I used to work for a company that was trying to partner with her for some sort of campaign (it was not my division, I only knew about it through the people losing their minds trying to get it done) and like every week there was some new drama from her to the point that it became a running joke to how many emails got sent company-wide that were titled "re: Selma" so they started using "re:Selma" as a joke for 'this is going to be some exhausting bullshit'

As an Australian I’m never not jarred by the pharma advertising on tv when I travel to the US. It’s incessant. “Prescription only” pharma is not allowed to advertise in Australia.

If I’m in a plane and you’re trying to open the door, I have to fight you. That’s just the rule.

155

u/slickrick_27 11h ago

But also it’s physically impossible to open the door mid flight. So it makes me laugh even thinking of someone trying to do this.

238

u/TheWitchCapricorn 10h ago

True but many don't know this and it causes distress to the passengers who think they are about to be put in a dangerous situation.

576

u/littlebruise 11h ago

She was biting ppl whenever they tried to stop her, most ppl want to avoid injuries (esp with biting, if a random person bites you i imagine you'd have to get a shot)

247

u/MarieOMaryln Buffet of humiliation 10h ago

Oral anitbiotics mostly unless you know the person who bit you has Hep B. Human bites carry aggressive bacteria and our blunt teeth causes crushing of the area instead of piercing, takes a bit longer to heal and more to clean.

139

u/CheesecakeExpress 9h ago

Funnily enough I was at the dr’s today (in the UK) and a lady was making an appointment for a tetanus jab as she’d been bitten by a child at work. So it seems here you get that too for human bites

Human bites get infected very easily when skin is broken. You’re always supposed to go get urgent medical care and antibiotics to avoid cellulitis.

She sounds way more like a racoon than human. When I have had to rescue wild animals we know if cornered they’d likely bite their way out too.

Henry Rollins had a story of getting someone’s tooth lodged in his knuckles after punching them at a show for aggressive stage diving and his hand got super infected and he ended up in the hospital getting IV antibiotics.

In her memoir, “Mean Baby: A Memoir of Growing Up,” released in 2022, Blair confesses to biting Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Seth Mac Farlane.

That's insane.

u/noUr8eaten 10h ago

“As for why Blair felt the need to bite others, she writes that it is triggered by feeling “overwhelmed” in “social situations.””

So she’s a misbehaved toddler?

I give my toddler sensory straws/chews, maybe someone needs to get her some. Edit: if anyone needs some quality sensory chews check out the ark website. They sell all kinds of regular sensory toys and chews and well as the z-vibe which is great for kids that need feedback and that biting sensation.

89

u/danicies 8h ago

Ark therapeutic is amazing. And yeah, when my kid had issues with biting we started chewies at 2 and OT by 3 to get to the root issue.

Biting people as an adult and expecting it to be accepted due to being overwhelmed is insane.

I think it's a last-resort animalistic defense thing when the person feels overwhelmed/attacked even if not being physically attacked.

100

u/foundinwonderland 9h ago

My mom is heavily addicted to ambien and Xanax. She buys them in Mexico, and also has switched her primary doctor in the states to a random Amazon clinic (???? Who even knew that was a thing) that will give her whatever she wants when she’s in the country (she is a chronic cruiser and is on a ship like 6 months out of the year) because her old primary refused to start writing the prescriptions when her old psychiatrist retired. She got very offended when she was referred to a new psychiatrist and they made her take a drug test. She will hear absolutely nobody that tries to tell her that her physical addiction to ever increasing doses is dangerous, or that her behavior is drug seeking. I feel so bad for doctors that have to interact with her.

I have heard some absolutely insane stories involving Ambien from friends a d family. The craziest one involved sleepwalking out of the house, going to a bar and meeting some crazy chick, and ending up waking up on a couch in Arizona (he lived in San Diego at the time.) He had no recollection of anything past taking the pills and getting into bed. He was literally wearing pj bottoms and slippers the whole time.

