UK Uber Need To Be Stricter With Drivers
In sick to death of it. Someone accepts my order. It's there sitting and ready to be collected. He goes halfway around the city and back multiple times over before picking up my order, to go halfway around the city and back, stop at a house for 20 minutes before bringing my food stone cold. Sometimes this even happens with groceries containing temperature sensitive items like meat or dairy. I've had orders taken 3.5 hours and Uber won't reassign the order. And the driver never gets booted off the platform and does it all over again.
If you're one of the drivers that do this, you are the absolute worst. Uber need to be stricter with this and hand out instant bans the first time someone does this, and not allow them to just make endless new accounts

On the flip side of that, I’ve had times when I was picking up and delivering multiple orders but when you pick up someone’s food and go to make a different delivery first because that’s the order that the app makes you do it, the 2nd customer cancels their order because they claim you’re pulled over somewhere eating their food. They don’t know you have multiple stops to make and now you wasted time picking up food for a psychopath with ptsd. People are shitty on both sides of the app.

They aren't? I usually get texted within 5 minutes if I'm not headed toward the restaurant... and the order gets taken away if I'm not getting closer to the restaurant within the next 5 minutes.

Driver today was showing as at the store for an hour and a half while my app was saying "Picking up your order", mind you all the items were picked ready, I could see it in my app. And he was multi-apping because I was next up for delivery and he did about 4 laps around the city and kept turning his location off

Another thing that happens is restaurants will mark an order as ready for pickup when they are not ready. They have their own metrics. They need to meet with Uber and doordash. I've had so many times when I go to a restaurant with an order that's supposedly ready for pickup only to be told it's still being made.
If we get a stacked order we can't change the order it's given to us. Even if you thought you were up next for delivery, you can't see what other deliveries he's getting at the same time from the same app. Uber and doordash will stack orders without saying anything to the customer. They do this because orders with zero tip will be declined by all drivers, so they'll eventually merge it with a higher tipping order.
Now I'm not seeing what you said didn't happen, but many customers blame drivers for things that are out of the control.

u/Severe-Object6650 Sep 08 '26
Did you report the driver? The only way for this to stop is for customers to report this behavior.
-3
u/ThrowRA_Annonymous19 Sep 08 '26
They never do anything about the reports. I report them, Uber support says they're sorry. I end up getting assigned the same driver again a few days or weeks later.
2
u/Severe-Object6650 Sep 08 '26
So you did not report them? If a driver is reported enough, Uber will 100% do something about it. If people assume that Uber will do nothing, and don't report them, there is nothing to do.
-1
u/ThrowRA_Annonymous19 Sep 08 '26
I literally just said I report them. Every single time. I've reported the same driver at least 4 times and he's still driving for them under the same account.
4
u/YoungWhiteMamba Sep 08 '26
Made an additional request to be blocked from them. I thought they did that automatically with reports but if you’re blocked from them they won’t get assigned your order
0
u/ThrowRA_Annonymous19 Sep 08 '26
I have but they said they don't do that. Support is absolutely garbage
2
u/YoungWhiteMamba Sep 08 '26
They often give incorrect information. I PROMISE you just got one wrong answer. If you asked a different chat support person they would block them from your account 100%

u/ThrowRA_Annonymous19 Sep 08 '26
I'll try this today. I replied to someone's comment here with what's happened today 😅

u/YoungWhiteMamba Sep 08 '26
I’m a driver and I stay delivering in the same area and I always block people for various reasons. Confusing directions, steep/dangerous driveway (scraped bottom of my car) on a main road, etc etc — I’ve never been told they couldn’t ban me from someone nor have I ever delivered again to any of those people. It’s just a liability thing really lol
1
u/WhyWontThisWork Sep 08 '26
Where are you? Maybe there are no other drivers so your choice is them or nobody.
Seems strange you've gotten the same driver even twice
-1
u/StonerStashSkies Sep 08 '26
I agree, used to do uber until it got completely over ran by shit drivers. Had a few customers say I stole their order so switched to doordash. Havent had an issue since. Uber should just be deleted at this point saves you money but at what cost? Cold food? Aint worth it
2
u/DeliveryDestiny Sep 08 '26
Stacked orders are the problem. I don't accept them but many drivers do and Uber wants them to.
2
u/thisisliam89 Sep 08 '26
Uber is already strict with drivers. They're blamed and typically reprimanded for things that aren't their fault.
The app won't let them sit on an order for too long that isn't picked up before it's reassigned. Perhaps they're multi-apping because these platforms have become so greedy.
Many times vendors mark orders as ready before they actually are so they appear to be "on time" to Uber.
Perhaps you need to just go get your own stuff. People think they pay the minimum delivery fee with a minimum (or zero) tip and that gives them priority. You aren't the only one ordering stuff. Perhaps the driver was in the wrong, but the entitlement from this post wreaks.

