Question/Help What's in your cup? Daily discussion, questions and stories - October 12, 2026

What are you drinking today? What questions have been on your mind? Any stories to share? And don't worry, no one will make fun of you for what you drink or the questions you ask.

You can also talk about anything else on your mind, from your specific routine while making tea, or how you've been on an oolong kick lately. Feel free to link to pictures in here, as well. You can even talk about non-tea related topics; maybe you want advice on a guy/gal, or just to talk about life

in general.

Review Venturing into flavoured tea bags (i normally have flavoured loose leaf). This tea was awful, do not reccomend.

Smells kind of nice, tastes of straight chemicals and dish water. Also it tastes more golden syrup than caramel, but in the worst way. I rate this tea a 2 out of 10. Didn't make me puke, but if I kept drinking it I'm sure I would soon enough.

Photo Handmade tea tray I carved from 100+ year old reclaimed wood.

Just finished this tea tray for a friend - carved from over 100 year old reclaimed barn wood featuring four Moss Agate spheres that are set, but spin freely. I also utilized an old nail hole on the rim as a place to display a small flower or burn an incense stick.

Recommendation tea brewing device help

Good day,

I'm pretty new and need help with replacement brew setup.

Originally I was using my extremely nice French press that gave me perfect results; till I dropped my loose leaf tea jar on top of it's double wall glass carafe...

I had gotten an infuser off amazon (amazon pic) for work. It gets the job done; although, at least to me, it filters too much. sorry, not sure how else to explain it. Has anyone had an unfiltered wheat beer like a Bavarion style wheat beer? It has left over sediment that gives the beer a hazy look like you're looking through fogged glass. My French press felt like it left more of that sediment (or essence) in the final result. Where as the amazon thingy turns it into a crystal wheat. If it's still unclear, I prefer the unfiltered style.

the second pic is of Davids tea

that I have seen recommended somewhere on reddit. This looks really nice; and a better setup now that I don't make coffee anymore and there's a very good chance I maybe living in an RV for an extended time. Also, want something relatively durable made out of ceramic or good quality steel (no plastic or glass) that's easy to wash by hand (little OCD about cleaning); and the infuser or whatever is recommended can be used in other mugs.

Based on my lunacy does anyone have any recommendations (other than seeking help)?

I am using loose leaf.

On a side note, if this makes you want to try an unfiltered wheat beer; I have a tip. The sediment settles at the bottom. You need to pour half the bottle into a glass. Then swirl the remaining beer in bottle (to mix the sentiment) and pour into glass. This completely changes the flavor.

Finally some flavor notes hit me

I've been drinking a pot of Assam almost every day with my husband, it's his favorite, and finally some floral notes hit my palate as I swallowed the last of my tea today. I've been trying to figure out how you all do it, how you can taste all these flavors in teas. Well I don't know how it happened, could be a fluke, but I'm excited to try it with other teas as well. :)

Photo Tea Haul from w2t (they ship to Mexico, yay!)

First tea haul in years! I'm trying out w2t, since I saw it recommended on a post

I had to post a photo of my haul, as I'm quite stocked about having received it: I'm in Mexico, and this took forever and a day (ok, more like a month + 1 day) to arrive. But considering its been ages since I ordered loose leaf I kinda chose a bit of everything, (except oolong, because I definitely know I love those).

Where should I start? How good or bad is my selection? What should I order next?

Full list of what came in the mail:

  • Anzac (2024 Raw puehr)
  • Waffles (2023 Ripe puehr)
  • Natural Readhead (2018 Black)
  • Chapo (2021 Heicha)
  • Snowflake Queen (Oolong)
  • Dancong Oolong Chatou (Oolong)
  • Dian Mei (white)

And some minis:

  • 520 Jin (2025 Ripe puehr)
  • Lumberslut (2023 Ripe puehr)
  • Grampa's (2022 Ripe puehr)
  • Malone (2026 Raw puehr - freebie!)

