QUESTION Question on Idris Rework?
Hey so taking a closer look at the new Sq42 Idris model which is eventually coming to the PU. Do you think Idris P owners are gonna get the full perks of this rework? Primarily looking at what I think Im seeing of x5 dual size 7 guns or 8’s.
Or do you think P owners because its a civilian version will still only have the Size 5’s and one size 7 on the nose with the torpedo kit? Just brainstorming on what they might do with the kits and stuff for the Idris-P if both variants of it are getting the rework.
(To clarify we are not questioning or discussing anything about the size 10 gun, this has already been laid in cement from CIG that the Railgun is Idris-M only)

All these posts about the larger guns on the SQ42 idris like the military in that game isn't facing off against the literal biggest threat humanity has ever faced. Basic reasoning would have you assume the empire retrofitted a couple ships as an emergency precaution rather than expecting a buff to the PU idris...

UEE Military ships have always had more or bigger guns than our civilian ships. Like for the last 10+ years.

This is what happened in lore often. The Aegis Gladius is a very old ship and yet it's still being flown today. It is states that it has been regularly updated and thus an early Gladius will be very different than a later period Gladius. It's significantly cheaper and quicker to try and update older designs, especially to supplement a new design that hasn't been proven or cannot be outfitted in large numbers. It would be completely appropriate for the UEE to realize the standard railgun wasn't effective enough. As well, Squadron 42 is notorious for not exactly following the rulebook and thus this could easily be a custom Aegis Idris.
However they have also made new ships as needed. Example being the F8 being directly created to compete against Vanduul fighters as well as the UEE Retribution which is meant to take on Kingships.

Decent point but we don't know if that is the case. The re-fit for new turrets would take a significant amount of time. Power and structure aside.

At this point, I pretty much expect the MK2 idris to be a $1000 CCU.

im sure thats in their heads now, wonder what a mk2 idris would be like

You know people would buy it.
We know it doesnt have pivoting engine.
A couple of things I wish it would get:
No lip at the front/gravity at the front. Easier to EVA in the front, and the ability to use the Idris as a jump ramp for land vehicles (drive up the rear ramp, jump out the front)
Giant cargo elevator the cargo bay to the hangar. Would love to be able to lower it and stuff a spare fighter in the cargo bay, or use it for rapidly getting large cargo up there.
Either a slightly taller hangar or tweaks to the Cutlass and shiv so they fit.

unfortunately i would be one of those people to buy it. now that you bring it up cargo elevators could use some work on that thing and the cargo bay

The devs have said before that what we’ll get in the PU is a kind of “Idris 1.5”. We’re not getting all the new stuff they’re adding as some of it tied tightly to SQ42 (story specific changes to the armaments etc compared to PU layouts).
What we are getting is a new model based on the SQ42 model with PU specific features (engineering etc) added to it.

As long as it gets a significant exterior visual update Im good with whatever. Thing looks like its from a 2016 build of the game in the PU atm

isn't the idris in sq42 the idris-m? most people in the pu have the P which is the Civ varient.
1
u/AMIR_TAOUN 1d ago
Yeah but it's old idris, both in lore (military surplus), and irl (the pu idris is the old model, the updated one is the one in sq42, but they are keeping it from the pu till after sq42 releases. Pretty sure it's only the exterior that is updated, interior i think the pu is up to date)

u/fishyfinger81 1d ago
Forgive my ignorance, but why is the idris "old military surplus" if we still have the Vanduul?
3
u/AMIR_TAOUN 1d ago
The idris is like 500 years old design. The ones sold to civilians are old surplus stock according to the lore. As for the vanduul, thats where the polaris comes in. Its supposed to be a fast response vessel to counter the vanduul attacks. The idris is too big and too slow to respond in time. Not a replacement, I think they still make new idris, but not as reliant on them since the introduction of the polaris.

Presumably that’s an Idris M in SQ42, so the Idris P would not get armaments to match it.

u/Dracono47 1d ago
I know they don’t get a railgun, but you also think they wont see the turrets getting upsized?

"Its too powerful to have in civilian hands"
Ignore the Javelin, Kraken, Odin etc etc..