50

They gave me an ambien when I was pregnant and I had to take it at home. I thought the clothes in my closet were dancing. It was scary. It felt like what I imagine an LSD trip would feel like. I’ve never wanted to take it since.

I do remember a doctor I worked with was addicted to it and would try to convince the techs to let her call ambien in under their name then sell it back to her.

18

u/Money-Computer7638 10h ago

I can't imagine being addicted to that stuff. Like you I had a terrible experience on it and never wanted to take it again. I remember (through a fog) thinking that being roofied must feel like this.

52

u/Not_Steve Nicholas Hoult (sadly back to brunette) 9h ago

Why are we all so calm about people who disturb flights like this? There needs to be a lot more people on the no-fly list if they’re going to act this way. The chaos and confusion they cause prevent other travelers from being calm, prevent flight attendants from doing their jobs, and give pilots something to worry about besides flying the plane. Kicking people off the plane isn’t good enough anymore.

Yeah I read her book Mean Baby a couple of years ago and she talks about biting Kate Moss and a few other people because she’s “awkward in social situations”. Celebrity Memoir Book Club does a (snarky but accurate) break down of the book on their podcast if you’re interested.

She's always been this way. She just has a better PR than Tara Reid.

89

u/Time-Cell9274 11h ago

Has Tara ever been violent? I’ve always gotten the vibe Tara is just self-destructive (which, obviously not good) but between this and Selma’s political views… sounds much more offensive.

63

u/MichaSound 10h ago

I will always love Tara Reid for what she said after her boob accidentally fell out on a red carpet:

“The way people reacted, you would think my boob popped out and shot Gandhi.”

85

u/Consistent_Height748 11h ago edited 10h ago

I've never read any media reports indicating that Tara Reid was violent. She seems to have a drug issue but she doesn't seem to be aggressive. She was on Celebrity Big Brother in the UK years ago and she seemed to be more vulnerable than anything

So it's not like this is her first time going off biting on people. This is a this is a natural reaction for her, but it sounds like maybe she had a bad reaction to a drug or got into a state of psychosis. That's kind of sad. I hope she's okay. That's like , I mean , she's now in a lot of trouble , you know

I lost almost all sympathy reading the article. She has had an incident involving booze and medications that got her in trouble on the plane in the past and wrote about it in her memoir saying she needed to “grow up”(so much for that).
Also not only did she bite one attendant. She punched another, repeatedly kicked a cop in the ambulance in the head and even assaulted the nurse while at the hospital. Her team made a statement saying she had a medical emergency. GTFO with that, nobody has had a medical emergency that caused them to assault multiple people. She has federal and state charges, hopefully they throw the book at her.

so we’re just going to gloss over the trying to open the plane door mid-air part?!?

what the hell is even that

211

u/tacomamajama 11h ago

I doubt she got close to achieving it. The door is hella hard to both open and close. Had a friend fail FA school because she couldn’t close the door on the first try. And they allowed no retries (DL). She had to redo all 6 weeks of training to get hired.

117

u/ravenscroft12 11h ago

I don’t think it’s possible to open it mid-air. It’s like +20K pounds of force.

84

u/amgw402 10h ago

You are correct. It would take about 25k lbs of force to push it open, and there are also automatic locking pins that engage when the plane reaches speeds above 92mph (so, they engage during takeoff, and remain engaged until the plane lands and goes below 92mph).

59

u/KSouphanousinphone 11h ago

Yeah, but it’s behavior likely to cause panic in other passengers. I would think that’s the actual rationale for the prohibition.

