Secret Tech We just hip 50k visits/week! Thank you to everyone keeping this community alive!

  • Edit: hit* in the title.

Hey Brewers,

I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for coming together and helping each other out when brewing decks. All of the decklists, recommendations, good spirits, and discussion around card choice and the human touch keeps me going. I know this post isnt about deckbuilding per se, but it is a thank you to all the brewers and big brained deckmasters who help out the newbies, and encourage others to build.

I am thankful every day we keep this community going, and ill still do my best to help keep this sub the way it is intended: for deck help, secret tech, card and rule discussions, and everything pertaining to deck building and editing.

And to keep in line with the subreddit rules, whats is your favorite pet card, and what deck is it in?

Thank you! - Tbonerizzle

Curent update: 3/30/22

EDIT: *This is an evolving document and not set in stone. Lets build this doc together just like we would a deck.

Hey over 1000 people (Thank you for making this possible!) who like to do deep dives on EDH decks online, I created this sub in hopes to have expert deck builders here to have an involved discussion on decks. This is a deck building sub similar to r/jankEDH, but should encapsulate more than just janky cards. This is more of a strategy restriction sub.

There are mild rules for posting here, and I have a list of rules posted now (if there are some you could offer, comment below and let's have a discussion). We should be clear on what should be posted here, and what should not:

Okay:

  1. An EDH deck list from any deck building website that supports external links, and asking for help taking out staple cards for more synergistic pieces for better deck varience. This will involve high level discussions about card quality in the deck, as well as poor card quality in terms of general sameness. Be sure to put in your post what your gameplay is, and already have some cards you are considering taking out to help start the conversation.

  2. Secret tech threads are encouraged, but should have context and a deck list involved. The reason I say this is because there are some super powerful overperforming cards that no one knows about but usually they fit into a deck which synergizes with it and we need some context. This might spark some discussion on that secret tech and new brews can spawn from it.

  3. Deck idea discussions based around strategy, archetype, or other restriction(s) you would like to build around. Please post a few cards yourself as your inspiration on what you want to build, and discuss the direction you want to take.

Not okay:

  1. Deck help threads with a basic "what should I take out, and what should go in?" These offer nothing but people saying "take out your jank and put this staple card in instead", or "Use EDHrec". This offers no constructive feedback and seldom sparks brainstorming conversation.

  2. Unfocused conversations and making general threads on a commander without any deckbuilding restriction (This also extends to not offering any cards that inspired the deck for you. Why would you ask another person to buy into your deck idea if you aren't bought in yourself?).

  3. Any post that is not deck building related (Rule 0 convos, playgroup problems, AITA type threads, LGS posts, Drama posts) is Prohibited. This now includes advertising.

  4. Any post disrespecting another Redditor or community (No racism or sexism) will be removed.

  5. Posting about any custom magic cards or building custom magic decks with cards that are mechanically unique custom made cards are not allowed. Please go to r/custommagic to talk about and craft with these cards.

UPDATE (3/11/22): We now have card fetcher support! Time to double bracket again!

Update (3/22/22): Advertising is prohibited. (Please do not post a link to your YT video.)

I hope this helps, and I will be creating flair for the sub as it evolves. Thanks for stopping by, and happy brewing!

I’m starting with this precon and have only added a few cards, [[Mass Polymorph]], [[Polymorph]] and [[Aetherize]]. What else should I add/remove?

Deck Discussion How about every single Jace in a deck?

Just a silly deck idea I had since playing the Reality Fracture precon and looking at [[Jace, Reality Sculptor]]. Now that I've got a decklist together it seems surprisingly playable. I still want to upgrade the lands but what are your thoughts?

Deck Idea Need the experience of people for building Azula... no, not that Azula.

I have a shmall problem. When I searched Moxfield for primers to use as a base (the way I always do), I am not finding convincing lists.

Do people have experience building this as a theft commander? Is it possible to build this for a solid, middle of the ground BR3? I purposefully avoided top picks and went down EDHREC's list to find this one.

Picked Azula mainly because of that gorgeous art.

Deck Idea Looking for interesting, Bracket 3 appropriate, ideas for a Chun-Li deck

Post image
70 Upvotes

As a fan of both Magic and fighting games, I've been wanting to build Chun-Li for the longest time.

I tried a prowess build, where I play creatures with prowess and reuse things like cantrips with Chun's ability. But it felt either very clunky, or completely unstoppable (mainly in games when I had [[Monastery Mentor]]).

I also tried a more general spellslinger build with payoffs like [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] and [[Sentinel Tower]], but I didn't find it super satisfying either.

Other ideas I've seen online are blink, voltron, and control. But none of these seem particularly fun to me either.

So I've come here to ask for ideas! What are some creative usages for a commander that lets me reuse instants?

Any and all ideas are welcome!

