Why does it feel like all these posts are just a sales team trying to push this game?

26

u/Realsan 1h ago

I'm confused why there are so many people thinking this is some viral marketing stunt. The game is very good and is currently the top selling game on Steam. People can't show themselves having fun with a game without it being Disney's marketing team?

•

u/InquisitorMeow 11m ago

Buddy 99% of posts on reddits are bots, propaganda, and marketing and it isn't getting any better.

u/butterpog 5m ago

"99%" Source: "trust me bro"

Hyperbole is dead

1

u/TurmUrk 1h ago

I think people are just skeptical because it’s the first time there’s been hype for a racing game other than Forza in like a decade+

1

u/technobeeble 1h ago

Only if you haven't been paying attention to racing games

2

u/TurmUrk 55m ago

If you have to be tuned into to notice it’s not that much hype is it? I play a ton of niche indie racing games, they are not hyped.

0

u/ForgiveOX 59m ago

It’s both. It’s always both

9

u/Alastor3 2h ago

the game had 700k wishlist just on steam, they aren't making small video like this to "push" the game lol

13

u/madDarthvader2 3h ago

Can't people just show off the game they're having fun with

4

u/cutsnek 1h ago

People in the r/hotas community get pretty excited when we have a new game to play with. Whilst this doesn't have native HOTAS or HOSAS support there a lot of external tools to get around this. And this game works really well once set up. It feels super immersive. Linked is my setup and the 2nd image is the flight pedals I just finished building (won't be using them for this though)

u/pterodactyl_speller 1h ago

I can't believe this game does not have native hotas. Why do game devs hate joysticks?

1

u/cutsnek 1h ago

Because many devs aim for mass market (I get it). Which is primarily controllers and mouse + keyboard. Honestly, I'm very used to it. It does work really well once you map it with your controller emulator of choice.

u/Sluzhbenik 28m ago

Half of Reddit is literally this. It’s just marketing.

1

u/Obj3ctivePerspective 2h ago

You are VERY late to the party bud

1

u/bigsteve72 2h ago

I can honestly say I am not part of sales lol! Would certainly like to be. But this is just a dream come true I couldn't help but share.

1

u/ManggTangg 41m ago

They always show pod racing, they always play Sebulba, and the campaign has almost 0 pod racing.

1

u/Dead_Medic_13 32m ago

Racing games aren't about the story

•

u/ManggTangg 0m ago

This racing game is specifically about the story and it's rogue like campaign.

•

u/BoobooSmash31337 7m ago

Genuinely. Wat? Isn't it a remake of the pod racer games?

•

u/ManggTangg 1m ago

No it's a racing rogue like with a campaign.

1

u/HarambeTooSoon 47m ago

Didn't they make this game like 25 years ago?

1

u/Meloncov 40m ago

Star Wars: Galactic Racer, which came out this year, is a successor to Star Wars Episode I: Racer, which came out in 1999.

And most of the posts are like “The sense of speed is insane!!! Omfg!”

And i’m watching it like “looks like your typical racing game speed?” I’m guessing the only other racing game these people played was Mario Kart lmao.

5

u/NlghtmanCometh 1h ago

Sense of speed is a thing. People who play lots of racing games know about it. Some games don’t get it right (the newest Forza Motorsport was horrible with this). The Grid series probably has the best “sense of speed” of games I’ve played. Creating the sensation that you are ripping along at hundreds of MPH requires a lot of visual trickery.

1

u/Tyko_3 57m ago

Or just an FoV slider

1

u/BonkerBleedy 51m ago

The Burnout series gives a pretty good sense of speed imo. Complete zen experience as you become one with your machine, and then you smash some npcs into the wall and they explode in slow motion.

1

u/iwantdatpuss 25m ago

Which fits since the devs of Burnout also made Galactic Racer.

1

u/Alexandar516 38m ago

|| (the newest Forza Motorsport was horrible with this).
not only the newest one. I can safely say after playing 4 and 5 and its also as bad as 6

4

u/dericiouswon 51m ago

Honestly, no.