31

u/LetshearitforNY I know bothing of the alledged beff 10h ago

Agree here! I’m an anxious flyer and this would have me turning off airplane mode and calling my family lol

76

u/bluebirdsmallbird baby that’s not sabrina carpenter. that’s sabrina plumber 11h ago

no no no I just think that’s weirder than the biting! and way more indicative of a mental health issue because who would do that?

biting, while deranged behavior, is really not out of the ordinary for someone if they have no other way to strike a person and they feel desperate/panicked/suffering from an episode of some sort. considering the article says the attacks happened after she tried to open the plane, I’m assuming they were restraining her or trying to calm her which led to being bitten

19

u/Soggy_Competition614 10h ago

I actually can see someone trying to get the door open more than biting. You’re having a panic attack you need to get outside you’re not thinking clearly that you’re in the sky.

https://www.reddit.com/r/entertainment/s/QsvIW63WJn
I’d add she’s looking at 4 insanely huge federal felonies here, 2 counts of assaulting Flight Attendants (when we’re on the clock, we’re federally protected); one count for attempting to breach the door and another for possibly (no info yet) on failure to comply with Flight Crew instructions. It’s called Ambien and alcohol. Why people choose to do this on flights I will never understand.

55

u/xombae flop gremlin 10h ago

Absolutely insane to take Ambien in public. Especially on a plane. What if there was an emergency, then what's your plan? Heaven forbid we need to be a little bit uncomfortable for a few hours, definitely need to medically tranquilize yourself.

73

u/Muted_Quantity5786 10h ago

FFS, in my experience it isn’t even safe to take it in your own house! I was prescribed Ambien for sleep (switching between day and night shifts constantly sucks balls) and one morning I woke up with 2 plastic bags filled with Smartwater in my bed with me. I recognized the shopping bags. They were from a small deli I always go to. I had no recollection of going to get the water bottles and it was scary because in order to get to this store I had to cross multiple streets and a very busy avenue. No, I didn’t drink alcohol or take anything else that night and I took the dose of Ambien when I was already in bed and ready to go to sleep like my doctor told me to. Never took it again.

u/arightgoodworkman 10h ago

When I first read the part before the deli, I imagined plastic bags filled just with water (like large water balloons) and thought “that’s a very impressive thing to do while blackout.”

21

u/Alert-Painting1164 10h ago

That’s what I was thinking too. Like they’d made themselves “water pillows”

15

u/Muted_Quantity5786 10h ago

That could have been very comfy. If I ever try Ambien again because I suddenly hate myself, I’ll try making some.

Yes, and this was before her MS diagnosis, and it seemed related to her cognitive issues. But she’s had MS for years now, and biting someone is just asshole behavior, to say the least.

52

u/Consistent_Height748 11h ago

She should be charged with endangering the safety of other passengers on a flight. She can't keep pulling the same stunt over and over again

This is completely unhinged

I really hope Selma faces actual consequences for the assault/reckless behavior and doesn’t just “get off” due to being rich

For those who are going to whine MS, 1 in 300 people have the condition in the US, and being violent is not a symptom of the neurological condition

Selma also basically owned up to being violent in her memoir Mean Baby by admitting she bit:

*Her childhood friend (Lizzie)

*Seth Macfarlane, Sienna Miller, Kate Moss (who allegedly bit back)

*Hitting a neighbor with a metal sprinkling rod

*Punching men in the groin at her grandfather’s funeral

She even got kicked off a flight in 2016 for belligerent behavior, and assaulted a police officer/hospital nurse the same day she assaulted the two flight attendants and tried to jump out of the plane

This is not new behavior from her 😬

u/Dreamfinder82 11h ago

I have MS and I have bitten zero flight attendants. I don’t think I’ve ever even thought about it.

Idk why but I’m stuck on her having bit so many people. That 5, including the flight attendant. And from some of them being other celebrities, I’m assuming she’s done most of her biting as an adult?? How weird to be in your fifties and be accurately described as a biter like you’re a pre-schooler

Side note but imagine the airline HR having to write the workers’ comp incident report that Selma Blair bit an employee 😩

I hate Selma Blaire and while I don’t wish this disease on anyone, I do hope we someday have a spokesperson that isn’t a total piece of shit.

