How is Uber still in business?

Post image

Uber is the legal definition of bait and switch. So many advertisements for deals and messing with the numbers to make orders look reasonable and then falsifying what you’re actually saving and tacking on opaque fees… I don’t even pay for the premium membership but get it free from another source and it’s still not even close to worth it compared to just looking at store coupons and ordering delivery… How is this company in business when they get your orders wrong and miss items 90%+ of the time?

I think they're trying to stay in business by increasing the Other Fees.

Free delivery fee!

But then they tact on a service fee.

No service charge!

Suddenly there are “other fees”.

They are one of the slimiest companies I have ever had to deal with

These "other fees" are such bullshit. They didn't used to exist, and now they're just a convenient way to pad the numbers whenever a company wants to make a deal look better than it really is.

And yes, I'd absolutely call it bait and switch. The other day I saw a $3 Domino's pizza being advertised. No minimum spend, nothing in the ad that suggested otherwise. But when I actually selected it and went to check out, there was nearly $15 in "other fees" attached to a $3 item, and that's before the delivery fee was even added.

Someone needs to class action them...

Because Uber doesnt lose money ever. Businesses have to pay roughly 40k for the service per location yearly. They dont provide benefits for drivers. They dont lose money if an order has an issue the restaurant does. They make millions every month in memberships and contracts. Plus restaurant prices get higher roughly 60-120% through Uber eats and the scam “deals” they offer. My old restaurant would offer free fry on an offer over 25$ when the entrees were roughly 12$ so you’d need to buy something that costs way more than the fries to make the 25$ minimum. Ive never liked uber eats, why pay double or triple for delivery when the food is just going to be disgusting by the time you get it.

For real. It’s just better to grab it yourself. I understand many people are unable to do that, and I feel for them. Being forced to use this apps must be hell for some. Constantly dealing with the errors these companies make on the regular.

well this depends on location, California has more drivers than any other state obviously and they have to pay a quarterly health care stipend if you work a certain amount and are enrolled in a qualifying healthcare plan. They also insure you while you're active on an order, and prop 22 requires hourly wage and .37 cents a mile engaged time. Places like Seattle and New York City have adopted similar laws, and realistically the only way to improve working wages with uber is to do the same in your own states/cities.

Laziness of our population mainly

2

u/GoodOlDonnieRay 1d ago

or maybe the exhaustion of our population if we're going to shell out so much money for convenience and things we think may help us feel better

$8 in other fees is crazy. What’s also crazy is how little they give for offers, insane. Wanted me to drive an hour for $4.

They’re shafting from both ends. Squeezing as much as they can from the customers, and giving as little of that to the drivers as possible. Fuck these terrible companies.

It’s a valid question, but looking at the discounts - wouldn’t this likely still be cheaper than what the order would have cost at the actual restaurant? The total for the food before whatever promo was $23.85.

3

u/ShesGoing 1d ago

Well, let's start with ....THEY don't fulfill the orders.

3

u/hchn27 1d ago

Because you keep using it ….

Lazy humans. People who refuse to cook their own food or go grocery shopping. Humans who don’t budget well. Humans who are looking for a quick dopamine hit of treating themselves to food.

There’s enough of the people listed above to account for more profit than Uber probably needs.

I’ve used it before for delivery. Never again. Too many fuckups and headaches.

IF and WHEN I use it now, it’s only to do a pickup when it’s a restaurant who won’t take your order otherwise, meaning if I wanted that food I had no choice.

Otherwise fuck Uber.

2

u/SiLeNZ_ 1d ago

There are restaurants that won’t let you order unless it’s from Uber? Fuck, that sounds awful lmao.

5

u/EAM222 1d ago

Because you keep using it. Lol you’re even paying for a membership.

5

u/Correct_Ocelot5328 1d ago

Post says they get membership for free.

Theyre still placing an order while wondering how theyre in business.

They are also not accountable when their drivers cheat customers and make incorrect food deliveries. I say ‘cheat’ because despite me giving them evidence and waiting for over 3 days to resolve a simple issue, there is no accountability.

I have been their customer for a few years, but I am quitting them this week - after an incident where they refused to take responsibility over an incorrect delivery made by their driver in London. The driver also took away my order receipt to conceal his mistake - to avoid me from raising a complaint.

I have been a paid Uber One customer for several years, but the customer support is non existent, it takes them days to even respond back - so I am surprised how they can survive

Usually they overcharge if it's a franchise

Technically if you don't get it delivered and get pick up only and you use the buy one get one free

For example Popeyes (most common deal) buy one get one free plus a free item after spending 25 bucks....