Just a little childhood tea story to share, anyone else?

I suspect I'm a bit older than most here, so for reference, I was a young child in the 1960s and my family would drop me off on weekends to stay with my great grandmother who was a widow who lived alone....in the 1960s, she was in her 80s and in great health, I suspect tea was one factor.

So her tea was my introduction to the tea world. Every morning, she would rise and boil water on the stovetop for us. She only drank two types of tea - Red Rose and Constant Comment, in tea bags. The boxes of Red Rose came with a small prize - a small figurines mostly related to circus animals....the goal was to entice customers to keep buying in order to build a whole collection.

Later on as a child of 11-12, I was invited to home of a friend whose parents moved to the US from Scotland....the mom served us hot homemade shortbread along with cups of Constant Comment. It was so delicious, I still recall that day lol.

For years, that was all I knew about tea.

Recently I bought a box of Constant Comment tea bags...not sure if they changed something, but the well rounded, hearty and spicy flavor of the original was missing.

Peace all.

These are a few of the teas that I ended up buying while in San Francisco .They were such good quality and lasted me a good while. Song not only has such smooth and quality teas but a lovely storefront with ceramic tea pieces. Lovely staff who were so helpful and generous with tastings. I wanted to stay in there for hours 🥰

Recommendation Tea gift recommendations

Hi, I am looking for some tea recommendations for my partner’s upcoming birthday. She enjoys black, oolong, and white teas mostly out of a gaiwan. Nothing flavored or fermented. I was thinking of a nice silver needle if anyone has any recommendations for something special. Pretty open as long as it is something she would enjoy given the restrictions above. Thanks in advance!

Completely messed up my sleep schedule so I get to enjoy this 3 am Ginger flower fragrance Dancong session today. Love this tea it's got a nice caramel candy like sweetness, with gingery and floral undertones. Very aromatic and pleasant to slurp.

Teaware is a bit disjointed, but I love these small volume wares that are also very thin and a delight to use.

Toasted brown rice + Dragon Well (Longjing) green tea = homemade Genmaicha, my way.

PS: At first I thought roasting brown rice would take a long time, so I even walked away. But it turned out not to be the case — once the pan was hot, it started popping in less than a minute. So just be careful, when you do this. Don't walk away at any point.

Photo Evening ripe pu-erh to digest all the picnic food

My son got back from the autumn field trip today. He ran around all day and loaded up on snacks and street food.

Now it’s wind-down time for me. I brewed a pot of ripe pu-erh to ease the heavy stomach after all that rich food.

Fermented ripe pu-erh is so gentle on the gut, no harsh bitterness like raw puer. The warm, mellow brew works perfectly for post-meal digestion.

Nothing beats a quiet evening with red-brown tea soup after a busy day🍵

hi it says 6 steeps and has different times. what does this mean? how to do this?

I have a wire basket i put the 2gram loose leaf tea in and then i put the wire basket into my teapot. then i pour hot water on top of it.

does it mean first pour enough hot water to cover the loose leaf tea in the teapot and let it sit for 20 seconds, then remove the water, then pour enough hot water to cover it and let it sit for 40 seconds, then pour out the water, etc?

how do i steep for 20s, 40s, 70s, 120s, 150s, 180s?

Photo Time for some Tie Guan Yin oolong

Post image
12 Upvotes

This is a hand made Qing Xiang Tie Guan Yin oolong sample I got from teavivre, I used half the bag, so only 2.5 grams of tea, around 40ml of water at 92C. Instead of small steeps, I went for 3 minutes for the first steep, then 3:30, 4 min, 5 min respectively. Quite delicious oolong, very fresh, almost like freshly cut grass, also vegetal with floral notes, neutral sweetness and I did not perceive any astringency or bitterness. Really delicious, specially first steep of which I was pleasantly surprised. I'd definitely buy this again.
