USA Dog's last meal never delivered -- FUMING

Post image

My dog was diagnosed with lung cancer at the end of August and I have been providing palliative care for him since then. We went to a third vet yesterday and I had him on injectable opioids, thinking he would make it to our scheduled euthanasia date of this Saturday, the 19th. We had an awful night last night, and I called the vet to come today instead, ASAP.

I ordered him a big fat cheeseburger and cheese fries for his last meal--this dog lived to eat.

I live in a building with a 24/7 front desk that regularly receives deliveries so when the driver messaged me saying that they wouldn't let him up, I told him to leave it with the front desk. I was literally sobbing hysterically and in no condition to micromanage a driver.

When I finally got myself together and took my boy out for his last walk, I expected to pick up his burgers from the front desk. Surprise, nothing was there.

I am beyond furious through my grief about this. I worked in retail myself and I know service industry people are frequently abused. I tipped $10 on this $30 order because (obviously) it was SO important to me to get it on time.

My dog never got his cheeseburger. He passed away and I am having trouble articulating just how enraged I am. I don't know if there are words in any language that can describe just how upset I am.

Denis, I know you're not reading this but you made one of the worst days of my life even worse. Congratulations.

Edit: the front desk is manned by a dedicated staff that I know very well and they have worked here for years. This is also a huge residential building that has tons of food deliveries every day so it is very organized. No items are ever left out for grabs.

And yes the note said "this is my dog's last meal"

Hey all, another edit: I honestly don't think Denis stole the burgers, I mean who would eat a cheeseburger and cheese fries at 9am? They weren't even from a nice place--I just ordered because I thought it was cute that it was "Dog Haus" for my dog and they happened to be open. I think the more likely story is that he delivered them to the wrong address. I live in the heart of downtown Chicago and he probably delivered to another building. In any other situation, I would have a hard time caring less about a stupid cheeseburger. I am certain the front desk did not eat my cheeseburger because this building has over 700 apartments that order food in massive quantities daily. There's nothing so enticing about my $30 burger and fries that would inspire these folks to steal them.

I want you to know that Uber did escalate the case and refunded me and also gave me a future credit. I don't intend to use these because this was such a horrid experience, and I also never was much of a delivery person. To the person who said that I was too lazy to stop by the drive through, your reading comprehension sucks and I hope you have the same kind of empathy extended to you in your time of anguish.

And thank you all for your kind words. I miss my sweetheart so much I feel physically unwell, but I know I did everything medically possible for him and I did manage to get a breakfast sandwich and chocolate donut from Dunkin for him (plus a bison steak, pork chop, and half a pound of ham). He received his first injection in his bed while I hand-fed him these things, and he received the lethal injection with his head in my arms. It's really hard to "let their last day be a good one."

Choose your battles. You couldn’t provide this last meal, but your dog didn’t know about it, and regardless realizes the love of his owner I’m sure. You can be remorseful about the fact that you left your dog’s last meal to a delivery driver, but I recommend picking up the important things yourself in the future. Try and heal.

So ditch their dog in its last hours to pick up the stuff? That’s ridiculous.

That driver stole their food after getting a great tip. Even if it wasn’t the dog’s last meal, that driver would still be a bad person.

i’m not arguing good/bad. just move on with your life and don’t let an ubereats driver experience make you forget what’s most important, celebrating the life of your furry pal