u/kevink2170 Sep 08 '26
Uber can’t be more strict because they provide no benefits and pay $1.50 per order. This is the service they’re set up to provide with what they offer.

u/derek985 Sep 08 '26
Of all the delivery services available in my area, UE has the worst performance and this kind of thing happens with 75% of deliveries, oddly it happens more when ordering from restaurants closest to our house. So, we’ve given up on the UE platform. DD seems to have a much lower occurrence rate, maybe 5% at most.
1
u/EternalMayhem01 Sep 08 '26
That's because your order is in que. They keep driving past your pick up because they are going in the order they received them. If you have sensitive items such as dairy or meat, you can use the express option. If you want priority, you have to pay for it.

u/ThrowRA_Annonymous19 Sep 08 '26

Stop making excuses

Depending on how much you ordered, an hour at the grocery store doesn't sound wrong. Also remember it is your grocery store, you maybe able to shop fast because you have been there for years, but for that driver it could be their first time and they would have to navigate unfamiliar terrority.
Picking up your order now doesn't mean you are up next for delivery. If the app says you are next up for delivery means they are in progress of a delivery. Heading your way means they are on the way to you with no more stops. You are attacking drivers when you don't under the basics of the app.
Again, if you want priority, you need to pay for it.
1
u/ThrowRA_Annonymous19 Sep 08 '26
The driver doesn't pick the order. The shop picks the order and pings it as ready. The driver just needs to walk into the collection zone and pick it up. It's a 2 minute job. I'm not sure you're familiar with how this works here in the UK.
And also, yes I know exactly when I'm supposed to be next up for delivery because it will show the GPS route to my house. And if another stop is on the way, it will say. I am completely fine with not being the first on the list. What I'm not okay with is being next up for delivery and then a multi-apper doing 4 laps around the city on different apps before getting to me

u/therealknic21 Sep 08 '26
Actually for grocery, the driver can pick the order. I know this happens with DoorDash, Instacart, and UberEats. It could be different in the UK, but I doubt it.
1
u/ThrowRA_Annonymous19 Sep 08 '26
In the UK, delivery couriers are not allowed to pick the order or access the bags they're in. All bags have to be sealed by the restraunt or store so any tampering is clearly evident. Everything is done by restraunt and store staff

u/FirefighterOk3569 Sep 08 '26
Try tipping more, your items will magically appear faster you cheapo
1
u/ThrowRA_Annonymous19 Sep 08 '26
I've had this happen on a 30% tip order. Trust me, they don't care.

u/InterestingandStaged Sep 08 '26
This has been happening to me recently and it’s making me consider never using the service again. I ordered from a place less than 2 miles from me and the driver picked up my food, delivery in 7 minutes. All of a sudden, his status changes to “John has 3 stops to make before you” and now he’s 10 miles and 45 minutes away. My food never arrives and of course I have to wait the full delivery window for a refund.
10
u/Severe-Object6650 Sep 08 '26
sounds like Uber sent extra orders offers to the driver. That's on Uber, not the driver.
2
u/Other-Philosopher770 Sep 08 '26
All the more reason not to use it.
0
u/Severe-Object6650 Sep 08 '26
For sure ... it's so odd that this person says they are "considering never using the service again." Why would anyone keep using a service if their food doesn't arrive on time?
1
u/InterestingandStaged Sep 08 '26
I’ve used the service for years and it’s been fine except for the occasional issue here and there. There have been a couple of orders recently where the stacking seemed to occur after my order was on its way. If it’s a pattern, then yes, that will cause me to reconsider using it. Have you ever flown and your flight was delayed? Did you storm out of the airport and vow to never fly again? Life can be nuanced.

