Squadron 42 Playtest Megathread
Hello squadroners (?)
As some of you may know we have a sister subreddit, r/Squadron42 which is also ran by our team and is dedicated to Squadron 42. That subreddit is more restrictive in terms of not allowing Star Citizen (PU/PTU/etc.) unless it directly relates to something in Squadron 42 (not just "oh this ship is in both games!!!!!! type stuff).
We know the SQ42 playtest is a big deal right now, rightfully so, and we want to take the opportunity to show people that sub a bit more and give them an opportunity to start chatting there.
With that, we have made a megathread on that subreddit for the playtest event. Given it is the first megathread for that sub we will not be deleting individual threads but we will be reminding people in the comments about it. We encourage you to head over there and talk with your fellow citizens about the playtest event to your hearts content. We will not be doing a megathread here or enforcing people move to that megathread from this sub either.
Megathread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Squadron42/s/oLop2SHbnh
Cheers!

Okay so, someone has been flicking days past me and I'm not entirely sure how we got to October this soon...
IRL has consumed much of my time personally, I've been a bit out of touch with SC development for a few months now but checking back to see tech preview having a physics fix at long last is a welcome sight!
What's everyone's go to ship in these last few months? Has my baby boy been fixed up any further (IronClad)? | Fly Safe, -Crazy_Muffins

DISCUSSION I love that the Connie MKV has a S3 Radar. I HATE that the larger Perseus doesnt.
Seriously... why? I can see an argument being that the Medusa's rounds travel so slowly anyway, hence a maximum ~2km being fine, but why not reward people who have skills to be a decent crackshot?
According to stats from Erkhul, a Medusa Round has a range of about 9kms.
With an ample amount of hopium, I imagine the turret gameplay will still be subject to further improvement and balancing (the silence from CIG on this matter doesnt give me any faith though).

DISCUSSION Star Citizen Ordnance Officers Formally Request Palletization of Ammunition
Cig For the love of god please let us Palletize our ordnance.... whether on an actual pallet with all the rounds visible in their little frames, or in a 4scu Box, 8scu Box, 16scu Box.... hell i'm even fine with making it where to palletize that it take 3 minutes to palletize/pack

FLUFF Reclaimer internal tractor beam

This is barely more efficient than just using the handheld tractor beam BUT imagine that spot on the balcony having a tractor beam terminal and 2 screens to interact with the box printers remotely... I can dream

DISCUSSION Wanted to give cig a shout out! I thinks its great and a good decision to put a ship in the game and let it be used before selling it :)
It wpuld be cool if they did that for now on and maybe sometimes gave them to npcs so we can fight against them as well :)

DISCUSSION TAC vs MkV
Nobody made this comparison yet, so here I go lol
I have the TAC and can use store credits to get the Mk5 without spending anything extra. However, they are very similar in many aspects, and it might be smarter to use those credits to grab a ship for a different role. That being said, the differences between them are almost convincing me to keep both, and I’d love to hear your thoughts.
(Everything below is just my opinion, and you’re all welcome to disagree and share your own points 😄 )
MK5 Pros:
- More cargo (240 SCU)
- More missiles (32 + 32)
- Higher damage output (4x S5 + 4x S3 on turrets)
- Higher hull HP and armor
- Faster SCM / NAV speed
- Awesome interior
- Can carry a Nova Tank
- Both turrets can shoot forward
MK5 Cons:
- Weird exterior (especially the landing gear. Loved the old design, this new one not so much...)
- Very slow turn rates
- Only 4 seats
- Apparently cant RRR skylark (needs confirmation)
TAC Pros:
- Best maneuverability in its class (only behind the MAX)
- 2x T3 medical beds
- Ability to carry other snubs in the hangar
- Rear missiles for the copilot
- 14 seats (8 of which are jump seats for dropship gameplay)
- Accommodations for up to 8 crew members
- Side S5 turrets for ground attack
- Nice interior and exterior (imo lol)
- RRR for snubs
TAC Cons:
- Very slow SCM / NAV speed
- Very poor visibility for pilot/copilot
- Top back turret can't shoot forward due to that weird "spoiler"
- Cargo is split by the 'garage' in the middle, so only 96 SCU (that was so dumb, by the way, since other ships have a full grid and let you park ground vehicles wherever you want).
- Side turrets are only effective for ground attack (not super relevant right now since there isn't gameplay for it, but eventually ships will only be able to hover horizontally, and belly/side turrets will be a big deal for ground support)
Both ships are Gunships, with the difference that the Mk5 is also a medium freighter while the TAC doubles as a dropship. Ultimately, you can pull off basically the same gameplay with both ships, whether solo or with a crew.
To me, the biggest differences are the maneuverability with the Connie currently feeling pretty sluggish (though that might improve) and the TAC having medical beds along with more seating for bigger crew. The extra seats will matter because eventually, during quantum jumps, all cargo will need to be properly snapped to the grid and the crew will need to be seated in designated seats (at least, they mentioned this will be a requirement in the future).
What do you guys think?

DISCUSSION More and more positive reacts are coming in
I wont post the people because many here cant stand the sight of streamers.
More and more bigger content creators are now reacting to it.
All are very positive and hope they make the release this time. Stop worrying about the "hate brigade" if the game is good it will make it.
It is now in CIG´s hands to deliver it in a good enough state and on time this time for it to be a massive success
I think were on track to a good time ahead.
Even the biggest critics are accepting this.

CONCERN I hope it’s shown at the game awards.
I know, views aren’t everything, but the controversy from a month ago has so much more views than their official squadron trailer. All of the reaction videos to the trailer are basically people who already knew about Star citizen, and squadron heavily. In this week in Star citizen they were talking about a bunch of people coming into the game because of the marketing for squadron. I don’t know if that’s gonna be that true. My only hope is it’s shown at the game awards and everyone says it’s amazing and that gets the hype truly going for the outer gaming world because currently none of the big streamers or even really utter gaming outlets except IGN are even talking about it.

You can click the little "play" button on the right to deploy the wings. It's a bit too long when retracted to fit the real Aurora Mk II slots but that's still cool :)