Its an Idris M in SQ42 so the Idris M in PU would share similar load out, while the Idris P would have a lesser loadout. However as already stated the weapons and upgrades of the Idris M are avaliable in the PU to those citizens willing to put the work in to find and collect them to upgrades their Idris Ps.
As for the size 10 weapons the reason the M has one and the P does not is due to the power requirements for the railgun the Idris M has two power plants while the Idris P has one.
Presumably you will be able to pay a shipyard to upgrade the power plant of the Idris P, and still get a railgun via the same method.
I also believe with enough hard work one would be able to achieve the required reputation with the right people to be able to build or buy and Idris M.
We are talking about and ship class that has been in service for centuries and will likely have many variants, the UEEN Stanton is 5 year older than the PU.

u/cyberzwerge 1d ago
Idris p has also 2 powerplants
1
u/WARDEN330 1d ago
The current version yes.
I remember reading a long time ago in a lore post that while the Idris P is limited by design for those citizens willing to pay the large sum required the Idris P can be upgraded to the Idris M at authorized Aegis Dynamics shipyards and that the reason it needed an upgrade and not just parts was the fact that without 2 reactors it couldn't power the railgun.

I think the P will StaY the Same, and when we will be able to buy the Idris M, this will have the better turret, but we want be able to buy it as easily. And I Hope the Polaris gets some soft of buff (maybe every turret fun +1 in size), since its a Full Military Ship. with the ships Kept from us in pu by sq42, the scale of Fleet Battle an sc in General will change, so the Polaris might really Need it

IMHO, you’re tripping if you think those are S7 or S8. Much smaller than a Percy Turret. I would say those are S5s.

u/minivandetta ARGO CARGO 1d ago
Idk i feel scale might get lost on the idris pretty easy, next to a perseus that could look like size 7 or size 6 atleast

In the current PU, the Idris M comes standard with size 7 laser nose turret and the T kit has a size 7 ballistic nose turret, so it's a pretty reasonable speculation.
Especially considering the nose turret appears to be the same size as the rest of the manned turrets in the trailer.

u/Stehlik-Alit 1d ago
turrets themselves will be swappable to some extent. We'll get options to buy different turrets for different applications with different hardpoints.
A new turret set is an easy money maker for CIG, so yeah. We'll get options and the ability to give cig money for them

I think asking the question "do you think" in relation to the Idris is cope. Always assume the answer will be no, and you'll not be disappointed when it doesn't happen.
1
u/SentinelCreations aegis 1d ago
On the guns no idea.
It has been confirmed that the visuals of the Idris will be updated from Flight 4 (PU) to Flight 5 (SQ42) after SQ42 releases

u/Tactical_Ferrets Idris-M 23h ago
Which lore wise makes absolutely no sense given the fact that the S42 idris should be older since S42 happened before the PU.
2
u/SigmaSplitter21 22h ago
Because it's not connected to the lore
1
u/Tactical_Ferrets Idris-M 22h ago
S42? The idris? Which kne are you referring to?
1
u/SigmaSplitter21 19h ago
The idris in the pu being updated. Not everything has a reason in lore
1
u/Tactical_Ferrets Idris-M 19h ago
I dont see how the PU idris isnt connected to lore?
2
u/SigmaSplitter21 17h ago
Not every little update has to have lore, all it is is swapping the old model for the new one, all there is to it
1
u/Ayden_Prime avacado 14h ago
The PU Idris isn't the completed Idris, and as they've said before we'll get the SQ42 Idris to replace it sometime after SQ42 releases.

P will get what they have now. Stop this pipe dream of getting an upgrade/up-gun. You are only setting yourself up for disappointment. You've seen how they have done other ships with mark variants. It's win/win for them and they don't own you a damn thing. You'll get a visual update and nothing more.

Going off of previously learned lore-etc, and probably using incorrect terminology:
Our Idris P's are a previous generation Idris hull that's actually been phased out by the UEE Navy for use, and in lieu of being completely scrapped, were just demilled to an extent and released for public purchase.
Now, if actual Idris-M owners get the new one and P's are the older ship? That would make it "interesting" and make a significant "Idris on the field FUCK ITS AN M" potential situation, as not only does it have the rail stock but having a quintet of dual 6/7/8's? It'd be a large "how's it feel, Perseus?" situation as getting pepperfucked by an M with those would be a ballgame changer, especially if they had the double mounting to still have decent anti-fighter capacity vs being purely CAP reliant.

They already said everyone will get the new model.

u/SkyIcy4303 1d ago
Tbh I believe you, but as someone with an idris-p do you have something I could look at to verify that? I just wanna make sure. It makes sense to have the idris-m have bigger guns than the p, but getting these upgrades for the p sounds nice.

It'll get gold-passed for sure, not the guns probably tho.

for lore reasons... everything we have are civilian models or outdated surplus of basically everything except the F7A-MKII
so... part of me is like "yes give players military grade things." because then theres more toys for players.
another part of me is it dosn't make sense that large groups of players can make militias of military grade hardware that can rival the in game governments.
my stance is I wouldn't be upset if they did, it's not like the solo idris pilot can use those turrets anyway.
but at the same time I kinda WAN'T what we have for the most part to be just surplus models and not state of the art military hardware...