You must have not played many modern racing games, but Galactic Racer has hit on a certain feeling that's been feeling rare these days

3

u/scavengercat 59m ago

The sense of speed in this game is absolutely wild. I've been a racing fan for decades and no game feels half as fast as this. It's a big selling feature - you can't be making these endless jerky adjustments. You have to figure out how to do it very smooth and calm in order to deal with the speed. It's hard to get in that frame of mind and when you do, this is the most satisfying racing game I've ever played.

It really is that different. I've played 50 or more. Nothing compares. I'm not paid to say that, it's just nuts to experience.

1

u/SensibleCircle 1h ago

It might be because youre normally racing much slower vehicles through majority of the game, but the pods feel fucking fast.

1

u/themysticalwarlock 47m ago

level 15 skim speeder with maxed out acceleration and ramjet and cornering feels like a podracer, you fly around corners so fast you can drift without using the button

1

u/vinnymendoza09 1h ago

You're going off a video that has an extremely narrow FOV

-2

u/Patient_Umpire_8507 2h ago

i have no idea what game this is but yeah this looks incredibly tame. i feel like i would be bored within 5 mins. and i absolutely loved pod racing, possibly my favorite part of all of star wars

1

u/bauul 1h ago

It's a new racing game set in the Star Wars universe that's getting a lot of good reviews, as it's basically Burnout (it's made by many of the same devs).

0

u/BudgetMenu 1h ago

i do sim racing and honestly they feel pretty slow comparatively

1

u/Significant_Quit_674 1h ago

Looks like only 200-250 km/h

-2

u/Shnitzel_von_S 1h ago

The sense of speed in this game has NOTHING on 200cc

1

u/Cleave 1h ago

Podracing is basically 200cc

-1

u/Shnitzel_von_S 1h ago

Pod racing? Snore city. See you on Mario Circuit 3 200cc to get your ass kicked

-5

u/wookieebastard 3h ago

I'm getting the same vibe.

Looks more like a tech demo than a proper game.

5

u/bigsteve72 2h ago

I can assure you it's very much a proper game. In all seriousness; my brother is the one playing in the clip. Stayed over about 4 hours to chill and try it out. 2 of those hours consisted of about 10 "ah I could do one more race" lmao. It's genuinely a fantastic game!

7

u/Madzookeeper 3h ago

Having played it, you're very, very wrong. It's a lot of fun and one of the better arcade style racers to fine out in a long time. Not even remotely a tech demo.

4

u/_Cromwell_ Sabine Wren 2h ago

Pretty easy to check the metacritic to see if it is legit or a "tech demo."

https://www.metacritic.com/game/star-wars-galactic-racer/

-2

u/wookieebastard 2h ago

You did not understand my comment.

I know it's a legit game. But these flood of posts lately feel like they're demoing the game saying it's super fast, the speed is awesome, and so on.

2

u/TurmUrk 1h ago

It’s a well done single player racing game. The roguelight elements and build crafting is novel for the genre, as someone who grew up loving arcade racing games like burnout, need for speed, and the Star Wars racer games this mixes a lot of the best elements of them. It is fast, racing the bikes/cars/skimmers is basically allowing you to learn the tracks at a reasonable speed because I don’t think most people could do the podracing with the precision and speed it requires without knowing the track layouts ahead of time. It’s just good.

1

u/davidagnome 51m ago

Those are literally my favorite parts of Episode 1 racer. This and that uses every trick possible.

It’s like complaining that people want a fast Sonic game or a Mario game with cool suits/powers.

0

u/plusminusequals 1h ago

F’real. I played this game back on N64.

-3

u/Sine_Habitus 2h ago

Disney is CRAZY good at viral marketing, so you may be seeing the truth. It's working on me though 😅

-3

u/Smooth-Difficulty178 1h ago

And most of these posts show pod racing, when the game basically has no pod racing but only speeders and bikes. I purchased and refunded it for that reason. Super disappointed.

