DISCUSSION Any clue what the three forked areas on the bottom of the station are for?
To me, these look like Capital docks for space only capitals such as the Javelin or Odin. They have bumpers near the inside to halt momentum, landing pads on each prong that host repair, refuel, and restock capabilities for any on-board craft.
I don't see them often, but I'd figure that persistent capitals wouldn't need docking very often.

It is a UEE Naval installation built into most major stations, it is covered in weapons systems and is a No Fly Zone, don't recommend tresspassing down there.
few years ago, the ILW events took place there, Capital ships dock and there are large landing pads for fighters and support craft.
there is a MAP in the free fly mode that you can fly around it and land on it, and even run around on foot the whole platform,

I also forgot to mention their are stand alone stations in Stanton that are UEE outposts there is one near microtech they are smaller versions of these instalations with only 2 forks instead of three.
The name of the arena commander map and the station in Stanton is INS Jericho.

For those playing SC long enough to remember the old XenoThreat server wide events with the Javelin parked at Jericho Station.

Has it been that long since the first Xenothreat event? I think that's the last time we saw a Javelin docked somewhere...

As the others said, these are the military docking stations. There is also landing pads for smaller ships. As well as huge deffence cannons.

During events where they give Javelin tours, the UEE ship will dock there so people can board them and look around.

Honestly if things work the way I think they should, the only way to reasonably afford a large ship like that would be to keep it docked in a place like that until use.
Preferably with player owned stations being the dock location instead of these NPC orbitals.

That's how real world warships function. It is very rare for them to spend more than 50% of their life cycle away from port.
Us privateers have a but of an issue though if we don't have our own bsses. Ports charge moorage fees based on vessel size, and once you get outside of the typicsl size of recreational craft, those fees spiral hardcore.

Charging to store ships... now there's an idea!

They have stated this is coming. Owning a large fleet will be expensive. Not only maintenance and rearming. Storing ships away from your home hangar will have storage fees associated as well.

Now to be fair, they say that a ton of things are coming, or have said so in the past only to backtrack. Unless something is ingame, it's all hypothetical and with zero guarantees it'll ever happen.

I tend to agree, but storage rent would be such an easy thing to implement I'm surprised it's not already in game. There's very little in the game that's currently a money sink, so even though we had a wipe recently anyone that's putting in a bit of effort has tens of millions of auec or more. This could be an easy way to burn some of that off.
You could even implement a free grace period for people, so that if you're always playing and using your one ship you don't get charged. The first 48 irl hours incurs no fees. After that anything in storage racks up storage fees. So if you're new, have only a couple ships, or play frequently you probably wouldn't ever need to pay.

Oh I so hope that Bengals being un-storeable and always have to be in universe either docked or hidden in an astroid field or something.
2
u/Ingram47 1d ago
Oh yeah, proofing out of existence I hope isn't a thing.
These things should be incredibly powerful, but strategically vulnerable when "at anchor" so to speak.

Considering all the other changes, not only do i imagine there will be hundreds of begals more than they originally pitched (because thry will be sold as a package despite originally pitched as ingame goals), i also do not imagine them not just creating giant hangars eventually for "convenience" or complete inability to keep them from vanishing

While this is 100% my own theory
I have a gut feeling the Bengal is gonna operate like the Odin since we already know that they will be buildable at player shipyard vs the old plan of a set amount of Bengals that players would fight over

I'm sure this will be an unpopular opinion but personally I hope they eventually do away with the XL hangars almost completely in favor of external docking like this for any ship that's upper S5 to S6 and up. Only very few very large stations should be able to accommodate subcapital and capital size ships in fully internal hangars like we have currently.
Rather than the current docking ports with jetways, they should add actual docks like the struts in the OP. Maybe giant shed-like docks that are partly enclosed with the one side open sort of like a moonpool in space for S5-S6. With a few of these sort of satellite hangar "hubs" all localized around the main station for up to 15-20 ships total or something like that.
Right now these massive internal hangars really mess with the sense of scale and logistics around large and huge ships especially IMO.

Unless you’re based in Levski or Pyro - any visit to a station (bar your home) in an XL ship requires exactly this.
How would you propose to load up an XL ship, ready for a complex mission - perhaps loaded with vehicles etc. if the ship is docked?
Are you expecting CIG to give us multiple hangars in each station?

Ahh, Port Tressler. There are many Rest and Relax Stations, but this one is mine.

Space drydocks / docking ports for capital ships. Currently inactive but ILW / IAE tours use it a lot.

You can EVA down there and use those elevators to get back in the station. But only one way

u/Mr_StephenB Grand Admiral 1d ago
They are large docking ports, or military docking ports. It was used during one of the earlier Invictus events where the javelin would fly around the system and dock at these locations.

Flagship-class capital ships like, Javelin, Bengal, Odin, Pegasus, etc...

u/Chemical_Pudding_173 1d ago
You sometimes get moved there at some stations (like seraphim) if you are repositioned for whatever reason.
The elevator labels them as Secure Docking 1 / 2 / 3

I wanna see 3 capital ships dock on it facing the same direction and go full boost. /jk

It's a Last Stand Battle Platform.
Adds a +3 dramatic effect multiplier and will dynamically will boots weapon damage for any surrounding ships to increase the chaos factor for epic screenshot backgrounds.

Exactly that, they're for the big capital ships like the javelin
