Hi hi, r/AdoptMeRBX! I am here today with both good and/or bad news, really depends on your perspective of things.
It’s been known among members of the community, especially those who keep up with subreddit announcements and moderator applications, that we have been severely understaffed for an extended amount of time now.
Originally, I was hoping that the applications I posted about a month ago were going to bring in a larger batch of trainees that could help the already stressed and unavailable team. However, that unfortunately did not happen, and we have had a severe decrease in applicant numbers compared to previous application seasons.
Due to this, we are unable to properly cultivate a batch of trainees (a batch is typically 3-6 trainees in size) to help us moderate r/AdoptMeRBX and continue to improve the community for those that participate.
With all this in mind, the moderation team has chosen to temporarily restrict r/AdoptMeRBX while pushing applications really hard, in hopes that we can get more help and ensure that we don’t overwork the current team.
… … …
The Restriction
Subreddit restrictions are utilized for a variety of different reasons, but they all work relatively simply.
r/AdoptMeRBX will be under restriction for a week before Reddit automatically lifts it. A few posts will slip in between that time before we either choose to re-restrict it, or until you see a pinned moderator post welcoming new trainees.
On a personal note, I really hope that we don’t have to restrict r/AdoptMeRBX for longer than a week. I just don’t think it’s fair to give you guys a large and active subreddit that isn’t properly moderated right now. It is unfair to users who are breaking rules, users that aren’t, and overworked moderators. Not a fun time for anyone!
If you try to post as an “unapproved user”, you will get a pop-up asking you to Mod Mail if you believe there’s an issue with posting. If you get this pop-up, we will not be approving anyone, even if you Mod Mail us.
The only two groups of people that will be permitted to post are moderators and verified Uplift staff. Moderators are automatically given a bypass by Reddit to post, in which we’ll use this to refresh Megathreads every week until we are ready to lift the restriction.
Once an Uplift staff verifies themselves in Mod Mail, they are granted the unique “Uplift Staff” user flair and are granted the “approved user” permissions. Uplift staff are the only people who are granted these permissions on r/AdoptMeRBX - which means they can bypass the posting restriction.
No comments from anyone will be restricted under any post. This restriction only prevents posting.

The Plan
If you’ve applied in the past or moderated with us before, you are likely aware that moderating r/AdoptMeRBX is a purely volunteer “job”.
All of our moderators are currently either students, are employed, or both, which makes many of us unavailable between September - December while many experience exams, semester finals, among other things that require us to focus more on academics than moderating.
In light of this, more than half of the ten available moderators of r/AdoptMeRBX are focusing on academics and/or their jobs, which has left an average of 1-3 people to moderate an incredibly active community with over 80,000 members.
As the owner of the subreddit, I believe it is extremely unfair to those who are available to moderate that much and try to compensate in their activity for others who aren’t available. This has taken quite a toll on mental health and general motivation to not retire from moderating, and I do not want to promote an oppressing atmosphere regardless if you are a community member or moderator.
With this all in mind, I made an announcement asking the moderation team whether or not they would like to restrict r/AdoptMeRBX temporarily. A temporary restriction would give us time to catch up on moderating posts, comments, replying to Mod Mails, all while not constantly receiving new ones to look over. This would also generally give everyone a breather from moderation, regardless if they’re even available to moderate or not. I have seen how incredibly stressing it is to those who aren’t available to help when dealing with the feeling of responsibility to sit down and moderate content when they should be doing something far more important (eg. studying, schoolwork, working, etc).
It was essentially a unanimous agreement to restrict the subreddit. Therefore, I am choosing to restrict r/AdoptMeRBX for the time being.
I hope that all post redirects don’t bombard other subreddits, as I know that all Adopt Me! subreddits have generally been experiencing very low availability from moderators along with low interest from those who are not currently moderators.
In the meantime, r/AdoptMeRBX will function solely on weekly Megathreads until we receive a batch large enough of trainees. I am hoping to unrestrict r/AdoptMeRBX once we have 4-6+ applicants that meet our requirements to moderate and understand our rule system well enough.

Moderator Applications
An extension of our applications has already been made public about a week ago, however, we still haven’t received many more applications even with an extension.
With my decision of only lifting the subreddit restriction until we have enough trainees for a large batch, applications will be extended indefinitely. This means that the October 12th [PDT] deadline is no longer accurate.
If you are interested in reading the extension post, please do so here:

If you are interested in moderating and have not applied already, consider reading our application post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AdoptMeRBX/s/s3EELnWVxu
Please note that we will not consider applicants that do not meet the set requirements. The requirements we expect applicants to meet are listed in the post itself along with the actual application form.
If you have already applied during this season of applications, we see you, and we really appreciate you taking the time to apply! We sincerely apologize for how prolonged this season has been, and we are hoping to announce our new trainees as soon as possible. There have simply not been enough of you guys to have an actual batch of trainees.

Megathreads Links & Other Redirects
Assuming that r/AdoptMeRBX will be post-restricted for longer than a week, all Megathreads will be reposted every week to ensure that comment clutter is not a problem.
You will see each Megathread listed under a separate week. Megathreads posted in the first week of restriction will be labeled as such. If we get to a second week of restriction, they will be separated and labeled differently from week one posts
The most recent week will be listed first.
