Photo When he comes over thinking we’re about to get freaky, but I spend 45 minutes explaining my tea collection instead.

Um… hey. Do you like… want an extra girlfriend? This is the most beautiful tea presentation I’ve ever seen. I’ll share my tea with you, I promise.
Joking aside, this is pure aesthetic and I love it.

u/Delusionally-Vibrant Jun 19 '26
I'd also like to know about the extra girlfriend situation ?

u/maesardsara Jun 19 '26

I have a suggestion for you! We store spices and tea in mason jars. My wife bought a Mason Genie (I have no affiliation with the company). It pumps the air out of the jar and vacuum seals the lid. It is amazing for storing things and keeping them fresh. It looks like something you might appreciate!

u/TheDarbiter Jun 19 '26
Do you mix various jars to create your tea?
74
u/Lil_Nutmeg23 Jun 19 '26
I do! I’ll make different blends depending on what I feel like I need or what time of the day it is. It makes me feel like an ancient wizard haha
10
u/TheDarbiter Jun 19 '26
That’s so awesome! How did you go about learning how to do this?
28
u/Lil_Nutmeg23 Jun 19 '26
Mainly through YouTube and books, r/herbalism is also great. The Encyclopaedia of Herbal Medicine and the Modern Herbal Dispensatory have been really useful resources for me

wow i love this! where is your cabinet from 😊?
32
u/Lil_Nutmeg23 Jun 19 '26
Thank you! It’s actually meant to be a shoe cabinet, I will link it below. I’m based in Australia so this is from Temple & Webster. If you’re outside of Aus maybe try reverse google image searching and there may be a supplier!

u/Sweetpotato3000 Jun 19 '26
Serious question but how long does tea like this last?
12
u/Lil_Nutmeg23 Jun 19 '26
Good question! Leafy herbs and flowers will typically last 1-2 years, roots, barks and spices like clove and cardamom last about 2-4 years as long as their not in direct sunlight and in mostly airtight glass jars. I have become a bit of a bootleg community herbalist so I’m constantly making friends different blends for their ailments and I go through most of it fairly regularly. I will say the herbs don’t become unsafe, but their vibrancy, aroma and medicinal benefits decline over long periods of time

u/how-unfortunate Jun 19 '26
You spent 45 minutes breaking down your Teapot Witch apothecary cabinet.
This is not intended as an insult, your supply is impressive, and well stocked with plenty of medicinal plants.

u/EvLokadottr Jun 19 '26
See, I'm a matcha snob, being a student of tea ceremony, and I found me a long-leaf tea snob, so we can be pedantic and snobby about tea together and still discover new things.

Don’t get me wrong, I love it and I see a lot of good additives to my tea. I wholeheartedly support what you are doing.
But where is the tea? If your tea collection is just as impressive with a variety of loose leaf teas, you are the catch of the century.
Best wishes on this summer solstice eve.

u/Nevernonethewiser Jun 19 '26
It's all tea. Herbal infusions are tea. Coffee is tea.
Hell, river rocks boiled in an old metal fishing tackle box is tea.
2
u/lizardguts Jun 20 '26
After it is boiled in water it is tea. Otherwise it is just flowers and herbs or whatever.

u/how-unfortunate Jun 19 '26
Ah the age-old semantic struggle.
As for the drink, this is correct.
But as for the unbrewed plants in jars waiting to make the loosely defined drink, there's only one plant family that can be identified by the word and be accurate.
At least, I haven't yet seen a definition claiming that any dried plant that can be made into an infusion can be identified as tea.
But it's also not a hill I'm willing to die on, as I like and respect most hot drinks equally, and brew herbal fairly often.

Your wabi sabi book looks interesting. Is it a good read if I can locate it?
3
u/Lil_Nutmeg23 Jun 19 '26
I would say it’s more of a coffee table book but does have some beautiful imagery if you’re into that style

This might be a random question but what kind of tape do you use to write on
2
u/Lil_Nutmeg23 Jun 19 '26
I use kraft masking tape, easy to write on and doesn’t leave a residue when removed
1
u/Pixiechrome Jun 24 '26
Ooh I was wondering this too ty! So much better than my blue tape! This is gorgeous!!

u/SARSUnicorn Jun 19 '26
If not for logical fact of living on opposite sides of the world i would ask for date
For now I will contine infodumping about chiniese green teas to random gals on tinder
2
u/LorenIpsuum Jun 19 '26
Could you explain the design of the cabinet? Do the doors partially block the passage of light to preserve the tea?
2
u/Lil_Nutmeg23 Jun 19 '26
The design is more aesthetic than functional. I have the cabinet in an area that doesn’t get hit with direct sunlight, but if it was I would get solid doors to preserve them for longer
2
u/sch0f13ld Jun 19 '26
I love this! What are the herbs and flowers you gave drying on top of the cabinet?
2
u/Lil_Nutmeg23 Jun 19 '26
I have some orange peels I’m drying for negronis, otherwise mostly flowers and herbs that I’ve foraged. I use them to infuse oils and burn some as incense

Well, during that 45 minutes or afterward is there a sampling of that awesome selection? I mean, inviting someone over, showing off a glorious selection of tea, then not trying some of the tea would be quite cruel. Otherwise, it sounds like a good time.
That is a nice cabinet!
2
u/seriouslysocks Jun 19 '26
This is beautiful!
I see that borage, too. Where do you stand with the pyrrolizidine alkaloids? For some reason I’ve stayed away from borage because of the PA’s, but then conversely I’m ok with occasional lobelia ingestion. I’m thinking I should do a deep dive to update myself on borage!

You just need someone for whom “talking about your tea cabinet” and “getting freaky” have a lot of overlap

Hello, /u/Lil_Nutmeg23! This is a friendly reminder that most photo posts should include text with some additional information. For example: Consider writing a mini review of the tea you're drinking or giving some background details about your teaware. If you're posting your tea order that just arrived or your tea stash, be sure to list the teas, why you chose them, etc. Posts that lack a comment or body text for context/discussion after a reasonable time may be removed. You may also consider posting to /r/TeaPictures.

Oh shit this is awesome. Coming from a novice who hardly knows a thing beyond loose leaf is the best, what's your favorite tea to drink?
0
u/Lil_Nutmeg23 Jun 19 '26
It depends on what you’re after, do you want something that tastes nice and enjoyable as a beverage, or are you interested in the medicinal benefits? If so I would say start with finding out what you would like to focus on - e.g sleep, mood, skin/hair/nails, digestion, inflammation, gut support, immunity, circulation etc. From there you can research what plants are known to support that and start brewing. I would say find somewhere like a homestead or farm to buy your ingredients from if you can, it makes a huge difference. If you have a particular area or body system you’d like to focus on I can help suggest a blend :)