4

u/GunShowZero 1h ago

…you didn’t play very much of it, did you? Hahaha

1

u/TurmUrk 1h ago

To be fair the first two acts are very light on podracing, that’s like 3+ hours of play if you win both routes first try, more if you’re struggling not complaining, I like the game a lot

1

u/Born-Entrepreneur 1h ago

To be inside the refund window, probably didn't get that far in to it lol

1

u/montxogandia 1h ago

we are a lot of people with simracing/flight setups, with full cockpits and VR/triples/ultrawide, these people are very used to config things and use tools for anything, podracing is an obvious attraction to use all your sim hardware.

-4

u/Remcin 1h ago

Yeah, it looks good and reviews/podcasts I’ve… ingested, make it sound like a really fun game. But I really feel like this is the beginning of the AI marketing takeover. One by one, everything looks legit, but collectively it feels fishy.

3

u/Half-Truism08 1h ago

Hmm. Thats interesting. But honestly I think this could be AI paranoia. The game IS very good and super fun, and it feels like it came out of nowhere. Like, I’m not really a racing fan or a Star Wars fan. But I heard a little bit about it and watched a little bit of it and was captivated. And it turns out it really is lovely.

I think there are a lot of people like me, and a good portion of us are chatting about it online. But I get it, it’s even harder to trust anything online anymore.

1

u/Remcin 59m ago

That is the other side of the coin. It’s like 55/45 leaning marketing, mostly because this hype cycle stuff seems to be becoming more and more consistent. Reddit just feels more predictable, or something like that. Like people worked out how to game it even more than they always have. Also why is this the only thing OP has posted in 12 years, and most of their comments are just replies to this one thing?

0

u/cutsnek 1h ago

I get it and I do wonder if this will have the same fate as Starwars Squadrons which was another game that dropped out of nowhere that I enjoyed. I'm enjoying this for what it is, however it will die if there is no content updates.

2

u/TurmUrk 1h ago

The single player is a lot more in depth and replayable than squadrons at least, it’s a roguelight so you get more variety than average for a racing game

1

u/cutsnek 1h ago

Yes, I'm enjoying it a lot. Just pointing out if there is little content update I do fear it will be another flash in the pan game. But I am enjoying the roguelight racing element a lot.

1

u/TurmUrk 1h ago

I think the need for every game to be a forever game is a mind virus. If I play this for 40+ hours I’ve gotten my moneys worth, and I could see playing it more. That so many people see a cool game and think “I couldn’t play this game forever as a lifestyle” and use that as a mark against it irks me.

1

u/cutsnek 58m ago

I'm cool with that. I got my value out of squadrons as well. Was a blast with HOSAS and VR. Nothing has even come close.

1

u/crom3ll 1h ago

I only watch reviews from a handful of trusted sources and they were all positive for this game. And these guys are definitely not AI.

But I think it's not wrong to be suspicious these days.

1

u/Remcin 57m ago

I’m right there with you, I genuinely thing this game looks fun. I loved the old pod racing game so much I recently downloaded a ROM and it still holds up. But if any one company is gonna pull of next-level marketing it’s Disney. They have more money than God and own most media.

0

u/North_Tip_3364 1h ago

Did you hear about mindset devs paid redditors to post fake positive posts on mindset and even post random comments to convince people they were about to play a generational game

-1

u/onetaxi 1h ago

yea i'm looking at ts like.. it's totally believable? not really seeing the "unbelievable" part

-1

u/peoplepersonmanguy 1h ago

I reckon I'd play it once and then not pick it up again.

1

u/TurmUrk 1h ago

It’s a roguelight so sporadic play sessions actually could make sense if it hooks you, I could easily see myself still hopping on to do a run even once I’ve cleared the story/progression

-2

u/sentiment-acide 2h ago

Lol it doesnt even look like youre in the cockpit only the vehicle body is moving not the camera this looks so dumb

-3

u/SailorGone 1h ago

Because it is