u/KaneinEncanto Sep 08 '26
Or most any gig delivery service... not like doordash does things differently...
1
u/DeliveryDestiny Sep 08 '26
Yes, Uber encourages this but the driver doesn't have to accept stacked orders. It is a choice.
1
u/Mega_Trix Sep 08 '26
Its not a choice, Uber dings drivers who do not accept every order they send, and its not a choice to keep making money. With the upkeep cost of driving these drivers barely make anything, especially since about half of these people ordering in Uber dont tip.
1
u/DeliveryDestiny Sep 08 '26
You choose to hit accept or decline. Nobody forces you to take stacked orders that pay like SHHHHHHH. I'm a driver. You can stop playing now.
4
u/Able_Canine Sep 08 '26
What I don't get is the "punish the driver" aspect of this post. If the app is telling you a driver has multiple stops before arriving, it's obviously routing that a driver likely has to follow per their contract.
1
u/ThrowRA_Annonymous19 Sep 08 '26
That was not my posts point at all. I am well aware that sometimes there are stops along the way, that's fine. These are not the times I'm complaining about
2
u/randymejia03 Sep 08 '26
If its sitting in the restaurant for long period of times, sorry but the driver maybe felt it wasn't worth the drive. Then only drivers that multiapp or do all that crazy stuff would pick it up because thats how they make there money. Multiapping low offer orders. And sadly sometimes even if you do tip uber most of the time hides the tip or a portion of the pay, so drivers might think order is not worth their drive or time.
1
u/ThrowRA_Annonymous19 Sep 08 '26
My order today was accepted by the driver. He drove to the supermarket, where he stayed for 1.5 hours. Mind you, this entire time, tha app said my order had been picked and is ready for pickup. Then when I was next up for delivery, he must've been multi-apping and did 4 laps around the whole city before coming to me
7
u/LunaticLK47 Sep 08 '26
UberEats driver here. The app dictates the route we take, so it isn’t like we can pick and choose where and when we make our stops.
2
u/InterestingandStaged Sep 08 '26
I realize drivers follow directions, but if that is the new Uber business model…to stack as many deliveries as possible on one driver AFTER saying “your food will be there in 7 minutes,” then that’s not going to be very successful for future business.
2
u/randymejia03 Sep 08 '26
Sadly uber don't want to pay. That's how they set people up. Give them bundled orders to make the lower offers deliverable with the bigger offers. Sucks but that is there business model.

That's why I try to only order food that can still be good reheated.
1
u/ThrowRA_Annonymous19 Sep 08 '26
Unfortunately I'm in a position where my car has broken down and I live on a massive hill with terrible public transport links. So I'm pretty much pushed into ordering my groceries online. I try to use supermarkets delivery services where I can, but sometimes I run out of something I really need and need to make a quick Uber Eats order.
0
u/sherwinjtb Sep 08 '26
If one driver is taking in so many pickups at a time, I would question where are all the other drivers? One hour is a long time to wait for an order. The driver doesn't care about satisfaction rate. It's on Uber to let this keep running. I can only guess that this driver is still running around because there's simply not enough drivers in your area.
0
u/Conscious_Dog3101 Sep 08 '26
That uber driver is likely on Lyft at the same time picking and dropping off a passenger or delivering on DoorDash.
I multi-app myself but don’t do orders simultaneously like I’m almost certain that driver was doing
0
u/barti_dog Sep 08 '26
I obviously can’t speak to your situation, but this may not be fully on the driver. I do drive from time-to-time for a little extra money and can tell you definitively that the app will send offers while I’m on an active delivery. If a driver accepts other offers, the app sets the order of pick up and delivery. In other words, UE is complicit in potentially sending your driver to multiple other locations before you.
0
u/KlutzyTrade9153 Sep 08 '26
as a driver let me educated you. so if you pay uber for priority it is mostly guaranteed to be clubbed to another non tipping order that has been stuck because it's not feasible to be picked up.
1
u/ThrowRA_Annonymous19 Sep 08 '26
You're missing the point of my post. These orders were accepted. The driver accepted and then took 3-4 hours to deliver. There is no excuse for an order taking that long. No matter how many extra orders Ubers slaps on at the same time

u/SamuraiLegion Sep 08 '26
Why are people so hopelessly dependent on delivery apps bringing food. A mere 10 years ago this would not an issue as food delivery was limited to Chinese and pizza places. Everyone was fine then and now people are addicted to this like a drug.
I don’t know OP’s situation but I just see so many people complaining about the service and it just makes me wonder why that they don’t just pick it up themselves.