Deck Idea Help me make an noble rabbits deck where they make deals with demons to keep the status quo

Post image

I want to build an [[eirdu]] / [[hare apparent]] deck, probably without focusing much on the isilu side. The story is about rabbits that ascended to nobility and will now do anything to stay in power. They won't hesitate to appeal to demons or even sacrifice their own kind to achieve their goals.

Thanks

Deck Discussion Been out of the game a few years..

Post image

Hey All! I used to play a good bit of commander with my brother and a few friends but have fallen off the wagon after COVID. Last month for some reason I started getting MTG content all over my YouTube and Instagram and I've really got the bug again. So I texted my brother to see if he was interested in playing again and got to work on a deck list. I'll be honest and say historically I don't make the most thought out decks, they end up being a little unfocused. That's why I want some experts to take a look at my deck list and see if I've made something decent.

https://moxfield.com/decks/WpUP8oHzGEuMi8GQ0RfrJw

I've got a few things in my considering pile that would obviously turn the deck up quite a bit like rhystic study but I'm trying to hold off on the $75 cards until I'm confident I like playing this deck. Does this look like it's worth putting together to you guys??

Deck Discussion Cool Dino Deck Ideas anyone ?

I love Dinos but I don't enjoy the sort of go wide beat face Gameplay of Dino Decks :(

I ve tried making Gishath work for me, but to me that deck just feels like a Coin Flipping Simulator.

I enjoy Control Decks more than anything my Favorite Deck is a mono Blue Ojer Pakpatiq Deck with like 35 removal Spells. My second favorite is an Azorious Deck build around astral slide. I wish I could combine the two into like a Draw go Control Dino list ?

Soo I am looking for some Inspiration right now :)

If yall have any brews with Dinos like that I'd love to hear about em :)

Help me make this deck B3 viable! Toph is at the helm of this instant/sorcery spells only deck. The idea is to ramp big, chain spells, and animate lands tall and wide for the kill. Looking for recommendations.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Currently I believe it’s a really funny high bracket 3 deck; maybe entry level 4?

Deck Discussion Tifa, Bracket 3? Need help

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey, I'm really really bad at building quicker B3 decks. I've tried many times, but I feel like my decks never really hit that sweet spot of a strong B3 deck when I sit down at the table.

I throw this together and wanted to check if I'm on the right track? It's just punching people with combat and hopefully running enough draw, ramp, and interaction to win reasonably.

Deck Discussion Been working on a mono-black reanimation package for EDH. Turns out death is optional

Been putting together a few mono black packages for Commander in Moxfield, and this time I went with reanimation, one of my fav. archetypes in EDH

It's a mix of the usual staples, some personal favorites, and a few less obvious picks I've come across while playing black over the years.

I also wrote a primer explaining the different cathegories, how they work together, and why I picked them. Obviously this is based on my own experience, and every pod is its own little universe, so your opinions may vary xD.

Anyway, figured I'd share it here in case anyone's brewing something graveyard related. Curious what you guys like running, or if there's any weird tech I've missed!

Deck Discussion Vren Stax Help for Bracket 4

I play Vren. I like the duder and I think it's cute, yet oppressive in many ways.

I'm struggling keeping up in a bracket 4 game when many of the strategies are combo, yet the way the deck works is to deny creature based strategies. I figured that some sort of slowing down the game may work in order to give me time to build up the rats--that led me to trying some stax effects as even combo based decks at least play some creatures. Most of these are just forced sac which goes along with the theme so it seems to work.

Let me know your thoughts on whether this idea would work at all, or whether you would make any changes. Deck lists below in both Archedekt and Moxfield. <3

Deck Discussion Building a Kynaios and Tiro deck that gives opponents creature tokens

Thumbnail

Hey y'all,

I'm in the process of building this Kynaios and Tiro deck for a weekend trip I have with my friends where we are just gonna play a bunch of Magic. I wanted to bring a fun and interactive deck that involves giving my opponents a bunch of creature tokens and making them swing out on each other and just sitting back and laughing.

I really need some help with the balance of the types of cards I need to have a synergistic deck. I'm also trying to take it to a bracket 3 sort of deck, and hopefully keep everything really budget if possible. ($100? $150?)

Will anyone out there in the land help me balance this deck out?

My first thought for it is that maybe I have too much ramp. I understand it's necessary to even get my commander out there, but I feel like once the commander is down, they are a significant source of ramp.

Anyone willing to help me out? This deck has been my brainchild for a while and I just wanted to build something unique and fun..

Deck Idea Who to build next on a budget for a b3 table? ($50-100ish)

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

I have all 3 cards and am looking to build on a budget between $50-100, with a couple pricier cards that I already own which can help, plus I already have most artifact staples too.

Which would be the most fun for a b3 table. I typically play every week with my best friends and would have to break through a little pillowfort & some stompy timmy decks. My main thing is being resilient. When I pull shenanigans even if it's not the most impactful I get targeted, so being able to recover or protect is important.

Most importantly...what is the most fun of these? Thanks!!
