Photo Noone appreciates my new kettle

I wanted to try some new teas so I bought a kettle with a variable temperature setting and a keep warm function which is great for when my ADHD makes me forget my mug exists when it's out of my sight

I agree with your husband (and so does mine). Mine also said “If it doesn’t sing it should at least sound like pingu” (uk child cartoon). This is excellent and I now want mine to break so I would have an excuse to buy this one.

On a similar note I once got super excited because I found a stovetop kettle that looks like a pig so it would be like a squealing pig when the water was boiling. I made the mistake of thinking others would find that fun so I bought it as a gift. It was never used but I do realize (after the excitement had worn off) that 1) a stovetop kettle is not very practical and 2) the squealing would be very grating after a while. Whoops

I mean the Bird & Blend tea - I've also had the Coconut Milk Oolong! I don't find so many B&B fans on here as I think it's mostly UK users only. I spend $$$ to ship it to Australia!

I loved BnB for awhile, I had upto maybe 30? different ones, shop is 10 mins from me; but I've found theres 3 other tea places and one of them has stolen my heart as you can make your own blend with all their various ingredients like some kinda tea witch !!

Does it cost you a lot to ship there?

Quite a lot but they send DHL which is super fast and reliable - I try to do big orders at once. I was annoyed because I emailed to see if a particular blend was coming back and they said they couldn’t say. So I put in my order without it.

About three weeks later it was back as a limited edition special. I did rebut it but I was pissed off!

EDIT just checked - it’s £25.

I have a variable temp kettle for pour over coffee, but it's great for tea. You'll find most teas and coffees aren't actually meant to be steeped in or brewed with water at 100C (212F) but usually somewhere between 75 and 90 (170 to 195) depending, and they taste a bit better at those temperatures. Now you can still do that with a stove and pot by monitoring with a thermometer and cutting the heat when you hit the desired temp, or heating to a boil and adding tap water until you get back down to temp, but an electric kettle is a fair amount more convenient if you make tea or coffee often.

And if you're going to buy kettle anyway, you could always make it a gooseneck ($10-20 more than your typical variable temp electric kettle), buy a hand-crank coffee bean grinder ($15-25), a glass pour over cone ($10-20), some cone filters ($5 to $10), and a kitchen scale ($5-$15) and start enjoying an astoundingly delicious cup of coffee every once in a while. Even the whole beans from the dispensers at the grocery store taste way better when you're not scorching them in boiling water in an automatic coffeemaker (which uses boiling hot water in a steaming hot environment).

it would take my stove like 3,4 minutes to boil water for tea..my kettle takes like 90 sec and it doesn't add residual heat to my apartment. Also, my kettle has multiple settings so I can get the perfect temp for green tea or herbal teas. It also only costs like $40 and considering I go through 3-5 cups a day, I find it very useful.

That's super cute.

How easy are those buttons to use when the kettle is at temp? Do they get warm/hot?

Surely it's dual walled with a graphic like that and control panel on the side. So the whole thing would be warm but more than safe enough to touch. If like myself who's had a single walled one all their life and also recently upgraded, you'll still jump out of your skin and scream as though reacting to a second degree burn when you brush up against it while reaching for something else on the counter. That's all you though. Kettle is safe.
