finance, energy, health, looks) what has worked for everyone? Thank you ❤️