I don’t think Christina Applegate sees herself as a spokesperson, but she is vocal and sometimes brutally honest and I suspect she is not a piece of shit.

MS is associated with psychotic symptoms but it’s a rare occurrence. Psychosis is 2-3x more common in people with MS than in the general population. It’s a neurological disorder, so some people will develop neuropsychiatric symptoms. Obligatory statement that psychosis does not inherently mean someone is violent, though persistent paranoia/delusions/hallucinations can make people do things they’re not aware of or don’t realize the implications of.

That said, seems unlikely to be the cause here if she’s been…. like this… since she was a child.

Selma has a history of biting people, and mixing alcohol with medications.

Will this land her on the no-fly list?

41

u/moisturized69tatas 11h ago

Maybe she gets special treatment because she's famous but im guessing if someone tries to open a plane door mid flight then attacks a flight attendant, both big time no no then yeah they not flying anymore.

I almost did this once when they ran out of the Biscoff cookies before getting to my row

87

u/whiff_EK 11h ago edited 10h ago

I once asked the flight attendant for the biscoff because I got skipped and he gave me the purest most evil side-eye and I couldn't figure out why. Turned out my brain completely auto-piloted receiving the cookies the first time and I had stowed them away, then told him to his face he skipped me. I was dying of embarrassment, I truly thought I got skipped and then ended up conning him for a second packet.

edit: I did apologize but there's no shot in hell he believed me and I did eat both packets

84

u/xqueenfrostine 11h ago

WTF?? This feels like an Onion headline. And Page Six says one flight attendant was taken to the hospital?!

Guys, I'm starting to think that being anti-Muslim isn't what made her uncastable.

43

u/merrymomiji 11h ago

If I got bit while working, especially from a celeb, I'd sure as hell go to the hospital, too. I want my workman's comp case handled appropriately and get started on anti-whatever meds right away just to be safe. But yikes. I hope they are okay.

27

u/Sleepyllama23 10h ago

If she broke the skin of the poor flight attendant, they would need shots to prevent nasty diseases including HIV, hepatitis etc. and maybe a dressing. Not a nice thing to deal with during your day at work.

I listened to Celebrity Memoir Book Clubs episode on her autobiography and she tells on herself in grand style. A really shitty person.

65

u/happysunbear 11h ago

Selma Blair has been publicly messy for some time now. I guess she thought opening a plane door would be more like this:

Seems like she’s become completely detached from reality. I know rules for the rich and famous don’t apply to us regulars, but she may very much lose some freedoms over this. Plane shit has way more serious consequences unless you are blonde and starred in Fight Club.

18

u/gypsycookie1015 11h ago

So first of all, totally agree. Absolute nutter lol.

Second, how TF did you get your gif in between your text? You on mobile or nah? 🤨🤔

I ask because as of one of the more recent updates, I'm no longer able to and it's driven me batty ever since!! 😭

Like, sometimes the gif needs to go in be the text for the punchline, like yours!! Perfect btw!! 🤗

Sometimes it needs to go first, sometimes at the end.

Now it's only after the text...or maybe before? 🤔🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Either way I can't move or adjust it anymore and it pisses me off. 🫩

I wanna put my gif wherever TF I please and can no longer do so. 😫

I know in the grand scheme of things it's not really that big of a deal but like, it's still very fucking annoying. Why take that away? What good did that do for the update?

And I'll go ahead and assume it's just a mobile issue seeing as you're still able to put your gif wherever TF you please. 😭

I don't know, maybe I'm not famous enough to understand. But the FIRST time I bit someone who did not want to be bitten, and/or the first time I got in a scuffle on a plane, i would be so mortified that I would figure out what part of my medications/alcohol/personality caused this to happen and create stopgaps to make sure it didn't happen again. But then, I'm just an anonymous, non-wealthy person, so 🤷‍♀️