You get ... 2x chicken sandwiches regular and spicy so you get 4 in total 7.99 for each.... 2x 3 piece of chicken combo making the total of 6 pieces 2 fries and 2 sodas...

Let's do a quick math ..

chicken sandwich regular spicy 7.99 x 2 = 15.98

3 piece combo 16.99 .... 15.98 + 16.99 = 32.97

Plus taxes which LA city I believe is 9.5..... 9.5 * 32.97 = 3.13 add that to 32.97 you get 36.10

The total is 36.10 ..... And you get 4 sandwiches 2 regular and 2 spicy .... Plus 2 combos so 6 pieces 2 fries and 2 sodas.... Plus sometimes they add the buy more than 25 bucks and get a free item so wtv item you get

Anyways for 36 bucks and you get a whole ass meal .... Pretty deal!!!! Sure maybe the app or somewhere might be cheaper but considering all the stuff you get for 36 bucks

Not bad at all ..... Thoe like I said PICK UP!!!! NOT DELIVERED...... Uber eats is only worth it for the pick ups if you know how to work around the buy one get one free promos

1

u/Individual-One-365 1d ago

Good question I use them to go to work when I can’t get a ride so

1

u/OddPollution7904 1d ago

because they don't operate using your money, they operate on loans and investors money who keep giving it to UBER based off promises that they'll see a ROI in the future and so long as they have people ordering, they'll continue to have investors.

1

u/swiftbursteli 1d ago

So the only way to actually stack these are the b1g1s that they heavily promote merchants do. They cut a lot of the promos from any extra promos, so that they can do just this. basically waive the fees.

If you're looking for a deal tho you'll have to fidn the merchants who have B1G1 in the title but NOT the offer panel.

1

u/Radiant-Major3752 1d ago

Yea its yo fault still paying for it bro they got down on me 1 time i uninstalled dat shit

1

u/MachineLrnr 1d ago

For me personally, there is nothing that motivates me to use uber eats besides “convenience”, and then I’m reminded that the food costs more, smaller portions, takes 100-200% longer to arrive, and arrives cold. Also, good luck dealing with their “support”. Nobody wins when we use Uber Eats…

1

u/sonarsar1 1d ago

Because it doesn’t actually cost that much

1

u/SoundOld7498 1d ago

They steal the drivers and the restaurants

1

u/Kristab814 1d ago

Well. Technically “they” don’t get your order wrong. The restaurant does.

1

u/Advanced-Bid-7760 1d ago

I’ve driven for Uber and DD for 3 years now. Have not ordered from them myself since pre-COVID lol

1

u/BigDoosh 1d ago

Bc u pay it

1

u/Imperfect-Pitch 1d ago

your order is under the $15 min, what do you expect

1

u/Oily-Affection1601 1d ago

Order minimum is based on pre-discount subtotal. He wouldn't had got free delivery with Uber One otherwise.

1

u/Effective_Outcome485 1d ago

They only pay the drivers $2 per delivery!!!!!!

2

u/maxrdlf95 1d ago

By paying drivers $1.5 or $2 per delivery 😈

1

u/Better_Payment_5831 1d ago

Hell I heard that there uber taxi purposely raises prices to what they believe there customer would for it.

I use it more often so the price was high and on my wife’s account which she barely uses was a lot cheaper

2

u/Oily-Affection1601 1d ago

My order is wrong maybe 5% of the time. What area is it 90%+?

1

u/Traditional-Share657 1d ago

Cause when it doesn't go wrong, it is super convenient.

1

u/Hypocrisydenied 21h ago

That doesn't even look that bad compared to some of the shit I see. It's not free to have a third party bring you food.

2

u/azoto69 18h ago

Nobody else gonna point out how it’s still $16.67 to have $23.85 worth of food delivered?

1

u/timmydnx2 18h ago

Nobody is making you use the service btw

1

u/sola_rpi 12h ago

Many peoples lives depend on it, as uber driver and ubereats driver. Their services are expensive but its ez to make quick money when I was unemployed

0

u/humonculus87 11h ago

Uh like a normal business stays around? People pay for their services? I know that was tough to think about but its true.

Uber eats can get expensive but I don't know what op is complaining about. You're essentially paying $6 in other fees. How is that a lot when you're not paying for the premium membership? What is a fair fee? $2? They pay us drivers just $2. If you want to pay no fees then get it yourself. Everyone wants convenience and not going out to get their food and not having to pay for it. That's crazy thinking. And if the order is wrong, that hasn't anything to do with Uber eats or the drivers

1

u/Usual_Bluejay_4477 6h ago

They have so much money that they can actually pay for your entire citys peoples total order
